The Natures Garden fragrance oil of the month for February 2020 is Orange Juice Cake! To showcase this delicious homemade pastry scent, we created a few new recipes using it. We will be writing and sharing blogs on each of them! The first one we would like to introduce is this Orange Juice Cake Bubble Bars Recipe. These turned out beautifully, looking like a mini version of actual orange juice cake! This cake is an original recipe coming from the Natures Garden owner’s family! It is scrumptious, moist, and bursting with fresh flavors. We designed this fragrance oil to emulate this cake perfectly. Our recipe for this bubble bar is going to make your skin feel incredibly soft, as well as creating a ton of foam and bubbles for your baths. They are made using a surfactant that we just recently brought to the website, SLSA. You are going to love how this product feels and how it smells too! We can’t wait to share each of these new recipes with all of you.

Clean and sanitize your workstation along with all of your utensils. There are many dry ingredients involved with this recipe, which can create clouds of powder in the air. Therefore, it is suggested by us that you wear gloves, an apron, a face mask, and a hair net while when preparing this. Also, you will want to prepare your bottle of rubbing alcohol that will be used in one of the last steps.

To begin, you are going to need a couple of mixing bowls and a digital scale for weighing. We will be measuring and working with the dry ingredients in the recipe first. Take out a larger mixing bowl for this portion. First, we are going to weigh out 330 grams of the SLSA. This product is very important in this recipe. SLSA is a surfactant that is a great foaming agent for products like bubble bars, shampoo bars, and bath bombs. It helps your skin to feel extra soft after use and creates so many bubbles for the bath. Next, add to the same bowl 460 grams of the baking soda, 224 grams of the cream of tartar, and 72 grams of the corn starch. Mix all of these powder ingredients together well, using your hands.

Break Up the ClumpsBreak Up the Clumps

We use our hands in the mixture to help break up any clumps of powder we might find. Baking soda tends to be very clumpy, and it is important to break all of these up. Otherwise, your bubble bars will not be mixed as thoroughly and there might be bits of powder in the mixture, which you do not want for your finished product.

Set the dry ingredients bowl to the side. Now, place a separate mixing bowl on the scale. You need to weigh out 200 grams of the vegetable glycerin, 24 grams of the fractionated coconut oil, and 14 grams of the Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. We chose fractionated coconut oil as our carrier oil due to the properties it has. This oil contributes to the hardness, cleansing, and bubbly lather in cosmetic products. Each one of these qualities is desirable in bubble bars, which you want to create a lot of bubbles in the bath and cleanse the skin at the same time. Our Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil is a combination of pound cake, orange zests, vanilla, caramel, and coconut. This scent is original to Natures Garden and one of our best sellers!

For the next step, we are going to add the bowl with the wet ingredients to the bowl containing all of the powdered ingredients. Then, you can start mixing them together with your hands. We used our hands because using a spoon may cause the powders to get released into the air and we could lose some of our product, which we do not want to happen.

Forming the DoughForming the Dough

Continue to thoroughly mix the ingredients together. You want to keep going until it reaches the consistency of dough. It may take some time working with it before it reaches this point. Remember to lift and fold the mixture continuously to get the powders at the bottom of the bowl fully incorporated into the rest of it.

Creating the Brown ColorantCreating the Brown Colorant

Next, you will need to get out a small bowl. We are going to be hand making the brown colorant portion of this batter. This step is similar to mixing a facial mask. In your small bowl, weigh out 4 grams of cocoa powder organic. To this, add 20 grams of vegetable glycerin. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly, until there are no longer any clumps from the cocoa powder. Spoon this mixture into the dough batter.

After you have added in the cocoa powder mixture, fully incorporate it into the dough. Evenly fold over the batter repeatedly until you no longer see clumps of brown throughout it. This is just one of the colorants we will be adding to these bubble bars!

Once the brown colorant has been fully mixed in, we can move onto the other colors we need. Natures Garden carries multiple FUN Soap Colorants that offer vibrant shades to give color to your soap and body products. For this recipe, we used the shades Orange Oxide, Yellow Oxide, and Black Oxide. Add in 15 drops of the orange, 5 drops of the yellow, and 2 drops of the black. We added these one at a time to see what shade we would be getting, and we were satisfied with our result. This combination gives a nice color to the dough that resembles the look of actual orange juice cake.

Incorporate the Colorants TogetherIncorporate the Colorants Together

After each color is added, we are once again going to use our hands to mix everything together. Continue to knead the dough, especially at the bottom, until the color is evenly dispersed throughout it. An important thing to remember is if the bubble bar dough is too crumbly, you can always add a bit more vegetable glycerin to help. We did not end up having to do this for this recipe, but depending on how your ingredients were measured, you may need to. However, make sure not to add too much vegetable glycerin, or your dough will become too wet and the product will not set up properly. 

Pack the Soap MoldPack the Soap Mold

Now we are all finished with the dough! Take out the silicone bundt cake soap mold and pack the bubble bar dough tightly into it. There should be enough batter to fill all four of the bundt cake cavities. You want to pack it in tightly so that your product is cohesive and sets up together. Allow your bubble bars to set up. You will know they are ready once they have hardened. It took ours approximately 24-48 hours to set up completely. However, it can take longer depending on the climate of your environment.

Once the bubble bars have had enough time to finish setting up, you can go ahead and pop them out of their molds. Make sure that you have waited enough time before this step. If not, the bubble bars may crack and crumble instead of remaining in one piece. We removed ours onto a silicone mat to prepare for the next few steps, which can get messy.

Now, we are going to prepare the icing for our bundt cake bubble bars! You will need to take 5 cubes from a slab of one of our white melt and pour soap bases. We decided to use Shea Butter, but any of the white colored bases will work fine to resemble icing. Slice the cubes up into smaller pieces and place them in a microwave safe bowl. Then, melt them in the microwave in 30 second intervals until the soap is fully melted.

