How to Use Kaolin ClayHow to Use Kaolin Clay

If you have very sensitive skin, and need a recipe that will work with it, then check out these recipes by Nature’s Garden. We will talk about kaolin clay benefits, and different attributes that make up this wonderful clay. There are a lot of different minerals that make up kaolin clay that make it productive in any skin application. There are also a lot of different applications for this clay as it can be used in bath bombs, powders, and soap applications. The application for the clay is going to depend on it’s mineral composition. The best part about this clay is that it’s naturally occurring as well. So, you get the benefits of 100% natural minerals being present in the clay powder. We hope you enjoy learning about and seeing bath and body recipes involving this wonderful substance.

What is Kaolin Clay?

Kaolin Clay is a white, soft clay powder that is commonly used for people with sensitive skin. This clay is a type of silicate that was named “Gaoling” by the Chinese, then later adapted as “Kaolin” by the French. This clay is derived from the mineral called Kaolinite which is a soft, white, earthy mineral found from within the ground. In the United States some of the largest deposits of Kaolinite can be found in central Georgia. There’s a town in Georgia called Sandersville that is known as the “Kaolin Capital of the World”. Kaolin clay is commonly used in both cosmetics as well as soaping. This clay has the ability to harden different bath products as well as cleanse the skin.

Uses for Kaolin Clay outside of Cosmetics and Soap

While Natures Garden sells kaolin clay for use only in cosmetics, it has benefits in other industries as well. Kaolin Clay can be mixed with water to create a poultice for treating minor wounds. Another interesting use for Kaolin Clay is as a fruit fly repellent. All you need to do is add 2 tablespoons of Kaolin Powder for every 12 ounces of water into a water bottle. Afterwards, go around and spray any areas where you don’t want fruit flies. When Kaolin Clay is made, it’s tested for mineral content afterwards to see if it can be used for cosmetic, medicinal, or industrial purposes. Usually, Kaolin Clay is more commonly used in cosmetics though.

How to use Kaolin Clay in Different Cosmetics

Kaolin Clay poses a lot of different benefits when used in cosmetic recipes. For example, in bath bombs, Kaolin Clay is known to be a good color fixative which allows the color to show and not fuse within the bath bomb. It also acts as a hardening agent for bath bombs. When used in any bath fizzes or bath bombs, kaolin clay is a great way to soften the skin once you get out of the bathtub. Kaolin Clay is even used in deodorant recipes. When used in deodorant, this clay may help detoxify the skin underneath as well. You can also take advantage of the natural mineral makeup of this clay and use it in eye shadows, foundations, and blushes. This will allow you to get the true color that you’d desire.

How to use Kaolin Clay in Different Soaps

When used in soap, this clay is wonderful for those with sensitive skin. Kaolin Clay is rich in potassium, titanium, and silicon which when wet, will give your soap a smooth, silky, and creamy feel. Kaolin clay is also useful in retaining moisture when applied. The direct result of this is skin that is left moisturized and not so tight when you are done cleaning it. Also, this clay can be used to exfoliate your skin, leaving it smooth and clean.

Using Kaolin Clay to Help With Acne

When you use Kaolin Clay in body products, it not only can help some fight acne, but will do so in a smooth way that isn’t painful to your natural skin. This white clay, when used in soaps, is really good at picking up any oils. Some people will use this clay for types of skin conditions. Examples including: acne, skin irritations, skin inflammation, and dry flaky skin.

Silky Shimmering Body Powder Recipe Using Kaolin ClayHow to Use Kaolin Clay: Silky Shimmering Body Powder Recipe

Kaolin Clay was the perfect choice for The Silky Shimmering Body Powder Recipe. Due to it’s natural tendency to have a soft feel to the skin, this clay powder is perfect for applying to sensitive skin. The ingredient that gives this recipe it’s shimmer is Nature’s Garden’s Mica Diamond Dust Pigment. This fragrance oil uses a complex blend of floral notes all combined with base of musk.

Tea Tree Soap Recipe Using Kaolin ClayHow to Use Kaolin Clay: Tea Tree Soap Recipe

Finally, we will look at the Tea Tree Soap Recipe. This melt and pour soap recipe not only uses kaolin clay, it also uses Natures Garden’s pure tea tree essential oil. In this hemp mp soap making project, we show you how to use the white clay to allow you to swirl melt and pour soap. One half of the soap is scented and simply colored. The clay is added to other half of the soap. By adding the clay to half of the soap, it will make this portion a slightly thicker consistency. This creates a tension barrier, preventing the two colors of soap from mixing together. Instead of blending together, it creates swirls within each bar of soap.

Kaolin Clay comes from Kaolinite, which is a naturally occurring mineral. I’m going to discuss the process of how they extract these minerals. Understanding Kaolin Clay uses, also involves understanding where it comes from. This koalin clay article was used as a basis to understand the operations involved in mining this mineral. You can find the largest deposits of Kaolinite in the United States in Georgia. By itself, Kaolinite serves little to no purpose when extracted as a raw material. Before they start drilling for this material, land analysts research the land and make calculations on where the best location would be to find deposits. Afterwards, they drill 200 foot deep holes. They drill around 50-100 holes for every 100 acres to get a reasonable sample. This sample set will allow the miners to understand the quality of the Kaolinite in the area.

Preparations Before Creating the MP Soap

Clean and sanitize your work area and all of your equipment as well as your packaging materials. Make sure you have enough room to work. Grab all of your ingredients now so you will have them in reach. When trying a new recipe, it is easier to have all the necessities so you are able to focus on the what you need to do.  It is suggested that you wear gloves, protective clothing, and a hair net while preparing this recipe.  In addition, prepare a spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will help prevent you from getting air bubbles in the top of your soap.

