Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Clean and Prepare

Before you begin creating your own scented lotion recipe, you may want to make a few preparations. First, you will want to gather your supplies for creating this recipe. Although this recipe doesn’t have very many ingredients, it can be useful to collect what you need before making your bath and body product. Also, prepare your equipment to make sure this process goes smoothly. Further, make sure that your equipment is all clean prior to starting to make your lotion recipe. Next, you will want to prepare an area that you can use to work on your cosmetic recipe. After you have made these preparations, you should be ready to work!

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Sanitizing the Water

Now that you have created your double boiler you are ready to sanitize and prepare your water. First, you will need to make sure that you have enough water to make your lotion. So, you will need at least seven and a half ounces of water. However, we would recommend that you add some extra water to your pot to ensure that you have enough water remaining after some of the water evaporates. You will need to heat the water to at least 185 degrees Fahrenheit.  Once you have your water at the proper temperature keep the water at this temperature for at a minimum of five minutes. Now that your water is sanitized, you are ready to create your scented lotion recipe!

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Cooling Your Sanitized Water

Now that any bacteria that may have been living in the water has been killed off, you can use this water to create this cosmetic lotion recipe. Although you needed to heat the water to sanitize it, you will need to cool the water before you can use it. Otherwise, the boiling hot water could potentially break down the lotion base, which would ruin the ingredients in the multi base. So, you will need to wait for your water’s temperature to drop to about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. While you wait for the temperature to lower to the proper temperature you can prepare some of your other cosmetic ingredients.

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Measuring the Fragrance OilShimmering Lotion Recipe: Measuring the Fragrance Oil

First, you can measure out the fragrance for you scented lotion recipe. So, grab and medium mixing bowl and some disposable pipettes. Since our disposable pipettes have measurements along the side, you can use one of these pipettes to measure out 9 milliliters of the Frost and Snowdrops Fragrance Oil. You will love the romantic aroma of this fragrance oil in your lotion recipe. This scent begins with top notes of refreshing winter air that are followed by the aroma of sweet winter flowers. Finally, this fragrance has base notes of iced musk, vanilla, and sandalwood. So, this is a fantastic ingredient that you can add to this lovely bath and body recipe.

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Adding the Lotion Multi BaseShimmering Lotion Recipe: Adding the Lotion Multi Base

Next, you will need to add the lotion base to your medium mixing bowl. You can gram scale to measure out four ounces of this lotion base. This base contains all the cosmetic oils and butters that you will need to nourish your skin. Further, this mulit base lotion contains a preservative as well. So, this premade mixture has all the cosmetic ingredients that you need to make a great homemade lotion!

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Multi Base for Making LotionShimmering Lotion Recipe: Multi Base for Making Lotion

If you are interested in learning a bit more about what is in our natural soy butter, then check out some of the cosmetic ingredients. First, this lotion bases contains sunflower oil, soya oil, vegetable glycerin, tocopherol (vitamin E), meadowfoam oil, jojoba oil, soya milk, aloe vera,  and vitamin C. These ingredients are included to nourish and care for the skin in various ways. Not only does this base nourish the skin, but it provides light texture and doesn’t leave behind a greasy feel. Further, this lotion base includes Germall Plus, which acts as a preservative. We include up to 1% of this preservative in our formulations. Although you can use up to 5% of this preservative safely, you can use 0.1 to 0.2 percent of Germall Plus to effectively preserve your lotion.

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Adding the Sanitized WaterShimmering Lotion Recipe: Adding the Sanitized Water

Now that your water has cooled, you are ready to add it to the lotion base. If you didn’t wait for the water to cool down properly, you could’ve potentially ruined the lotion base. This could occur because a multi base can start to break down once it gets too hot. So, you can retrieve your medium mixing bowl to add the sanitized water. Now, use your scale to measure out seven and a half ounces of water. Although your water won’t be scorching hot, it should still be warm enough, at one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, to melt the lotion base as the lotion making ingredients are mixed together.

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Mixing the Cosmetic Ingredients TogetherShimmering Lotion Recipe: Mixing the Cosmetic Ingredients Together

Next, we are going to emulsify these three cosmetic ingredients to create our scented lotion. So, you will need to use a stick blender to mix these ingredients thoroughly. Once all of your ingredients have been blended together fully, you will be finished with the mixer. Although your mix of cosmetic ingredients will be a bit thin at this point, the scented bath and body recipe will thicken as this the ingredients cool. Since we have a few more ingredients to add, your lotion should be ready to scoop into the wholesale cosmetic jars once everything has been combined.

