Benefits of Using a Facial Mask on your Skin

Using a facial mask on your skin can provide many benefits for the health of your skin. When you apply this substance to your face, it starts acting right away to pull harmful oils from your face. When you do this, the ingredients whether they be clays, enzymes, or charcoals; penetrate deep into your skin over time. You should know what kinds of skin issues you have before picking a face mask that will work for you. For example, if you have acne or harmful bacteria in your skin, then use Activated Charcoal to draw it out of your skin. You could also go the route of using sheet masks for sensitive skin, and will leave your skin feeling smooth.

Benefits of Using Calendula Flowers in your CosmeticsBenefits of Using Calendula Flowers in your Cosmetics

Calendula Flowers have been known to reduce muscle spasms and reduce fever symptoms in most people. When used in cosmetics, these flowers have been known to reduce inflammation and acne. You can also use these flowers in soap making recipes and lotion recipes. If you also have any burns, you can use soap that is made with Calendula to relieve the symptoms of the burn on your skin. A fun fact about Calendula is that it can also naturally color soap as well. So, if you don’t want to always have to stick to using soap colorant, then you can try this alternative out for yourself. So, if in the near future you are ever wanting to make a homemade DIY project that provides a lot of benefits for your body, then try using Calendula for yourself, and see how amazing you feel afterward.

Before you start making this Facial Mask for Acne Recipe, you want to clean and sanitize your work area. When you are making this recipe, it is recommended that you wear protective clothing, gloves, and a hair net. Working with a bunch of powders, it may also be in your best interest to want to wear a face mask .

Setting Up and Weighing out the Dry IngredientsSetting Up and Weighing out the Dry Ingredients

Grab a medium sized mixing bowl, and set it on the scale. Tare out the weight of the mixing bowl on the scale to zero grams. You want to weigh out the pomegranate fruit, papaya leaf, calendula flowers, and green tea powders. The order that you weigh these powders doesn’t matter.

Mixing the Dry Ingredients TogetherMixing the Dry Ingredients Together

After adding the previous powders, you then want to add 448 grams of the Rhassoul Clay Powder.  After adding the last powder, you want to mix all of the powders around in the bowl until they are evenly dispersed. If you don’t evenly disperse them, you may not get the full effect of the facial mask all around your face. There are two ways you can mix these. First, you could put on some gloves, and move the powders around with your hands until they are fully dispersed among each other. When you do this, it doesn’t hurt to take your fingers and break up any clumps in the powder. Second, you could take a fork or spoon, and sift through the powders.

Adding and Mixing the Wet Ingredients into the PowderAdding and Mixing the Wet Ingredients into the Powder

After mixing all of the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl, the next step is to add in the wet ingredients. The first wet ingredient to add to the facial mask mixture is the Vitamin E Oil. Vitamin E Oil is a natural oil that can protect your skin against sunburn damage, and can also be used to counteract inflammation. Use the disposable pipette to add the oil into the mixture. You want to fill up the pipette with the oil, then add 48 drops of the vitamin e oil to the dry mixture. Afterward, you want to dispose of the pipette and get a new one. With the new pipette, fill it with tea tree essential oil. You want to add 64 drops of the tea tree essential oil to the mixture.

Packaging the Dry Ingredients

When the oils are added to the mixture, thoroughly mix the ingredients together. You want to make sure that there are no clumps leftover in the mixture when you are done mixing it. Like before, it may also help to put on gloves, and go through with your hands afterward and break apart any clumps. The mixture should still be a powdery substance when you are done mixing. Now that the powdered portion is finished, scoop the mixture in the bowl into the four ounce jars. Then, you can close the lids on the jars. You should place a lid on each of the jars as you finish filling them. The lids should easily go on. If you notice that you’re trying to force the lid, remove a little bit of the facial mask mixture, and try again.

Packaging the Vegetable Glycerin

Next, you want to prepare seven 1 oz clear bullet bottles. When preparing these bottles, it wouldn’t hurt to put some decent space in between them to avoid knocking one of them over. In each of these bottles, you want to add 24 grams of vegetable glycerin. You can do this by placing each bullet bottle on a scale, and tare it out to zero. Then after taring the bullet bottle, you can fill up a new disposable pipette with vegetable glycerin and add it to the bottle. When all the bottles are properly filled, you want to place a white ribbed lid on each of the bottles. You should tightly secure the lids on the bottles. This will eliminate the possibility of any leaks.

Using the Facial Mask for Acne Recipe

Now that all of the ingredients are completely made, the next step is to use the facial mask. Before using the face mask, make sure to clean up your work area when you are done, as there are a lot of products that were used that could’ve gotten everywhere. To use the facial mask, you want to first get a small mixing bowl. In this small mixing bowl, you want to add one tablespoon of powder, two tablespoons of water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin. After adding these ingredients in the bowl, mix them well to get a complete consistency. After you are done mixing these ingredients together, the facial mask is ready to use and apply to your face.

A Side Note for this Recipe

As a side note, here at Nature’s Garden we choose to package the powder separately from the Vegetable Glycerin in our facial mask for acne recipe. Since we don’t have to create the mask with water, this will eliminate the need to add a preservative to it. The reason behind this is that microorganisms and bacteria thrive and live in water induced environments. To eliminate this threat when packaging the face masks, we use vegetable glycerin packaged separately instead, so preservatives aren’t needed. You customers can then mix up the facial masks as needed. This efficient solution will allow your customer to interact more with how they want their facial masks. They can add more water if they would like a thinner mask and less water to make a thicker consistency You can make about 8 facial masks from each of the 4 oz jars.

We hope that you enjoy your facial mask recipe, and all of the benefits that come along with using it. This recipe cuts deep into the skin, and as you can see it uses a lot of different powders. This recipe will absorb a lot of those harmful oils that cause acne on your face. The facial mask will also leave behind smooth skin where it was applied. This face mask will clear the skin on your face and have you looking fresh again.

Other Uses for Tea Tree Essential OilOther Uses for Tea Tree Essential Oil

Premature Aging Facial Mask RecipePremature Aging Facial Mask Recipe

We recently have created some new homemade facial mask recipes. We made each of these with a different purpose in mind for the skin. This one in particular that we will be talking about today is for skin that is aging prematurely. Aging happens to all types of skin, in any stage of life, and it could be experienced by both men and women. We at Natures Garden carry a plethora of herbs and powders such as rose hips powder and carrot powder. These herbs have been used in many of the recipes found on the Natures Garden website. Our herbs and powders are highly versatile in cosmetic products, and we wanted to show how they can be utilized in products like face masks, starting with this premature aging facial mask recipe!

48 grams Vegetable Glycerin

First, you should clean and sanitize your work area and all of your packaging materials. We also suggest that you wear gloves, protective clothing, and a hair net while preparing this recipe.