Preparing Your Soap ColorantsPreparing Your Soap Colorants

Now, you will need to prepare the colorants.  We will use a combination of rose clay and tomato red FUN Soap Colorant for the pink.  For the brown colorant, we will use a combination of the cocoa powder and brown and black oxides.

Preparing Rose Clay Soap ColorantPreparing Rose Clay Soap Colorant

You will need a small mixing bowl for this. Add the 5 grams of rose clay. Then start adding about 12 grams of vegetable glycerin.  Stir the vegetable glycerin slowly. You’re looking for a completely emulsified paste. Once completely blended, set it aside.

Preparing Brown Soap ColorantPreparing Brown Soap Colorant

Grab another small mixing bowl. Slowly add 5 grams of cocoa powder and then add 12 grams of vegetable glycerin. Once that mixture is completely combined, add 5 drops of black oxide colorants and 10 drops brown oxide colorant to deepen the color. Then, stir to completely combine the paste!

Preparing The Brown Layer of SoapPreparing the Brown Layer of Soap

In a clean medium microwave safe mixing bowl, add 340 grams of soya milk melt and pour soap base. Begin melting the soap base in short 30-second increments. Make sure to stir in between each burst. Once completely melted, add the 17 grams of sandalwood fragrance oil from Natures Garden. Then, add the brown soap colorant. Stir the soap base until it is completely combined.

Pouring the Brown Layer into the MoldPouring the Brown Layer into the Mold

Slowly pour the brown soap mixture into the mold. Once all the soap is in the two pound loaf mold, spray the soap layer with rubbing alcohol to remove any lingering air bubbles. This step gets rid of the air bubbles to give you an smooth finish. Set this aside to allow it to set up before moving on.

Preparing the White Soap LayerPreparing the White Soap Layer

Once the brown layer is set up, we can begin making the white layer of soap. Start by adding the 227 grams of soya milk melt and pour soap base. Completely melt the mp soap just like you did in the previous step. Then, add 11 grams of sandalwood fragrance oil. Stir the mixture until you’re sure the oil is thoroughly integrated.

Pouring the White Layer Into the MoldPouring the White Layer Into the Mold

Start by spraying the previous layer of brown soap with your alcohol. This will ensure that your soap layers adhere to each other. When you’re sure your white layer of soap is completely blended with the fragrance oil, begin adding your white soap base to the loaf mold. Then, spray your white layer of soap with your alcohol. Finally, allow time for it to set up before continuing.

Preparing the Pink Soap LayerPreparing the Pink Soap Layer

Now, we will prepare the pink layer of soap. Begin by adding 340 grams of soya melt and pour soap base into a clean and dry mixing bowl. Melt the soap base and stir to make sure all clumps are gone. Once thoroughly melted, add 17 grams of the Sandalwood fragrance oil and the rose clay colorant that you prepared earlier. Stir the mixture until everything is completely blended together.

Pouring The Pink Soap LayerPouring The Pink Soap Layer

Start by spraying the white layer of soap with rubbing alcohol. This will ensure that this layer and the next layer adhere to each other. Then, pour the pink soap base on top of your white layer. Once you have all of your base into the mold, respray your pink layer to remove any air bubbles. Place it aside, allowing time for it to fully set before moving on. You’re starting to get close to your perfect Sandalwood MP Soap.

Preparing The Whipped SoapPreparing The Whipped Soap

In a large mixing bowl, put 207 grams of the whipped soap base into the bowl. Then, add 20 grams of Sandalwood fragrance oil. Next, add 20 grams of the vegetable glycerin. Use a hand mixer to completely combined the ingredients. Keep mixing the whipped soap base until it has the same consistency as whipped cream.

Adding the Soy Soap Base To The Whipped SoapAdding the Soy Soap Base To The Whipped Soap

Alright, now that you have finished getting the consistency you need for the whipped soap, weigh out the last remaining 207 grams of Soya Milk Melt and Pour soap base. Melt the soap base the same as you did in the previous steps. Once satisfied that there are no chunks of soap left unmelted, add the soya melt and pour and quickly mix the ingredients with a hand mixer, until all the melt and pour soap base is in your whipped soap bowl. Again, you’re looking for a whipped cream consistency!

Adding The Finished Whipped Soap On Top

When going to add the final layer of soap, spray the top of the pink soap in the mold with the alcohol to ensure that the whipped soap adheres to the pink soap. Once you have sprayed the soap, you can go ahead and add the whipped soap on top of the pink layer. When adding the next layer, try to keep some peaks to the whipped soap. This will give you an added texture, while also looking like a neapolitan cake.

Topping the Sandalwood MP SoapTopping the Sandalwood MP Soap

Next, add the final touch to your layered soap. While the whipped is still wet, add the Himalayan pink salt. We used about two tablespoons. However, you can use more or less if you choose to. Sprinkle this evenly on top. Let the soap dry and completely set up.

Cutting the Sandalwood MP SoapCutting the Sandalwood MP Soap

After your soap has setup, you will be able to cut it to your desired thicknesses. Place the soap in the mitre box. Then, use the cutter to slice your soap to the thickness of your choosing. Once you cut the soap into individual bars it is ready to use! This makes the perfect bar of soap for the shower or washing your face and hands. We hope you love this Sandalwood MP Soap Recipe as much as we do!

Hopefully you have had an amazing experience making your Sandalwood MP soap. We were inspired to create this project due to the amazing benefits of Himalayan pink sea salt. So, we wanted to make a soap to showcase it! In fact some of the staff of Natures Garden love pink salt so much that they go to pink salt rooms.  To read more about Himalayan salt therapy, you can check it out at Kalahari Resort Website!
