A Few Additional Preparations

When preparing any type of bath bomb or bath fizzy recipe, it is best that they are prepared in non-humid climates.  Bath bombs fizz when added to water due to the combination of baking soda and citric acid being added to water.  So, when prepared in humid climates the bath bombs can actually react to the moisture in the air itself.

Prior to making this recipe, pour some of your rubbing alcohol into your 8 ounce bullet bottle in order to be prepared.  Another option is witch hazel.  You can use witch hazel when creating bath bombs as well.  Both will work when creating bath bombs.  However, rubbing alcohol will create a harder bath fizzy.

About the Fragrance Oils

Before we begin, let’s take a look at the scents we will be using.  For this bath bomb recipe we will be working with two fragrance oils to create our candy apple bath bomb recipe.  First, we will use Natures Garden’s Caramel Fragrance Oil.  The second scent that we will be using in our bath fizzy project is the powerful Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil.

Caramel Fragrance OilCaramel Fragrance Oil

First, let’s look at Natures Garden’s Caramel fragrance oil.  This scent by  is the aroma of buttery, toffee caramel. It is a great to use by itself or to a wonderful scent to mix with others for creative fragrance blends.  In fact, it is smells wonderful when mixed with our Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil.

Next, let’s talk about the Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil from Natures Garden!  This apple scent is unbelievably strong.  In my opinion, it is the strongest apple scent that we carry here at Natures Garden Candle and Soap Making Supplies. We believe we have quite possibly found the “spunkiest” green apple fragrance oil on earth!  We thought about calling it Granny Smith Apple, but this fragrance deserves a name that “pops” just like its aroma.  Thus, may we present:  Green Apple Explosion! This apple aroma is an NG original scent!

Prepare the Bath Bombs

To begin, we will prepare the bath bombs and allow them to setup before covering them with the melt and pour soap.  So, you will want to put on your apron and gloves before starting.

Recipe Weights for the Green Bath Bomb Portion

182 grams Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate
300 grams Citric Acid
600 grams Baking Soda
9 grams Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil
9 grams Caramel Fragrance Oil
4 grams Lime Green FUN Soap Colorant
4 grams Neon Green FUN Soap Colorant

Prepare the Powdered Ingredients for the Candy Apple Bath Bombs Recipe

Prepare the Baking SodaFirst, you will need a deep mixing bowl.  To your mixing bowl, add the baking soda.  Then, use your hands to break any clumps that you may find in the baking soda.

Add the Sodium Cocoyl IsethionateNext, to the bowl containing the baking soda, add the sodium cocoyl isethionate.  Then, use your hands to blend the ingredients together.  Once again, as you are mixing, break up any clumps that you find in the mixture.

Add the Citric AcidThe final powdered ingredient that we will be adding is the citric acid.  So, add the citric acid to the bowl.  Then, mix the ingredients together.  Finally, break any lumps found in the mixture apart just as you did before.

Scenting and Coloring the Caramel Apple Bath Bombs Recipe

Coloring the Caramel Apple Bath Bombs Recipe

At this time, we will color and scent the candy apple bath bombs.  So, to the bowl containing the powdered ingredients, add the fragrance oils.  First, you will need to add 9 grams of the caramel fragrance oil.  In addition, add 9 grams of the green apple explosion fragrance oil.  Finally, we will add the two colorants.  So, to the same bowl add 4 grams of the lime green colorant and 4 grams of the neon green FUN Soap Colorant from Natures Garden.  Once you have added the ingredients, use your hands to mix everything together.  You will want to be sure everything is mixed thoroughly before moving on.

Prepare the Candy Apple Bath Bomb Mixture for the Molds

Prepare the Candy Apple Bath Bomb Mixture for the MoldsNow, you will need the bottle of rubbing alcohol that you prepared earlier.  Then, begin spraying the candy apple bath bomb mixture with rubbing alcohol.  You will want to spray in small amounts.  So, spray a small amount of the rubbing alcohol and then use your hands to mix.  Continue spraying and mixing.  You will want to repeat this process until it reaches a point that you can squeeze the mixture and it holds a form.  However, be careful not to overspray the mixture.  If this happens, your bath bomb will become too wet and it will not fizz when it is added to the bathtub.

Fill the Bath Bomb Molds

Fill the Bath Bomb MoldsOnce your bath bomb mixture is at the proper consistency, you can fill the bath bomb molds.  You will need a total of seven sets of bath bomb molds.  Begin filling each of your molds.  Make sure you are packing the molds tightly.  You will need to fill a total of seven molds.

Putting the Candy Apple Bath Bomb TogetherWhen you have filled all seven molds, you can put the two halves together.  Before pressing the two halves together, spray each one with rubbing alcohol.  Then, press them together.  Allow the bath bombs to setup overnight before moving on.

Adding the Lollipop Stick

Adding the Lollipop Stick

Once your bath fizzies have setup, remove them from the bath bomb molds.  Then, you will need to add one lollipop stick to each bath bomb.  Place a stick through the center of each bath bomb.  You want to apply gentle pressure and slowly insert the stick.  If you apply too much pressure or try to move too quickly, your bath bomb can begin cracking.  Place the candy apple bath bombs on a sheet of wax paper.  Alternatively, you can place them on a silicone baking mat.

Prepare the Melt and Pour Soap Base

The next step will be preparing the melt and pour soap base.  We will begin by preparing a caramel colored hemp oil melt and pour soap base.  Then, we will go over it with the clear melt and pour soap base.  Now, I am sure you are wondering why we are using two different types of soap base for this portion of the candy apple bath bombs recipe.  Well, we first attempted this recipe using only the clear base.  It took quite a few layers to get a full coverage and used a lot of soap base.  So, then, we added a caramel colored layer using the hemp oil soap base.  However, this look did not have the shiny caramel look that we wanted.  So, we ended up doing a layer of the hemp oil soap base to get the full coverage.  Then, we added a second layer using the clear soap base.

Total Recipe Weights for Hemp Oil Soap Portion

100 grams Hemp Oil MP Soap Base
2 grams Caramel Fragrance Oil
2 grams Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil
15 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
2 drops Red Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Creating the First Layer of Melt and Pour Soap

Creating the First Layer of Melt and Pour SoapNow, we will prepare the first layer of caramel soap.  For the first layer, we will use the hemp oil melt and pour soap base.  So, in a small bowl, weigh out and melt the hemp oil soap base.  You will want to melt the mp soap in 30-second bursts until the base is in a liquid state.  Then, add the red oxide and yellow oxide FUN Soap Colorants.  Finally, add both the caramel fragrance oil and the green apple explosion fragrance oil.  Stir the melted soap base to blend everything together.

Total Recipe Amounts For Diamond Clear Soap Portion

100 grams Diamond Clear MP Soap Base
2 grams Caramel Fragrance Oil
2 grams Green Apple Explosion Fragrance Oil
10 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
1 drops Red Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Prepare the Clear Melt and Pour Soap

Once you have coated your candy apple bath bomb with the hemp oil mp soap, we will cover it with a clear caramel colored soap base.

Creating the Clear Caramel SoapPrepare the Clear Soap Base

So, weigh out and melt 100 grams of the diamond clear soap base.  Then, add the caramel and apple fragrance oils. In addition, add 10 drops of yellow oxide FUN Soap Colorant and 1 drop of the red oxide FUN Soap Colorant.  Stir to blend the ingredients together.
