FAQs

How much soap will a 2 lb slab make?

Depending on your mold size, a 2 lb slab typically yields 8–10 standard-sized soap bars. You may get even more per slab if you're making smaller guest soaps or embeds.

Can I use this base with natural colorants and additives?

This shea butter melt and pour soap base takes on natural and cosmetic colorants well, including mica, clay, herbal powders, or titanium dioxide for a brighter finish. You can also mix in small amounts of botanicals (only if they are soap-safe and non-abrasive), or gentle exfoliants like poppy seeds or oatmeal.

Note: Always test additives first, and be aware of shelf life or discoloration potential.

Will this base work with silicone molds?

This Shea Butter Soap Base works beautifully with silicone molds, plastic molds, or custom mold trays. Just be sure to pour into molds while the soap is fully melted, and allow the soap to cool at room temperature to prevent warping or soft edges.

How do I store my unused soap base?

Store unused slabs in a cool, dry place wrapped in plastic or shrink wrap to prevent sweating or softening. A well-stored base will retain its integrity for up to 1 year from purchase.

Is this base good for sensitive skin?

This base is formulated without harsh detergents and includes vegetable glycerin and Butyrospermum Parkii (shea butter) to help gently cleanse and moisturize. Many users with dry or sensitive skin prefer butter soap bases like this one for their mild, soothing properties.

Does the soap sweat after curing?

Like many glycerin-rich melt and pour bases, this one may form dew (also called "sweating") in humid conditions. This is due to the humectant properties of vegetable glycerin. To reduce this, wrap your finished soaps tightly with plastic wrap or shrink wrap and store in a low-humidity area.

Can I layer or swirl this with other soap bases?

Yes! This shea butter melt and pour works well with other compatible bases (like goat milk or aloe vera). You can create layered soaps by pouring at slightly cooled temperatures, or try swirling by combining colored batches. Just be sure both bases are melted and poured at similar temperatures for the best results.
