Background on the Powders for the RecipeBackground on the Powders for the Recipe

We think that is important to know the reasons behind the powders we chose to use for this specific recipe. All herbal powders, herbs, flowers, etc. possess different qualities and properties. Some are better than others depending on the recipe you are making and what you want to use it for. For example, if you are trying to find products that will help reduce the size of your pores and will moisten your skin, then red Moroccan clay is going to be a great choice to incorporate into your recipe(s). We chose these ingredients carefully and according to specific skin issues. As you know, this one is for scarring.

Bentonite Clay PowderBentonite Clay Powder:

This clay powder originally comes in light grey and beige tones. When water is added to it, however, it turns into an olive colored green shade. Bentonite clay contributes some smoothness to cosmetic formulas when they are applied to the face and skin. It also helps clear impurities in the skin when added into products like this face mask. There are many other bath and body recipes that it performs fabulously in, such as shaving soap, cold process soap, lotions, and bath bombs. Some of the products we have created using it are the freshly ground coffee bath bombs and the Easter egg bath fizzies.

Marshmallow Root PowderMarshmallow Root Powder:

This type of powder is most commonly used for helping wounds to heal, reducing swelling, and for its ability to soothe and soften the skin. It is a good powder to add to products made for people with dry skin. Its ability to moisturize the surfaces will be helpful in recipes like lotion. Marshmallow root powder is also commonly added to bath tea, facial and body scrubs, creams, ointments, as well as bath bombs, hair products, and even toothpaste.

Slippery Elm Bark PowderSlippery Elm Bark Powder:

The next powder, slippery elm bark, is one of the ingredients from Essiac Tea. This is a blend of multiple herbs, including Indian rhubarb, burdock root, and some others that boost the immune system. It also helps to reduce redness and helps to soothe the skin. Slippery elm can also be used for medical benefits as well, such as an upset stomach, a sore throat, and for treating burns, scrapes, etc. This is added to hair products, soap, bath bombs, scrubs, and of course, facial masks like this one.

Olive Leaf PowderOlive Leaf Powder:

Our olive leaf powder originates from Albania and it has many beneficial properties to it. There are plenty of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals in it. This powder can also help wounds to heal. These facts make it a great addition to many naturally homemade cosmetics. Some of them are bath teas, creams, lotions, facial toners, and massage oils. Olive powder can be added to facial masks to improve cell regeneration and to moisturize the skin. Another benefit of this powder is that it can be used as a natural green colorant to your cosmetic products. Adding more or less can alter the color and give you what you the one you are looking for. To see this powder in a different recipe, check out our floating Noah’s Ark soap recipe!

Aloe Vera Leaf PowderAloe Vera Leaf Powder:

Finally, we have our aloe vera leaf powder, which originates in Mexico. This is well known for its properties and abilities to heal skin. Since it has salicylates in it, this powder can really relieve pain. The aloe vera plant also contains healing powers with the gel inside. This is used for skin that is inflamed, irritated, or sunburned. This contains vitamin C, some minerals, and many antioxidants as well. Many recipes can be made with this powder, including bath bombs, cold process soap, bath salts, and shampoo. Some of the ones we have made are a pampered foot scrub and a sunburn relief bath tea recipe.

Add in the Bentonite Clay PowderAdd in the Bentonite Clay Powder

Now that all of you are more aware of the purposes behind choosing each of these herbal powders for this recipe, we can dive right into it. To begin, you will need to get a medium mixing bowl and a scale for weighing the powders out. We will start the recipe by measuring out 448 grams of the bentonite clay powder in the mixing bowl.

Mix in the Other PowdersMix in the Other Powders

Next, get the rest of the dry powder ingredients ready to incorporate. We will weigh each of them out separately, however, the particular order does not matter since they will all be mixed together anyway. We started out with the marshmallow root powder, then added in the slippery elm bark powder, the olive leaf powder, and lastly, the aloe vera leaf powder.

Break Up the ClumpsBreak Up the Clumps

Once they are all in the mixing bowl, use your hands, with gloves on, to fully mix the ingredients and to break up any clumps in the mixture. You could also take a spoon to stir the powders, but we find it easier to use our hands in order to get all of the clumps out.

Integrate the Vitamin E Oil into the MixtureIntegrate the Vitamin E Oil into the Mixture

Now, take a disposable pipette and dip it into your bottle of vitamin e oil. Add 48 drops of this to the mixing bowl with the powder mixture. The vitamin e oil that we sell at Natures Garden is in its purest form, coming only from plant sources. Several cosmetic recipes have vitamin e oil listed as an ingredient. This is because it helps prevent the oils in the recipes from oxidizing, which would result in a rancid smell and change of color to brown. This is an antioxidant and is strictly to be used to prevent discoloration and products from becoming rancid. It is not meant to be used as a preservative, since that is not what this product is. Vitamin e oil will not kill bacteria in your projects unlike a true preservative would.

Incorporate the Geranium Essential OilIncorporate the Geranium Essential Oil

Then, for the next step, use a different disposable pipette. Dip it into the geranium essential oil and add 64 drops of it to the same bowl. Geranium essential oil comes from the leaves and flowers of the plant pelargonium graveolens. It could also possibly provide several health benefits for conditions such as acne or irritations and infections of the skin. Since it is often used as aromatherapy, it has been said to help relieve anxiety, stress, and even depression. Other types of cosmetic recipes that it is commonly used in are room sprays, massage oils, and added to baths for relaxation.

