A Closer Look at Some of the Ingredients Used

Before we begin, let’s look at some of the Natures Garden products that we will be using in this soap making recipe.  We will look at these ingredients and talk a little more about each one in depth, below.  For those familiar with these products, you can go ahead and begin.

Ritzy Bath GelRitzy Bath Gel

The Ritzy Bath Gel from Natures Garden is a premade base.  In fact, it can be used right out of the jug.  This bath gel base allows you to create a quick bath and body product that work wonderfully.  It should be noted though, some fragrance oils can thin the base.  In order to counteract this, you can use a thickener, which we will talk about next, to get the base back to the proper thickness.

Xanthum GumXanthum Gum

The xanthum gum from Natures Garden Candle and Soap Making Supplies is a food grade, polysacharide, all natural thickener.  This thickener is designed to maintain transparency.  So, it perfect for products like our Bite Me Bloody Bath Gel.  It will allow your gel to maintain that gel look without turning it cloudy.   Xanthum gum can be used in products such as bath gel, shampoo, bubble bath, lotions, creams, shower gels, and liquid soaps.  Just a small amount of xanthum gum goes a long way.  In fact, you will only need .1-1% xanthum gum needed to thicken a thinned bath and body product.  When using xanthum gum, you will need to create a slurry.  So, you simply mix the powder with distilled water and mix with a hand mixer for about 5 minutes.  If you simply add the powder to your product, it will clump and not thicken.  Once you have mixed your xanthum gum, it should be quickly added to your product.

Da Bomb Soap DyesDa Bomb Soap Dyes

For this recipe, we will be working with the red Da Bomb Soap Dye.  The Da Bomb Soap Dyes from Natures Garden are water based colorants used in soap and cosmetic making.  They are FD&C dyes.  This particular soap dye is the red #40.  So, what make the Da Bomb Soap Dyes perfect for this soap making project?  Well, when used in bath gel, they allow you to maintain a translucent appearance.  In fact, this is also true when the Da Bomb soap colorants are used in a clear melt and pour soap base.  They produce a wonderful vibrant color.  However, when they are placed in a white soap base such as shea butter or goat’s milk mp soap base, they will give the finished soaps a beautiful pastel color.  They are also fabulous in lotions, whipped soap, and slime, giving each product that wonderful pastel color.

The Fragrance Oil Used in the Bite Me Bloody Bath Gel RecipeThe Fragrance Oil Used in the Bite Me Bloody Bath Gel Recipe

Dracula would fall in love with this fragrance oil by Natures Garden! Bite Me Fragrance Oil starts with fresh citrus notes of crisp lime and juicy orange sparkle with effervescent highlights. The citrus notes lead to a luscious blend of berry and cherry in this playful scent. Then, leafy green accents intensify as a base of vanilla creates sweet tones for the fragrance.  Bite Me Fragrance Oil is a Natures Garden original scent.

Top Notes:  black cherry, orange, strawberry, pineapple, lime
Mid Notes:  eucalyptus, violet, lily
Base Notes:  clove, vanilla bean

Did you know?  Count von Count the Muppet vampire from Sesame Street is based on the vampire myth that throwing mustard seeds outside ones door will stop any vampire from entering the home.  This is because, as the myth states, a vampire is compelled to count items, so therefore, the vampire would have to count all of the seeds which would take until sunrise.

So, how do our customers feel about Bite Me Fragrance Oil?  Well, they LOVE it!  Our clients use this berry scent in everything from wax melts to melt and pour soap to scrubs!  In fact it even performs well in CP soap!  Many consider this powerful fragrance oil a must have in their cold process soap line!  It had a perfect pour, no ricing, no acceleration, no separation, discolors to a light tan, very strong, a must have for all lines.

Bite Me Bloody Bath Gel Recipe Preparations

Prior to beginning, you will want to prepare your work area.  So, get all of your supplies out and ready in your clean work area.  In addition, clean and sanitize your packaging materials as well as any utensils that you will be using.  Finally, place the Ritzy gallon pump dispenser on the Ritzy Bath Gel jug.

Weigh Out Your Bath GelWeigh Out Your Bath Gel

First, you will need a deep mixing bowl.  Using a deep mixing bowl will make preparing the handcrafted bath gel much easier.  So, you will need your scale placed in front of you.  Then, place your bowl on the scale and weigh out 27 ounces of the Ritzy Bath Gel.

Color the Bite Me Bath GelColor the Bite Me Bath Gel

Next, we will add the soap colorant to the Bite Me Bath Gel.  So, you will need the red Da Bomb Soap Dye.  Then, to the Ritzy Bath Gel, you will need to add about 15 drops of the red Da Bomb Soap Dye.  Now, you will need to stir the gel to incorporate the color.  However, be careful not to over mix or mix too quickly.  Doing so can cause the base to create bubbles.

