Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Prepare Your Work Station
Before you begin making this craft you will want to protect the surface that you are working on. So, cover the surface you are working on with either wax paper or an old newspaper. This will protect the surface that you are working on from the glue and the fragrance oil. Plus, covering your work space prior to working will provide you with a super easy clean up. You will have no need to scrape or wash off glue. So, there is no effort required. Plus, the cover will help prevent the fragrance oil from potentially ruining your counter top. So, no effort and no worries. Just throw away your cover and the surface of your work station is clean!
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Preparing the Liquid Glue
First, you are going to want to prepare the liquid glue that is needed for this ornament recipe. You can use any kind of craft glue, as long as it is liquid and will be clear when it dries. While we have not tested how this recipe would work with glitter glue, this may be a fun idea to try out on your own ornaments. Now, you are going to need about 2 ounces of glue to create three ornaments that are about the size of one of our bath bombs. Feel free to make the size and amount that you prefer, but make sure that there is enough glue to create your ornaments. So, you can estimate the amount of glue that you need based on size and amount compared to our recipe.
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Scenting the Liquid Glue
Next, we are going to add the Country Christmas Fragrance Oil. So, you can put this aroma into the liquid glue in the bowl. For every two ounces of liquid glue that you are using, you can add in 2-4 mL of this fragrance oil. You can add the necessary amount of fragrance using the disposable pipettes or estimate in another bowl before you combine these ingredients. But, those that are creating ornaments a bit different, may need to take this into account when adding their fragrance oil. This means that those that added more glue for their recipe, may need to add a bit more fragrance oil, too. After, you will need to thoroughly mix the glue and fragrance oil together.
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Preparing the Balloons
Now, you are going to blow up each of your three balloons. Since the twine ball will gain its same from the balloon, you are going to want to blow up your balloons to the size that you want your ornaments to be. We wanted a typical Christmas ornament size, so our balloons are pretty small. You can make your ornaments this size or switch it up. It’s up to you and will work out either way. Depending on how you intend to use these to decorate, you may need to adjust your size. So, you can try holding the balloon up to an area to check whether the size is right for that area.
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Wrap Up Your Balloons
Then, you will be ready to wrap your balloons with twine. The size that we used needed about 3 to 4 feet of twine each, but this amount may be different depending on the size of your balloons. As you wrap the twine around the balloon you will want to leave some gaps, but you will want to overlap quite a bit. This way the twine will stick to each other and hold its shape after the balloon is gone. So, do something similar to our example. Also, you can just tuck the end under another string when you are satisfied with your design. Later, the glue will dry and hold the twine’s end in place. Before you move on, be sure to repeat this step with your other balloons.
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Adding the Glue
Next, you are ready to add the liquid glue to your twine covered balloon. Also, you are going to want a solid surface that your balloon can sit on while it dries. We have ours in our bath bomb molds, but you can use a plate, bowl, or anything washable to hold your drying ornament. So, take your scented liquid glue and start adding it to your twine ball. You want to make sure that you add enough so that the shape of the balloon holds in the twine. Plus, the more that you use means that more fragrance oil is added and it will be stronger. So, make sure to add plenty of glue to each of your twine covered balloons!
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Popping and Removing the Balloon
Later, you will need to pop the balloon and remove the pieces from inside the hardened twine ball. But, you need to make sure that you wait until the liquid craft glue has completely dried. In fact, you may want to consider giving the twine time to dry over night. This will make sure that the twine will hold its shape after the balloon is gone. After the glue has completely dried you can use a sharp object to poke the balloon. Then, you can pull out the deflated balloon and any pieces that may exist. This will leave you with a twine ball that perfectly holds the desired shape. Before you move on, you will need to repeat this for each of your ornaments. Now, your ornaments are nearly complete!
Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments Recipe: Preparing the Ribbon or Fabric
Now, you need to prepare the ribbon for the ornament. This will be used to hang the finished product and looks super cute, too. If you are using fabric to create the ribbon, then cut a strip that is an inch across and 8 inches long. But, those that are using regular ribbon can cut a piece off that is 8 inches long. After you have your strip of either ribbon or fabric it is time to add it to your nearly finished ornament. So, you will need to create a loop that is big enough to hang on the Christmas tree. Then, you can tie the ribbon or fabric strip to your ornament to the twine ornament with a knot. You can leave a bit of the fabric on either side to make it look like a little bow. Finally, your ornament is finished and ready for you to start decorating your Christmas tree!