Mix the Ingredients Together

At this point, everything should be in the bowl, including the bentonite clay, marshmallow root, slippery elm bark, olive leaf, aloe vera leaf, vitamin e oil, and the geranium essential oil. For this last step, take either a spatula or a spoon and mix all of these ingredients together from the mixture.

Fill Each of the Jars UpFill Each of the Jars Up

Once you have stirred everything together thoroughly, your powdered portion will be finished! Grab your four ounce clear jars to put your new face masks into! Take a spoon and scoop the powder into all seven of the jars until they are filled up and place a lid solidly on each one of them.

Make Up the Bottles of Vegetable GlycerinMake Up the Bottles of Vegetable Glycerin

Next, get all of your 1 oz. clear bullet bottles prepared and ready. You will also need your scale again for this step. Once you have them, fill all seven of them with 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin. After doing that, place a white ribbed lid tightly on each of the bottles.

Using the Facial Mask

Now, you might be wondering how you are going to actually apply this face mask. When you are ready, you will need to get a small mixing bowl out. You can start by scooping out a tablespoon of the powder mixture, two tablespoons of water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin. Mix all of this together.

Note: We did not add water to our facial mask, which means adding a preservative is not necessary. By packing the powder portion separately from the vegetable glycerin, it allows you to create a quicker product for your customers. Each one of the seven jars will make up approximately 8 facial masks.

We hope that you enjoyed learning about and creating our new face mask for scars recipe!

Orange Juice Cake Bubble Bars RecipeOrange Juice Cake Bubble Bars Recipe

The Natures Garden fragrance oil of the month for February 2020 is Orange Juice Cake! To showcase this delicious homemade pastry scent, we created a few new recipes using it. We will be writing and sharing blogs on each of them! The first one we would like to introduce is this Orange Juice Cake Bubble Bars Recipe. These turned out beautifully, looking like a mini version of actual orange juice cake! This cake is an original recipe coming from the Natures Garden owner’s family! It is scrumptious, moist, and bursting with fresh flavors. We designed this fragrance oil to emulate this cake perfectly. Our recipe for this bubble bar is going to make your skin feel incredibly soft, as well as creating a ton of foam and bubbles for your baths. They are made using a surfactant that we just recently brought to the website, SLSA. You are going to love how this product feels and how it smells too! We can’t wait to share each of these new recipes with all of you.

Total Recipe Amounts for Bubble Bars:

330 grams Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
460 grams Sodium Bicarbonate- Baking Soda
224 grams Cream of Tartar
72 grams Corn Starch
14 grams Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil
200 grams Vegetable Glycerin
24 grams Fractionated Coconut Oil
4 grams Cocoa Powder Organic mixed with 20 grams Vegetable Glycerin
15 drops Orange Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
5 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
2 drops Black Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Total Recipe Amounts for Icing:

5 cubes Shea Butter Melt and Pour Soap
6 grams Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil
6 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer
4 heaping teaspoons Orange Peel Cut & Sifted

Clean and sanitize your workstation along with all of your utensils. There are many dry ingredients involved with this recipe, which can create clouds of powder in the air. Therefore, it is suggested by us that you wear gloves, an apron, a face mask, and a hair net while when preparing this. Also, you will want to prepare your bottle of rubbing alcohol that will be used in one of the last steps.

Mixing the Dry IngredientsMixing the Dry Ingredients

To begin, you are going to need a couple of mixing bowls and a digital scale for weighing. We will be measuring and working with the dry ingredients in the recipe first. Take out a larger mixing bowl for this portion. First, we are going to weigh out 330 grams of the SLSA. This product is very important in this recipe. SLSA is a surfactant that is a great foaming agent for products like bubble bars, shampoo bars, and bath bombs. It helps your skin to feel extra soft after use and creates so many bubbles for the bath. Next, add to the same bowl 460 grams of the baking soda, 224 grams of the cream of tartar, and 72 grams of the corn starch. Mix all of these powder ingredients together well, using your hands.

Break Up the ClumpsBreak Up the Clumps

We use our hands in the mixture to help break up any clumps of powder we might find. Baking soda tends to be very clumpy, and it is important to break all of these up. Otherwise, your bubble bars will not be mixed as thoroughly and there might be bits of powder in the mixture, which you do not want for your finished product.

Combining the Liquid IngredientsCombining the Liquid Ingredients

Set the dry ingredients bowl to the side. Now, place a separate mixing bowl on the scale. You need to weigh out 200 grams of the vegetable glycerin, 24 grams of the fractionated coconut oil, and 14 grams of the Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. We chose fractionated coconut oil as our carrier oil due to the properties it has. This oil contributes to the hardness, cleansing, and bubbly lather in cosmetic products. Each one of these qualities is desirable in bubble bars, which you want to create a lot of bubbles in the bath and cleanse the skin at the same time. Our Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil is a combination of pound cake, orange zests, vanilla, caramel, and coconut. This scent is original to Natures Garden and one of our best sellers!

