Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Sanitize and Make Preparations

Before you start on this cold process soap recipe, you will want to make a few preparations. First, you will want to gather and wash any equipment you are going to need for this bath and body recipe. Also, you will want to gather any of the soap making supplies that are needed for the spin soap. Next, you are going to want to clean up a space for you to use as a work area. You will want to make sure you have enough space to work comfortably. This will make the soap making process easier and more fun!

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare a Bottle of Vinegar

Also, you will want to prepare a bottle of vinegar before making this homemade cold process soap. Since the vinegar will be used to deactivate any lye that may come into contact with your skin, this bottle of vinegar will be important for practicing cold process soap safety. Furthermore, you can use the vinegar to clean up your work station after making cp soap to make sure that there isn’t any active lye left behind that could be hazardous. So, you will want to fill the 8 ounce spray bottle with vinegar and set it nearby until it is needed.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Lye SolutionSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Lye Solution

First, you are going to create the lye solution for this cp soap recipe. You will want to prepare this homemade soap recipe in a well ventilated room to avoid breathing it in. Further, you will need to wear a face mask and protective clothing during the soap making process to protect yourself from fumes and potential splashing. You are going to measure out 107 grams of the lye for soap making and add it to 277 grams of the distilled water. You will need to be sure to stir as you add the lye to your water. After everything is mixed, you will need to place the container in a safe place to wait for your solution to cool to room temperature.

While you are waiting for you lye solution to cool, you can begin to prepare your soap making oils and butters. You will need to weigh out 145 grams Mango Butter, 145 grams Fractionated Coconut Oil, 72 grams Argan Oil, 145 grams Palm Oil, 36 grams Castor Oil, 72 grams Grapeseed Oil, and 109 grams Sweet Almond Oil. Then, add all of these cosmetic ingredients to a medium mixing bowl that is microwave safe. You will need to use short intervals in the microwave to melt these ingredients. After, you will set your bowl aside to wait for the soaping oils to cool to the right temperature.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Cosmetic ColorantsSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Cosmetic Colorants

While you are waiting for your lye solution and cosmetic oil mixtures to both cool down to room temperature, you can begin to prepare the four soap colorants that you will need for this bath and body recipe. So, you are going to need to get four separate mixing bowls that are about medium sized. In each of these medium mixing bowls you are going to add one of the colorant mixtures for the different potions of the soap batter.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the White Colorant

First, you are going to need one of the medium mixing bowls to hold the white colorant for this soap. In this bowl you will need to add 7 grams of the Titanium Dioxide. Additionally, you will want to mix in a small amount of soaping oils. You will want to mix these two cosmetic ingredients together well to get rid of any clumps. Once everything is mixed together, you can set this colorant aside for a later step.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Yellow/Orange Colorant

Next, you are going to another medium mixing bowl. This bowl is going to contain the yellow/orange colorant. So, you are going to need to add 6 grams of the Yelp Yellow FUN Soap Colorant, 2 grams of the Jailhouse Red FUN Soap Colorant, and 3 drops of the Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant. Then, you can set this bowl aside for the moment.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Red/Orange Colorant

Also, you will prepare the red/orange colorant in another medium mixing bowl. You will need to add 2 grams of the Jailhouse Red FUN Soap Colorant, 2 grams of the Neon Pink FUN Soap Colorant, and 3 drops of the Yelp Yellow FUN Soap Colorant. After, you can set this bowl aside for a later step.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Prepare the Red Colorant

Lastly, you are going to prepare the red colorant in a clean, medium mixing bowl. You will need to add 3 grams of the Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant and 4 grams of the Neon Red FUN Soap Colorant. Then, you can set this bowl aside for the moment.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Combing the Lye and Cosmetic OilsSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Combing the Lye and Cosmetic Oils

Once the lye solution and the cosmetic oils have reached room temperature, you are ready to combine them. So, you are going to add the lye solution to your cosmetic oils and use a stick blender to emulsify everything together.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Adding the Fragrance OilSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Adding the Fragrance Oil