Why Facial Masks Are GreatWhy Facial Masks Are Great

Exfoliating, moisturizing, and taking care of your skin, in general, is very important and it should be a daily routine. In everyday life and through nearly any activity, your skin will attract all sorts of bacteria. This can, unfortunately, lead to clogged pores, impurities, acne, and toxins entering the skin. One thing that can help with these skin issues is using a facial mask. There are so many different kinds of face masks out there that cater to all types of skin. If you have skin that is on the dryer side, you might enjoy our Pumpkin Face Mask. If you want to remove blackheads, try using our homemade Activated Charcoal Facial Mask. Establishing a daily skincare routine can really improve the health of your skin. If you are washing your face every day and moisturizing the surfaces of your body, it will really help to heal your skin!

Background on the Recipe PowdersBackground on the Recipe Powders

Before we begin, you might like to know a little bit of background information on the five powders we will be using. We carry plenty of herbs and powders at Natures Garden which have many beneficial properties to them. Understanding the certain elements each can bring will help you decide which ones to use in your items. There are also some additional recipes on our website that use these powders.

Dead sea clay powder:Dead sea clay powder:

This comes in grey and green shades. This is a powder that is mined from ancient sea floors, including the Dead Sea. Additionally, this powder is also rich in many nutrients, including calcium, potassium, iron, and aluminum, which nourish the skin. Dead sea clay also exfoliates and removes dead skin cells and any toxins. This was also used in our recipe for mechanics soap.

Rose hips powder:Rose hips powder:

These come from wild roses. They also contribute to anti aging, brightening and moisturizing the skin, and may help with acne issues. Rose hips have high levels of vitamins A, E, D, and C. Each of these qualities make it an ideal herbal powder to add to cosmetics. Check it out in our foaming rose petal bath bombs recipe!

Camu camu powder:Camu Camu powder:

Camu camu is another powder that contains many vitamins, such as vitamin B1, B2, B3, and C. It also has many essential amino acids and antioxidants. This is a great powder to use in cosmetics for premature aging, dark patches, and scarring. In addition, you can try our blueberry bath bomb or acai berry smoothie sugar scrub!

Noni fruit powder:Noni fruit powder:

This type of powder is great to use in soap and other body products. Noni fruit originates from Tahiti and has actually been named the queen of all health plants. This is because it contains approximately twenty amino acids, along with minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. It is fantastic for health benefits and the health and elasticity of the skin. Some of these properties are shown through our lavender fizzy bath recipe.

Carrot powder:Carrot powder:

This herbal powder is very beneficial to the skin. It helps repair, tone, reduce scars, and it contains many vitamins as well. In addition, it has calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. A great thing about this powder is that it can naturally color your cosmetic recipes orange. Another recipe we have with carrot powder is a facial mask that you will see from Natures Garden, which helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Weigh Out the Dead Sea ClayWeigh Out the Dead Sea Clay

For the first step, we need to get out a large mixing bowl and our scale for weighing. Each of the powder ingredients need to be measured out to ensure accuracy. First, add 224 grams of the dead sea clay powder to your mixing bowl.

Incorporate the Other PowdersIncorporate the Other Powders

Next, once again, using your scale, weigh out the rest of the powders individually. To the same medium sized bowl, add in the rose hips powder, camu camu powder, noni fruit powder, and the carrot powder. Whichever order you want to add these is up to you, the order really does not matter in this step. Once everything is in the mixing bowl, mix all of it together. You can either use a mixing spoon or your hands for this step. We prefer using our hands so that we are able to break up any clumps in the mixture and to make sure that everything gets evenly dispersed.

Add in the Vitamin E OilAdd in the Vitamin E Oil

Now, you will need to get out a couple of disposable pipettes. First, you can get out the Vitamin E Oil. The version of this oil that Natures Garden carries is called Tocopherol T-50, which is the purest form. Many cosmetic recipes call for at least a small amount of vitamin e oil, this is because vitamin E will help slow oxidation. So, dip one of the disposable pipettes into the bottle and add 24 drops of it to the powder mixture.

Integrate the Amyris Essential OilIntegrate the Amyris Essential Oil

In this next step, you will need to grab another disposable pipette. You will dip it into the bottle of the amyris essential oil and add 32 drops of it into the mixture you have so far. Amyris essential oil originates from Haiti. This is often added to perfumes as a fixative in order to extend the fragrant life of a blend. It provides soothing qualities as well. After this is added, all of the ingredients for the recipe have been added! Give your mixture a final stir and mix the ingredients together with either a spoon or a spatula.

Scoop the Mixture into the JarsScoop the Mixture into the Jars

Once you have given the powder a final mix, the powdered portion of the recipe is completed. Next, grab the four jars along with their lids. You should have four 4 oz. clear jars. Take a spoon, spatula, measuring cup, or whatever you want to use and begin scooping the powder into each of the jars. Finally, once they are full, place a lid on each one.

Make the Vegetable Glycerin BottlesMake the Vegetable Glycerin Bottles

Since your powdered portion is now finished, you can get your 1 oz. clear bullet bottles ready to go. Fill each of these up with 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin. Once you have them all filled up, place a white ribbed lid on each bullet bottle.

Using Your Anti-Aging Facial Mask

When you are ready to go and use your brand new facial mask, you are going to need a small bowl or container. To the bowl, add in one tablespoon of the powder mixture, two tablespoons of regular water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin from the separate bottle. This is the formula for making each face mask from your jars. Use a spoon and mix it all together well until it is smooth. However, depending on if you prefer a thin or a thick facial mask, you would incorporate more or less water to the bowl.

Preservatives in Face Masks

We wanted to mention something that is important to know in cosmetic products. When it comes to making things such as facial masks, they will require a preservative. This is because the product will not last longer than a couple of days without one. It can mold, it will develop bacteria, and other things may develop on it. Preservatives prevent that from happening and allow for a longer shelf life. We want to say that we purposely chose to package the powder portion and the vegetable glycerin separately from one another. For that reason, this facial mask no longer requires a preservative to make it last.

Instead, when you are ready to use them, you will need to create the individual masks by adding in the water and vegetable glycerin. This method allows you to prepare a quicker product to sell to your customers, increases the shelf life, and avoids bacteria from growing. Each of the four ounce jars will give you approximately 8 facial masks. We hope that you enjoyed following along and making our brand new premature aging facial mask recipe!

Powders for Facial Products

Finally, we found a website that we think our customers will find helpful and useful. This website for Fecund Herbals posted a blog about 3 Great Reasons to Use Powdered Facial Products, written by the owner of the company, Katya Herb. We thought this could be a great link to check out for all of you who are interested in make up! She proposes that buying or making powdered make up products as opposed to liquid ones is much better. The great reasons she provides are longevity, the economy, and the flexibility of them. Katya talks about making products without water so that they last longer, getting twice the value by purchasing powders, and being able to mix them with a variety of ingredients depending on your skin, such as honey.

