Make Preparations for the Apple Dumpling Candle Tutorial

Before you start, you are going to want to make preparations for the Apple Dumpling Candle Tutorial. First of all, you will need to gather your candle making supplies for this diy candle recipe. Also, you will want to clean all of the candle making equipment that you will need for this scented candle recipe. Of course, these supplies are listed above. Finally, you will need to clean up your work space to give yourself some room to create your own scented candle!

Prepare a Double Boiler to Melt the Candle WaxPrepare a Double Boiler to Melt the Candle Wax

One last preparation that you are going to want to do is create a double boiler for the melting candle wax. This double boiler will protect your candle wax from heating too quickly and potentially scorching. In order to create a double boiler, you will need both a pouring pot and a regular stove-top pot that you use only for craft making. You fill the stove-top pot with a few inches of water. Once you fill the pot with water, you will need to place it on the burner. You are going to need to heat the water. When you are ready to melt the wax for this recipe, you will put the candle wax in the pouring pot.  The pouring pot will then be placed in the pot containing the hot water

Melting the Pillar of Bliss Wax for the Candle RecipeMelting the Pillar of Bliss Wax for the Candle Recipe

Now that your double boiler is ready to use, you can prepare and melt the candle wax for this recipe. So, you will need to weigh out 120 grams of the Pillar of Bliss Candle Wax. Then, you will want to add the candle wax to the pouring pot. Now, melt the wax. You will want to occasionally stir the wax, but you can use the double boiler device to more safely heat your wax. After this pillar candle wax has been melted completely, you are ready to move on to the next step in the process.

Adding the Caramel Candle ColorantAdding the Caramel Candle Colorant

Once all of your candle wax has completely melted, you are ready to add the caramel candle colorant. Now, you are going to be adding just a small amount of a caramel color block to your candle wax. You are going to want to make sure that the candle wax has the color of an actual caramel candy, but you should not need to use more than a gram of the candle colorant. As you can see in the picture, you will not need much of the block.  After adding a portion of the caramel color block, you will want to stir to incorporate the color fully into the melted wax.

Testing the Candle Wax ColorTesting the Candle Wax Color

Instead of moving on without knowing whether you have the right color, you are going to be testing the candle wax color to determine whether you need to add more. Of course, you will need to mix everything together when you add more of the candle colorant. Since the color of your wax will lighten as it sets up, it can be useful to let a small drop set up on a paper plate before you move on. This will allow you to see the true color that you will end up with if you stick with that amount of colorant. Of course, you can continue to add more of the color block until you reach the hue that you would like. You can continue to use tiny amounts to test your colorant until you get a nice caramel color.

Scenting the Apple Dumpling CandleScenting the Apple Dumpling Candle

Next, you are going to be ready to add the apple dumpling scented oil to your melted wax. So, you are going to need to weigh out and add 12 grams of the Apple Dumpling fragrance oil to your melted wax. This will provide your homemade candles with a fantastic aroma that is absolutely delicious! This scented oil begins with top notes of red candy apples, and pears.  Then, this aroma will continue with middle notes of nutmeg, clove, cardamom and freshly ground cinnamon bark. Finally, this bakery scent rests on base notes of dry notes vanilla and hazelnut. So, you can include this scent in your diy candle recipes to provide a perfect room scent for your home.

Creating Embeds for the Apple Dumpling Candle RecipeCreating Embeds for the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe

Now you are going to be creating the embeds for this homemade candle recipe. So, you will need to pour your caramel colored wax into the silicone four loaf mold. Alternatively, you can pour this wax onto a piece of wax paper in a baking pan. You will want to allow the wax to set up, but it should still be warm to the touch.

Cut the Embeds for the Apple Dumpling Candle FormulationCut the Embeds for the Apple Dumpling Candle Formulation

Then, you are going to cut the embeds for the Apple Dumpling Candle Formulation. So, you will need to retrieve the caramel colored wax, which should be about set up but still warm to touch. You are going to need to use a knife to cut the caramel colored wax into square pieces. The goal here is to make these embeds look like real caramel candies. After you have created your wax chunks, you can set these caramel pieces aside for a later step.

Melting the Joy Wax for the Apple Dumpling Candle RecipeMelting the Joy Wax for the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe

Next, you are going to be melting the Joy Wax for this candle recipe. You will need to weigh out 300 grams this Natures Garden wholesale candle wax. Then, you will add the weighed Joy Wax to the pouring pot that is in your double boiler. While the double boiler will help to prevent scorching, you will want to occasionally stir as the Joy Wax is melting. Once everything has completely melted, you are ready for the next step in the process.