Now that your cosmetic ingredients have been emulsified, you are ready to add the fragrance oil. So, you are going to weigh out 55 grams of the Star Fruit and Mango Fragrance Oil. Once this scented oil is added to your soap batter, you are going to need to use a stick blender to thoroughly incorporate the scent into your mixture.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Star Fruit and Mango Fragrance OilSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Star Fruit and Mango Fragrance Oil

This fun spin swirl soap recipe includes the scent of our Star Fruit and Mango Fragrance Oil. This fragrance oil is a blend of fresh star fruit and mango. This scent is rounded out with notes of ripened strawberry and juicy peach. So, your cold process soap will have a refreshing aroma of this fruity scent.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Dividing the Soap BatterSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Dividing the Soap Batter

Now you are going to need to divide the scented soap batter into four equal portions. Also, you are going to need to retrieve the four mixing bowls with your prepared colorants. You will need to use all of the soap batter and try to use about the same amount of soap in each of the four bowls. Then, mix one of the prepared soap colorants into each of the four soap batter mixtures and stick blend to incorporate the color.

Spin Swirl Soap Recipe: Filling the Soap MoldSpin Swirl Soap Recipe: Filling the Soap Mold

Next, you are going to be filling the soap mold with your portioned soap batter. So, you will need to retrieve the large rectangle tray mold. You will be filling up your wholesale soap mold by pouring only into only two of the corners. These corners will need to be diagonal from one another. Then, you will need to choose two of your colors to start with to pour into the corners. You will need to pour one into each of the corners at the same time. Then, switch the bowls between your hands and pour these colors at the same time. Next, you will grab the two remaining colors, pour one into each corner, switch hands, and pour again. You will need to repeat this process until the mold is filled.

Spinning Your CP SoapSpinning Your CP Soap

As soon as you have your soap mold filled, you are going to spin the soap to create the design for this cp soap recipe. So, you will need to gently transfer the soap mold from the table and onto the lazy Susan. Then, you can begin to slowly spin the lazy Susan in a single direction. This spinning will begin to move your soap batter and create wavy lines. You will want to continue to swirl the soap until you feel that your design has enough swirl. Once you are satisfied with the design of your swirl soap, you can stop spinning the lazy Susan.

Finishing Your Spin Swirl Soap

Now, your cold process soap is nearly ready to use! All you have left to do is allow your soap the time to set up and cure. After 24-43 hours you can remove the soap from the cosmetic mold. Now you can slice your soap along the lines that were created from the soap mold. Then, you will need to let your soap rest for 4-6 weeks before using. After this cure time, you can finally use your beautiful cold process soap!

Tiger Stripe Soap: Prepare the Orange Soap Colorant

In one small bowl you will want to prepare the orange soap colorant. This small bowl will contain 5 grams of the Neon Oxide FUN Soap Colorant. So, you can prepare the orange colorant for your tiger soap.

Tiger Stripe Soap: Prepare the Black Soap Colorant

In a second small bowl you will want to prepare the black colorant for your animal print soap. This bowl will contain 5 grams of the Black Oxide FUN Soap Colorant that you will use in a later step for this soap.

Tiger Stripe Soap: Emulsifying the Soap IngredientsTiger Stripe Soap: Emulsifying the Soap Ingredients

You are going to want to pour the lye solution into your mixing bowl of cosmetic oils. Then, you will need to use a stick blender to emulsify these lovely soap making ingredients together. Once your soap batter has just about reached the point of trace, you are ready to move on to the next step in the cp soap process.

Tiger Stripe Soap: Adding the Fragrance OilTiger Stripe Soap: Adding the Fragrance Oil

Now, you are ready to include the soap scent in your emulsified mixture. So, you will add 64 grams of the Jungle Love Fragrance Oil to your soap batter. After, be sure to use a stick blender to fully incorporate the scent. This will provide your soap with an aroma of tropical and citrus scents. This fragrance contains a combination of fresh squeezed oranges, pineapples, bananas, coconut, and fresh kiwi notes.

Tiger Stripe Soap: Separate Into Two PortionsTiger Stripe Soap: Separate Into Two Portions

Next, you will want to separate your soap batter into two equal portions. One of these portions will be used for each of the colors for this soap making recipe. So, you will need to grab another clean mixing bowl and add half of the soap to this bowl. After your homemade cp soap has been divided you are ready to prepare your two colors.