Combining the Mixing BowlsCombining the Mixing Bowls

For the next step, we are going to add the bowl with the wet ingredients to the bowl containing all of the powdered ingredients. Then, you can start mixing them together with your hands. We used our hands because using a spoon may cause the powders to get released into the air and we could lose some of our product, which we do not want to happen.

Forming the DoughForming the Dough

Continue to thoroughly mix the ingredients together. You want to keep going until it reaches the consistency of dough. It may take some time working with it before it reaches this point. Remember to lift and fold the mixture continuously to get the powders at the bottom of the bowl fully incorporated into the rest of it.

Creating the Brown ColorantCreating the Brown Colorant

Next, you will need to get out a small bowl. We are going to be hand making the brown colorant portion of this batter. This step is similar to mixing a facial mask. In your small bowl, weigh out 4 grams of cocoa powder organic. To this, add 20 grams of vegetable glycerin. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly, until there are no longer any clumps from the cocoa powder. Spoon this mixture into the dough batter.

Mix in the ColorantMix in the Colorant

After you have added in the cocoa powder mixture, fully incorporate it into the dough. Evenly fold over the batter repeatedly until you no longer see clumps of brown throughout it. This is just one of the colorants we will be adding to these bubble bars!

Add in Additional ColorantsAdd in Additional Colorants

Once the brown colorant has been fully mixed in, we can move onto the other colors we need. Natures Garden carries multiple FUN Soap Colorants that offer vibrant shades to give color to your soap and body products. For this recipe, we used the shades Orange Oxide, Yellow Oxide, and Black Oxide. Add in 15 drops of the orange, 5 drops of the yellow, and 2 drops of the black. We added these one at a time to see what shade we would be getting, and we were satisfied with our result. This combination gives a nice color to the dough that resembles the look of actual orange juice cake.

Incorporate the Colorants TogetherIncorporate the Colorants Together

After each color is added, we are once again going to use our hands to mix everything together. Continue to knead the dough, especially at the bottom, until the color is evenly dispersed throughout it. An important thing to remember is if the bubble bar dough is too crumbly, you can always add a bit more vegetable glycerin to help. We did not end up having to do this for this recipe, but depending on how your ingredients were measured, you may need to. However, make sure not to add too much vegetable glycerin, or your dough will become too wet and the product will not set up properly.

Pack the Soap MoldPack the Soap Mold

Now we are all finished with the dough! Take out the silicone bundt cake soap mold and pack the bubble bar dough tightly into it. There should be enough batter to fill all four of the bundt cake cavities. You want to pack it in tightly so that your product is cohesive and sets up together. Allow your bubble bars to set up. You will know they are ready once they have hardened. It took ours approximately 24-48 hours to set up completely. However, it can take longer depending on the climate of your environment.

Remove the Bubble Bars Remove the Bubble Bars

Once the bubble bars have had enough time to finish setting up, you can go ahead and pop them out of their molds. Make sure that you have waited enough time before this step. If not, the bubble bars may crack and crumble instead of remaining in one piece. We removed ours onto a silicone mat to prepare for the next few steps, which can get messy.

Cut Up the Melt and Pour SoapCut Up the Melt and Pour Soap

Now, we are going to prepare the icing for our bundt cake bubble bars! You will need to take 5 cubes from a slab of one of our white melt and pour soap bases. We decided to use Shea Butter, but any of the white colored bases will work fine to resemble icing. Slice the cubes up into smaller pieces and place them in a microwave safe bowl. Then, melt them in the microwave in 30 second intervals until the soap is fully melted.

Fragrance the IcingFragrance the Icing

After it is melted, add to it 6 grams of Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. We also want to match that with 6 grams of Vanilla White Color Stabilizer. This is because some fragrance oils can cause discoloration to soap and we need ours to stay white in order for it to look like icing. Once those two are added, stir to incorporate everything.

Apply the Soap IcingApply the Soap Icing

Carefully, drizzle the melted soap over your bundt cake bubble bars. Pour it gently and in a back and forth motion, as you would ice cinnamon rolls. Then, grab your bottle of rubbing alcohol that you prepared at the beginning of this recipe. Spray the bubble bars with the melted soap on them with the rubbing alcohol. This will help out for the last step.

Top the Bubble Bars OffTop the Bubble Bars Off

The final step in the recipe is to top our bubble bars off with “nuts”. We needed to spray the icing with rubbing alcohol in order to get these to stick. Take orange peel, cut and sifted, and sprinkle it on top of the bubble bars. This step helps complete the look of authentic orange juice cake. Allow some time for everything to dry before moving them. Once they are finished drying, you have completed this fun project!

Your Orange Juice Cake Bubble Bars are now ready to be used! When you want to put the bubble bars to use, all you have to do is simply crumble up some pieces from one of them. Place these under your warm running bath water and see the wonderful bubbly lather these create! We hope you enjoyed following along with us to make these!

Today we are showing our Pomegranate Whipped Soap Recipe, which is made from quality ingredients that can all be found at Natures Garden. It is important to us that we create and upload projects for people of all levels of expertise in the soap and candle making industries. Recipes like this one also work great for when you are running low on time to create or if you are looking for something fun to make with your children!

