Scale
Knife
9 x 13 cake pan
Wax paper
Pot (for double boiler)
Apothecary Jars
Cutting board
Sharp pencil
Step 1: Melt 190 grams of beeswax using the
double boiler method. Set the
temperature of your stove top between medium and low heat. Stir this occasionally as it melts.
Step
2: Once the beeswax is liquid, add 2 drops of Spectrum Red
Candle Dye and stir. Place your pouring
pot back into the heat source for now.
Step
3: Next, lay out your cake pan. Measure out at least 9 inches in length. Then, place your knife across the pan at the
9 inch mark. Now, lay the wax paper over
the cake pan and knife. Gently, tuck the
corners of the wax paper down.
Step
4: Weigh out 19 grams of Hot Pink
Pomegranate Fragrance Oil. Remove your
beeswax from the heat source. Add the
fragrance oil and stir.
Step
5: Next, slowly pour the beeswax over the flat portion of the wax
paper. Allow this to fully set up at
room temperature.
Step
6: Once the beeswax has set up, gently remove it from the
cake pan. Starting in one corner,
carefully peel away the wax paper. Set
the beeswax onto your cutting board. Clean up any
jagged edges using your knife.
Step
7: Now, weigh out and melt 1100 grams of soy wax. Do this using the double boiler method. Stir occasionally.
Step
8: Using the tip of a pencil, trace the zebra pattern into
the beeswax. This will be various sized
long and irregular lines (almost like tree branches). Then, using your knife, cut these lines
out.
Step
9: Carefully place the individual zebra lines against the
inside wall of your candle jar. It is
best to start at the bottom of your jar and work in an angular direction. Apply slight and even pressure until the
lines stick. Repeat this step until you
are happy with your zebra design. Then,
create your design in your second jar.
Step
10: Next, secure your centered wicks to the bottom of your
jars. Set aside. For this recipe, we used 2- cd10 wicks per jar.
Step 11: When your soy wax is melted, remove it from the heat
source. Then, add 110 grams of fragrance oil. Stir again.
Step
12: When the soy wax reaches 115 degrees Fahrenheit, pour
the wax into your candle jars.
Straighten your wicks, and allow the candles to fully set up.
Your Zebra candles are now ready. Simply
trim your wick, light, and enjoy!