Of course, you are going to want to keep your wooden skewer towards the top of the soap. If you swirl too low into the mold, then you may ruin the stripes of your tiger soap. You will want to create a soap pattern that is a similar design to the swirled soap we are creating in the picture.

Tiger Stripe Soap: Finish Your CP Soap Recipe

Finally, your homemade soap with lye is done and nearly ready for you to use! Now you will just need to wait about 24 to 48 hours before you can remove the soap from the wholesale soap mold. After removing your soap from the mold, you will want to wait until your soap is set up enough to cut into individual bars. You will be able to cut sixteen individual bars. Now, you will just need to wait for your cold process soap to finish going through the curing process. This will take four to six weeks to be finished curing. Afterward, you will be able to use your finished soap!

Juniper Berry BenefitsJuniper Berry Benefits

There are many different ways to gain Juniper Berry benefits for your body. First, you can include these berries in your food to create some delicious and unique recipes. This may help provide your body with various nutrients and beneficial properties. Also, you could create bath and body recipes that integrate these properties to benefit the body. Plus, these Juniper Berries whole can be used to decorate various Natures Garden recipes. So, this herb is useful to both decorate your creations and provide beneficial properties for these recipes.

Juniper Berry Benefits: Growing ConditionsJuniper Berry Benefits: Growing Conditions

Juniper Berry plants are most common in the Northern Hemisphere and they come in a few different varieties. You can tell these varieties apart by their heights, as they are either one and a half feet tall, four feet tall, six feet tall, or twenty-five feet tall. So, these plants can vary from the sizes of small shrubs to large trees. Since they are similar to conifers, they have needles or scales that are useful for helping the plant survive droughts. But, this means that the Juniper plant can’t handle being over watered. If they have wet soil that doesn’t drain well, they will suffer. So, you should never need to water your plant unless there have been severe drought conditions. Although Junipers prefer acidic soil, they can grow in a variety of soil types. Also, they will prefer to be exposed to full sun.

Juniper Berry Benefits: Harvesting Your Juniper Berries

First, make sure that you do in fact have an edible variety of juniper before you begin your harvest. The most common edible variety of juniper is Juniperus communis, but there are many varieties out there that are poisonous or bitter tasting. After you are sure you have the correct tree, you will want to pick the soft berries that are a blue/black color. Make sure that you don’t pick unripe berries as they won’t dry properly. Then, you can dry your berries by allowing them to set inside at room temperature for approximately three weeks. Once the berries are dried you will need to remove any berries that are brown or have viable entrance holes. These berries will have bugs living inside them. Lastly, you can either use your berries immediately or store them in an airtight jar for up to a year.

Juniper Berry Benefits: Caution for Anyone that has Apple Trees

You may want to hold off on planting a juniper berry tree/shrub if you have an apple tree. There is a fungus that can infect your apple tree called cedar-apple rust. It will begin growing on the juniper trees or shrubs first. Then, the fungus can make its way to any of the apple trees nearby. So, you would be putting your apple trees at risk by planting juniper nearby. However, anyone without apple trees won’t have to worry about this disease transfer.

Juniper Berry Benefits: Industry Uses

You can find many different ways to use juniper berries in a variety of products. First, you can use this herb to spice up your meals or to flavor gin. Also, you can create a tonic or tea to benefit from some of the medicinal properties of juniper. Further, you can use this botanical herb to create wonderful bath and body recipes. Juniper Berry Benefits: Medicinal Uses for Juniper Berries

Today, there are many medicinal uses for juniper berries. Primarily, this herb continues to be used as a diuretic. These berries can be used to get your kidneys to work more efficiently, which will stimulate your urinary passages. While this can be useful for helping reduce renal insufficiency, weakness of the bladder, or weakness of the urethra, it is dangerous for a kidney infection. So, you should ask a doctor before using this herb if you have any urinary tract issues.

