Stirring Spoon
Stove
Scale
Knife
Toothpick
9 x 13 cake pan
bubble wrap
Pot (for double boiler)
Apothecary Jars
Step 1: Melt the Beeswax: Using the double boiler method weigh out and melt 230
grams of beeswax, stirring occasionally.
Set the temperature of your stove top between medium and low
heat.
Step
2: Once the beeswax is in a liquid state, add 2 drops of
Spectrum Yellow Candle Dye and stir. Place your pouring pot back
into the heat source.
Step 3: Preparing for
the Honeycomb Look: Lay your cake pan on a flat surface. Measure out at least 7 inches in length- this
measurement will provide the best thickness of the beeswax for this recipe. Then, place your knife (or any utensil that
is long enough) across the pan at the 7 inch mark. Next, lay the bubble wrap over the cake pan
and knife with the bubble side up.
Step
4: Scent the Wax: Weigh out 23 grams of Honey Fragrance Oil. Remove your beeswax from the heat source, add
the fragrance. Stir.
Step
5: Gently pour the beeswax slowly over the bubble
wrap. Allow this to fully set up. Please
Note: Do not rush the set up of beeswax or it may crack.
Step 6: Once the beeswax has
hardened, gently remove it from the cake pan. Carefully, peel away the bubble
wrap. Take your time while doing this.
Step
7: Now, weigh out 1000 grams of gel wax. Place this into the double boiler and allow
it to melt to a liquid like state. This
will be very similar to a thick syrup.
Monitor and stir this occasionally.
Step
8: Rolling your Beeswax: Place one of your candle jars on its side. Loosely gauge the width of the jar (before it
changes shape). Mark this on the
beeswax lightly, using
your knife. Next, subtract 1/2"
from your marking. Now, mark this line
and cut it with your knife.
Step
9: Once all of your beeswax has been cut, gently roll it in
a loose form. Now, place one roll in
each of your jars. You
will want the beeswax roll to be 1/2 inch away from the container sides.
Step
10: Next, secure your centered wicks to the bottom of your
candle jars. We used 2- 51-32-18z wicks per jar.
Step 11: When your gel wax is melted, place 4 drops of Spectrum
Yellow Candle Dye, and 1 toothpick tip of Spectrum Orange Candle Dye into the
melted wax. Stir. Next, add 100 grams of Honey Fragrance
Oil. Stir again.
Step
12: Get your thermometer and place it in the gel wax. Using your mixing spoon, continuously stir
the wax slowly to keep it moving.
Step 13: When the gel wax temperature reaches 165 degrees
Fahrenheit, slowly
pour the gel wax into the containers. Straighten your wicks and allow the candles to fully set up.
Your honeycomb candles are now ready.
Simply trim your wick, light, and enjoy!