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Adding the Mica DustShimmering Lotion Recipe: Adding the Mica Dust

Finally, you are ready to add the shimmer and shine to your scented lotion. So, you can use a measuring spoon to add two teaspoons of the diamond dust mica powder to your lotion mixture. Once you have added this cosmetic ingredient, you will need to thoroughly mix this ingredient into your scented lotion recipe. This will leave you with a finished product that glistens like sunlight off the fresh blanket of powdery snow!

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Coloring the LotionShimmering Lotion Recipe: Coloring the Lotion

Next, you are going to add the lovely coloring to your scented lotion recipe. So, you will need to be adding a cosmetic colorant to your mixture of cosmetic supplies. This will turn the color of your homemade lotion recipe to a beautiful, light blue hue. In order to get the right shade of blue, you will need to add just four drops of our Blue Da Bomb soap dye to your cosmetic mixture. After you have included this wonderful dye, you will need to mix this cosmetic ingredient into your recipe until you have reached the perfect frosty blue color for this magical winter season.

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Packaging Your Finished ProductShimmering Lotion Recipe: Packaging Your Finished Product

Now that all of the lotion making ingredients have been combined, you are ready to start packaging your finished product. However, you may need to wait a bit longer for your lotion mixture to cool. You will know that the lotion is ready to transfer when it gets thickens and the temperature of the lotion is at room temperature. At this point, you can either pour or scoop the lotion mixture into your cosmetic jars. After pouring your mixture, you will find that you will be able to fill two of our eight ounce jars. The very last step is putting the lids on your filled jars. So, now you can either store your finished lotion or start using it to nourish your skin!

Shimmering Lotion Recipe: Using Your Finished Product

Finally, your scented lotion is ready for you to use and enjoy! Of course, this cosmetic lotion recipe is perfect for nourishing dry, chapped, or even irritated skin. We at Natures Garden have the perfect fragrance oils for Independence Day! Of course, we have some truly patriotic scents that are all in celebration of this fine country. Not only do we have traditional American scents, but we have scented oils that were formulated to match the political parties. So, we thought about some of the important overall traits for the Democrats, the Republicans, and the Independents. Then, we ask our perfumist to translate these characteristics into real scents. So, we believe that these political scents are perfect for celebrating how far our country has come and looking forward to will happen next.

It’s important to remember where you came from and how you got there. On December 16, 1773, colonists began throwing shipments of tea into the Boston Harbor to protest the British Government for taxation without representation. This led to the American Revolution and ultimately our independence from Great Britain. So, we decided to create the Boston Tea Party Fragrance Oil to remind us of the important history that led to Independence Day. Finally, the scent finishes with notes of refreshing musk.

We believe that the aroma of our Independent Fragrance Oil truly captures the essence of Independent voters in America. Next, we used some similar personality traits of Republicans to capture the essence of these Americans in our Republican Fragrance Oil. Plus, you can use the bright citrus scent of the NG Early Sunrise Type Fragrance Oil. This delightful scent was based on Yankee’s Early Sunrise candle scent. This aroma has fresh notes of  lemon, grapefruit, clementine, green floral notes, and amber woods that blend together to create a very uplifting aroma. This fragrance oil is perfect for creating a bright citrus hand cream for on the go. I like to throw a container of sunrise scented cream in my purse. This is perfect for when my hands get a little dry or I could use a scent pick-me-up throughout the day.

My Favorite Fragrance Oils for Lotion: How to Make Perfume Last

While you may think that wearing both lotion and perfume would just be too much, they can actually be used to compliment one another. I had assumed that using both would make the scent too strong, but I was so wrong in thinking that. In fact, combining perfume and lotion will make your scent last even longer than either would last alone! If you are curious on how to do this, then check out an amazing article by Style Caster called How to Layer Lotion and Perfume Without Overdoing It. Here you will learn a few tricks about smelling great and making your scent last longer!

Our next recipe is a wine lotion recipe.  Like many of our customers, I too, love the wonderful aroma of red wine.  This homemade lotion recipe is scented with my favorite of Natures Garden’s wine scents, Shiraz Fragrance Oil.  This lotion contains many skin loving oils and butters like grape seed and jojoba.  So grab a glass of wine and get ready to prepare a couple bottles of wine scented lotion.

