Other Ingredients & Equipment
You'll Need:
4 Cavity Mini Ducks Soap &
Candle Mold (flexiblemolds.com)
Stirring Spoon
Stove
Scale
Knife
Toothpicks
Pot (for double boiler)
Apothecary Jars
Ziploc bag
Step 1: Prepare the Sand Layer: Weigh out 100 grams of Pillar of Bliss Wax. Place all of the wax into a Ziploc bag. Next, to the wax add 8 grams of Crystal Blue Water. Then, using one toothpick, place the tip into the Yellow Spectrum Candle Dye. Once there is a little bit of candle dye on the tip, carefully stick the toothpick tip into the pillar of bliss wax. Move it around in the wax to transfer the dye. Next, repeat the same action with the brown candle dye. When finished throw the toothpicks away.
Step 2:
Once both candle dye
colors are in the Ziploc bag, seal the bag.
Now, begin to shake the bag vigorously.
You will notice as you shake the bag that they dye colors will disperse
among the wax.
Step
3: Next, equally divide the sand among the two candle jars. You will want the sand to be about 1/2" high.
Step 4: Prepare
the Pond: Using the double
boiler method, weigh out and melt approximately 1150 grams of gel wax. As the gel wax melts, it will be very similar to a thick
syrup. Monitor and stir occasionally as
this is happening.
Step 5: Once the gel wax reaches this state, add 1 drop of Blue
Spectrum Liquid Dye. Stir well to
incorporate.
Step 6: Remove the wax from heat. Next, add 92 grams of Crystal Blue Water
Fragrance Oil. Once again, stir. Allow to cool slightly.
Step 7: Next, pour 1/2" of the cooled gel wax over the sand. Do this slowly so as not to disturb the sand. Once you notice that the gel wax has hardened back to a gel like state, carefully place the bottom tabs of (2) 51-32-18z wicks equally spaced apart into your jar. Make sure the wicks are secured and centered in both jars.
Step
8: Prepare the Ducks: Again, using the double boiler method weigh out and melt 35
grams of pillar of bliss wax. When the
wax is melted, add 1 drop Yellow Spectrum Candle Dye and stir. Next, add 3 grams of Crystal Blue Water
Fragrance Oil. Stir again. Once the fragrance has been stirred in,
slowly pour the wax into the duck mold.
Please Note: you will be using 2
of the 4 duck openings.
Step
9: Now that the blue gel wax has cooled more, slowing
pour this into your jars stopping where the jar starts to change shape. Straighten your wicks. Allow the gel wax to harden.
Step
10: Once the ducks are moveable, place the mold into the
freezer. This will speed up the wax
setting up.
Step 11: When the ducks are ready, remove them from the
freezer. Carefully remove the wax ducks
from the mold. When the gel wax has
completely set up, place one duck on the candle.
Your Duck on the Pond candles are now
ready. Simply trim your wick, light, and
enjoy!
