Wax Paper

A Few Additional Preparations

When preparing any type of bath bomb or bath fizzy recipe, it is best that they are prepared in non-humid climates.  Bath bombs fizz when added to water due to the combination of baking soda and citric acid being added to water.  So, when prepared in humid climates the bath bombs can actually react to the moisture in the air itself.

Prior to making this recipe, pour some of your rubbing alcohol into your 8 ounce bullet bottle in order to be prepared.  Another option is witch hazel.  You can use witch hazel when creating bath bombs as well.  Both will work when creating bath bombs.  However, rubbing alcohol will create a harder bath fizzy.

About the Fragrance Oils

Before we begin, let’s take a look at the scents we will be using.  For this bath bomb recipe we will be working with two fragrance oils to create our candy apple bath bomb recipe.  First, we will use Natures Garden’s Caramel Fragrance Oil.  The second scent that we will be using in our bath fizzy project is the powerful Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil.

Caramel Fragrance OilCaramel Fragrance Oil

First, let’s look at Natures Garden’s Caramel fragrance oil.  This scent by  is the aroma of buttery, toffee caramel. It is a great to use by itself or to a wonderful scent to mix with others for creative fragrance blends.  In fact, it is smells wonderful when mixed with our Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil.

Green Apple Explosion Fragrance OilGreen Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil

Next, let’s talk about the Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil from Natures Garden!  This apple scent is unbelievably strong.  In my opinion, it is the strongest apple scent that we carry here at Natures Garden Candle and Soap Making Supplies. We believe we have quite possibly found the “spunkiest” green apple fragrance oil on earth!  We thought about calling it Granny Smith Apple, but this fragrance deserves a name that “pops” just like its aroma.  Thus, may we present:  Green Apple Explosion! This apple aroma is an NG original scent!

Prepare the Bath Bombs

To begin, we will prepare the bath bombs and allow them to setup before covering them with the melt and pour soap.  So, you will want to put on your apron and gloves before starting.

Recipe Weights for the Green Bath Bomb Portion

182 grams Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate
300 grams Citric Acid
600 grams Baking Soda
9 grams Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil
9 grams Caramel Fragrance Oil
4 grams Lime Green FUN Soap Colorant
4 grams Neon Green FUN Soap Colorant

Prepare the Powdered Ingredients for the Candy Apple Bath Bombs Recipe

Prepare the Baking SodaFirst, you will need a deep mixing bowl.  To your mixing bowl, add the baking soda.  Then, use your hands to break any clumps that you may find in the baking soda.

Add the Sodium Cocoyl IsethionateNext, to the bowl containing the baking soda, add the sodium cocoyl isethionate.  Then, use your hands to blend the ingredients together.  Once again, as you are mixing, break up any clumps that you find in the mixture.

Add the Citric AcidThe final powdered ingredient that we will be adding is the citric acid.  So, add the citric acid to the bowl.  Then, mix the ingredients together.  Finally, break any lumps found in the mixture apart just as you did before.

Scenting and Coloring the Caramel Apple Bath Bombs Recipe

Coloring the Caramel Apple Bath Bombs Recipe

At this time, we will color and scent the candy apple bath bombs.  So, to the bowl containing the powdered ingredients, add the fragrance oils.  First, you will need to add 9 grams of the caramel fragrance oil.  In addition, add 9 grams of the green apple explosion fragrance oil.  Finally, we will add the two colorants.  So, to the same bowl add 4 grams of the lime green colorant and 4 grams of the neon green FUN Soap Colorant from Natures Garden.  Once you have added the ingredients, use your hands to mix everything together.  You will want to be sure everything is mixed thoroughly before moving on.

Prepare the Candy Apple Bath Bomb Mixture for the Molds

Prepare the Candy Apple Bath Bomb Mixture for the MoldsNow, you will need the bottle of rubbing alcohol that you prepared earlier.  Then, begin spraying the candy apple bath bomb mixture with rubbing alcohol.  You will want to spray in small amounts.  So, spray a small amount of the rubbing alcohol and then use your hands to mix.  Continue spraying and mixing.  You will want to repeat this process until it reaches a point that you can squeeze the mixture and it holds a form.  However, be careful not to overspray the mixture.  If this happens, your bath bomb will become too wet and it will not fizz when it is added to the bathtub.

Fill the Bath Bomb Molds

Fill the Bath Bomb MoldsOnce your bath bomb mixture is at the proper consistency, you can fill the bath bomb molds.  You will need a total of seven sets of bath bomb molds.  Begin filling each of your molds.  Make sure you are packing the molds tightly.  You will need to fill a total of seven molds.