Ingredients Found at Natures Garden:

Whipped Soap Base
Pomegranate Fragrance Oil
Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant
Neon Pink FUN Soap Colorant
4 oz Clear PET Jars
White Straight Lid Smooth 58/400

Other Ingredients and Equipment You Will Need:

Powdered Sugar
Scale
Bowl
Mixing Spoon
Rubber Spatula
Hand Held Mixer
Deep Mixing Bowls

Total Recipe Weights:

454 grams Whipped Soap Base
250 grams Powdered Sugar
35 grams Pomegranate Fragrance Oil
15 drops Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant
2 drops Neon Pink FUN Soap Colorant

Before we begin making this recipe, it is important to clean and sanitize your work area and all of your packaging materials that will be used. We also always want to make the suggestion that you wear gloves, protective clothing, and a hair net while preparing these homemade cosmetic recipes.

Ingredient Spotlight: Whipped Soap BaseIngredient Spotlight: Whipped Soap Base

To get started, we need to get our ingredients together and ready to be used. The main ingredient this recipe requires us to use is a whipped soap base. Our whipped soap base at Natures Garden is made from glycerin, sorbitol, stearic acid, and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate. SCI is a type of surfactant that is commonly added to skin care products because it leaves the skin feeling soft, hydrated, and moisturized. Our whipped soap base is a creamy, luscious product that can be very useful when making homemade projects in this industry. It is versatile and most often used to make body butters, shaving soap, bath frosting, and foaming sugar scrubs.

If you want to brighten up your whipped soap, adding soap coloring and/or Natures Garden body safe fragrance oils offer you that. There are some fragrance oils that may discolor your products, including whipped soap. Discoloration can usually be corrected by using vanilla white color stabilizer. Before choosing the fragrance oils you want to use, you will probably want to know whether or not your product will discolor, and by how much. We tested all of our fragrance oils in cold process soap and made a chart for the results, which you can check out.

Weighing Out the Whipped Soap BaseWeighing Out the Whipped Soap Base

Now that you know more about how our whipped soap base works, we can get started on our project of the day. First, you will need to get out some mixing bowls and a scale to accurately measure your ingredients. We always choose to use a digital scale when making recipes because we believe that it is the most accurate at weighing out the ingredients. With which ever type of scale that you prefer to use, weigh out 454 grams of the whipped soap base. Set it aside for now while we prepare the other three ingredients we are going to need.

Weigh Out the Powdered SugarWeigh Out the Powdered Sugar

Next, take out another mixing bowl. You are going to need to weigh out 250 grams of your powdered sugar. Any brand of powdered sugar will be fine to use in our recipes. Once you have measured out this ingredient, you can set it aside for the time being just as with the whipped soap base. We are going to be returning to it in a later step.

Add in the Pomegranate Fragrance OilAdd in the Pomegranate Fragrance Oil

For the next step, you will need to take out a small bowl. Place the bowl on your scale and measure out 35 grams of the Natures Garden Pomegranate Fragrance Oil. Then, add it into your whipped soap base. The pomegranate fragrance oil is one of our single note fragrances and it smells of delicious fresh, fruity pomegranate slices. This is one of the best selling fragrance oils that we carry at our company. Some of our other best sellers are Black Raspberry and Vanilla, Fresh Brewed Coffee – WORLDS BEST, and NG Aqua di Gio Type. On our website we have a complete list of our best sellers that you can check out.

FUN Soap Colorant Collection at Natures GardenFUN Soap Colorant Collection at Natures Garden

Natures Garden carries a multitude of colorants for soap. We use these in the majority of our recipes to make them bright, colorful, and beautiful. There are 20 shades of these listed on our website. Some of the ones we have are Jailhouse Red, Ultramarine Blue, and Neon Yellow. They are all made using glycerine, vegetable glycerin, and different pigments. No chemical preservatives have been added to our colorants, and they are also completely vegan. They are non-bleeding and do not morph during the saponification process in soap. The FUN Soap Colorants page goes into detail with each of the colorants that we carry. Each section gives the ingredients of the colorants, what each of them are typically used in.

Adding the Colorants InAdding the Colorants In

Now, it is time to add in the colorants! For this recipe, we need both the Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant and the Neon Pink FUN Soap Colorant. Give the bottles a shake before opening them up because sometimes the pigment can separate from the vegetable glycerin.  Taking the bowl containing the whipped soap base, add 15 drops of the tomato red colorant. Stir your mixture. Then, add 2 drops of the neon pink colorant to the same bowl. Incorporate the colors thoroughly. The amount for the color suggestions we gave for this recipe were based on the color we wanted our product to be. We were looking for more of a medium pink color as opposed to a deep red for this. If you prefer your whipped soap to be a darker red or a light pink, however, simply manipulate the colors until it reaches the look that you want it to be.

Mixing All of It TogetherMixing All of It Together

At this time, you are going to need to get out your hand mixer. We just use a typical kitchen hand mixer when making recipes. Do not use a mixer that you need for cooking food. Make sure that you are only using a mixer that is specifically for cosmetic projects and will never again be used for cooking. Turn on your mixer and begin whipping the whipped soap base. Continue to mix the combination of the whipped soap base, pomegranate fragrance oil, and the FUN Soap Colorants until it reaches a point where it starts looking like whipped frosting.