Plus, the antimicrobial and antifungal properties in this herb have been found to be useful against certain infections. For example, studies have shown that this herb can be used to fight the bacteria that cause illnesses like E. coli, pneumonia, gonorrhea, Staphylococcus aureus, and more! Further, this herb’s antiseptic properties are useful for treating scrapes and cuts to prevent infection. Also, this herb is a carminative agent that has been known to help move gas through the body. Further, it is thought to prevent more gas from being produced while it is in your system. So, this herbal property can be used to reduce indigestion, chest pain, and stomach aches. Furthermore, Juniper can be used to prevent stomach ulcers and get the stomach back on track. This is due to the herb promoting stomach bile secretion, which protects the inner lining of the stomach.

Also, this herb can be used to reduce symptoms of joint pain, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis. Juniper can help with these conditions as this herb improves blood circulation and helps remove toxins from the body. These toxins are flushed out using excess sweating, which will help clear your pores, too. Further, there are properties in this cosmetic herb that help to reduce swelling. Also, this herb is useful for reducing muscle cramps and spasms.

Juniper Berry Benefits: Food and BeveragesJuniper Berry Benefits: Food and Beverages

In areas of Northern Europe, like  Scandinavia, Germany, or some regions of France, Juniper is commonly used as a spice for cooking. It is most popular to use Juniper to spice up meaty dishes, like chicken or beef. Just make sure not to overcook the herb, as it can draw out an unpleasant, bitter flavor. Instead, you may want to try toasting them. However, Americans are more likely to have added juniper in their gin than their meals. In fact, gin was named after Juniper in the Dutch language. The taste of juniper is uniquely refreshing and tangy with notes of pine and citrus. Further, you can infuse your oils with the properties of dried Juniper Berries. So, there are many different ways that you can add some juniper berries to your products.

First, antibacterial and antiseptic properties have been found in Juniper. These properties can be useful for treating minor cuts and scrapes, as this herb will protect the body from infection. Also, the known astringent and detoxifying properties are useful for helping to control sebum production and balance oily skin. This is perfect for helping to prevent clogged pores or breakouts. Plus, these properties can be beneficial for improving skin tone and help to shrink your pore size. So, this is another way that Juniper can be used to help reduce the production of sebum. Not only is this property great for balancing the sebum production of oily skin, but it can be useful for preventing acne breakouts.

Plus, this herb is helpful for reducing blemishes, rashes, and eczema. Also, this herb will help bring more blood to the skin. This will help nourish skin cells and promote healthy growth. Also, the antioxidants in this herb can be used to fight oxidation damage, which can leave the skin looking aged. So, adding this herb to your skin care will help prevent signs of premature aging.

He loved to watch them from his windows as they were feasting on the berries. While Juniper attracts birds, it isn’t the only plant you can use to attract birds to your area. You can find a list of different plants you can use on Birdscaping: Creating Your Landscape to Attract Birds from the Ohio Landscape Association.

Common Cold Process Soap QuestionsCommon Cold Process Soap Questions

We at Natures Garden love to supply our customers with the best soap making ingredients and soap equipment that they need to succeed. But, you can’t utilize these tools if you don’t know how to. So, we want to answer some of the most common cold process soap questions that we get. This way we can help make your soap making experience as fun and exciting as possible!

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What is the Shelf Life of Lye?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What is the Shelf Life of Lye?

The shelf life of lye, sodium hydroxide, when properly stored is one year. After a year it is possible for your lye to work, but you should do a small batch to test whether the lye is still good. If it is actually expired, then it may not come to trace quickly or could separate after it is poured or set up. So, you will be able to notice an obvious difference if you make a small testing batch,

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: How Do I Make My Cold Process Soap Last Longer?

There are a few things that you can change to make your homemade soap last even longer. First, you can use additives, like sodium lactate or stearic acid, to harden the bar. Also, harder oils, like palm oil, can be helpful. Lastly, increasing the cure time, as water evaporates out, and decreasing the time in the shower will create a harder bar.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Is It Possible to Use Baby Oil as One of the Oils in a Soap Recipe?

