How to Make Scented Slime with Borax: Creating the Borax Solution

First, you are going to need to create your borax solution for this recipe. While it is the first thing you create for this recipe, it will be the last thing that you will add to your slime mixture. So, you will need to add a teaspoon of the borax to an 8 oz bullet bottle to start. Then, you will add eight ounces or cup of warm water to the bottle (you will want to fill the eight ounce bullet bottle completely without overfilling). Then, you will need to add the smooth disc lid to the bullet bottle. Now, you need to make sure the lid is closed and sealed tight. Then, you will be able to shake the bottle to mix up your borax solution. After the warm water and borax are fully mixed, you can set this mixture aside for a later step.

How to Make Scented Slime with Borax: How Much Fragrance Can I Use?How to Make Scented Slime with Borax: How Much Fragrance Can I Use?

Once you’ve found your favorite fragrance oil for slime, you need to determine how much of the scented oil to add to your recipe. For this slime recipe, we would recommend that you use about 4 ml (about 5 grams) of fragrance oil. You can measure this amount using a disposable pipette. This will ensure that your amount of fragrance is within the maximum recommended amount to be body safe.

If you want to add even more fragrance to your slime recipe, then you will want to pay attention to the maximum usage rates. As you can see in the picture, the maximum use for lotions is provided. We would put slime in this category with lotion recipes as the slime would stay on your skin for longer periods of time. For our Bubble Gum Fragrance Oil, the maximum amount we could include would be 5% of the total recipe’s weight. So, in this slime recipe, you could a maximum 13 grams of fragrance. If you don’t have a craft scale to weigh this amount, you can easily use a food scale.

How to Make Scented Slime with Borax: How Do I Calculate the Amount of Fragrance Oil I Need?

If your chosen fragrance has a different suggested usage rate, you need to determine how much fragrance oil you plan to use. For this example, I will use 5% (which can be converted to 0.05). So, you need to weigh out your glue and shaving cream. You will simply take the weight of your slime and multiply by the percentage of fragrance oil that we suggest. We will use a cup of glue, which should weigh about 260 grams. So, you would multiply this weight by the suggested usage rate for this fragrance oil.

260 g x 0.05 = 13 g

This means that in this case, you will use 13 grams of fragrance oil.

Now that you have your colorants and fragrance oils pick out, you are ready to add them to your mixture. You can add in a drop or two of your colorant and mix everything together. Then, you can decide whether you need to add more color. Also, you can use a toothpick to add an amount that is even smaller than a drop. Just dip the toothpick into the colorant and swirl it into your mixture. Once you have a good color, you can add a body safe fragrance oil that you enjoy! Once these are both added, you can mix everything together and move on to the last step!

Now, you are ready to finish mixing your slime. So, you will need your mixture in the medium bowl and the borax solution from before. You will add about one tablespoon to start. Then, begin to mix your slime. We suggest that you use your hands to mix. If you’d like, you can wear disposable gloves while you mix in the borax solution. You will need to add another tablespoon of the borax solution and mix. You will want to continue going back and forth between adding borax and mixing until you reach the right consistency. If the mixture is too sticky, then continue to add more borax. However, you will want to avoid adding too much borax. If you add too much of the borax solution, your slime will be too stiff and not as stretchy. So, make sure you add only small amounts of the solution at a time.

How to Make Scented Slime with Borax: Storing Your Slime for Later