Putting the Candy Apple Bath Bomb TogetherWhen you have filled all seven molds, you can put the two halves together.  Before pressing the two halves together, spray each one with rubbing alcohol.  Then, press them together.  Allow the bath bombs to setup overnight before moving on.

Adding the Lollipop Stick

Adding the Lollipop Stick

Once your bath fizzies have setup, remove them from the bath bomb molds.  Then, you will need to add one lollipop stick to each bath bomb.  Place a stick through the center of each bath bomb.  You want to apply gentle pressure and slowly insert the stick.  If you apply too much pressure or try to move too quickly, your bath bomb can begin cracking.  Place the candy apple bath bombs on a sheet of wax paper.  Alternatively, you can place them on a silicone baking mat.

Prepare the Melt and Pour Soap Base

The next step will be preparing the melt and pour soap base.  We will begin by preparing a caramel colored hemp oil melt and pour soap base.  Then, we will go over it with the clear melt and pour soap base.  Now, I am sure you are wondering why we are using two different types of soap base for this portion of the candy apple bath bombs recipe.  Well, we first attempted this recipe using only the clear base.  It took quite a few layers to get a full coverage and used a lot of soap base.  So, then, we added a caramel colored layer using the hemp oil soap base.  However, this look did not have the shiny caramel look that we wanted.  So, we ended up doing a layer of the hemp oil soap base to get the full coverage.  Then, we added a second layer using the clear soap base.

Total Recipe Weights for Hemp Oil Soap Portion

100 grams Hemp Oil MP Soap Base
2 grams Caramel Fragrance Oil
2 grams Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil
15 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
2 drops Red Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Creating the First Layer of Melt and Pour Soap

Creating the First Layer of Melt and Pour SoapNow, we will prepare the first layer of caramel soap.  For the first layer, we will use the hemp oil melt and pour soap base.  So, in a small bowl, weigh out and melt the hemp oil soap base.  You will want to melt the mp soap in 30-second bursts until the base is in a liquid state.  Then, add the red oxide and yellow oxide FUN Soap Colorants.  Finally, add both the caramel fragrance oil and the green apple explosion fragrance oil.  Stir the melted soap base to blend everything together.

Adding the First Layer of Melt and Pour Soap to the Candy Apple Bath Bombs

Adding the First Layer of Melt and Pour Soap to the Candy Apple Bath Bombs
At this time, you will need a disposable pipette.  Using the disposable pipette, drizzle the caramel colored hemp oil soap over the green bath bombs.  Then, allow the soap to completely setup before moving on.

Total Recipe Amounts For Diamond Clear Soap Portion

100 grams Diamond Clear MP Soap Base
2 grams Caramel Fragrance Oil
2 grams Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil
10 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
1 drops Red Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Prepare the Clear Melt and Pour Soap

Once you have coated your candy apple bath bomb with the hemp oil mp soap, we will cover it with a clear caramel colored soap base.

Creating the Clear Caramel SoapPrepare the Clear Soap Base

So, weigh out and melt 100 grams of the diamond clear soap base.  Then, add the caramel and apple fragrance oils. In addition, add 10 drops of yellow oxide FUN Soap Colorant and 1 drop of the red oxide FUN Soap Colorant.  Stir to blend the ingredients together.

Adding the Clear Caramel Soap to the Bath BombsAdd the Clear Caramel Colored Soap Base

Use a disposable pipette to drizzle each caramel apple with the caramel coating. Once your soap sets up, your Candy Apple Bath Bombs are ready to use!

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Necessary Preparations Prior to Starting

First of all, you are going to want to clean all of your equipment and your work station. This will make sure that your finished product is clean and free of contaminants. This process isn’t difficult and will absolutely benefit your homemade products. So, sanitize the counter top or the table that you are going to work on. In addition, clean and sanitize all of the equipment you will be using.

Also, you may want to get all of your supplies together and within reach of your work space. This way you will have all the equipment ready to use for creating the melt and pour soap. You will also want to fill your spray bottle with rubbing alcohol so that you can spray the freshly poured melt and pour soap quickly. This will release any air bubble that pop up when pouring your mp soap base.  In addition, rubbing alcohol will help the layers adhere to each other.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Getting the Whole Star Anise ReadyBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Getting the Whole Star Anise Ready

First, you are going to get your whole star anise herb ready for later use in the homemade soap recipe. Since you are going to need this cosmetic herb for your clear layer of melt and pour, it will help to have the stars ready. Since it will save you time to get this herb ready, you should pick out your Star Anise before you begin the recipe. So, look through your bag of Whole Star Anise to find some whole pieces of the Star Anise that you would like to use in the soap. Although you can use broken pieces as long as you don’t mind that ascetic in your final bars of soap. Regardless of your preference, you will need to get together 16 individual whole star anise pieces for this melt and pour soap recipe.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Preparing the Clear Layer of SoapBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Preparing the Clear Layer of Soap

