Popular Christmas FragrancesPopular Christmas Fragrances

It’s almost that time of year! Time for Christmas, time for gifts and time for some inspiration to create those gifts. Christmas can sometimes feel overwhelming! From decorating the house, writing out Christmas cards, baking cookies, shopping, Christmas parties, well, the list can go on and on. Plus, trying to think up something fun and unique to give for your friends and family can be intimidating as well. If your a crafter, soaper, candlemaker, then naturally you have the urge to make something for those friends and family. Nature’s Garden has a list of our 10 Popular Christmas Fragrances that we hope will get those creative juices flowing!

Popular Christmas Fragrances: Candy Cane Fragrance OilPopular Christmas Fragrances: Candy Cane Fragrance Oil

First up we have our Candy Cane Fragrance Oil. This is a very popular fragrance at Christmas time! This isn’t just a straight up peppermint scent. This fragrance is peppermint, spearmint, with a touch of strawberries, eucalyptus and a nice soft background of vanilla.

Candy Cane fragrance worked perfectly in our cold process soap testing! There was no ricing, separation, or accelerating! However, we did experience some discoloring to a brown. You can use Vanilla White Color Stabilizer to help prevent the oxidation of the fragrance. Also, the scent retention was strong and true throughout the cure time!

This fragrance oil is body safe and would be perfect in all bath and body products. We have a wonderful recipe that uses our Candy Cane Fragrance Oil. Check out our sweet Candy Cane Candle. This candle has pretty pink, red and white layers with a fluffy white topping and some sweet little swirled wafer embeds sitting atop the fluff!

This next fragrance oil is lovely all year long, not just at Christmas time! Christmas Cabernet fragrance oil has a true Cabernet scent of cherries and oak. With hints of ginger, vanilla and wine, this is a perfect fragrance to get you into the holiday spirit.

Christmas Cabernet is a soaper’s dream! During our cold process soap testing, there was no ricing, accelerating, or separating. Although it did turn a shade of olive brown, using a Vanilla White Color Stabilizer may help prevent this. Also, the scent retention was incredibly strong even after its cure time. This fragrance is also body safe and makes some wonderful smelling bath and body products. It also worked equally well in all soy and vegetable waxes.

If you enjoy making bath and body products, check out our Wine Sugar Scrub recipe. Sugar scrubs are incredibly popular and easy to make. A few simple ingredients such as sugar, olive oil, cocoa butter and grapeseed oil, is all it takes to make up nine 4 oz. jars of this yummy smelling scrub! Your skin will smell amazing and will also feel soft and smooth afterward.

Christmas Thyme fragrance oil is perfect for those that want a pine fragrance that isn’t overwhelming! Definite top notes of cinnamon, bayberries and apples along with the undertones of pine and thyme. A perfect balance that smells fresh and crisp!

Christmas Thyme is one of the few fragrances that is not body safe, therefore we did no cold process soap testing, nor any testing in bath and body products. However, this is a wonderful scent for those looking for candle fragrances that have wonderful cold and hot throws. This fragrance also makes a perfect room freshener or potpourri and incense.

If you are looking for a recipe to create for those that like potpourri, check out our Christmas Liquid Potpourri Recipe. This recipe uses our DPG solvent and of course, Christmas Thyme fragrance oil. When it’s ready to use, simply pour into your potpourri burner or even an oil burner and let your house fill with the fresh, clean scent of an outdoor Christmas.

Popular Christmas Fragrances: Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins Fragrance OilPopular Christmas Fragrances: Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins Fragrance Oil

What in the world is a Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins? This fragrance oil by Natures Garden was inspired by one of our favorite movies of all times – “ELF”.  At one point in the movie, Buddy mentions that he feels like a “Cotton headed ninny muggin”; AKA…an ELF Airhead.  This made us think, “What would a cotton headed ninny muggin smell like?”  Cotton headed ninny muggin fragrance oil begins with sweet, buttery, creamy coconut and vanilla frosting; leading to middle notes of powdery heliotrope and spicy hints; and sits on a powerful vanilla base. A very yummy smelling cotton head you will be!

Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins worked perfectly in our cold process soap testing! With no ricing, accelerating, separating, it soaped beautifully. However, it does discolor to a chocolate brown. The addition of some Vanilla White Color Stabilizer would be perfect to help prevent that. This fragrance oil also tested positive in room fresheners, all candle waxes and in bath and body products!

Have you ever thought of making your own play dough? It’s actually an easy craft that the kids can help out making! With some flour, vegetable oil and warm water, you can have some fun creating when it gets too yucky to play outside! Our Scented Play Dough recipe is made with five different colors and five different Christmas fragrances, one being Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins! This is must try if your kids are looking for something fun to do!

Our Country Christmas fragrance oil is a truly fantastic scent that is a blend of bayberries, cranberries, and apples, with spicy nuances of nutmeg and cloves with a top note of orange zests. This is another fragrance oil that makes me picture an old fashioned Christmas in a warm, cozy farmhouse or cabin.