Folding in the Powdered SugarFolding in the Powdered Sugar

After your mixture is combined completely, we can move on to our next step. You will need to grab the bowl that you have the powdered sugar in from step two. Pour and add the powdered sugar into the mixture. Using a rubber spatula, fully fold this dry powder portion into the wet whipped soap base.

Incorporating the MixtureIncorporating the Mixture

Keep folding in the powdered sugar until it is no longer visible. After you have done so, you will need to grab the hand mixer once again. We now need to repeat whipping the base as we did before, very thoroughly. In between mixing, use the spatula to clean the sides of the bowl as you feel it is necessary. Make sure all of your ingredients have been fully incorporated before you move on to the next step.

Get Your Mixture to a Frosting ConsistencyGet Your Mixture to a Frosting Consistency

Continue to mix everything with the hand mixer until it reaches a certain point. The texture is the most important part in this step. You can stop mixing your whipped soap once its appearance has reached a frosting like consistency. Allow your whipped soap mixture about five minutes, left alone, to fully set up.

Scoop the Whipped Soap into the JarsScoop the Whipped Soap into the Jars

After the whipped soap frosting has had enough time to set up, we have reached the final step! With your 4 oz. clear PET jars at the ready with their matching lids, we can finish our whipped soap off. Take out a mixing spoon and use it to scoop the foaming bath icing evenly into all seven of your jars. Then, finish your product off by screwing the white dome lids on each one of them. If you would like to use jars other than these clear PET ones, we also carry a 4 oz white double wall jar and a 4 oz black double wall jar

Your Pomegranate Whipped Soap is now ready to use, yay! We hope that you had fun creating this recipe with us today! If you want to share your results, thoughts, or questions with us, we can be reach on Facebook as the Natures Garden Company, on Twitter with the handle ngscents, and on Instagram with the handle ngscents as well. Whipped Cupcake Soap RecipeWhipped Cupcake Soap Recipe

Another recipe of ours that uses our whipped soap base is the Whipped Cupcake Soap. This shows a different type of soap you can make with a whipped soap base. With this recipe, you can make up to four pounds of soap. The ingredients we used to make it include luscious cocoa butter, Daisy Type Fragrance Oil, whipped soap base, vegetable glycerin, and the Neon Pink FUN soap colorant. We made this soap using our square loaf mold, which gives it its shape. If you want to make your whipped cupcake soap even cuter, try adding some colorful sprinkles on top like you can see in our picture! This recipe is another super simple one to follow along with, and it shows what else you can do with the Natures Garden whipped soap base.

Homemade Pomegranate Recipes

Next, she talks about a Pomegranate Repair Mask for Aging Skin that can boost your skin and protect your collagen. The third recipe is a Pomegranate Peel Scrub that has the ability to heal acne. Lastly, Deborah mentions a Pomegranate Body Scrub that will exfoliate and hydrate your skin. Pomegranate has beneficial properties to the skin, which she goes into detail in on her blog. Go and try it out if you are interested in trying these recipes!

We also want to share a fun festive pomegranate jello dessert that can be made for any occasion. Olive Oil PomaceOlive Oil in Soap Making

At Natures Garden we have many different methods for soap making, which we like to share with our customers through website descriptions, recipes, pictures, and videos. You can hot process soap, cold process soap, or make melt and pour soap, as some examples. We also sell many different waxes, butters, and oils that you can use to make your soap. For instance, we have Joy Wax, Pillar of Bliss Wax, Shea butter, cocoa butter, castor oil, and what we will be discussing today: olive oil. You will be learning a lot about our Pomace Olive Oil and how to use olive oil in soap making. There are so many recipes on our website that use this product, which we will introduce you to. Whether you are trying this method out for the first time, or you are an experienced master at it, there is a lot to learn!

Pomace Olive Oil

Using olive oil in soap making is actually a very common method. It is generally the number one oil used in most soap makers’ recipes! This oil is easily available, easy to use, and highly beneficial, which is why it is so common. Pomace olive oil is both thick and rich in texture. It has a greener shade than some other olive oils out there that are more yellow in color. Extra virgin olive oil and Grade A oils are made from the pits of olives that go through solvent extraction. Once there have been multiple pressings and extractions, what is left over is what makes up the pomace grade olive oil.

There are multiple reasons that this is such a common ingredient in soap making. Many essential fatty acids are present in olive oil including palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and these ingredients provide benefits for the hair and the scalp when used in shampoo. They help promote health of the scalp, treat dry scalp, and can treat hair loss. It boosts hair growth because it massages and increases blood flow to the hair follicles as well. There are additional benefits that olive oil provides to the skin. It is incredibly moisturizing, which makes it a popular element of massage oils. Olive oil is used to make bars of soap that are a good hard texture. You can also use olive oil to make lip balms, scrubs, lotions, and more!

Castile Soap

Castile is one type of soap that is made from 100% olive oil. This type of soap contains only olive oil, lye, and water. There are many benefits to using this product. A major benefit of soap containing olive oil is that they are great for sensitive skin and dry skin. Castile soap is typical to use on babies because they have sensitive skin and this type of soap is highly conditioning and super gentle. Olive oil gives soap a moisturizing texture, nourishes and restores skin by making it feel extra smooth. Different kinds of soap have certain properties about them. Castile is made with 100% olive oil, which means it is not a cleansing soap. Other types of soap blend a few types of oils to balance out different properties, such as cleansing and conditioning. Bastille soap, for example, blends separate oils together to do this.

