Parsley Powder Benefits: Growing ConditionsParsley Powder Benefits: Growing Conditions

There are two types of parsley that you can grow in your garden. First, you have the more commonly used type, which is flat-leaf parsley. This type of parsley is more flavorful and is easier to chop for cooking. Second, you have the option of curly parsley. You will find that this type of parsley still tastes good and can be used in food, but it has a less potent flavor. However, the curly parsley is used more for a nice aesthetic than the taste. It is often thought of as the more pretty of the two options for growing this herb.

Both these plants can be put either outside or indoors. These plants prefer to have loamy soil. Also, you may want soil that is well turned with rich compost added. You can use either full or partial sun when outdoors, but the indoor plants should be near a sunny window. Also, the parsley will do best with moist soil.

Parsley Powder Benefits: Harvesting Parsley

One thing that is a bit different about parsley is that it is a biennial plant. This means that the harvest cycle for this plant will be a bit different. The first year you will be able to harvest the plant’s leaves. You will know it is time to pick the leaves when you have three segments on the leaf stem. Also, you will want to pick the stalks that are furthest from the center. Leaving the center leaves will allow your plant to survive and continue to grow.

The second year will have fewer leaves that are less flavorful. While you can use some of the leaves, this is the time when the plant will want to bloom and provide seeds that you can plant in the spring. Lastly, the herb will grow a taproot in the third season. You can use the parsley root for cosmetics or for cooking. In fact, the root is considered the most flavorful part of the plant and is perfect for cooking.