Background on the Powders for the RecipeBackground on the Powders for the Recipe

We think that is important to know the reasons behind the powders we chose to use for this specific recipe. All herbal powders, herbs, flowers, etc. possess different qualities and properties. Some are better than others depending on the recipe you are making and what you want to use it for. For example, if you are trying to find products that will help reduce the size of your pores and will moisten your skin, then red Moroccan clay is going to be a great choice to incorporate into your recipe(s). We chose these ingredients carefully and according to specific skin issues. As you know, this one is for scarring.

Bentonite Clay PowderBentonite Clay Powder:

This clay powder originally comes in light grey and beige tones. When water is added to it, however, it turns into an olive colored green shade. Bentonite clay contributes some smoothness to cosmetic formulas when they are applied to the face and skin. It also helps clear impurities in the skin when added into products like this face mask. There are many other bath and body recipes that it performs fabulously in, such as shaving soap, cold process soap, lotions, and bath bombs. Some of the products we have created using it are the freshly ground coffee bath bombs and the Easter egg bath fizzies.

Marshmallow Root PowderMarshmallow Root Powder:

This type of powder is most commonly used for helping wounds to heal, reducing swelling, and for its ability to soothe and soften the skin. It is a good powder to add to products made for people with dry skin. Its ability to moisturize the surfaces will be helpful in recipes like lotion. Marshmallow root powder is also commonly added to bath tea, facial and body scrubs, creams, ointments, as well as bath bombs, hair products, and even toothpaste.

Slippery Elm Bark PowderSlippery Elm Bark Powder:

The next powder, slippery elm bark, is one of the ingredients from Essiac Tea. This is a blend of multiple herbs, including Indian rhubarb, burdock root, and some others that boost the immune system. It also helps to reduce redness and helps to soothe the skin. Slippery elm can also be used for medical benefits as well, such as an upset stomach, a sore throat, and for treating burns, scrapes, etc. This is added to hair products, soap, bath bombs, scrubs, and of course, facial masks like this one.

Olive Leaf PowderOlive Leaf Powder:

Our olive leaf powder originates from Albania and it has many beneficial properties to it. There are plenty of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals in it. This powder can also help wounds to heal. These facts make it a great addition to many naturally homemade cosmetics. Some of them are bath teas, creams, lotions, facial toners, and massage oils. Olive powder can be added to facial masks to improve cell regeneration and to moisturize the skin. Another benefit of this powder is that it can be used as a natural green colorant to your cosmetic products. Adding more or less can alter the color and give you what you the one you are looking for. To see this powder in a different recipe, check out our floating Noah’s Ark soap recipe!

Aloe Vera Leaf PowderAloe Vera Leaf Powder:

Finally, we have our aloe vera leaf powder, which originates in Mexico. This is well known for its properties and abilities to heal skin. Since it has salicylates in it, this powder can really relieve pain. The aloe vera plant also contains healing powers with the gel inside. This is used for skin that is inflamed, irritated, or sunburned. This contains vitamin C, some minerals, and many antioxidants as well. Many recipes can be made with this powder, including bath bombs, cold process soap, bath salts, and shampoo. Some of the ones we have made are a pampered foot scrub and a sunburn relief bath tea recipe.

Add in the Bentonite Clay PowderAdd in the Bentonite Clay Powder

Now that all of you are more aware of the purposes behind choosing each of these herbal powders for this recipe, we can dive right into it. To begin, you will need to get a medium mixing bowl and a scale for weighing the powders out. We will start the recipe by measuring out 448 grams of the bentonite clay powder in the mixing bowl.

Mix in the Other PowdersMix in the Other Powders

Next, get the rest of the dry powder ingredients ready to incorporate. We will weigh each of them out separately, however, the particular order does not matter since they will all be mixed together anyway. We started out with the marshmallow root powder, then added in the slippery elm bark powder, the olive leaf powder, and lastly, the aloe vera leaf powder.

Break Up the ClumpsBreak Up the Clumps

Once they are all in the mixing bowl, use your hands, with gloves on, to fully mix the ingredients and to break up any clumps in the mixture. You could also take a spoon to stir the powders, but we find it easier to use our hands in order to get all of the clumps out.

Integrate the Vitamin E Oil into the MixtureIntegrate the Vitamin E Oil into the Mixture

Now, take a disposable pipette and dip it into your bottle of vitamin e oil. Add 48 drops of this to the mixing bowl with the powder mixture. The vitamin e oil that we sell at Natures Garden is in its purest form, coming only from plant sources. Several cosmetic recipes have vitamin e oil listed as an ingredient. This is because it helps prevent the oils in the recipes from oxidizing, which would result in a rancid smell and change of color to brown. This is an antioxidant and is strictly to be used to prevent discoloration and products from becoming rancid. It is not meant to be used as a preservative, since that is not what this product is. Vitamin e oil will not kill bacteria in your projects unlike a true preservative would.

Incorporate the Geranium Essential OilIncorporate the Geranium Essential Oil

Then, for the next step, use a different disposable pipette. Dip it into the geranium essential oil and add 64 drops of it to the same bowl. Geranium essential oil comes from the leaves and flowers of the plant pelargonium graveolens. It could also possibly provide several health benefits for conditions such as acne or irritations and infections of the skin. Since it is often used as aromatherapy, it has been said to help relieve anxiety, stress, and even depression. Other types of cosmetic recipes that it is commonly used in are room sprays, massage oils, and added to baths for relaxation.

Mix the Ingredients Together

At this point, everything should be in the bowl, including the bentonite clay, marshmallow root, slippery elm bark, olive leaf, aloe vera leaf, vitamin e oil, and the geranium essential oil. For this last step, take either a spatula or a spoon and mix all of these ingredients together from the mixture.

Fill Each of the Jars UpFill Each of the Jars Up

Once you have stirred everything together thoroughly, your powdered portion will be finished! Grab your four ounce clear jars to put your new face masks into! Take a spoon and scoop the powder into all seven of the jars until they are filled up and place a lid solidly on each one of them.

Make Up the Bottles of Vegetable GlycerinMake Up the Bottles of Vegetable Glycerin

Next, get all of your 1 oz. clear bullet bottles prepared and ready. You will also need your scale again for this step. Once you have them, fill all seven of them with 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin. After doing that, place a white ribbed lid tightly on each of the bottles.

Using the Facial Mask

Now, you might be wondering how you are going to actually apply this face mask. When you are ready, you will need to get a small mixing bowl out. You can start by scooping out a tablespoon of the powder mixture, two tablespoons of water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin. Mix all of this together.