Adding the Bite Me Fragrance OilAdding the Bite Me Fragrance Oil

At this time we will be incorporating the scent.  As we talked about earlier, we will be adding Bite Me Fragrance Oil to this bath gel recipe.  If you have not worked with this berry scent in the past, you are missing out!  It happens to be one of my favorite fragrance oils!  So, the easiest way to add the fragrance is with a disposable pipette.  Using a disposable pipette, add 12 ml Bite Me Fragrance Oil to the bath gel.  Using a mixing spoon, blend the ingredients together.  Remember, stir slowly as stirring to quickly can create bubbles.

Adding the Xanthum Gum ThickenerAdding the Xanthum Gum Thickener

Now, you may notice that the fragrance oil has thinned the Rity Bath Gel.  Well, to help thicken the base back up, we will be adding some of the xanthum gum.  In order to do this, we need to first create a slurry  So, since xanthum gum will clump when added to water, we will first need to pre-mix it.  In an empty mixing bowl, add 1/2 tsp of the xanthum gum powder.  Then, and add 1/4 cup of room temperature distilled water.  Finally, use a hand mixer to mix the ingredients.  You will need to mix the two ingredients for about five minutes.  You will notice the mixture begin to take on a gel-like look.  This gel can then be added to the Bite Me scented bath gel in order to thicken it.  How much you add will depend on how thick you would like your finished bath gel to be.  So, simply add a small amount and then stir.  Once you are happy with the thickness, you are ready to move on.

Adding the Bath Gel to the BottlesAdding the Bath Gel to the Bottles

Finally, we are ready to add the Bite Me Bloody Bath Gel to the 8 ounce bottles.  So, you will need three bottles.  Additionally, you will need three pump dispensers.  Finally, you will need your funnel.  So, place the into the opening of one of the bottles.  Then, fill the bottles with some of the bath gel.

Then, remove the funnel and repeat this process with each of the bottles.  Lastly, place a pump on each bottle, trimming the dip tube on each one before placing it in the bottle.

Labeling the BottlesLabeling the Bottles

For this project, we decided to create labels for the handmade bath gel.  We then added a fun Halloween themed label to each bottle.

We hope that you have enjoyed creating this Bite Me Blood Bath Gel project.  If you have any questions about this project, or any other candle, cosmetic, or soap making questions, feel free to reach out to us.  You can contact us on our HUG Line, through email, or any of our social media sites.  We hope to hear from you soon!

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Pumpkin Crunch Cake Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Pumpkin Crunch Cake Fragrance Oil

Take my word for it, you’re gonna love this fragrance oil by Natures Garden! This fragrance oil has the aroma of a favorite fall dessert. The smell of creamy pumpkin pie filling with rich Eagle Brand Milk; surrounded with freshly baked yellow cake, melted butter, pecans, and hints of spice. Burn this in a wax melt or in a candle, and people will be thinking you did some baking! This fragrance is so popular during the fall that we can barely keep it on the shelves!

Now, Nature’s Garden has some fragrances that are not body safe. Pumpkin Crunch Cake fragrance oil is one of a few that is strictly for candles and wax melts or in air fresheners. Don’t let that discourage you soap makers out there! This fragrance oil is worth using in some simple wax melts and we have a perfect recipe that you can try!

Pumpkin Clamshell Wax Tarts are adorable and easy to make! Using our Pillar of Bliss and some fun fall candle dye colors, and you have yourself some cute candy corn inspired wax melts to help get you into the fall-spirit! Mmmmm!

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Dragon's Blood Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Dragon’s Blood Fragrance Oil

This fragrance oil by Natures Garden smells just like the essential oil. Dragon’s blood truly has a smell all its own. The actual Dragon’s blood is a resin that is collected from a number of different plants and has long been used as a varnish, incense, dye and in medicine. However, our Dragon’s Blood Fragrance Oil is a Nature’s Garden best seller and is a perfect duplication of the incense or essential oil.

Dragon’s Blood did wonderfully in our cold process soap testing. No ricing, separating, or accelerating. It did discolor to a nice, light tan and the scent was still strong and true after its initial cure time. This fragrance oil also did amazing in candle testing and in air fresheners. Dragon’s Blood also did very well in all bath and body products.

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Green Irish Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Green Irish Fragrance Oil

Green Irish fragrance oil is perfect for anybody that loves a strong, fresh clean scent. It is actually one of my favorites! I could sniff it all day and not get tired of it! Spicy-sweet blend of French verbena and lemon, a green Florentine iris and violet leaves, and sublime notes of Mysore sandalwood and ambergris. This should be a definite addition to your men’s line of products, but we have quite a few reviews stating that it makes a good unisex fragrance. I know I like it!