Bastille Soap

Another type of soap made from olive oil is called Bastille Soap. Unlike Castile soap, which is made with 100% olive oil, Bastille is made up of 75%. The olive oil is mixed with other oils as well, including coconut oil and castor oil. It is made up of water, lye, olive oil (75%), coconut oil 76 (20%), and castor oil (5%). As previously mentioned, olive oil is highly conditioning but not cleansing. Coconut oil is highly cleansing, but not conditioning, which causes this soap to balance itself out. The castor oil is high in conditioning, bubbly lather, and creamy lather. This helps the soap bubble better, have a softer texture for your skin, and nourishes dry skin. Without this balance, your soap could leave your skin dry and dehydrated. We have a list of soaping oil properties that you can help you understand the properties of soaping oils.

Marseille Soap

A third type of soap that contains olive oil is called Marseille. This type must contain at least 72% olive oil. Marseille soap is composed of some other vegetable oils, palm oil, and coconut oil. Palm oil adds hardness and creamy lathering properties to this soap, balancing out the conditioning of the olive oil. There are also benefits such that it is an anti-bacterial and it being a very gentle type of soap, which are both bonuses for your skin. This soap can also be used in shampoos, shaving soaps, and shower gels. There are many other products that it can be used to create as well, like laundry detergent, a jewelry cleaner, or a detergent for your dishwasher. Now we will get into some recipes from Natures Garden that contain olive oil that we would like to share with you!

Cold Process Soap Making Class

We are going to be mentioning some of our recipes that use olive oil and are cold processed soap. Before we begin, we would suggest taking a look at our FREE class for making cold process soap. If you are unfamiliar with this process and would like to gain a better understanding of it before attempting it yourself, this class can help with that. Cold process soap is made with fresh lye, which can be highly dangerous if it is not handled properly. Lye is used to make all soap and you need to be sure that you are taking the proper precautions. This is why it is important to educate yourself about the ingredients that you will be working with.

Blueberry Cheesecake Cold Process SoapRecipes with Olive Oil: Blueberry Cheesecake Cold Process Soap

We would like to talk about using olive oil to make cold process soap. This is our handcrafted recipe for Blueberry Cheesecake Cold Process soap. This will provide you with four pounds of soap. In this recipe you are going to combine the olive oil with palm oil, coconut oil 76, fractionated coconut oil, castor oil, safflower oil, and Shea butter. Most soaps combine several oils with butters just like this one does. This mixture creates the soft and moisturizing properties that customers desire in soap and other products. The perfect blue swirls in this cold processed soap make the finished product look so beautiful. Another bonus is that it smells delicious because it is made with our Blueberry Cheesecake fragrance oil. This handcrafted cp soap recipe is unique in that we have used milk instead of water for a portion of our lye solution.

Doggy Shampoo Cold Process SoapRecipes with Olive Oil: Doggy Shampoo Cold Process Soap

This is such a fun recipe that anyone out there can create. We actually got this recipe idea when we saw cute cupcakes with dogs on them and thought we could turn it into soap! You will be able to get three doggy shampoo soaps out of this. They make the perfect addition to your shower routine and can also add something cute to your bathroom counter or shower shelf. It can be a cute gift to give to a friend as well.

This creation uses coconut oil 76, palm oil, castor oil, fractionated coconut oil, and of course, the olive oil. The combination of each of these oils makes this soap into a buttery, smooth texture. The overall product definitely has a strong conditioning component added to it by the olive oil. Our Sage Leaf Fragrance Oil adds scent to it, which is reminiscent of fresh sage leaves. You can also switch this recipe up and make it your own by shaping the dog however you want, or by adding different FUN soap colorants if you would like to.

Other Recipes That Use Olive Oil

Although olive oil is very common when making cold process soap, it can be used for other things as well. Many of our other homemade recipes use it as well, other than those with soap making. We have a large variety of these listed on our website, but the possibilities are endless when you have the creativity! The ones that we are going to be talking about today are our Black Cherry Bath Bomb and Fruity Rings Sugar Scrub.

Black Cherry BombBlack Cherry Bath Bomb

Taking a bath from time to time can be relaxing and rejuvenating to the body and the mind. You might even enjoy adding a bubbly bath bomb to the hot water. We have created many of these on our website with multiple fragrance oils, other types of oils, powders, and soap colorants to give them some color. To create your bubbly bath, hold the bath bomb underneath the hot water as you are filling up the tub. It will begin disintegrating, fizzing, and forming into a swirling bubble bath full of color and a strong, yummy scent. This recipe uses one of the Natures Garden original fragrances and this one is one of our top sellers: Black Cherry BOMB. It has a VERY strong scent of black cherry that is sweet but not overly sweet.

To make this, you will mix the olive oil in with the fragrance oil and the castor oil. These ingredients will moisturize your skin when you are taking a bath using this bath bomb. There are some dry ingredients that contribute to the softening of the skin and provide other benefits as well. The Beet Root Powder gives the pink and red color to the bath bomb and provides multiple nutrients such as beta carotene, vitamins B5, B1, and C. It also contains selenium, potassium, phosphorous, glycine, tyrosine, zinc, magnesium, and tryptophan. Bentonite Clay Powder helps clean skin impurities, helps with oily skin, and in this case, makes the bath bomb harder and more durable in order to disintegrate better. This recipe makes five large bath bombs, which lasts for a while!