Note: We did not add water to our facial mask, which means adding a preservative is not necessary. By packing the powder portion separately from the vegetable glycerin, it allows you to create a quicker product for your customers. Each one of the seven jars will make up approximately 8 facial masks.

We hope that you enjoyed learning about and creating our new face mask for scars recipe!

The application for the clay is going to depend on it’s mineral composition. The best part about this clay is that it’s naturally occurring as well. So, you get the benefits of 100% natural minerals being present in the clay powder. We hope you enjoy learning about and seeing bath and body recipes involving this wonderful substance.

What is Kaolin Clay?

Kaolin Clay is a white, soft clay powder that is commonly used for people with sensitive skin. This clay is a type of silicate that was named “Gaoling” by the Chinese, then later adapted as “Kaolin” by the French. This clay is derived from the mineral called Kaolinite which is a soft, white, earthy mineral found from within the ground. In the United States some of the largest deposits of Kaolinite can be found in central Georgia. There’s a town in Georgia called Sandersville that is known as the “Kaolin Capital of the World”. Kaolin clay is commonly used in both cosmetics as well as soaping. This clay has the ability to harden different bath products as well as cleanse the skin.

Uses for Kaolin Clay outside of Cosmetics and Soap

While Natures Garden sells kaolin clay for use only in cosmetics, it has benefits in other industries as well. Kaolin Clay can be mixed with water to create a poultice for treating minor wounds. Another interesting use for Kaolin Clay is as a fruit fly repellent. All you need to do is add 2 tablespoons of Kaolin Powder for every 12 ounces of water into a water bottle. Afterwards, go around and spray any areas where you don’t want fruit flies. When Kaolin Clay is made, it’s tested for mineral content afterwards to see if it can be used for cosmetic, medicinal, or industrial purposes. Usually, Kaolin Clay is more commonly used in cosmetics though.

How to use Kaolin Clay in Different Cosmetics

Kaolin Clay poses a lot of different benefits when used in cosmetic recipes. For example, in bath bombs, Kaolin Clay is known to be a good color fixative which allows the color to show and not fuse within the bath bomb. It also acts as a hardening agent for bath bombs. When used in any bath fizzes or bath bombs, kaolin clay is a great way to soften the skin once you get out of the bathtub. Kaolin Clay is even used in deodorant recipes. When used in deodorant, this clay may help detoxify the skin underneath as well. You can also take advantage of the natural mineral makeup of this clay and use it in eye shadows, foundations, and blushes. This will allow you to get the true color that you’d desire.

How to use Kaolin Clay in Different Soaps

When used in soap, this clay is wonderful for those with sensitive skin. Kaolin Clay is rich in potassium, titanium, and silicon which when wet, will give your soap a smooth, silky, and creamy feel. Kaolin clay is also useful in retaining moisture when applied. The direct result of this is skin that is left moisturized and not so tight when you are done cleaning it. Also, this clay can be used to exfoliate your skin, leaving it smooth and clean.

Using Kaolin Clay to Help With Acne

When you use Kaolin Clay in body products, it not only can help some fight acne, but will do so in a smooth way that isn’t painful to your natural skin. This white clay, when used in soaps, is really good at picking up any oils. Some people will use this clay for types of skin conditions. Examples including: acne, skin irritations, skin inflammation, and dry flaky skin.

Tea Tree Soap Recipe Using Kaolin ClayHow to Use Kaolin Clay: Tea Tree Soap Recipe

Finally, we will look at the Tea Tree Soap Recipe. This melt and pour soap recipe not only uses kaolin clay, it also uses Natures Garden’s pure tea tree essential oil. In this hemp mp soap making project, we show you how to use the white clay to allow you to swirl melt and pour soap. One half of the soap is scented and simply colored. The clay is added to other half of the soap. By adding the clay to half of the soap, it will make this portion a slightly thicker consistency. This creates a tension barrier, preventing the two colors of soap from mixing together. Instead of blending together, it creates swirls within each bar of soap.

Kaolin Clay comes from Kaolinite, which is a naturally occurring mineral. I’m going to discuss the process of how they extract these minerals. Understanding Kaolin Clay uses, also involves understanding where it comes from. This koalin clay article was used as a basis to understand the operations involved in mining this mineral. You can find the largest deposits of Kaolinite in the United States in Georgia. By itself, Kaolinite serves little to no purpose when extracted as a raw material. Before they start drilling for this material, land analysts research the land and make calculations on where the best location would be to find deposits. Afterwards, they drill 200 foot deep holes. They drill around 50-100 holes for every 100 acres to get a reasonable sample. This sample set will allow the miners to understand the quality of the Kaolinite in the area.

Homemade Facial Mask Recipes: Key Ingredients

First, let’s look at a few ingredients used in a homemade facial mask recipe.  While there are many combinations that can be used in these recipes, there are a few key ingredients needed to formulate a facial mask recipe.  Of course, you need a cosmetic clay.  This is will help your mask harden.  You have several options but we will look at each one below.  You will notice, each of our recipes will include vegetable glycerin.  Glycerin is used to help pull moisture back into your skin.  A facial mask can help pull impurities out of your skin but it also can pull moisture from your skin.  It is important to use an ingredient that will put that lost moisture back into your skin.  So, let’s look at these two ingredients a little closer.

Turmeric Facial Mask RecipeHomemade Facial Mask Recipe: Turmeric Facial Mask Recipe

Finally, we have a turmeric facial mask recipe.  What is so special about turmeric? First, it helps your skin glow and look healthy.  In addition, it is a wonderful anti aging herb, great for skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne.  Lastly, some have found it to heal and help with dry skin.

Homemade Facial Mask Recipes: Creating a Facial Mask

So, we have talked about a few of the key ingredients.  We have also talked about some of the recipes that we have formulated.  Now, let’s talk about creating a facial mask.   Well, there are a couple of options here.  First, you have to decide if you want to use a preservative.  A preservative is important anytime there is a presence of water in a product that will be stored, like in a facial mask.  A preservative is going to prevent bacteria.  Other ingredients, like vitamin E, may work as antioxidants, but antioxidants do not stop the growth of bacteria.  They simply slow oxidation.  So, preservatives are needed to prevent bacteria growth.

Now, some do not want to use preservatives in their products.  Well, you do have another option.  You can very easily mix your powdered ingredients such as your clay and powdered herbs together.  Then, place this mixture in a jar.  Separately, place vegetable glycerin in a bottle.  You can then sell the jar and bottle as set along with mixing instructions. Not only does this option allow you to exclude a preservative, but there are also a couple other benefits.  It is also a quick product to make.  Finally, it will have a much longer shelf life.  You can see an example of a facial mask created like this in the activated charcoal face mask recipe.  However, those that want to mix their facial mask ahead of time so there is no mixing needed, you can see how to do this in the refreshing facial mask recipe.

