Powerful Fragrance Oils for Wax MeltsPowerful Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts

When it comes to scenting any room in your house, you are always looking for a strong scent that is gonna stay around for a good while. There are many powerful fragrance oils for your wax melts at Nature’s Garden that you can use in your wax tart recipes that will keep your room smelling wonderful for a long time. However, there are ways to ensure that you have a stronger scent throw in your melter.  For example, you may want to choose a heavier fragrance oil. What ever your use, we will talk about some of our client’s favorite scents for wax melts.  We will also talk about choosing more complex fragrance oils.

Why Choose Heavier Fragrance Oils for your Wax Melts?

Are you looking for a strong aroma in your home that you will enjoy? Using a strong fragrance oil in your wax melts will ensure that your home is completely filled with good scents. A fragrance oil will smell differently in the bottle than it will in your finished wax melts. The reasoning behind this is because in the bottle all you smell are the top notes. Then, when the fragrance is mixed into the wax melts, you will smell the incorporation of all three notes. Choosing heavier fragrance oils will ensure that you are able to distinguish these notes more clearly in your final product. Also, depending on the size of the room that your wax melts are melted in, you may need stronger fragrances to encompass the whole room.

What Makes These Fragrances Heavier?

There are several factors that play into making a fragrance oil more strong than another. All of the fragrance oils sold at Nature’s Garden are already 100% concentrated. This means that our fragrance oils aren’t diluted, and you will get the full aroma of the fragrance. This is one of the factors that plays into a strong fragrance oil.

Next to the concentration of the fragrance, the evaporation time is another factor that plays into its strength. More complex fragrances, meaning fragrance oils that have top, middle, and base notes, tend to linger longer. The first impression you get of a fragrance oil is the scent of the top note. After the top note evaporates, you get the aroma of the middle notes. Finally, the base notes in the scent round it out, anchoring the scent and allowing it to linger longer. The stronger fragrance and more complex the notes, the longer it will typically linger.

Now, let’s talk about single notes scents. While some single note scents will still be strong and work well in a burner, often they tend to fade away a bit sooner than more complex scents. A single note scent doesn’t have base notes to anchor it.  So, while it might still be strong and wonderful, it is more likely it won’t have as much longevity when compared side by side to a more complex fragrance oil.

Other ways to Use Strong Fragrance Oils

Besides using these fragrance oils for standard wax melts or candle making, there are a lot of different applications for them. Another application for a strong fragrance oil is in our perfume and body spray recipes using a body safe fragrance oil. If you like to make a bold impression with your aroma, then this application is perfect for you to use. Nature’s Gardens’ recipes for different body spray and perfume recipes as well. Another use for our strong fragrance oils is with our room scenting recipes. Some examples of our room scenting recipes include potpourri recipes, scoopable wax recipes, aroma beads, and many more. One of the interesting correlations that I came across in this article was that the scent of apples can be used to mitigate the effects of a migraine. There was a study done that shows that the scent of a crisp apple can reduce the effects of a headache and shorten the length of a migraine episode. So, next time you have a headache, cut open a fresh apple, take in the scents, and see how well it helps you. Another interesting one is that fresh cut grass can make you more joyful.

Fall-FragrancesFall Fragrances for Candlemaking

It’s Autumn– time to decorate your home in warm, earthy tones, but no home is completely decorated without the soft glow of candlelight and a house-warming scent. (Save the unscented candles for your jack-o-lanterns outside and be sure to brush up on your candle safety!) We’ve got lots of fun festive fall fragrances at Nature’s Garden, but some were created specifically with creating scented candles in mind– these oils are not body safe. They still smell amazing- we just don’t recommend using them in any bath and/or body products. Here are three exceptional autumn aromas you can use to make delightful decorative candles, classic candle wax tarts, or relaxing, robust room scents!

Harvest Type Fragrance Harvest Type Fragrance Oil

A spicy blend of cinnamon bark and clove bud on a dry down of musk. A simple yet sophisticated seasonal scent. Maximum recommended usage in vegetable and paraffin waxes: 10%. Not gel wax compatible. Our coloring suggestions are 4 drops orange plus 1 drop brown liquid candle dye or shred a small amount of orange and brown color block per 4 pounds of wax. Maximum recommended usage in room scenting applications is 50%.

Mulled Cider FragranceMulled Cider Fragrance Oil

Strong base notes of ripened apples and oakmoss with a complex blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, orange zests, lemon peel, and a touch of tart lychee berries and coumarin. Maximum usage in vegetable and paraffin waxes: 10%. Not gel wax compatible. Our coloring suggestions are to use 6 drops red plus 2 drops brown liquid candle dye or shred a small amount of red and brown color block per 4 pounds of wax. Maximum usage in room scents: 50%.