Fruity Ring Sugar ScrubFruity Rings Emulsified Sugar Scrub

This Fruity Rings Sugar Scrub recipe will make eight 4 ounce jars of product, which is a lot! The directions are simple to follow, and the results will definitely leave your skin feeling silky smooth and rejuvenated. To make this scrub, combine the olive oil with sweet almond oil, cocoa butter deodorized, Shea butter, beeswax, and the emulsifying wax. Each one of these ingredients will help to create a sugar scrub that moisturizes exceptionally and thoroughly nourishes the skin on a deeper level.

Shea butter actually contains many of the same essential fatty acids that olive oil does. It has palmitic, stearic, linoleic, and oleic. We use Shea butter in many of our products because it has the perfect texture for loads of recipes. We use it to make lip gloss, lip balms, and many bath and body products including lotion, body scrubs, and of course, soap. When it is used to make soap, it can add really great conditioning and creamy lathering properties to it. There are some added aesthetic benefits to this sugar scrub as well, which we all love. It has a rainbow look to it when placed in the jar in layers, and give off the delicious scents of lemon, verbena, vanilla sugar, and grapefruit that flow wonderfully together!

All of the recipes we have mentioned in this blog are our very own and have all been handmade. We hope that you have enjoyed getting to learn more about pomace olive oil and how useful it can be for your soap making!

Fragrance Oils for the New Year: Ancient Celebrations of the New Year

Although we have seemingly always celebrated the New Year on the first of January, not every single civilization in the history of the world has followed the same kind of calendar. In fact, some civilizations used a very different calendar. One of these different kinds of calendars includes an ancient calendar from the Romans, which considers 304 days to be a full year. While this method was created to match the vernal equinox, the calendar began to fall out of sync with the natural schedule. So, ancient Romans, including Julius Caesar, gathered mathematicians and astronomers to create a better fitting calendar. If you are interested in learning more about different ways ancient civilizations have marked a new year, then you may want to check out Ancient Origin’s article on The Ancient Origins of New Year’s Celebrations.

9 Ways to Use Lanolin

99 Ways to Use Lanolin Ways to Use Lanolin

Lanolin is one of those products that you don’t think about, but it is in probably some of the most popular skin care products around. It can also be found in cosmetics, first-aid salves and believe it or not in some industrial grade products such as lubricants and rust-proof coatings.

What’s amazing about this stuff is that it is all natural! It is an oil that comes from the wool of sheep and is nature’s “raincoat” for the animals. Lanolin protects them from all the elements around them; from the dampness of rain and snow to the drying effects of the sun. One of the things that I like about lanolin is that even though it is naturally derived from the wool of sheep, it in no way harms them! It is done cruelty-free! In today’s world of animal’s rights that is a pretty important factor!

Lanolin has the amazing ability to hold up to 400 times its weight in water which means, not only is it a super-moisturizer, but it locks that moisture in and will give you baby soft, supple skin.  Lanolin easily absorbs into the skin, but keep in mind, a little goes a long way!  We have below 9 recipes that incorporate Lanolin in the pure form that is an amazing ingredient to blend into lotions or balms, and Lanolin Oil USP Liquid which is less viscous and is wonderful for soaps and shampoos. We at Nature’s Garden hope you enjoy creating some of these for your family, friends, clients or customers! So here you are, 9 ways to use Lanolin in your creations.

99 ways to Use Lanolin Beard Balm Recipe ways to Use Lanolin Beard Balm Recipe

Our first recipe is the perfect balm for your men’s line of bath and body products. Beards and mustaches are incredibly popular among guys today. In many cases, you see more hair on their face than on their head, which may mean something, and I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. At any rate, I do have an idea that their beards can get as unruly head of hair! Beard Balm is a perfect way to tame that facial hair!  With skin healthy oils and butters such as, jojoba oil, olive oil and shea butter and lanolin, their skin will be soft and moisturized as well as their beards and mustaches. Then, add in some Cedarwood Virginia Essential Oil for that woodsy, masculine scent and you will have yourself a best seller among your clients with facial hair!

99 Ways to Use Lanolin Beard Soap Recipe Ways to Use Lanolin Beard Soap Recipe

The first step to having a good beard is to have a good soap. After all, beard is hair and the first step to having good hair is to have a good shampoo, right?

Our Beard Soap recipe is a good start to beard maintenance. It’s a hot process soap that uses liquid lanolin USP which has the same benefits as the lanolin that comes in the more solid form. You also have the nourishing oils and butters of jojoba, sweet almond, and cocoa butter, to just name a few. Your beard will feel soft and moisturized. Not only does this beard soap clean without stripping but it hydrates your beard, and it will do the same to your skin beneath. We used our Gurjun Balsam Essential Oil for a soft, aromatic fragrance that smells woodsy with a tiny bit of sweetness.