No, you shouldn’t use baby mineral oil in your soap recipe for two reasons. First, it has already been scented. Second, the mineral oils won’t saponify.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: How Do Your Make Cold Process Soap?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: How Do Your Make Cold Process Soap?

If you ever wondered how to make soap from scratch, then this is the answer. Before you begin you will either need to formulate a recipe or choose a recipe already formulated, we suggest using our Beginners Cold Process Soap Recipe if this is your first time. We also recommend reading through our cold process soap making classes, especially the soap making safety class. While there is a little more detail and safety practices to follow, this is the most basic method for soaping. First, you create a lye solution by slowly adding lye to water. In a separate bowl, you will have your weighed and melted oils and butters. You will combine these ingredients at a similar temperature and mix until your batter trace, which is a thicker consistency.  The soap is then poured into a soap mold. Once it has setup, it is removed from the mold and allowed to cure.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Why Are My Citrus Scents So Light in my Cold Process Soap?

Citrus scent oils often have a low flash point, so they are more likely to burn off the fragrance during the saponification process. During this process, the soap will reach very hot temperatures, which are able to burn off certain scents. It is common for citrus scents to be affected by this issue. How can I prevent this? First, make sure that the maximum amount for fragrance has been added. Also, you can anchor the scented oil by using a scent with a that is heavier, like vanilla. Alternatively, some soapers use kaolin clay to enhance the scent, but it can make your soap too slick.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Are Fragrance Oils or Essential Oils Better for Cold Process Soap?

You can use both essential oils and fragrance oils to scent cp soap. However, fragrances tend to hold better and the scent lasts longer. This is because fragrance oils have top, middle, and base notes that will hold up better together. On the other side, some single note oils whether they be essential oils or fragrance oils, are more likely to burn off. So, you will want to test each oil in cold process soap.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Can Cold Process Soaps Be Molded into Different Shapes?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Can Cold Process Soaps Be Molded into Different Shapes?

Of course! There are many different styles of molds that you can use for soap making. Just don’t forget that this type of soap gets very hot. So, you need to make sure that you either use a silicone soap mold or a very thick plastic mold, like some of our Mold Market Soap Molds. However, plastic embed molds are not thick enough to hold your soap without melting and making a big mess. If you are unsure about a certain mold, it might be best to just save that shape for melt and pour soaps.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: When Can I Cut Cold Process Soap?

Before you can cut your finished soap loaf, you need to wait for a bit. While the exact time varies for each batch depending on size and ingredients, we suggest waiting for 24-48 hours before removing and cutting your nearly finished soaps. However, you can use a gloved hand to check the soap to determine whether the soap is too soft. On the other hand, you don’t want to wait too long or the soap may dry too much and crumble as you cut.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: How Long Does Soap have to Cure?

The exact amount of time your soaps take depends on your recipe that the amount of lye in it. However, most batches take about 2-6 weeks for the soaps to fully cure and be safe to use.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Does Natures Garden Offer Cold Process Soap Making Recipes?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Does Natures Garden Offer Cold Process Soap Making Recipes?

Yes, we have all kinds of cold process soap recipes under the Cold Process Soap Recipes parts of the in the Free Recipes and Classes section of the NG site. There are so many options that it can be difficult to choose!

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What Kind of Conditions Does CP Soap Need to Cure After it is Removed From Mold?

After your soap has been removed from the mold and sliced into bars, you will need to allow them to cure for a while. First, you will want to make sure that they are in a cool, dry environment. Also, you want to make sure that the bars a few inches apart. This will expose more of the bar to the air, which allows them to dry and set up properly.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What Will Make Cold Process Soaps Freeze or Set Up too Soon?

The oils that you use will come into play. Too much of some harder oils and butters can cause the soap to set up faster than others.  Additives can also cause your batter to accelerate.  However, often, this is an issue caused by the fragrance oil. Each fragrance performs differently in cp soap and the ones that cause too much acceleration can lead to seizing, or a sudden setting up, in the soap batter before it has made it to the mold. Further, there are some fragrance oils that will actually slow down the process and give you time to really work on a recipe.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Do You Have Any Tips for Working with Problem Fragrance Oils in Cold Process Soap?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Do You Have Any Tips for Working with Problem Fragrance Oils in Cold Process Soap?