Wine Lotion Recipe Prepare Your Work Area

Before we begin, clean and sanitize your work area and utensils.  You will also need to do the same with the packaging supplies.  We will be using two clear 8 ounce Boston round bottle and two 24/410 white lotion pumps when we create this lotion recipe.

Wine Lotion Recipe Weigh Out Your Ingredients

Wine Lotion Recipe Weigh Out Your IngredientsFirst, in a pot, weigh out 425 grams of water.  You will need to heat the water to 180 degrees.  Hold it at this temperature for 20 minutes.  This will destroy any bacteria.

In a second pot, weigh out 48 grams grape seed oil, 24 grams silky emulsifying wax, 10 grams cocoa butter, 10 grams jojoba oil, and 6 grams vitamin e oil.  Then, melt these ingredients using a double boiler.  Make sure you stir the oil occasionally as they are melting.  While you are waiting, move to the next step.  We will come back to both of these pots when they are ready.

Wine Lotion Recipe Preparing the Other Ingredients

Wine Lotion Recipe Preparing the Other IngredientsIt is best to weigh the other ingredients out ahead of time.  This way you are prepared ahead of time.  This will allow you to move quickly as you are making the lotion.  Temperatures are extremely important to achieve a proper emulsion when creating lotion.  So, using a scale, weigh out the remaining ingredients.  You will need four small bowls as each of the following will go in a separate bowl.  First, weigh 8 grams of sodium lactate.  Then, in the second bowl, add 3 grams of resveratrol along with 12 vegetable glycerin.  Mix these two together well.  In the third bowl, prepare your fragrance oil.  Weigh out 12 grams of Shiraz Fragrance Oil.  In the last bowl, weigh out 10 grams of your optiphen preservative.  Set these aside, we will come back to them.

Wine Lotion Recipe Putting it all Together

Next, we will be combining our water with our oils.  Before we begin we want to be sure to point out a couple of things in regards to your temperatures.  At this point, your temperatures are very important.  You want both the oils and water to be around 140 degrees Fahrenheit.  If your ingredients are not at the proper temperature you may experience separation.  In addition, the temperature is important when adding your preservative.  You want to add your preservative around 120 degrees if you add your preservative at too cool of a temperature your mixture will separate from the finished lotion.  If your temperature is too hot it will burn the preservative off.
Wine Lotion Recipe Putting it all TogetherNow, we will begin combining our oils and water.  Once both the oils and water have come to the proper temperature, we will need to move quickly.  So, once your water has been heated, remove it from the heat.  You want to let both your oils and water temperatures to drop to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.  Then, add 8 grams of sodium lactate to your water.  Make sure you stir in the sodium lactate completely.  Now, add your oils to your water.  Then, use your stick blender to mix them.  Mix until you notice the mixture turn white in color as it emulsifies.  Again, remember to pay close attention to your temperatures.  You do not want the temperature to drop below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wine Lotion Recipe Adding the Other Ingredients

Wine Lotion Recipe Adding the Other IngredientsNext, let’s add our preservative.  Remember, this needs to be added below 140 degrees Fahrenheit, but at a temperature no cooler than 120 degrees.  When the mixture drops to around 120 degrees add the 10 grams of optiphen preservative.  Additionally, this is when the colorant should be added.  So, at this time add 7 drops of red soap colorant and 3 drops blue fd&c dye.  You will also add the 12 grams Shiraz Fragrance Oil you weighed out earlier.  Mix your ingredients together using your stick blender.  Now you will need the resveratrol extract powder mixture you prepared.  Earlier, we dispersed the resveratrol powder extract in vegetable glycerin so that it can be added to your lotion without clumping.  Finally, at this time, add the resveratrol mixture you prepared earlier.  Once again use your stick blender to evenly and fully mix all of the potion’s ingredients.  Once everything is mixed, allow the lotion to set up.  You will notice the lotion thicken more as it cools.  Once it has set up, you are ready to package it.

Wine Lotion Recipe Packaging the Lotion

Wine Lotion Recipe Packaging the LotionLastly, we will be placing our lotion into the 8 ounce lotion bottles.  I have found it easiest to do this using a zip lock bag.  So, place the lotion in a ziplock bag.  Then, cut the corner.  We will be using the bag sort of like you would a decorating bag.  Once you have cut the corner, you can place the opening over the opening of the bottle.  Squeeze the bag gently to add the lotion to the first bottle.  Then, fill the second bottle.  Finally, place a white lotion pump on each bottle.  Your wine scented lotion is now complete!