Next, you are going to get the clear melt and pour soap ready to use for your first layer. So, grab your scale and weigh out 200 grams of your Natures Garden Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap into a microwave safe bowl. After, you will need to use your microwave to melt your clear soap base. Melting your soap base should be done in short bursts. You want to use thirty second busts in the microwave until all of the soap is completely melted. This method of melting your soap will prevent you from accidentally over heating your mp soap base.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe After the Soap has Melted

Now, that your melt and pour soap has finished melting you are going to be ready to pour the soap into your mold. You don’t need to add any color to this layer because you will need to see the Star Anise Whole through the melt and pour soap. Further, we don’t need to add fragrance oil to this layer. But, don’t worry about your soap because the bottom layer will be scented. We just can’t scent this clear layer or the fragrance would add a yellow tint to the layer. This is because the soap doesn’t have a color and the Bamboo Hemp Fragrance Oil has a slight yellow tint. So, this layer of your soap should remain unscented and uncolored.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring Your First Soap LayerBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring Your First Soap Layer

After your clear, unscented melt and pour soap has entirely melted, you are ready to pour your melted soap. Be sure to move quickly as you pour your soap as you are going to need to place in the herbs before your soap sets up. So, retrieve the soap mold and the star anise that you have chosen for the top layer of your melt and pour soap. Now, pour your melt and pour soap into your soap mold.

Next, take your whole star anise and place each individual star anise into the center of each cavity in the soap mold. After all of the star anise has been placed, spray the top of your soap layer with the rubbing alcohol. This will release bubbles in the melted soap and help your layers to stick together better. Now, make sure that your layer is completely set up before moving on to the next step.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe After the Clear Soap Layer is Completely Set UpBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring the Second Clear Soap Layer

Now, you will see that your first clear layer has not completely covered the entire whole star anise. This amount of melt and pour soap was intentional, as it will help with the placement of the star anise. Next, we will be pouring the second half of the clear layer to completely cover the star anise whole. The thought process behind this method of embedding the herb was that this will help to hold the herb in place. So, this means that your stars will be less likely to be crooked or start to float. So, your star anise will be better at staying where you put it, in the center and top of your bars of soap.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring the Second Clear LayerBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring the Second Clear Layer

Next, you are going to pour the second half of the clear melt and pour soap layer. So, melt another portion of 200 grams of clear melt and pour soap. You are going to want to melt this batch the same way that you did before to prevent burning the soap. So, use your microwave in 30 second increments. Before you pour this portion of clear melt and pour soap make sure to spray the previous layer with rubbing alcohol. After, pour the second clear layer onto your previously set up soap layer. Then, spray the top of the melt and pour soap layer with the rubbing alcohol.  Allow the final clear layer to completely setup before moving to the next step.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Preparing the Second Layer of Your SoapBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Preparing the White Layer of Your Soap

Next, you are going to be preparing the white layer of your melt and pour soap bars. So, grab your scale and weigh out 590 grams of the Natures Garden’s Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap Base. Next, you will need to melt your soap base with a microwave. Again, we recommend that you use 30 second increments until the soap is entirely liquid. After your soap is entirely melted you are ready to add the fragrance oil. So, weigh out 29 grams of Natures Garden’s Bamboo Hemp Fragrance Oil. Then, you are going to add this refreshing fragrance oil to your melted soap base. Stir in the fragrance evenly to make sure that all of the scent has been incorporated. After, you are ready to move on to the next step.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring the White Layer of Your SoapBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Pouring the White Layer of Your Soap

Now, you are ready to pour your white layer of Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap Base into your soap mold. This white melt and pour soap will be the bottom layer for your finished soap bars. After this final layer is poured, you will want to spray the top with some of the rubbing alcohol. This will help to remove the air bubbles that may be trapped under the surface of this soap layer. Once you spray the soap, wait for this layer to entirely set up. After this white soap layer is entirely hardened, you will be ready for the next step in this process.

Bamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Slice Your Finished SoapBamboo Hemp Soap Recipe Slice Your Finished Soap

Next, you are going to want to slice your finished slab of soap into individual bars. First, remove the melt and pour soap from your mold. Place the mold on the table or counter top, flip it over, and gently press to release the bamboo hemp soap from the mold. Then, turn the soap over so you can see the top clear layer. You will notice, the mold that you have used will provide you with a single slab of soap, but there are indented portions that are designed for easy cutting. Before you cut, you are going to want to set your slab of layered soap onto the cutting board. Now, you can cut your soap using a knife, or the soap cutter typically used with a mitre box for soap making. So, use your chosen cutting implement to slice along the lower sections of the melt and pour soap slab. Once you cut along each line you will end up with 16 individual soap bars that each soap embedded with a whole star anise. Now, you have completed your melt and pour soaps and are ready to use your finished soap!