Adding the Cream Color Block

Now that all the candle wax has melted, you are going to be adding the cream color block to your wax. Again, you will want to use less than a gram of the color block. But, this time, you are going to try to have your wax resemble the middle part of an apple. Once your wax is similar to the center of an apple and all of the colorant has melted, you’re ready for the next step.

Scenting the Melted Joy WaxScenting the Melted Joy Wax

Once your wax has been colored you are ready to scent the melted Joy Wax. So, you are going to weigh out 30 grams of the Apple Dumpling Fragrance Oil. Then, add this scent to your candle wax. You will want to stir to incorporate the scent completely before moving to the next step.

Prepare the Candle Wicks for the Apple Dumpling Candle RecipePrepare the Candle Wicks for the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe

Next, you are going to want to prepare the candle wicks for the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe. You will need your hot glue gun and a stick of hot glue. Now, plug in your glue gun and let it warm up. Once you are ready to use your hot glue, you are going to need to gather two of the CD Candle Wicks for this candle recipe.

Adding the Candle Wicks to Your JarsAdding the Candle Wicks to Your Jars

At this time, you are going be adding the candle wicks to your jars. You will need to move quickly to place the wick before the glue cools. After adding the glue, you will place your wick in the jar and press them into place. Before pushing down your wicks you will want to make sure that they are centered and evenly spaced in the jar. Once both wicks are secured well in the bottom of the jar, you will want to straighten up the wicks. Then, you can move on to the next step in the process.

Filling the Jars for the Apple Dumpling Candle Tutorial

At this point, you are ready to begin filling up the jars for the apple dumpling candle tutorial. Since you are working with Joy Wax, you will want to pour your wax at about 165 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Once your candle wax has reached this temperature, you can fill your candle with this caramel colored candle wax. Immediately after pouring your candle wax you are going to add your chunks of caramel colored cubes gently into the jar. Be sure to keep your wicks straight as you add the wax cubes.

Let the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe Set UpLet the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe Set Up

Now that your candle jars are filled up, you are going to need to let the candle set up. You can use a skewer or a pencil to hold your candle wicks in the right place. You can wrap your wicks around the skewer/pencil. Then, you are going to leave your candle recipe to let your candle recipe set up completely.

Use the Finished Apple Dumpling Candle RecipeUse the Finished Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe

Finally, you are finished with the Apple Dumpling Candle Recipe! This candle making recipe will allow you to create one candle. At this point, you are nearly ready to use your candle recipe. Of course, you are going to need to wait to let your candle cure to ensure that you have the best candle scent possible! Once you are ready to burn your candle, you can trim the wicks and light them. IMG_0194Shadowing Natures Garden

The past couple of weeks we have had two high school seniors shadowing Natures Garden.  These two wonderful ladies, Kacie and Caitlyn, have been an absolute blast! We’re very sad to see them go but their time here was definitely well spent. Not only did they get the opportunity to see how we operate at Natures Garden, but they made some pretty cool projects along the way. Now, I’d like to share some of what these lovely girls have been working on during the past couple weeks.

Prior to starting any projects we needed to know what types of fragrance oils the girls liked most. This way we could have them making all sorts of projects with their favorite scents! Therefore, we had them go to the fragrance bar, which is located in the Natures Garden store, to smell all sorts of our delightful fragrance oils. After smelling everything that they could, Kacie and Caitlyn each picked out ten of their favorite scents. They also picked out some of their favorite recipes from our recipe box. Finally we could begin on the real fun, turning these fragrances into your very own soaps, candles, or anything else you can imagine.IMG_0153fragrance-barIMG_0154

The first project the girls tried out was the Hydrangea Candle Recipe. They used one of their shared favorite scents, Blue Raspberry Slushie Fragrance Oil, and they both turned out great. Not only was their first project a complete success, but we were all pretty impressed with these candles and their colors choices.