Country Christmas fragrance oil was not tested in cold process soap due to the fact that the maximum body safeness level was very low. If you do choose to soap with it, please try to stick to the guideline of the percentage we have allowed for. However, this fragrance is perfect in candles, wax melts, and any type of room freshening recipe!

With a country Christmas comes pictures of rustic decorations, home smells and family gatherings. We developed an easy decoration that uses our Country Christmas fragrance! Our Scented Twine Christmas Ornaments are a fun, easy craft to create! Simply wrap twine around an inflated balloon, coat the twine in scented glue, allow to dry. When the twine has hardened, you can pop the balloon and you’re left with a yummy smelling, rustic ornament that will give your tree a down-home look!

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies RecipeSugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil is my personal favorite Christmas fragrance oil.  This fragrance oil from Natures Garden was the perfect fragrance for these bath bombs.  Often times, here at Natures Garden, we are inspired by pictures we see, things we see out shopping, and nature, of course.  Well this Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe was no exception.  We were actually inspired by some Christmas ornaments we saw on Pinterest.  These sparkly purple ornaments from Smile Mercantile are perfect for the season.  We absolutely adored these ornaments and were inspired to create these handcrafted bath bombs to share with all of you.  While the sparkle of these bath bombs is not as apparent in the picture to the left, rest assured they sparkle like crazy!

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Information About the Ingredients in the Bath Bomb Recipe

Now, let’s talk about some the ingredients we will be using.  While some of our ingredients are pretty self explanatory, some of you may want a little more information on others.  So, below, we will talk about some of the ingredients in our bath bomb recipe.

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance OilIn this recipe we use Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil.  This Christmas scent is perfect for the holidays.  Now, let’s talk a little bit about how this fabulous Christmas fragrance oil smells.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil is a charming fragrance oil by Natures Garden which is filled with surprises to delight all of the senses with plums, dark cherries and sweet oranges enhanced with clove, cinnamon, and peppery woodsy undertones.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil Top Notes:

Plum, Black Cherries, Strawberries, Mandarin, Orange

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil Middle Notes:

Black Pepper, Clove, Cinnamon

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil Base Notes:

Sandalwood, Eucalyptus

Natures Garden’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil was inspired by, what else, the Nutcracker’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.  For those that are not familiar, it is performed in Act 2 of the famous 1892 ballet.  The music for the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy was written by Tchaikovsky.  It was also choreographed by Lev Ivanov.  The original Sugar Plum Fairy was portrayed by Antonietta Dell’Era.  However, although the role was created for the prima ballerina of the Nutcracker, the Sugar Plum Fairy did very little dancing in the original number.  This did not go over well with critics and thus, attempts were made to extend the number, incorporating more dancing into this role.

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Sodium Cocoyl IsethionateSugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate

Since this is a fairly new product here at Natures Garden, we will talk a little bit about how it truly kicks your bath bombs up a notch.  First, sodium cocoyl isethionate from Natures Garden comes in granulated form.  After testing various forms, we found this one to be the easiest to work with.  It doesn’t float in the air like the powdered form.  Some places may sell it in a needle form, we prefer the granules.  When this ingredient is added to your products, one of the most obvious will be the foaming you will notice when your bath bomb is activated.  Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate will create bubbles, yes, but that is only one of the wonderful things about this ingredient.  In addition, you will love the way it makes your skin feel.  After adding this product in your bath fizzies, your skin will be left feeling silky soft, clean, and refreshed.  It is a very gentle cleaning and foaming agent that I have no doubt you will become obsessed with.  I know I have!

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Citric AcidSugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Citric Acid

Citric acid it one of the ingredients found in bath bombs that helps to create the fizzing action.  You see, it is the combination of baking soda and citric acid that creates the fizzing of the bath bomb.  Citric acid is found naturally in citrus fruits, it is a natural acid.  It is also used in other cosmetic recipes to lower lower the pH level.

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Baking SodaSugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Baking Soda

Baking soda, also called sodium bicarbonate, is a natural alkaline that is used in cosmetic formulations.  Adding baking soda to your bath will help leave your skin soft and silky feeling.  It is also wonderful on your hair when used in a rinse it will leave your hair silky and smooth.  It is wonderful in cleaning formulas to lift dirt, and remove oils.  In fact, it once saved my carpet.  I had spilled a glass of red wine all over my carpet and couch.  Immediately I poured baking soda generously all over the area, about a half an hour or so later I vacuumed the area and you couldn’t even tell where I spilled it.  The wine had completely vanished.  Baking soda, like we talked about earlier, is combined with citric acid to make bath fizzies.  Baking soda can be used in other types of recipes as well.  In fact, when used with borax, you can make soap, laundry detergent, and dishwasher detergent.  Baking soda is also used in other natural household cleaner formulas.   When used in cleaning recipes, baking soda has natural deodorizing qualities.