Homemade Facial Mask Recipes: Using Your Facial Mask

Once you have formulated your facial mask recipe to yours, or your customer’s skin type, it is time to use it.  So, at this time, if needed mix the facial mask according to the instructions.  Then, simply apply a layer to your face.  Allow the mask to harden before removing it using warm water.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Weigh Out the Bentonite Clay PowderTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: Weigh Out the Bentonite Clay Powder

First, let’s talk about Bentonite Clay Powder. Bentonite is a wonderful addition to any face mask! This type of clay, when used in face masks, helps clean impurities from the skin. When used in soaps, bentonite is good at treating oily skin. Also, when used in bath bombs, it helps harden them. In addition, bentonite is useful in thickening lotions.

So, now we are going to weigh out the bentonite. You will add the clay to the same bowl you have your turmeric powder in. Tare out your scale and to the medium bowl, add 224 grams of bentonite clay. Next, mix the two ingredients together until everything seems evenly dispersed.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Add the Vitamin E OilTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: Add the Vitamin E Oil

The next ingredient we will be adding is Vitamin E. Vitamin E from Nature’s Garden comes in the purest form, is also known as Tocepherol T-50. This is not tocopherol acetate (the form found in many vitamin E capsules).   Vitamin E is a wonderful antioxidant and is fabulous for your skin.

Turmeric Face Mask recipe: Packaging your Facial MaskTurmeric Face Mask recipe: Packaging your Facial Mask

For this recipe, we decided to package the powder portion of the face mask and the vegetable glycerin separately. We chose to create the facial mask recipe this way for a couple of reasons. First, creating the facial mask mixture separately without the water you will not need to add a preservative. In addition, you will be able to prepare a quick product for your customers. This recipe can be made in just a few minutes. Each 2 ounce jar will create approximately 4 facial masks.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: The Powdered Portion

Now that your powdered portion is complete, you can begin packaging this portion of the facial mask. So, using a spoon, fill each of your 2 ounce white double wall jars and place a lid on each jar.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: The Liquid PortionTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: The Liquid Portion

The next part of our recipe is the vegetable glycerin. Vegetable Glycerin is a humectant, meaning, it draws moisture to your skin. So by adding vegetable glycerin to this recipe, your skin will be left feeling soft and hydrated.

Next,we will prepare the liquid portion of the facial mask. Water, while it is an ingredient in the recipe, will not be used until you are ready mix and apply the face mask. So, we will prepare eight 1/2 ounce bottles for the vegetable glycerin. To each bottle, add 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin and cap them with the white ribbed lids.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Using Your Facial Mask

As we talked about previously, by mixing this mask on an as needed basis, it will prolong the shelf life and can be made quickly when needed. With that being said, let’s talk about using the mask. It is really a simple process. Also, if you are selling this mask as a product, you can sell the jar and bottle as a set and label it with instructions.

Finally, you are ready to use your face mask! You will need one of your jars of powder and a bottle of the vegetable glycerin. Lastly, you will need a small mixing bowl. Starting with the powdered mixture. First, to the small bowl, add about 1 Tablespoon of the powder. Next, you will add about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin to the powder. Finally, you will add 2 Tablespoons of distilled water. Mix this together thoroughly.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Applying your Facial Mask

Once your ingredients are mixed together nicely, apply a thin layer to your face and kick back and relax for a few. Once the mask has hardened, you can rinse your face off in warm water and see how soft and glowing your skin looks and feels!

Turmeric RecipesTurmeric Recipes

Well, we now know the benefits we can get from turmeric powder on our face. So, how about we take a look at some recipes that we can eat! Just follow this link to Allrecipes.com to see just how many types of dishes turmeric is used in.  There are literally hundreds of recipes that incorporate turmeric in them.  One very popular and well-known way to use turmeric is always curry! Curry is actually not a dish as some people think, but a mixture of many different spices and herbs, turmeric being one of them. The use of the term “curry” is generally limited to dishes prepared in a sauce that is made with the mixture of spices.

Using turmeric in recipes isn’t strictly for savory dishes. Sfoof is a traditional Lebanese dessert cake that uses turmeric. There are also smoothie recipes that use turmeric in them and even in hot drinks that are soothing to your soul.  So as you can see, this spice can be added to any type of recipe, internationally or just in your simple everyday drinks! Some people add it for the taste or color, and there are some people that like the idea of using a natural herb in their diet.

The next ingredient we will be adding is vitamin E.  Vitamin E oil from Natures Garden comes in the purest form, this is called Tocopherol T-50.  It is not tocopherol acetate.  Vitamin E oil is an antioxidant and is fabulous for your skin.

Add the Vitamin E OilNext, to your bowl containing the powdered ingredients, you will be adding your pure Vitamin E oil.  So, use a disposable pipette to add 24 drops of the Vitamin E oil right to the powder.  Then, once again, mix the ingredients together.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Packaging Your Facial Mask

For this recipe, we decided to package the powder portion of the mask and vegetable glycerin separately.  We chose to create the facial mask recipe this way for a couple of reasons.  First, creating the facial mask mixture separately without the water you will not need to add a preservative. In addition, you will be able to prepare a quick product for your customers.  This project can be created in just a few minutes.  Each two ounce jar will create approximately 4 facial masks.

Packaging Your Facial Mask:  The Powdered Portion

The Powdered Portion

Now, your powdered portion is complete.  You can begin packaging your powdered portion of the facial mask.  So, use a spoon to fill each of your 2 oz white double wall jars.  You will be able to create approximately 8 jars of facial mask.

Packaging Your Facial Mask:  The Liquid Portion

First, let’s talk about the vegetable glycerin.  Vegetable glycerin is a humectant.  This means it will draw moisture to your skin.  So, we add vegetable glycerin to the facial mask to help leave our skin moisturized.  It is important because, when using a facial mask, you are using ingredients that draw impurities from your skin.  So, adding vegetable glycerin will help to leave your skin feeling moisturized.

The Liquid Portion

Next, we will prepare the vegetable liquid portion of the facial mask.  While yes, water needs to be mixed to a mask, we will not be adding it at this point.  That will come later when it is time to use your mask.  So, we will prepare eight bottles of vegetable glycerin.  To each of your half ounce bottles add 12 grams of vegetable glycerin.  Then, place a white ribbed lid on each bottle.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Using Your Facial Mask

We talked earlier about packaging our mask.  So, in order to use the lavender mask, you will need to mix it.  As we talked about before, by mixing it on an as needed basis, it will prolong the shelf life and make it a very fast project to create.  With that being said, we will now talk about how you can use the mask.  It really is a simple process.  In addition, if you are selling this mask as a product, you can sell the jar and bottle as a set and label it with instructions.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Mixing Your Facial Mask

You will need one of your jars of powder.  Also, you will need one of the bottles of vegetable glycerin.  Finally, you will need your small mixing bowl at this time.