It’s always a bummer when a scent you enjoy is a “problem fragrance oil”, but there are some things that will allow you to work with this fragrance oil anyway. First, we have the issue of acceleration. While we can’t fix the fragrance, we can cool our oils and lye water to room temperature before we start the saponification process. The cooler temperature takes longer to get to trace, which will help balance the acceleration from the fragrance oil. Also, you can formulate a soap recipe with oils that will slow trace, like sunflower oil. Although these two tricks can be used to slow an accelerated trace, it can’t stop a soap from seizing.

Second, we have the issue of separation. Sometimes a fragrance that separates from the mixture can be stick blended back in with enough effort. Also, it is possible for the scent to reabsorb during the curing process. You just need to keep an eye on these to determine whether the fragrance is worth using in cp soaps. Third, we have the issue of ricing, which is when little chunks form in your batch. While this can’t be prevented, it can be stick blended until the ricing is smoothed out. However, this only works in some cases.

Finally, some fragrance oils can cause your soap to discolor. Some scents can’t be prevented, but there are some cases when a soap additives can do the trick. If the description of your scent says it contains vanillin, it will discolor your soap to a shade of brown. However, you can use Vanilla White Color Stabilizer to help lessen any discoloration due to vanillin. Other kinds of discoloration will just have to be included into the soap design.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What is the Best Way to Clean Up Cold Process Soap?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What is the Best Way to Clean Up Cold Process Soap?

After you pour your batch into the soap mold, you may realize that you have a mess on your hands. Whether you spilled a few drops, made a complete mess, or only have the bowls to wash out, you are going to need to know how to safely clean up your lye mixtures. Before you get started, it is extremely important to have something on hand to neutralize the soap batter. So, you will need vinegar, which we prefer to have in a spray bottle to make it easy to apply in case of skin contact. After all the batter on the counter and soap equipment has been neutralized, you can begin cleaning with soapy water, we use dawn dish soap, to clean everything up again.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Is it Okay to Use My Soaping Bowls and Utensils for Cooking After Using it for CP Soapmaking If I Prewash It and Then Run It Through the Dishwasher?

No, it is very unsafe to use your soap making equipment in the kitchen. After you’ve used a bowl, mold, or other utensil for soaping you should never use it for anything other than soapmaking. Lye is very reactive and has the potential to do some serious harm after ingestion. So, it is a horrible idea to put this soaping equipment in contact with food or cooking utensils.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What Would Cause a Batch of Soap to Erupt While in the Soap Mold?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: What Would Cause a Batch of Soap to Erupt While in the Soap Mold?

Natural sugars in soaping ingredients can lead to an eruption, as  the soap gets hotter than it typically does. CP soap can erupt due to improperly  adding things like beer, wine, or milk. First, freezing these ingredients before adding them is helpful. If you are using beer, then make sure that you release all of the carbonation before including it in soap. Also, you will want to boil wine before adding it to your soap.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Can I Use Cup Measurements for Soap Making?

For soap making, we would recommend using weighted measurements . Using a scale is much more accurate and will ensure that you have a quality batch of soap. Otherwise, you may accidentally do something to mess up your soaps. For example, you could add to little oils and create a lye heavy batch.

Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Can You Make Good Quality Soap Using the Cold Process Soap Method Without Palm Oil?Common Cold Process Soap Questions: Can You Make Good Quality Soap Using the Cold Process Soap Method Without Palm Oil?

Absolutely. One of the best parts about making cp soap is that you can include whatever oils and butters you want. You can use SoapCalc to combine your favorite soaping ingredients in a perfect batch of soap! If you would rather follow a recipe that we have formulated, Natures Garden has a few recipes under Free Recipes and Classes that are made without palm oil. For example, there is  our Calendula Sunshine Cold Process Soap Recipe and our Argan Soap Recipe.