Another beautiful creation was done using the Easter Confetti Soap Recipe. This fairly simple melt and pour recipe turned out to be a very lovely loaf. Not only did their soap loaves look fantastic but the Pink Orchid and Amber Fragrance Oil had their bars smelling amazing as well.confetti-soap1confetti-soap

One recipe that the girls were especially excited for was bath bombs. These bath time delights were made using, one of Kacie’s favorite fragrances, County Apple Fragrance Oil. Although the girls used the Orange Dreamsickle Bath Bomb Recipe, they gave it a slight twist by adding pink!bath-bombs2bath-bombbath-bombs-3

Next, the girls even learned how to make their own soap from scratch! They did an awesome in the pot swirl using the World Peace Cold Process Soap Recipe. The colors were vibrant and amazing just like the scent that was used, Fruity Rings Fragrance Oil.

Another method they learned in soap making was how to do hot process soap. The Purrs and Paws HP Soap Recipe was used to create these loaves and NG Aqua Di Gio Type Fragrance Oil was added as well. The loaves had glitter added and turned out to be quite pretty.

Also, the girls helped create a couple new recipes that will be coming soon! The first recipe is a melt and pour soap recipe that we really hope you’ll enjoy. The second recipe is new a lotion recipe that we are very excited to share with you.

It was great to have Kacie and Caitlyn working with us on all of these fun projects. It seems that these ladies got everything that they needed out of shadowing Natures Garden and have a better understanding of Nature’s Garden and what goes on here. They are both very funny and wonderful girls and we hope that they come back to visit us in the future! We would like to wish them the best of luck as they graduate from high school and prepare for college.  It truly was a pleasure to work with the two of you!

Valentines-Day-Cupcake-CandleWith Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what could possibly be better than a Valentines Day Cupcake Candle?!?!  We had a blast creating this cinnamon scented candle…complete with SPRINKLES!!!  It is both adorable and smells amazing!  So if you are looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day project, you may have just found it!  So go ahead and get the below ingredients ready.  Once you’re ready, let’s get started on this simple and fantastic candle recipe!

230 grams Pillar of Bliss

140 grams Joy Wax

37 grams Cinnamon Yum Yums Fragrance Oil

1 Red Color Block

3 Votive Wick Pins

3 CD 10 Wicks

Silicone Heart Cupcake Molds

Embed Mold- Love Hearts

Pouring Pot

To start, weigh and melt 230 grams of our Pillar of Bliss Wax, using the double boiler method.  You will want to melt the wax to 195 degrees.  The wax will take a bit to melt.  While it melts, let’s go ahead and prepare our molds.  You are going to need 3 of the Silicone Heart Cupcake Molds and 3 of our votive wick pins.  Place one wick pin in the center of each silicone mold.

Add a bit of your red color block to the wax.  We found that we only needed a couple shavings to get a light pink for our cupcake candle base.

Now, let’s add our fragrance.  You will need to stir into your wax 23 grams of Cinnamon Yum Yums scent.  Make sure you stir it very well so the fragrance mixes thoroughly with the wax.

Next we can go ahead and start filling the molds with the melted wax.  Be sure to fill each mold to the top.

making-embedsAs you can now see, you will have a little bit of the Pillar of Bliss Wax left over.  We will need this wax for our embeds.  Before pouring the embeds, add a little bit more of the red color block.  We simply added a couple more shavings. You will only need to fill three of the cavities of the Love Hearts embed mold.  Make sure you pour at a low temperature since this is a plastic mold.  For now you can set these aside and allow them to setup.  We will use them in a bit.

Let’s go ahead and start preparing our frosting.  Use a double boiler to melt 140 grams of our wonderful Joy Wax.  Allow it to melt to 200 degrees, then allow the temperature to drop to 175 degrees, and add 14 grams of our Cinnamon Yums Yums Fragrance Oil.  Be sure to stir that fragrance oil in very well.

Now comes the fun part!  Remove the silcone heart cupcake mold and…LETS DECORATE!!!!  Add sprinkles to the top of each heart candle and one heart embed to each Valentines Day Cupcake Candle.  We will need to continuously stir, stir, stir that wax until it cools and looks like frosting. Once you have a nice and thick frosting, start placing it on top of your heart cupcake base.  You want you frosting go up to the height of the wick pin.  Just be careful not to cover the wick pin completely.

Finally, just let them setup.  Then, remove the wick pins and thread one CD 10 to each candle.  Trim the wicks back before you burn them.  You need them to be about ¼ inch.

We hope you loved making the Valentines Day Cupcake Candle as much as we did!  Enjoy your Valentine’s Day and your fabulously scented cinnamon candle!  Make sure you check back for more fragrance fun!  Also, check our recipe box that is packed full of recipes and classes!