Mixing Your Facial Mask

We will start with the lavender powdered mixture.  First, to your small bowl, add about 1 tablespoon of the powder.

Adding Vegetable Glycerin

Next, you will need your bottle of vegetable glycerin.  Then, add about 1/2 teaspoon of your vegetable glycerin to the powder.

Finally, you will add your distilled water.  Ultimately we added about 2 tablespoons.  Lastly, mix to incorporate all of the ingredients together.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Applying Your Facial Mask

Once you have mixed your ingredients together, simply apply a thin layer of the lavender face mask to your face.  Then, relax and allow the lavender mask to harden.  Finally, once the mask has completely hardened, use warm water to remove the clay mask.

Other Ways to Use Lavender:

Natures Garden also carries a variety of other types of lavender as well.  So, let’s take a look at other ways to use lavender in your products.

Lavender Essential Oils and Lavender Flowers

First, let’s look at lavender essential oils.  We carry a couple of types.  First, of course, is our pure lavender essential oil.  Our lavender 40/42 essential oil can be used in a variety of soap and cosmetic recipes.  In addition to soap, you can use it in anything from powder, to lotion to lip balm to hair conditioners.  The sky is the limit.

Lavandin essential oil is next on our list.  For those wondering, “What is lavandin?”, it is a lavender hybrid.  Lavandin does have an aroma that is similar to a lavender essential oil but is not the exact same scent.  It is still a natural and pure essential oil as well.  It can also be used in a variety of soap and cosmetic products.   On a personal note, I especially love this essential oil mixed with peppermint essential oil.  When mixed 2 parts lavandin to 1 part peppermint essential oil, it smells amazingly fresh and clean!

Finally, our whole lavender flowers not only comes in a powdered version, we also carry dried whole lavender flowers.  These can be used infused in lotions, added to bath bombs, or used to create a lavender bath tea just to name a few.

Lavender Fragrance Oil

First, let’s talk about Natures Garden’s Lavender Flowers Fragrance Oil.  This lavender scent is that of true lavender flowers.

Next, on this list of Natures Garden fragrance oils is Lavender Luxury Fragrance Oil.  This lavender aroma starts with notes of lavender, bergamot, eucalyptus, along with citrus zest.  Then, it is followed by notes of lily and sage.  Finally, it sits on base notes of pine, cool camphor, and clove.

Of course, we couldn’t forget to mention Lavender Martini Fragrance Oil.  This one is unique and extremely popular here at Natures Garden, especially it soap.  I would consider this one a must smell fragrance.  To explain this one, think gin meets lavender with an effervescent pop.

Lavender Mint WOW Fragrance Oil is the perfect combination of both mint and lavender.  This lavender scent brings the two together perfectly.  This fragrance oil really is the balance without one overpowering the other.

Fun Lavender Facts:

Now, let’s talk about lavender itself.  Lavender grows wild in Southern Europe, Australia and the United States.  There are many lavender fields that you can actually visit.  Can you imagine visiting one of these farms and begin engulfed in the aroma of lavender?  To find just a few of these fields, read more on the country living website here.

While Natures Garden sells lavender only for use in soap and cosmetic recipes, it is often used in products like smoothies.  Check out these lavender facts and smoothies from Green Blender.

Another reason to love lavender is for its ability to repel insects like flies, fleas, and mosquitoes.  In addition to the fabulous floral aroma of lavender, they are so easy to grow.  It will make a great addition to your flower garden.  They also attract those adorable little butterflies.  Read more from Natural Living Ideas.

Thus, this sounded like a perfect ingredient for an all natural facial recipe!

Additionally, bentonite clay has some healing benefits for the skin, as well! It has been known to help reduce acne as it will help reduce the production of sebum in the skin. Further, some have found this clay to have absorptive properties, which will attract toxins and impurities our of the skin to be easily washed away.

Furthermore, the vegetable glycerin is great for your skin, too! While most of these lovely ingredients focus on pulling out toxins, it is important to make sure that your skin doesn’t get dried out in the process! So, this ingredient is included to help pull some moisture back into your skin. Thus, your skin won’t dry out! Instead, your face will become softer and more moisturized!

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Preparing to Create Your Face Mask

Since you are creating a product for your face, it is very important that you make some preparations to ensure there are no contaminates. Otherwise, you could end up with dirt or debris in your recipe. So, we want to prevent this as best we can. First, clean and sanitize your bowl and mixing spoon. This is most important as these utensils will have direct contact to your facial. Next, sanitize your work space. While this won’t touch your facial, anything on the counter could indirectly reach the recipe as you set down the mixing spoon between uses. Thus, cleaning both the equipment and your work space will keep your homemade facial safe enough for your to use without worry!

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Weighing the Bentonite Clay PowderChocolate Facial Mask Recipe Weighing the Bentonite Clay Powder

First, we are going to prepare the Bentonite Clay Powder for your facial. So, retrieve your medium sized mixing bowl and the scale. Also, you should set your scale to grams. Then, you will tare the weight of the bowl and weigh out 224 grams of your Bentonite Clay Powder. After, you will be ready to add the next ingredient.

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Weighing the Organic Cocoa PowderChocolate Facial Mask Recipe Weighing the Organic Cocoa Powder

Next, we are going to be preparing the Organic Cocoa Powder for your facial recipe. This ingredient will be added to the same mixing bowl that now contains your bentonite clay powder. So, you are going to have to tare the weight of this filled bowl and add in 96 grams of the organic cocoa powder to the bowl. Be sure to mix these two ingredients together enough that everything is evenly dispersed.

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Adding the Vitamin E OilChocolate Facial Mask Recipe Adding the Vitamin E Oil

Now, we are going to add the pure vitamin E oil to your powdered mixture. Retrieve your bowl containing the bentonite clay and organic cocoa powder. Also, you will need a disposable pipette to add this ingredient. Now, you will use the disposable pipette to add the 24 drops of the Vitamin E Oil to the bowl of your powder mixture.

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Mixing Together the IngredientsChocolate Facial Mask Recipe Mixing Together the Ingredients

After your three ingredients have been added to the mixing bowl, it is time to blend it all together. You will need to mix everything well enough that each ingredient is dispersed evenly throughout the mixture. You are going to want the beneficial qualities of each ingredient in every facial, so be sure to mix well! This is the final time you will mix these ingredients before packaging, so make it count!

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Packaging the Facial PowderChocolate Facial Mask Recipe Packaging the Facial Powder

Next, the powdered portion of this facial recipe is complete. You should make sure that everything is mixed fully! Now, you can scoop your completed mixture into the 4 oz jars. So, carefully transfer this fluffy powder to fill each of the jars. Then, put the lid on each of these filled jars. When you are finished, each of your four 4 oz Clear PET Jars should be completely filled.