Pumpkin Pie Spice FragrancePumpkin Pie Spice Fragrance Oil

The aroma of sweet cream pumpkin, complimented with nuances of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and ginger; rounded out with buttery vanilla notes. Maximum usage percentage in vegetable and paraffin waxes: 10%. Not gel wax compatible. Coloring suggestions: 4 drops orange liquid candle dye or shred a small amount of orange color block per 4 pounds of wax. Maximum usage percentage in room scenting applications: 19.7%.

We’ve got some cute fall-themed molds that you could use to make candle potpourri tarts: pumpkins (of course), small leaves, oak leaves and acorns, and for Halloween: the BOO mold!

For room scenting applications: try aroma beads or a reed stick diffuser kit.

You could also try dipping colorful fall leaves in scented wax to preserve them and use as decoration– just be sure to set them in a glass or metal dish because fragrance oil may have an adverse reaction with the surfaces of your furniture.

If you’re absolutely aching to make pumpkin-pie-spice-scented bath and body products, try our Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend Powder— it’s safe for use in bath and body products. I even used it as an ingredient in my first ever sugar scrub; I can attest to its amazing aroma. Need that vanilla kick? Try adding some Vanilla Powder or Natural Vanilla Infusion. (I used the vanilla oil in my sugar scrub recipe- smells great!) Now what about the pumpkin part? Try adding pumpkin puree! (Everything mentioned in this paragraph is body safe- but don’t put any of it in your candles!)

For body safe scents similar to Mulled Cider- check out our Apple Aromas.

Poison Pie Fragrance OilPoison Pie Fragrance Spotlight

Have you ever wanted to eat something delicious even though you know it’s bad for you? Well, maybe just one more piece of pie… This mouth-watering aroma will definitely have you coming back for more. If you’re a fan of apple and blueberry pies, this deadly scent already has you in its sights. The name of this fragrance is not to be confused with the common nickname of the moderately poisonous Hebeloma crustuliniforme mushroom. A friendly reminder to not eat those mushrooms and not consume fragrance oil. You can, however, use this delicious scent to make candles, room scents, and bath & body products. (Don’t eat those, either!)

What Does Poison Pie Fragrance Oil Smell Like?

This fragrance is a killer fragrance to say the least!  The aroma of freshly picked blueberries, fresh cut granny smith apples, smothered in butter, cream, and cinnamon, with a background of fresh baked crust.  This fragrance is to die for!  An NG Original Fragrance!

How Do Our Customers Use Poison Pie Fragrance Oil?

Candles! This appetizing aroma performs perfectly in joy wax and wow wax and is nice and strong in soy wax. It is not gel wax compatible. The maximum recommended usage percentage for this tempting scent in vegetable waxes and paraffin wax is 10%. Our coloring suggestions for candles are to use 6 drops blue plus 2 drops black liquid candle dye per 4 pounds of wax. Never use crayons to color candles– this will clog the wick!

Room scents! This sumptuous scent comes across nice and strong in aroma beads and its maximum recommended usage percentage in incense and potpourri is 50%. (Try a reed stick diffuser kit for an easy way for room scenting!)

Soaps! The maximum recommended usage percentage for this freshly baked fragrance in bath oils, bath gels, and soaps is 1%. Our cold process soap testing found that this fragrance caused no ricing, and no separation, but it did cause some slight acceleration. To slow the speed at which your CP soap batter reaches trace, we recommend soaping this scent at room temperature. Cured bars showed no discoloration and had light scent retention. Our coloring suggestions for bath and body products are to use blue and black soap colorants in the amount that satisfies you. This is where I’d normally mention natural soap colorant, but unfortunately, natural blue colors are difficult to find. However, if you’d like to use a natural soap color for your black coloring- try activated charcoal powder. It also has the added benefits of being a detoxifying agent for your skin and a natural odor absorber. Never color your bath and body products with candle colorants or they will end up coloring you!

Body products (outside of the bath)! This appealing aura performed perfectly in perfumes and its maximum recommended usage percentage in lotions and body sprays is 0.5%.

Cleaning products! The maximum recommended usage percentage for this alluring aroma in cleaning products is 1%.

Check out our unscented bases for an easy way to create the array of products listed above! Just remember not to exceed maximum recommended usage percentages!

Streusel is that delicious crumbly topping you find on the top of pastries. It’s made of flour, butter, and sugar, and modern recipes include spices and chopped nuts. What a tasty treat if you add some cinnamon and hazelnuts. Streusel means “something scattered or sprinkled.” It often sits atop pastries such as apple crisp. Pictured here is another delicious treat- apple strudel– a layered pastry with a sweet filling.
