Amish Friendship Bread Recipe

When making this bread, do not use metal utensils or containers.

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
3 cups white sugar, divided
3 cups milk

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes. In a 2 quart container glass, plastic or ceramic container, combine 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle. Leave loosely covered at room temperature.
  2. On days 2 thru 4; stir starter with a spoon. Day 5; stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Days 6 thru 9; stir only.
  3. Day 10; stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Remove 1 cup to make your first bread, give 2 cups to friends along with this recipe, and your favorite Amish Bread recipe. Store the remaining 1 cup starter in a container in the refrigerator, or begin the 10 day process over again (beginning with step 2).

New favorite!

I LOVE this so much! I got it to make gifts for my mom after my grandma died, (I got coffee and amish friendship bread bc those are two things she loves) and oh my god I was blown away, this is my new favorite scent! Such a strong cold throw in GB 464 and Melt & Tart wax. Hot throw is so far so good, but I cant wait to try it once my cure period is up! I wouldnt say this is an exact spot-on fragrance of amish friendship bread.. but whatever it is.. i dig it. I think the strawberries is definitely noticeable and I actually used pink to color them the first time around.

SMELLS JUST LIKE AN AMISH BAKERY

5 Amish Friendship Bread Fragrance Oil

Reviewer: from Northern Illinois

WOW! I wasn't sure what to expect, so I only ordered this fragrance oil as a 1oz. sample. In smelling this in the bottle, it has a strong {but pleasant} almond/berry fragrance. If you have ever made Amish “friendship bread” with raisins, this is what the batter smells like....only with almond extract added. I wasn’t picking up much “bread” in this fragrance oil right out of the bottle. {but that was okay with me, I personally loved this fragrance} So to test this, I decided to use the entire 1oz. bottle to make one of our 16oz. container candles using NG 100% Soy Wax. As a "candle", I can definitely smell the underlying hint of “bread”. I did scoop some out of the container to test it in my electric candle warmers as well and now I love this fragrance even more. I had planned on purchasing more and experimenting with this fragrance oil by adding “Whole Wheat Bread” fragrance oil, using only small amounts at a time. But this tested so well that I am not so sure I am going to do that now....lol. My daughter loved the smell of this candle, so she took it to work with her to get everyone’s opinion about this candle fragrance. [she oftens takes our test products to work with her] In just two days, we now have 38 orders from her co-workers alone. My daughter has also informed me that I am not getting this candle back….lol. I have a feeling that this will be a huge seller. I think I am going to call this fragrance, “Amish Bakery” because if you have ever visited an actual Amish bakery, THIS is exactly what it smells like when you first walk in the door. I am so in love with this fragrance! Thank you Nature’s Garden.

{Note: I may experiment by adding a little Whole Wheat Bread fragrance oil at a later time, but for now, I think that we are going to leave it “as is”. If I do experiment with this, I will be sure to come back and update my review.}

too much

3 Amish Friendship Bread Fragrance Oil

Reviewer: from Kalispell, MT US

I had high hopes for this scent, after reading reviews. But, I found it to be way too sweet. The strawberry smell, was too much, and was the first time I got a headache after pouring candles. The smell lingered in the house all night, almost making me sick. I sold the candle, and have not poured it again, nor did I burn the candle, so I can not give an opinion on the smell during a burn, but I did not like it at all while making candles.

We were looking for something for a festival in amish country and this was one we chose. It ended up being a fall favorite for our customers and will definitely be in our fall line this year also! Very strong throw in soy wax, can definitely smell the almond!

Nice bakery scent.I think this will do well in the fall season.I agree that the bread part is a little light but the throw is strong in soy, even better in palm wax.

It's a Keeper

5 Amish Friendship Bread Fragrance Oil

Reviewer: from Toledo, OH US

When I smelled it right out of the bottle I was a little disappointed smelled a lot of fruit and not much bread aroma, I used it in a parasoy blend for tarts and it was a big hit with the customers. I did use 1.5 ounces to a pound of wax and it throws real nice hot & cold. Will review again when I try it in a Soy125.

1 of my favorites!

Reviewer: from Otway, OH US

I wasn't sure about this scent...just smelling it from the bottle but it has turned out to be one of my favorites! I used it to make room spray and it is awesome! It kinda reminds me of an amaretto scent. It is a very good scent for a primitive lover!

Good Fragrance

A good smelling fragrance, not a very stong one though. Once my bottle runs out I probably won't order this one again. It smells good, I don't think it smells like Amish Friendship bread at all ...