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Preparing the Vegetable Glycerin Portion

After, you will be packaging the other portion of your facial mask. So, take your 1 oz Clear Bullet Bottles and fill each one with about 24 grams of the Vegetable Glycerin. Then, place one 20/410 White Disc Top Lids on each of the filled 1 oz bottles. Now, you can pair up each jar with one bottle. Each pair should be proportioned well enough to have the correct amount of ingredients to make about eight facials!

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Creating the Finished Homemade Facial

Later, you will need to mix the powder and the Vegetable Glycerin together to use your facial. So, when you are ready to use one of your homemade facials retrieve a small sized mixing bowl. Now, you are going to combine your ingredients. Take a tablespoon of the powdered mixture, two tablespoons of water, and about a half teaspoon of the Vegetable Glycerin. After, you will mix this all together well until it is all the same consistency.

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Using the Homemade Facial Recipe

Finally, your facial is ready to use! Apply a thin layer of the chocolate facial to your face and let the magic begin! Now, just sit back and relax as this recipe takes care of your skin. Maybe even grab some real chocolate, which we would recommend the scrumptious Lindt chocolates, to pair with your chocolate facial as you wait. The moment is yours, so make it worth every second!

As the mask sits on your face it will begin to harden and tighten a bit. After the facial has entirely hardened you will find no more wet spots on your facial, so it is ready to come off. Now, you can wash off this chocolate facial recipe with some warm water. Finally, your face should feel refreshed and look rejuvenated!

Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe Why We Wait to Mix in the Vegetable Glycerin

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “Why would I wait to add the Vegetable Glycerin?”. I mean it seems like it would be so much easier to just mix everything now, as you already have all your crafting equipment out and ready. Then, you’d have it all ready to go when you need it. However, there are a few factors that make the nature of mixing the facial ingredients more complicated.

After you mix your ingredients, the shelf life will be short. Without a preservative, you will only have a shelf life of one week. Further, this is only the shelf life of a week if it is kept in the refrigerator. So, unless you intend on making a ton of facials immediately, this is not going to end well. If you make all of your facials now, then you will have to use all thirty two individual facials within a single week! Otherwise, the facial will begin to host bacteria and other undesirable organisms that you will not want anywhere near your face.

If you didn’t want to use it all right away, then you could add a preservative to your recipe. Now, adding a preservative is fine and will make the mixed facials last longer, but this is not your only option. There is an easier and more realistic method that will keep this facial all natural where you won’t lose most of the product. There is no need to heat your ingredients and wait for the proper temperature to add the Optiphen. Just wait to mix in the vegetable glycerin and the water until it is time to use the facial. We promise it is an easy way to make your recipe last so much longer!

Plus, all natural cosmetic businesses can sell the mixed powder and vegetable glycerin in a small kit with instructions. Each kit would contain one jar and one bottle, which would produce eight individual facial masks. In addition, this is a project you can put together in minutes! Plus, all you need to do is explain the proportion of mixing the powder, water, and vegetable glycerin! Not only will this be easier to produce, but your facial will be entirely all natural! So, your customers will feel safe using this preservative free recipe on their face. Everybody wins!

Green Clay Mask Recipe Clean, Sanitize, and Organize

Before beginning to create your refreshing facial mask, make sure you are properly prepared for the process. First, your equipment should be cleaned and ready to use. Make sure that your bowls, pot, and spoons are clean and out on the counter. Also, make sure your counter top and stove have enough room for you to work. While this step may seem to be too simple to need mentioning, it is a very important step in this process and can make the experience infinitely more enjoyable. So, just take a few moments to clean and organize your work-space and equipment.

Green Clay Mask Recipe Things to Remember

Before starting you should know that this recipe will make enough for a single facial. If you are making this recipe for yourself, then following the recipe exactly will be perfect. However, if you are creating facials for something like a girl’s night, then you may want to plan ahead a bit. Depending on how many people you have you could maybe have each person create their own, and just share the steeped peppermint tea. On the other hand, you could try doubling the batch as you go. Either way, make sure that you are aware of how much that you are going to need.

Another thing to keep in mind is the shelf life of this recipe. We recommend that you use this recipe as soon as you create it, but you can store your facial for later use. If you want to create your facials in advance, then make sure to avoid storing for more than one week. Also, you must store this recipe in the refrigerator to prevent spoiling. As there is no preservative added, it is not a good idea to store for longer or leave out for too long. For storing you could use the 12-ounce jar that is included in the kit.  Alternatively, if you would like to extend the life of your facial mask, you can choose to add Optiphen preservative.  If you decide to go this route, we recommend a 1% usage rate.

Green Clay Mask Recipe Begin Boiling the Water

Green Clay Mask Recipe Begin Boiling the WaterBefore starting you may want to set a pot of water on the stove to boil. While you could do this in a later step, it may quicken the process a bit if you start boiling your water before you begin with the steps for this recipe. Waiting for the water to boil will lengthen the time you spend on the tea steeping step, so starting it before you begin could be a real-time saver. Now, let’s get started!

Green Clay Mask Recipe Weigh the Powders and Herb

Green Clay Mask Recipe Weigh the Powders and HerbFirst, we are going to combine the French Green Clay Powder and the Peppermint Leaf Powder into a small bowl. Take your scale, place the bowl on top, and tare out the weight of the bowl on the scale. Now, weigh 24 grams of the French Green Clay Powder and 2 grams of the Peppermint Leaf Powder into the same small bowl. Mix these two powders together and set the bowl aside for later.

Green Clay Mask Recipe Weigh the Powders and Herb

Second, you will want to weigh the Peppermint Leaf cut and sifted herb for later use. Take a new bowl and tare out your scale. Now, weight 2 grams of this herb into the bowl. We will be using this weighed herb in the following step.

Green Clay Mask Recipe Steeping the Peppermint Leaf

Green Clay Mask Recipe Steeping the Peppermint LeafNow, it’s time for you to create the peppermint leaf tea. Take the 2 grams of Peppermint Leaf cut and sifted that you have already weighed. Now, scoop all of this herb into one of the provided tea bags. Once your water is boiling you are going to place your tea bag in the boiling hot water. While you can put the tea bag directly into the pot, I transferred some of the water to another small bowl and allowed my tea bag to steep there. I did this to prevent the tea from being too diluted and to make it easier to transfer later. Once your teabag has steeped for long enough, you can move on to the next step.

Green Clay Mask Recipe Weighing the Liquid Ingredients

Green Clay Mask Recipe Weighing the Liquid IngredientsNext, you are going to combine the freshly steeped peppermint tea and the vegetable glycerin into a single, small bowl. Take your scale and tare the weight of a small bowl. Now, weigh 18 grams of the peppermint tea and 6 grams of the vegetable glycerin into the same, small bowl. Mix these together well, so you can pour this mixture in a later step.