Further, if you are a looking to become a soap maker, we’d like to share the advantages of making your own soap. Depending on what you are looking for in a soap, you may find different aspects of homemade soap appealing. Those that have a difficult time finding soaps that don’t irritate their skin will rejoice after using this soap. People that enjoy crafting and would like to make soaps that are more fun and creative than the typical bar will enjoy this method of soaping. Not only can you combine any scent with any color, but you can create crazy fun designs that are not not often found in soaps. Regardless of what you are looking for in a soap, I’m sure you will be able to find something special in cold process soap!

Cold Process Soap Benefits Main Reason to Soap At Home

The biggest reason you should want to create your own soaps from scratch is that they are better than store bought. It all boils down to quality and making your own soaps is the best way to ensure a quality product with total control of the ingredients. We will discuss exactly what we have found to convince us that homemade soaps are better for the skin.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Better for Skin Than Commercial SoapCold Process Soap Benefits Better for Skin Than Commercial Soap

When you can simply go out and buy a bar of soap, there are some benefits from making your own soap. Though both bars will get you clean, many store bought soaps aren’t as nice for your skin. Cold process soaps can be made with skin nourishing oils, butters, and herbs that really work well for your skin.

On the other hand, commercial bar soaps can contain ingedients that leave your skin dry. Further, store bought soap could have some of the natural moisturizing elements removed. For example, the glycerin in store bought soap, which is created during the saponification process, could be removed in these bars. Thus, leaving you with a bar that really dries out your hands. So, creating your own soap will leave you with a creamy lather that is softening and provides amazing moisture for your skin.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Get Ready For Softer Hands

Since you will have a bar of soap that is more moisturizing than those soaps at stores due to the glycerin content remaining, you will have softer, more moisturized hands! So, say farewell to your lotions and creams because you may not need them as much as you used to need them. These soaps will care for your skin and make sure that they don’t dry out your hands. While your soap will still clean hands effectively, it won’t dry out your skin. Also, you won’t need to buy as much lotion due to your soap extra moisturizing power! So, this is the best soap recipe to create for hands that will help your skin hydrate and heal.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Freedom to Control All Ingredients

When you make your soap at home you have all the control. You can create any kind of soap that your skin could possibly need. You can easily account for sensitivities, allergies, and your skin type. No need to find a specialty bar of soap at the store, you can simply leave out or swap ingredients to create your perfect bar of soap.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Crafting the Perfect Bar of SoapCold Process Soap Benefits Crafting the Perfect Bar of Soap

Since you are going to control exactly what is in your soap bars, you have the power to create a soap that cares for your skin exactly right. You know your skin best and can learn about the properties of different oils to create the perfect soap! Whether you have oily skin, sensitive skin, or dry skin it is within your ability to make kinds of soap, as well as many others, to formulate the bar that will fit your skin type perfectly. Changing the types and amounts of oils in your recipe will impact the bar’s appearance and how it treats you.

An easy way to create the exact soap recipe that you need is to enter in different oils into a soap calculator. This program will tell you exactly what kind of bar your recipe will create. It does help to know a bit about the oils. You can learn quite a bit about soaping oils through our Soaping Oil Properties class.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Soaps that Care For Your Skin

Further, you can choose from a wider variety of soaps when you have control of your ingredients. Stores don’t often have a wide selection of soaps. Often, there are different brands of the same old, generic kind of soap. Additionally, those that do find the rare, more natural bar of soap are likely to find it to be too expensive. So, you are more likely to be stuck with very little choice regarding your soap. However, creating your own soap from home will open the door to so many possibilities. You can literally make any kind of soaping recipe to find the exact recipe you enjoy best. No more waiting and hoping in the cosmetics aisle, it’s time for you to get more and better choices regarding you skin care!

Cold Process Soap Benefits Potential to Create All Natural SoapCold Process Soap Benefits Potential to Create All Natural Soap

Since you can control all of your ingredients, you have the option to create soap bars that are fully natural. For those that prefer to live on the more natural side, you can create soap without anything synthetic at all. You can include some herbs and spices to naturally enhance your soap with some nice properties. For example, you can add Chamomile Flowers to your soap for its relaxing and skin softening properties. There are so many herbs that provide different kinds of benefits that are explained for each one on the Natures Garden website.

