Beard Oil Recipe: A Closer Look at the Ingredients
Before we begin creating our beard balm let’s take a closer look at some of the ingredients we will be using. Each of the ingredients used in this recipe were added specifically for a man’s beard. Below, we will talk about each of these ingredients and why they were chosen to be included in our handcrafted beard oil recipe.
Beard Oil Recipe: Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil has similar qualities to the natural oils of the face. That makes jojoba oil a wonderful moisturizer. Next, we will talk about the oil itself. Jojoba Oil is actually a liquid wax. It contributes a nice stable lather when used in soap, has remarkable absorption and moisturizing qualities, and unlike some of the other luxury moisturizing oils, Natures Garden jojoba oil has a very long shelf life. The shelf life of jojoba oil is one to two years.
Beard Oil Recipe: Olive Oil
Next, we used olive oil. Olive oil is totally awesome for hair follicles. It will help not only repair your hair follicles, but also leave it nice and shiny. Now, let’s talk about Natures Garden’s olive oil pomace. Pomace grade olive oil is a thick, rich, green grade of olive oil that is obtained by solvent extraction of the fruit and pits of the olives. It is what’s left over after the first several pressings that give the virgin and Grade A oils.
Beard Oil Recipe: Sweet Almond Oil
Next, Natures Garden’s sweet almond oil was added to this recipe as well. Sweet almond oil is a fabulous oil when it comes to ingrown hair. It is a great oil for irritated skin or to help soothe ingrown hairs. Natures Garden’s sweet almond oil is cosmetic grade and refined. Sweet Almond Oil is a light, non-greasy, moisturizing oil that absorbs easily into the skin. Therefore, sweet almond oil is frequently used in lip gloss recipes, massage oil recipes, lotion recipes, sugar scrub recipes, salt scrub recipes, and homemade soap recipes.
Beard Oil Recipe: Lanolin Oil USP
We added lanolin to this recipe in a liquid oil form. We This liquid form of lanolin in much less viscous than typical lanolin, and is produced by heating lanolin at low temps to remove the liquid esters in lanolin. Lanolin oil provides waterproofing and moisturizing to skincare products and is excellent in lip care formulations. Lanolin oil can often be used as a substitute for mineral oil in your cosmetic formulations.
Beard Oil Recipe: Fractionated Coconut Oil
Fractionated coconut oil contains only the medium-chain triglycerides of coconut oil, making it a liquid at relatively low temperatures. It is a very stable oil. Fractionated coconut oil has an indefinite shelf life and is a light, non-staining, non-greasy, colorless oil. It is great for use in massage, toiletries and handcrafted soap. Fractionated coconut oil is a great carrier oil for essential oils. Fractionated coconut oil can be used in lotions, lip applications, cosmetics, creams, bath oils, massage oils, bath salts, and cold process soap.
Beard Oil Recipe: Sesame Seed Oil
Sesame seed oil is a light oil (liquid state at room temperature) that is high in antioxidants and vitamins. Sesame seed oil is an excellent, luxurious, conditioning oil in cold process/hot process soap. Our suggestion for usage of sesame seed oil in soap is 5% – 10%. Sesame seed oil does have a natural, distinctive aroma that should be taken into consideration when used in high percentages in your recipes.
Beard Oil Recipe: Rice Bran Oil
Rice Bran Oil (cosmetic grade)- Expressed from the husks of rice, most soap makers found that rice bran oil imparted nearly the same creamy, moisturizing qualities that olive oil did to their soaps. It does have a lot of the same antioxidants and vitamins that olive oil has, and a similar fatty acid make up.
Beard Oil Recipe: Vitamin E Oil
The purest form of natural vitamin E available (from plant sources only). This is not tocopherol acetate (the form found in many vitamin E capsules). Vitamin E is required in most cosmetic formulations in very small amounts in order to prevent oils from oxidizing. When fixed oils oxidize, they develop a very rancid smell and can turn your products brown in color, which will ruin your finished products. Prevent this from occurring by adding vitamin E to your formulations. Our vitamin E oil is also heat stable and is added during the oil phase of your recipes.
It is a popular myth that antioxidants can be used in place of preservatives in recipes that require a preservative. Antioxidants simply prevent rancidity and some discoloration from occurring. Antioxidants do not kill bacteria. When a recipe requires a preservative, such as a recipe that contains water, please be certain to use a preservative.
Beard Oil Recipe: Eucalyptus Herb
We added eucalyptus leaves to this beard oil for its ability to help with irritation and redness. Read on to learn a little more about our eucalyptus leaves. INCI (Eucalyptus globulus). Natures Garden’s eucalyptus leaves can be used in cosmetics & soap as an antiseptic, anti-parasitic, wound healing additive. Eucalyptus leaf helps to clean the skin, and has the ability to reduce redness and irritation. Eucalyptus leaves can be used to make sinus relief eye pillows for people who are feeling “under the weather”.

Beard Oil Recipe: Using Your Beard Oil
Now, I know what you’re thinking, how do I use this beard oil? Well, the best time to use a beard oil is right after you get out of the shower or wash your face. You see, the warm water will help open your pores and really help your skin better absorb all of the oils in this beard oil recipe. However, use caution when using your beard oil. A little bit goes a long way in this case. I would suggest starting with an amount smaller than the size of a dime. You may need more or less depending on the size of your beard. Although the amount you use will vary, you will know you have used too much if you have a lot of oil left behind.