Green Clay Mask Recipe Combining Powder and Liquid Ingredients

Green Clay Mask Recipe Combining Powder and Liquid IngredientsFinally, you are going to mix the powder mixture from the very first step with the liquid ingredients from the previous step. Take the bowl of French Green Clay Powder and Peppermint Leaf Powder and pour the bowl of Peppermint Tea and Vegetable Glycerin on top of the powders. Now, mix this mixture together well. Your facial is finally ready to use!

Green Clay Mask Recipe Results

After trying out the Natures Garden Refreshing Facial Mask myself, I’ve fallen in love with this recipe! Not only does the mask smell of delicious peppermint, but made my face feel amazing. Before trying this recipe, I was a little skeptical about whether this would work for me. While I have some problem areas, such as my nose, that are overly oily, my cheeks have been dry from a combination of my face cleanser and the cold, windy weather. However, I was extremely impressed with this recipe! It worked wonderfully on my nose but still left my cheeks feeling smooth and soft. The thing that made this refreshing facial mask kit even more amazing was that I have enough left to create nine more masks! I may even try to get one of my friends to retry this recipe with me. Even though many of my friends aren’t super crafty, this recipe is one that is super easy and delightful to use when it’s finished!

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask RecipeOur next recipe is one that you are going to love!  An activated charcoal facial mask recipe is just what you need in your life.  I have recently become obsessed with activated charcoal powder.  I will say I have a love/hate relationship with the powder.  I love the way it leaves my skin feeling after using it.  In addition, it has wonderful detoxifying properties.  The benefits of activated charcoal definitely out weight the one bad thing about it.  It can get messy!  However, if you are prepared ahead of time, it is easily remedied.  So, just remember to cover your work area before beginning.  Also, wear an apron and disposable gloves when preparing Natures Garden’s activated charcoal mask recipe.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Ingredients Available at Natures Garden

Activated Charcoal Powder
Bentonite Clay Powder
Rosemary Essential Oil
Vitamin E Oil (Tocopherol T-50)
Vegetable Glycerin
Disposable Transfer Pipettes
2 ounce Black Double Wall Jars
58/400 Black Dome Lids
1 ounce Black Bullet Bottles
20/410 Black Smooth Disc Top Lids
Natures Garden Apron

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Other Supplies You Will Need

Large Mixing Bowl
Scale (set to grams)
Rubber Spatula
Measuring Spoons (1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon)
Mixing Spoon

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Prior to Starting

First, I highly suggest wearing an apron.  Then, you will want to clean and sanitize your work area.  Also, do the same with your utensils and packaging supplies.  In addition, I recommend covering your work area.  Personally, I would use wax paper or something similar.  Then, when you are finished, you can simply fold up the paper and throw it away.  While the benefits of activated charcoal are well worth the mess, it reminds me of glitter!  It tends to be difficult to clean up and spreads like crazy.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Total Recipe Amounts

224 grams Bentonite Clay Powder
96 grams Activated Charcoal Powder
192 grams Vegetable Glycerin
32 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
24 drops Vitamin E Oil
2 tablespoons Water  (per mask)

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Mixing the Powdered Ingredients

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Mixing the Powdered Ingredients

First, you will need to weigh out your activated charcoal.  Set your scale to weigh in grams.  Then, in a large mixing bowl, weigh out 96 grams of activated charcoal powder.  We added the activated charcoal powder to this recipe due to its natural detoxifying properties.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Mixing the Powdered Ingredients

Next, add 224 grams of Bentonite Clay Powder to your bowl.  Then mix together the activated charcoal powder and clay.  I would suggest mixing slowly, you may end up with a mess if you try to move too quickly.  We added bentonite clay powder to the mask due to its ability to clean impurities from the skin.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Adding the Oils

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Adding the Oils

Once you have all of the powder combined we will add the essential oil.  We chose to add rosemary essential oil to this recipe.  So, go ahead and add 32 drops of rosemary essential oil using a pipette.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Adding the Oils

Then, we will be adding the vitamin E oil.  Use another pipette to add 24 drops of vitamin E Oil (Tocopherol T-50).  We prefer the tocopherol T-50 because it is the purest for of vitamin E.  It is not tocopherol acetate that is often found in capsules.  Finally, mix everything together.  You want to make sure your oils a completely and evenly mixed into the powders.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Packaging Your Mask

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Packaging Your Mask

We chose to package the powdered portion of the mask.  This allows you to mix it as you need it.  Also, you can have it mixed ahead of time without having to add a preservative.  In addition to the powder, you will add water, and vegetable glycerin.  First, let’s go ahead and package the powder.  You will need eight 2 ounce black jars.  Fill each jar with the activated charcoal mixture.  Place a black dome lid on each jar.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Packaging Your Mask

Next, you will need eight 1 ounce black bottles.  Using your scale, weigh out and add 24 grams of vegetable glycerin to each bottle.  Place a black disc lid on each bottle.

Now, I know what you are thinking… Why didn’t they just put it in a couple of larger jars?  Well, this is because we have many customers reselling their handmade cosmetic products.  So, if you are using the mask for personal use, go ahead and use a larger jar if you would like to.  You can find all of the other jars that we carry by clicking here.  Then, simply mix the mask as you need it.  Since you have not added the water, you will not need a preservative.

For those business owners reselling their products, there are a few benefits to packaging with one jar of powder and one bottle of vegetable glycerin.  First, it is much quicker to create.  It will cut down your labor time.  When preparing eight 2 oz jars it took less than 10 minutes, this also included taking pictures of each step. You will not need to distill your water, add a preservative, and mix everything together.  In addition, there will be much less to clean up.  I wanted to also add that you will get about four masks from each jar.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Using Your Mask

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe Using Your Mask

First, you will need to mix your mask.  In a small bowl, add one tablespoon of the powder.  Then, add one teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin.  Finally, add about two tablespoons of water.  Mix everything together until it is smooth.  If you need to, you can always add a bit more water if you find it is not smooth.  Then, spread a thin layer over your face.  Allow your mask to harden completely.  This should only take about 10 minutes.  Finally, remove the activated charcoal mask gently using warm water and a washcloth.

Activated Charcoal Facial Mask Recipe My Results

Personally, I loved this mask.  I believe it is my favorite of all that I have tried.  It left my skin feeling clean and refreshed.  Also, the addition of rosemary essential oil left me feeling relaxed and stress free.  Now, I will say, I have what most would call normal skin.  It is neither oily or dry and tends to be blemish free…most of the time anyways.  So, I can’t say whether it would help with blackheads or acne like I have read in articles online.  However, we would love to hear how it leaves your skin looking and feeling.