6 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer

Yellow Layer:

120 grams Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap

10 drops Yelp Yellow FUN Soap Colorant

6 grams Best Friends Fragrance Oil

6 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer

Other ingredients needed:

Dome Top Oval Mold Market Mold

Rubbing Alcohol

4 Mixing Bowls

Mixing Spoons

Scale

Directions:

First, you’ll want to start by measuring and weighing out 120 grams of Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap into each bowl. Each bowl will become a different layer for your soap. Then take your first bowl and begin to melt down the soap in the microwave until it is fully melted. When it is melted, add 12 drops of Neon Blue FUN Soap Colorant, 6 grams of Best Friends Fragrance Oil, and 6 grams of Vanilla White Color Stabilizer. Mix it together very thoroughly. Once it is fully mixed, pour your soap into your molds about ¼ of the way full, leaving enough room for the other colors. To make it more straight across, make sure to pour the soap into the middle of the mold and letting it move to the edges itself. Then make sure to spray it with rubbing alcohol. This will get rid of any air bubbles that may form. Then let that layer sit.

layering melt and pour soap

layering melt and pour soap

Once the blue layer has sat and hardened, put your second bowl of soap into the microwave and completely melt it down. Once it is melted, add 15 drops of Ultramarine Violet FUN Soap Colorant, 6 grams of fragrance, and 6 grams of stabilizer. Mix together thoroughly. Before you pour in the purple layer, make sure to once again spray the blue layer with alcohol so the layers will successfully adhere to each other. Then carefully pour the purple on top of the blue, filling the mold another ¼ full. Spray this layer with alcohol to defeat the air bubbles and let it sit.

Once that layer has sat, repeat the same process for the next two layers! Don’t forget to spray each layer before adding the next so that they will adhere to each other! And also make sure to remember to let each layer sit and harden before adding the next! Once you have finished your last layer, make sure to let the soap sit in the mold, giving it time to harden. Then your new Easter Egg Soap is ready to enjoy!

tea tree soapTea Tree Soap

Hey all you crafty people out there, we’re bringing you a brand new unique free soap recipe, and it is actually made with amazing tea tree essential oil! Tea Tree Soap! This wonderful soap is made with actual tea tree essential oil, and is sure to delight you and all of your friends and family!  Deborah makes this soap for her family to help dry skin during the winter months.  So she wanted me to share this recipe with all of you!  This soap has a beautiful teal and white swirl to it, which is actually achieved very easily! The swirl is brought on by using cosmetic clay. The clay actually works as a barrier between the different soap mixtures, allowing them to swirl around each other!

Ingredients:

Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap

Kaolin Clay Powder

Tea Tree Australian Essential Oil

Teal FUN Soap Colorant

Basic Oval Mold Market Mold

Vegetable Glycerin

Rubbing Alcohol

Glass Mixing Bowls

Mixing Spoons

Scale

Total Weights for White Layer:

288 grams of Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap

7 grams of Tea Tree Australian Essential Oil

7 grams of Kaolin Clay Powder

15 grams of Vegetable Glycerin

Total Weights for Teal Layer:

288 grams of Hemp Oil Melt and Pour Soap

7 grams of Tea Tree Australian Essential Oil

10 drops of Teal FUN Soap Colorant

Directions:

Start by weighing out the amounts of soap for each layer in two separate bowls. (Using glass bowls is better for insulation, it helps the soap to stay melted longer once it has been melted down.) Then go ahead and measure out the amount of Kaolin Clay Powder in a bowl. Once you have measured out your clay, add 15 grams of vegetable glycerin and mix them together thoroughly until they become a paste.

tea tree soap

Next, go ahead and begin to melt down your soap. When the soap is partially melted, pour the clay and vegetable glycerin paste into one bowl of soap. Then add 10 drops of Teal FUN Soap Colorant into the second bowl of soap. Mix each bowl and then continue to melt them. You want to do these steps when the soaps are only partially melted because once it is fully melted, it sets up very fast. The only thing you should have to do when they are completely melted is adding the tea tree oil.

tea tree soap

Once your soaps are completely melted down, add 7 grams of Tea Tree Australian Essential to one bowl and 7 grams to the second bowl. Mix thoroughly. You’ll want to work quickly at this point as the soap tends to set up very fast.

Using your Basic Oval Mold Market Mold, quickly but carefully pour each bowl into the mold at the same time so as to achieve your swirl effect. You will have some soap left over after you have filled the mold. This is so that you will have enough time to fill the molds because the soap sets up very fast.