99 Ways to Use Lanolin Hydrating Hand Stick Recipe Ways to Use Lanolin Hydrating Hand Stick Recipe

Here’s a “handy” way to keep your hands moisturized and protected without the mess of carrying around a bottle of lotion. Our Hydrating Hand Stick is perfect for keeping in your purse, pocket, or even your kids’ backpacks! With skin happy ingredients like shea butter, olive oil and lanolin oil USP liquid, you can be sure your hands will always be shielded from the bitter winter elements. They will stay soft and hydrated and since the ingredients are easily absorbed into your skin you will not have that greasy feeling some hand lotions leave behind. We’ve chosen our Nectarine & Mint fragrance Oil that has a citrus scent with a light touch of mint. A perfect scent that does not become too overpowering.

99 Ways to Use Lanolin Cold Process Shaving Soap Recipe Ways to Use Lanolin Cold Process Shaving Soap Recipe

You would be surprised at how popular shaving soap really is. In all honesty, using shampoo on your beard is a big no-no! Shampoo is designed to strip all the oils and dirt from the hair.  That is all fine and good for your hair, but it’s not so fine and good for your beard. A dry beard is an itchy beard. You will want your beard moisturized and soft, with all those important skin oils still intact!

Our Cold Process Shaving Soap is the perfect gentle wash to keep your beard happy and healthy looking. We’ve used shea butter, apricot kernel oil and lanolin Oil USP liquid to help keep your beard hydrated and soft. Bentonite clay, which is not just for facial masks, gives this soap a nice glide to the lather and helps if you have oily skin. We’ve chosen our Black Ops fragrance oil that smells like the popular men’s cologne. It has a nice masculine scent of citrus followed by a nice woodsy undertone.

99 Ways to Use Lanolin Pooch Smooch Solid Shampoo Bar Recipe Ways to Use Lanolin Pooch Smooch Solid Shampoo Bar Recipe

Washing your dog can be such a hassle sometimes. If your dog doesn’t like bath time and you have a large puppy dog, it can start out looking like something out of a wrestling match!

Our Pooch Smooch Solid Shampoo Bar recipe won’t make getting Fido into the tub easier, but it will make the process of soaping them up a little less crazy! With these shampoo bars shaped like cute doggy bones, this is a gentle and easy soap recipe that uses our Oatmeal melt and pour soap, some skin beneficial Vitamin E and Lanolin Oil USP liquid. Your furry friend’s skin and fur will be moisturized, soft and have a nice, clean feel to their fur. Our Pooch Smooch fragrance oil that inspired this recipe has a light scent of melons and cucumbers. How cute would these look in your line of doggy care products? I say they would look adorable!

99 Ways to Use Lanolin Rejuvenating Foot Balm Recipe Ways to Use Lanolin Rejuvenating Foot Balm Recipe

Feet have it hard, wouldn’t you agree? You stand on them, walk on them, run on them, stick them into heels, tennis shoes, flip-flops. Or you just go barefoot! This happens to be one of my favorite things to do in the summertime! They support you all day, every day. Give your feet a much needed treat!

Give this Rejuvenating Foot Balm a try for those tired dogs! With shea butter, olive oil and lanolin oil USP liquid, it will give your feet some moisturizing protection.  You will have soft, smooth skin that will thank you for giving them a lift. We made it even better by adding essential oils that will help perk up your feet, and your nose too! We’ve chosen Peppermint (Redistilled), Tea Tree Australian, and Eucalyptus Globulus essential oils which are awesome for relaxing your body, soothe sore muscles and help heal skin conditions. After a long day, no matter what it is you do, give this foot balm a try!

How Do Our Customers Use Jack Frost Fragrance Oil?

Bath and body products that include this wonderful winter fragrance oil will perform well. Your homemade recipes for bath and body products can use a maximum of 5% for this scent. Also, this scent will perform perfectly in perfumes, as long as there is a fragrance oil concentration of no more than 5%. Furthermore, this minty scent can be used to create soaps through a variety of different methods. For example, our Cold Process Soap Testing Results revealed that this scent is great for creating soap using this method. Not only does adding this scent provide a perfect pour, but this batch will have other preferable qualities too. A batch containing this scent will have no ricing, no acceleration, and no separation. The final product will have a very strong fresh and clean mint scent and the bar will discolor to a brown color. Due to the 2% concentration of vanillin, adding vanilla white stabilizer may prevent some of the discoloration from occurring. However, there are more than forty ingredients that are used in fragrance manufacturing that could potentially contribute to discoloration in the final product. While we suggest not adding color to bath and body product containing this scent, you can use any color of soap colorant to achieve your desired hue.

Our customers can use this peppermint fragrance oil to create a wide variety of great room scenting products. Potpourri and incense can be formulated with a maximum of up 50% for this fragrance oil. Any household cleaning products can be created using no more than 5% of this scent in their recipe. Additionally, the fragrance oil’s scent will remain nice and strong in aroma bead products. Moreover, candle creations can be made using this sweet minty fragrance oil. Any candle products that are made with either vegetable waxes or paraffin wax can include up to 10% of this fragrance oil. Joy wax and wow wax will both perform perfectly for this fragrance oil. Also, the scent will remain nice and strong in candle products made of soy wax. While we recommend not using colorants for candle creations containing this scent, you can use any color of either liquid candle dye or a shredded color block to achieve your desired hue.  Remember to never use crayons to color your candles as they will clog your wick.