512 grams Citric Acid
1,120 grams Baking Soda
18 grams Macadamia Nut Oil
16 grams Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil
2 grams Diamond Dust Mica
4 grams Ultramarine Violet FUN Soap Colorant

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Prior to Starting

Before we begin there are a few things we will go over.  First, when creating bath bombs you don’t really want there to be a lot of humidity in the air.  Bath bombs fizz when you add them to your bath water due to the combination of baking soda and citric acid.  So, the same thing can happen to your bath fizzies if you have a lot of humidity.  Now it isn’t like they are going to just start fizzing like crazy while they’re sitting on your table.  However, it will activate the outer surface of your bath bombs.  Then, you will end up with little dimples on your bath bombs.

Today, we will be using fillable ornament as our bath bomb molds.  You will need a total of six, medium sized ornaments.  While you can use any size you would like really, we used a medium size and created six bath bombs with this recipe.  You will want to have these out and in your work area.

Next, we will be using witch hazel to create our bath fizzies.  This should also be prepared prior to starting this bath bombs recipe.  You can use one of our bullet bottles to hold it.  Place your witch hazel in a bullet bottle and put your fine mist sprayer on top.

Finally, clean your work area and remove anything that is not related to this project.  This will help things flow easily.  In addition, make sure you have cleaned any other bowls, molds, or spoons you will be using.  I also suggest wearing an apron and protective gear.  It isn’t like baking soda is harmful, it just likes to float in the air when you are preparing it for your bath bombs.

Sugar Plum Bath Fizzies Recipe: Preparing the Dry Ingredients

When creating a bath fizzy, we always prepare our dry ingredients separately from our wet ingredients.  This will allow us to remove any clumps in these ingredients.  So, first, we will go ahead and get this ready.

Next, we will need to mix everything together.  I find it easiest to mix bath bombs with my hands.  So, put clean gloves on and begin mixing the ingredient together.  You will need to make sure that your colorant is evenly and completely mixed.

Once you have your ingredients fully combined, we will begin adding some witch hazel.  You will need the bottle of witch hazel you prepared earlier.  Witch hazel will help the bath bomb stay together so that you can pack it into your molds.  Now, begin by spritzing your bath bomb mixture.  Then, mix the ingredients together.  Continue to spray and mix until your bath bomb dough reaches a crumbly dough consistency.  Once you have achieved the correct consistency, you are ready to begin filling your molds.

Now, we will be adding the mixture to the molds.  So, make sure your molds are within arms reach.  Then, begin filling one half of one of your molds.  You want to pack the mixture in tightly.  Then, continue to pack the molds until you run out of bath fizzy mixture.

Next, we will be putting the bath bombs halves together.  So, you will need two bath bomb halves.  Spray each half with witch hazel and quickly press the two halves together.  Then, do the same with two more halves.  Continue this process until you have all the bath fizzies together.  Allow your bath bombs to setup.

Now, we will be adding some sparkling finishing touches.  We will achieve a sparkly sugar look by dusting our bath bombs with diamond dust.  So, you will need to remove the bath bombs from the molds.  Then, place one of your bath bombs in a clean, dry bowl.  Next, sprinkle it all over with diamond dust mica pigment.  Finally, shake the bath fizzy to remove any extra mica. You want to completely cover your bath bombs with mica so that they are super sparkly.  In addition, these bath bombs will leave a super awesome sparkle to your skin when used in your bathtub.

How Do Our Customers Use Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil?

Dazzle your customers by incorporating Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil into your product line.  Set the mood with a warm, vibrant aroma.  Room scenters can incorporate up to 50% of this fragrance oil in projects like reed diffusers, incense, and potpourri.  This fragrance oil is also strong in aroma beads.  Homemade candle crafters can use Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil up to 10% with vegetable waxes and paraffin wax.  This scent will perform perfectly in Joy Wax, Wow Wax, and is nice and strong in soy waxes.  If you wish to color your candles, we would recommend three drops of purple and a small amount of red liquid candle dye per 4 pounds of wax.  You can also color your melted wax with a small amount of purple and red color blocks.  Do not use crayons to color your candles as they will clog your wick.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil can also be used in your bath and body products.  Bath gels and oils were found to perform well when the recommended maximum of 5% fragrance oil is incorporated.  If you are making cold process soap, you may use this fragrance up to 5% of your total recipe.  Our Cold Process Soap Testing Results show that this fragrance oil had a very strong scent retention and discolored to a light beige.  There was no separation, no ricing, and no acceleration. We would recommend using purple and red soap colorant in the amount that satisfies you if you choose to color your bath and body products.  Remember not to use candle dye in any of your bath and body products as they are not body safe.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Fragrance Oil is a mesmerizing scent that can be used in many types of products.  Homemade perfumes perform well when a maximum of 1.74% fragrance oil is used.  Homemade lotions adhere to a 1.74% fragrance oil maximum.  Homemade cleaning supplies can also be created with a maximum fragrance usage of 5%.