Further, you can use powdered herbs to naturally color your soap, such as Beet Root PowderSpirulina Powder, or Cocoa Powder Organic. Additionally, an additive like Activated Charcoal has both deep pore cleansing properties and the ability to color your soap! You won’t have to turn to unnatural colorants or additives if you don’t want to, because there are plenty of options. All the decisions on ingredients are up to you!

Cold Process Soap Benefits Can Make Sensitive Soaps

As I mentioned before, you are able to create bars of soap that are perfect for sensitive skin. So, those that have had a difficult time with typical bars of soap may have more luck creating their own bars of soap. There is no fear of the recipe being changed all of a sudden to add an ingredient you are avoiding and no worries about finding the exact right product, because you control it all. If you have sensitivities to certain colorants, fragrance oils, or other ingredients, then just leave them out of your soap batch and enjoy the freedom!

First, there are many substitutes for colorants that have been mentioned and you can even leave the soap batch uncolored. Also, you can either create an unscented bar of soap or add one of our all natural essential oils. This option can be easier for sensitive skin and allows you to still scent your bar. Lastly, you don’t have to worry about unnatural ingedients in a natural soap bar! You can make everything homemade from natural ingredients to create a sensitive bar that will be gentle on your skin.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Creating Soaps With PurposeCold Process Soap Benefits Creating Soaps With Purpose

Plus, you can create soaps with a specific function. Instead of looking for a product that will fit the needs of a certain situation, why not create exactly what you need? We have a few recipes that were made with a specific activity in mind. So, all of the ingredients were researched to ensure that they would work properly for their intended use. For example, the Cold Process Shaving Soap Recipe was specifically formulated with the intention of creating a rich lather for shaving. So, every ingredient has a purpose and they work together to create the desired effect, which you can see on our blog for this recipe.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Total Creative Freedom

Or course, with full control over the ingredients comes full creative power. Since you are making your soaps from scratch you can make any kind of shapes or designs that you’d like. Some designs and techniques take more skill to master, but even the soaps you use to practice these techniques can be used. So, you won’t lose too much from working on your soap making abilities.

Cold Process Soap Benefits Ability to Make Creative SoapsCold Process Soap Benefits Ability to Make Creative Soaps

Another benefit of creating cold process soap is that it is a form of art. There are many different ways to change the appearance of you cp soap whether you are using swirls, layers, or a modeling soap recipe. You can get in touch with your inner artist and create something beautiful. While it can take time to get really good at making pretty soap,  eventually you will be able to make any kind of soap you’d like!

First, you can create swirled soaps like the Lavender Cold Process Soap Recipe or the Peeps Cold Process Soap Recipe. While swirled soaps are lots of fun, you can create more simple recipes that are just as cute. For example, the Peppered Poppy Seed Cold Process Soap Recipe is a solid color with poppy seeds that was placed in a flower shaped mold. While this recipe looks more fun than a typical bar, it is very simple to create differently shaped soaps. Further, we have even more cold process soap recipes that you could look through on our webpage.

With cold process soap making, you can create soaps to match your home or make them your favorite color. But, there is one twist that makes homemade soap making better than store bought soaps.

While it’s unlikely that you would would want this exact soap, you have to admit it would be pretty hard to find this exact soap in stores. This is just a single example of all the fun combinations you can get into. All you have to do is pair a favorite scent with a fun recipe or design! First, you are going to create the melt and pout peep bunny soaps. These will be used to top the cold process soap that you will be making some later steps. So, before you begin the portion of the recipe that deals with the cold process soap you will be creating eight bunny peeps with melt and pour soap. When the time comes, you can choose to have two of each color or have a different color combination off peep bunny soaps. But, we will provide the amounts needed to achieve the correct colors. So, lets start with the melt and pour.

Peeps Cold Process Soap Recipe Melting the Soap

Now, you are going to melt the soap needed to create the bunny peep soaps. Since each peep will require 40 grams of melt and pour soap and we are creating two at a time, we will begin by melting 80 grams of the Oatmeal Melt and Pour Soap. Melt this in 30 second increments. After you color this portion of your soap, you will melt three additional portions in their own bowls to be colored.
