What is Spinach Powder Used for? Growing ConditionsWhat is Spinach Powder Used for? Growing Conditions

Spinach plants prefer to grow in cooler temperatures. For common spinach, you will want to plant in midsummer. If you have a mild winter, you could even plant in the fall. However, this depends on your climate. Either way, the soil should not be over 70 degrees Fahrenheit for your seeds. However, your spinach is able to survive all the way down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Once your spinach sprouts are about two inches high, you should thin them to be about three inches apart. After this, all you have to do is water regularly and use mulch to keep them moist. You can harvest the leaves whenever they are big enough, but you should try to cut the outer leaves first. This will ensure that the middle leaves can continue to grow.

One wonderful tip for reducing damage due to leaf miners is to plant radishes. The radishes will not only distract the pests from your spinach, but the roots will continue to grow unaffected! While starting sprouts inside and transplanting them will be less appealing to pests like cutworms, there are other preventative measures you can take. For wireworms, can try to plant carrots nearby to trap these pests. Then, every few days after the carrot has reached maturity you can pull up the carrots, remove the worms, and replant the affected carrot. For flea beetles, you can try to lay reflective mulch or aluminum to ward them off. Also, there are baits, traps, and pesticides that you can get for your home garden for many kinds of major infestations.

What is Spinach Powder Used for?: Tips for Making Your Spinach Last

Here are a few tips on how to store your leafy, food grade spinach. First, you will want to pick out yellow and wilted leaves. Plus, you shouldn’t store things like, tomatoes, apples, or melons nearby, because the spinach is sensitive to the chemicals that these fruits produce. Also, make sure that you don’t wash your spinach before storing and you will want to add a paper towel to your container. These will both help keep the moisture levels down and prevent premature wilting.

While this will help you keep your spinach fresh longer, you don’t want to have to store spinach long. Studies on folate in spinach have shown that about half of this vitamin’s amount was gone after seven days. If you have a lot of spinach grown, then you can try freezing to extend your storage time to about two or three months. Further, this herbal grass could benefit from nitrogen fertilization. While salty soils are tolerated well, a pH below 5 won’t be tolerated and can prevent healthy growth. Barley Grass Powder Benefits: Growing Barley Grass at Home

Since this nutritious grass would make a perfect addition to health food, it could be useful to grow it at home. This way you’ll have a fresh supply! It is suggested that you soak your seeds in water for 8-12 hours. Then, rinse your seeds and change the water to soak again for 8-12 hours. You will need to repeat this last step about 4-5 times until they sprout tiny roots. You can use a bowl of water or you can use a Sprouter to soak the seeds. After, you can evenly spread your sprouts in a moist medium. Also, it is okay to slightly overlap your seeds to increase density of your barley grass. After, cover the top of your tray with an upside down tray to minimize light. You will need to lightly water once or twice a day to ensure that the roots bury themselves.

After, the sprouts get a bit older you can remove the cover. But, make sure to keep the soil moist and make sure that the water can drain. Also, direct sunlight would be a good idea for nice, healthy plant growth. Once your grass is about six or so inches tall, you can harvest your grass. Although you can technically harvest earlier if you are ready to use the barley grass, the timing is all about your yield. But, remember that most of the grass’s nutrients occurs in the young sprouts. So, you will want to harvest before they grow too big. After you are ready to use your herb you can cut the grass and blend it into a smoothie or other health food.

You will love all the ways that you can use this bright citrus herb in your life. Lemon Peel Benefits: Growing ConditionsLemon Peel Benefits: Growing Conditions

Lemon trees require a warm climate and are quite sensitive to the cold. The tree will become inactive below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the fruit dies after being exposed to lower than 28 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes. So, they will need protection from frost, which can be helped by ensuring that your tree has enough water. Additionally, lemon trees should be provided with full sunlight. While these trees are temperature sensitive, they are able to tolerate many different types of soils. However, these trees will prefer soil that is slightly acidic and well-draining. Further, you should plant your tree in a hole that is slightly shorter than the root ball. Then, replace the dirt and tamp firmly.

For those in the United States, anyone that doesn’t live in a climate like Florida or California may want to plant your lemon tree indoors. As long as the pot is fairly large and the soil is well draining, the tree should be comfortable as an indoor plant. However, a typical lemon tree has the potential to grow to be 20 feet tall, so you will likely want to prune your tree as it gets too large.

However, the lemons require hot summers to develop the fruit. So, it may be less likely for an indoor tree to produce fruit if you don’t bring your plant outside in the summer. Luckily, there are dwarf lemon tree options, like the Meyer lemon, that are more likely to bear fruit. Since your plant will be inside, it is unlikely that pollinators, like bees, butterflies, and other bugs, can get to your plant. Instead, you can use a paintbrush or cotton swab to rub pollen within the flower. This increase your chance of fruit and lead to a better harvest.

Orange Peel Benefits: Growing ConditionsOrange Peel Benefits: Growing Conditions

If you want to grow an orange tree, then you will want to learn a bit about how to care for them. First, you may want to consider getting a tree from a nursery rather than starting from scratch. If you start from a seed, it can take the tree up to 15 years to produce any fruit. Instead, gardeners will employ a grafting technique that will take from a grown tree, so you won’t have to wait as long for your fruit. Also, an orange tree needs full sun and prefers subtropical climates. In the US this tree thrives in zones 9-11, which you can find on the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. Additionally, these plants enjoy soil that drains, but holds moisture. So, a deep and loamy soil with a pH around 6 or 7 would be best for your orange tree.

Once your tree has been planted, you will want to water thoroughly to prevent your tree from drying out. After a few weeks to about a month, you can begin to slowly decrease the amount of watering to once a week. Just make sure that you water very regularly in the spring to support your tree’s growth and avoid the possibility of the root ball drying out. Generally, it is thought that growing orange trees need about 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week. Additionally, you won’t need to prune your tree too much. Just rid yourself of any dead branches or any branches that are too close to the ground.