Green Irish fragrance oil worked beautifully in cold process soap testing! No ricing, accelerating, or separating! A perfect fragrance to work with if you want to add some color or swirls to your soaps. It did discolor to a light lavender, but adding soap colorant, micas or even a natural colorant would help cover it up. The scent retention stayed wonderfully strong throughout its cure time. This fragrance had amazing hot and cold throws in our candle wax testing. It also made wonderful air fresheners and did very well in all other bath and body products.

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Margarita Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Margarita Fragrance Oil

Margarita Fragrance oil by Natures Garden is a fresh lime fragrance with hints of lemon rinds and fresh greenery. This fragrance oil has high levels of essential oil of lime for a true-to-name aroma. This is a perfect summertime fragrance! I know this scent makes me thirsty the minute I get a whiff! Either for lemonade or an actual Margarita would be nice!

During our cold process soap testing, Margarita Fragrance Oil did amazing! A perfect pour with no ricing, accelerating, or separating and no discoloring! The scent stayed strong and yummy throughout the cure time! Margarita also did very well in candle wax testing, air fresheners and in all bath and body products!

Sugar and salt scrubs are very popular nowadays. They are truly easy to make and they will leave your skin feeling soft, refreshed and clean afterward. Our Margarita Salt Scrub is a perfect example. Most margaritas are served with a salted rim, so a salt scrub was the perfect recipe for the fragrance. This scrub has an amazing product in it, Sodium Cocoly Isothionate or SCI. This is a gentle, foaming surfactant made from coconut and is a must for soft skin. We also incorporated Dead Sea salt, vitamin E, mango and shea butters, and jojoba oil. Some amazing skin nourishing ingredients in this mighty yummy salt scrub! This would be a perfect summertime addition to your products!  If you are looking for the real thing, you can try one of these margarita recipes.

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Lavender Mint WOW Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Lavender Mint WOW Fragrance Oil

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Leather Jacket Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Leather Jacket Fragrance Oil

You are not going to get any closer to a Leather Jacket smell unless you are wearing the real thing! Leather Jacket is spot on to a black, leather jacket you get in an expensive leather goods store. Crisp and clean is the thought that pops into my mind when I get a whiff of this!

Leather Jacket did amazing in our cold process testing. No ricing, accelerating, separating or discoloring. A perfect fragrance to work with if you like to get creative with colors or designs in your soaps. It also does very well in candle waxes, makes perfect air fresheners for your car and did well in other bath and body products!

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Stormy Nights Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Stormy Nights Fragrance Oil

Stormy Nights is another one of my all-time favorite fragrances! This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is an earthy, yet ozonic fragrance blend reminiscent of the way the night smells after a storm. This fragrance oil begins with top notes of ozone, fresh air, and white flowers; followed by middle notes of ylang ylang and tuberose and well balanced with base notes of patchouli and musk. Fresh, clean and electrifying!

This fragrance oil did perfect in our cold process soap testing. Once again, no ricing, separating, accelerating or discoloring. The scent stayed strong and fresh through its cure time. Stormy Nights also did amazing in candle waxes, air fresheners and in all bath and body products!

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Sweet Orange Chili Pepper Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Sweet Orange Chili Pepper Fragrance Oil

This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is the sassy, saucy combination of Valencia Orange, Sparkling Bergamot, Tangerine Zest, Tart Cassis, Orange Juice, Neroli, Ground Pepper, Fiery Chili Pepper, and Sheer Musk. Sweet Orange Chili Pepper is a Nature’s Garden original and a best seller!

This yummy fragrance oil did fairly well in cold process soap testing. We experienced some slight acceleration so soaping at room temperature is strongly suggested. However, there was no ricing, separating or discoloring to the soap. The scent stuck very well and stayed strong through the cure time. Sweet Orange Chili Pepper had wonderful hot and cold throws in candle making. It also made wonderful air fresheners and it worked well in all bath and body products.

With such a popular fragrance, we needed a recipe to go along with it. Nature’s Garden created Sweet Orange Chili Pepper Cold Process Soap Recipe. Our base soap recipe is helpful when creating the pretty red and orange swirls. There was no accelerating and it gave excellent time to do an in the pot swirl.

Powerful Fragrance Oils: Strawberry Passion Fragrance OilPowerful Fragrance Oils: Strawberry Passion Fragrance Oil

I know that most people think that strawberry may seem like a delicate, light fragrance to work with, but not Nature’s Garden Strawberry Passion! This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is an incredibly strong, rich ripened strawberry fragrance with bottom notes of cotton candy and French vanilla. Strawberry Passion fragrance oil will be a perfect summer addition and it will be sure to please those that like strawberries.

This fragrance did awesome in cold process soap testing. With no ricing, accelerating or separating, it was perfect to work with. However, it did discolor to a chocolate brown. In this case, if you are looking to keep your soap white, we suggest using Vanilla White Color Stabilizer to help you out. Strawberry Passion also did very well in candle waxes with amazing hot and cold throws. It did equally well in air fresheners and in all bath and body products.
