How Do You Make Scented Lotion?: Emulsifiers

One of the most important parts of making lotion is the emulsifier. This is the ingredient that keeps everything together because the oils and water that are being mixed would separate otherwise. Since oils are non-polar, they only want to mix with other non-polar substances. But, we want these non-polar oils to mix with polar water. Similarly, polar water only wants to mix with other polar things. So, we need an ingredient that has both polar and non-polar parts, which is what we call an emulsifier! As you can see this single ingredient is quite crucial.

Or, your batch may just light lotion that doesn’t require a thickener like stearic acid or sodium lactate. It is all dependent upon the type of lotion you are creating.

How Do You Make Scented Lotion?: Stearic AcidHow Do You Make Scented Lotion?: Stearic Acid

cocoa butter Cocoa Butter

For all you crafters out there, do you like to use cocoa butter in your products? Well guess what? We offer cocoa butter here at Nature’s Garden! Awesome right? We offer natural cocoa butter, (not deodorized so that it still smells faintly of chocolate) and we also have deodorized cocoa butter. But hold on, it gets even better! We also offer Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Soap for all of you soap makers out there!

Cocoa butter is considered a luxury butter that is actually a saturated, very hard fat. It can be used be in very many products. The obvious, chocolate, is just pure delicious. I couldn’t help but mention it, what girl doesn’t love chocolate! Now that I got my chocolate thoughts out, it can also be used in very many of our products here at Nature’s Garden. Cocoa butter can be used in bath and body products such as lip balms, lotions, soaps, scrubs, massage bars, and lip gloss.

There are many benefits to your skin when using cocoa butter in your bath and body products. Cocoa butter is very high in antioxidants which helps fight signs of aging and many skin stressers. Come on ladies, who doesn’t want to look younger? It helps fight signs of aging, how awesome is that? Many people also use cocoa butter to help reduce their stretch marks, however there are no guarantees that it actually helps. Cocoa butter also helps to keep your skin hydrated and some people also use to help with skin irritations like dermatitis and eczema. See why so many bath and body products contain cocoa butter? It’s just amazing!

Our cocoa butter at Nature’s Garden is consisted of many essential fatty acids: palmitic (28%), stearic (33%), linoleic (3%) and oleic (35%). For all the soap makers, when using cocoa butter in your products, make sure to use the right amount. If too much is used, it can result in a very hard and dry soap. Use it in conjunction with unsaturated oils like castor oil or olive oil or with sticky ingredients like lanolin or shea butter. The easiest way to get to our cocoa butter on our website, is to type “cocoa butter” into our search bar at the top of our site. It will take you right to a page titled “Search Results for “Cocoa Butter.”” That page shows all of the cocoa butter products we offer. You can choose from our Golden Natural Cocoa Butter or our Deoderized Cocoa Butter. Our cocoa butter melt and pour is also available on that page as well.

Cocoa butter is awesome to use in your bath and body products! It is a fat actually taken from cocoa beans! Come on ladies, if you don’t already use it, I’m sure you’re dying to now! It actually helps signs of aging and I know you just can’t get the thought of that out of your head! This is a great product to try in your next projects, and watch out for more Enlightened by Layla! Natures Garden StoreNatures Garden Store

Marsha and the staff at Natures Garden have been feverously working away at getting the store ready and in tip top shape.

Earlier this year, we started the intense planning and implementing of a store for our wonderful customers to come into and shop.  This was a feat that was easier said than done.  Through months of planning and strategizing, we were able to create a beautiful store on paper that believe it or not contained every item that Natures Garden currently carries.

Then came the week when all of storage and shelving units were put together.  This also included an electrician, a painter, and a small construction crew.  When they were finished, for the first time we were able to see the Natures Garden store becoming a reality.

Next, it was time to stock shelves.  This is where we are now.   Through immense hard work and dedication, the staff at Natures Garden has been steadily plugging away at stocking, pricing, and creating displays for the store.  And, now after all of this time, we are finally beginning to see light at the end of the store tunnel.

Although the store is still a work in progress so to say, we are getting very close.

Sure, all of Natures Garden products are out and available for purchase; but we are still finalizing some aspects to really knock it out of the park!

The Natures Garden store is currently open and you all are more than welcome to come in and visit.  We still have the fragrance sniffing wall (although it is more of a Fragrance Land), as well as 16 oz, 8 oz, 4 oz, and 1 oz fragrance bottles available to purchase.  All of our soap bases, waxes, butters, oils, molds, and herbs are also out and ready for purchase as well.  We even have our vast array of kits, colorants, flavorings, and essential oils out too and they are all ready for their new crafting home.

One thing is for sure, if you come visit the Natures Garden store, you will not be disappointed.  Just please bear with us as we strive for perfection.

2. Why did you decide to go into business? What was your motivation? How long have you been in business?  We went into business as a result of our own family’s skin issues. We noticed that in commercially produced products the ingredients are often times harmful and contain small amounts of ingredients which are beneficial to your skin. Through intense research we learned that the ingredients such as Shea Butter, Olive Oil and Cocoa Butter are essential to soothing the increasing number of individuals with eczema, psoriasis and many other skin aliments.