After it is melted, add to it 6 grams of Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. We also want to match that with 6 grams of Vanilla White Color Stabilizer. This is because some fragrance oils can cause discoloration to soap and we need ours to stay white in order for it to look like icing. Once those two are added, stir to incorporate everything.

Carefully, drizzle the melted soap over your bundt cake bubble bars. Pour it gently and in a back and forth motion, as you would ice cinnamon rolls. Then, grab your bottle of rubbing alcohol that you prepared at the beginning of this recipe. Spray the bubble bars with the melted soap on them with the rubbing alcohol. This will help out for the last step.

Top the Bubble Bars OffTop the Bubble Bars Off

The final step in the recipe is to top our bubble bars off with “nuts”. We needed to spray the icing with rubbing alcohol in order to get these to stick. Take orange peel, cut and sifted, and sprinkle it on top of the bubble bars. This step helps complete the look of authentic orange juice cake. Allow some time for everything to dry before moving them. Once they are finished drying, you have completed this fun project!

Your Orange Juice Cake Bubble Bars are now ready to be used! When you want to put the bubble bars to use, all you have to do is simply crumble up some pieces from one of them. Place these under your warm running bath water and see the wonderful bubbly lather these create! We hope you enjoyed following along with us to make these!

Ingredients Spotlight: SLSA

Before getting into the recipe, we wanted to give you some more information about some of the ingredients that we are going to be working with. The first one that we will be talking about is Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, which can be abbreviated as SLSA. This is a new product that we recently brought to Natures Garden Wholesale Supplies. It is a surfactant that can be used as an alternative to other surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Cocoyl Isentionate (SCI). These Sangria Scoopable Bubble Bars are one of the three different recipes we created to showcase this new product. When compared to other surfactants like these, SLSA provides a lot more of foaming and lathering qualities to different types of bath and body products. It is most commonly added to recipes like bubble bars, bath bombs, bubble baths, and also body and facial washes. Since it derives from coconut oil and palm oil, SLSA is very cleansing and moisturizing for the skin. We are excited for you all to try this new ingredient out in your upcoming recipes!

We will be sharing all three of the recipes that we made using SLSA for, all in separate blogs. The other ones are a sangria body scrub, pink sangria soap, and sangria bath bombs. We hope that you will enjoy working with this new surfactant as much as we did.

Ingredients Spotlight: Jojoba OilIngredients Spotlight: Jojoba Oil

The next ingredient that we want to tell you about is Jojoba oil. It is used in countless types of recipes, including cold process soap, lip balm, lip stick, emulsified scrubs, and bath bombs. This oil is extremely versatile because of the positive benefits it brings to different body products and cosmetic formulations. Jojoba oil has anti inflammatory and moisturizing properties in it that reduce redness, dry skin, and other sensitive skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea. There are a lot of benefits to using it, it is an easy oil to work with, as well as to create recipes with. In addition to this one, we have used it in an Activated Charcoal Scrub, a Honey Vanilla Lip Balm, and our Sandalwood Bath Bomb. Each of these is cleansing, moisturizing, and will make you and your skin feel nice and rejuvenated!

Lastly, we wanted to talk about the fragrance oil that we are incorporating and highlighting in today’s recipe. We call this Sangria Punch, which is actually one of the many Natures Garden original fragrance oils. Sangria punch fragrance oil is a complex scent, starting with very fruity top notes that to us, truly resemble a homemade sangria. There are hints of apple, lemon, lime, orange and grape. Following that are the scents of blackberries and pomegranate, which really compliment one another. These fruity notes sit on a base of sugar. We think that this fragrance definitely captures the smell of real sangria and makes for a great scent to add to girly bath product recipes. We have used this fragrance oil in four products that we have made using. Once again, the other craft recipes we created are the Pink Sangria Soap Recipe, Sangria Bath Bombs Recipe, and the Sparkling Sangria Body Scrub Recipe.

Before we get started, it is important to clean and sanitize your work area and all of your packaging materials. It is suggested that you wear gloves, an apron, gloves, a face mask, and a hair net while preparing this recipe.

Mixing the Dry IngredientsMixing the Dry Ingredients

For the first part of this recipe, we will be preparing the dry portion of our ingredients. You will want to get out a regular mixing bowl that is only used for soap making, candle making, etc. Then, you can take out your scale and weigh out the 205 grams of Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate we will need. Add it to your mixing bowl. Next, we will measure out and add to the same bowl 230 grams of Baking Soda, 112 grams of Cream of Tartar, and 36 grams of Corn Starch. The powders from these can really kick up in the air, so make sure that you are wearing a mask. Mix each of these ingredients together until the dry mixture is smooth. We find it easier to break up all of the clumps in the mixture when we use our hands instead of using a spoon or a spatula.

Next, take out a second mixing bowl. Get the scale out once again and weigh out all of the liquid ingredients for this recipe. First, weigh out 100 grams of the vegetable glycerin. Then, measure out and add to the same bowl 12 grams of jojoba oil, 5 grams of vitamin E oil, and 7 grams of the Sangria Punch Fragrance Oil. Blend them all together seamlessly. The vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil, and vitamin E oil all provide benefits for the skin, which make them perfect for this and other bubble bar recipes. Vegetable glycerin gives you moisturized and resilient skin, and jojoba oil and vitamin E oil will reduce skin irritation, moisturize, as well as minimize the appearance of scars and wrinkles.

Then, pour your wet ingredients into the mixing bowl that contains the dry ingredients. Our next step is to create the fun pink color for these sangria bubble bars. You are going to add three drops of the tomato red FUN Soap Colorant. This small amount will give you the light pink color that we are looking for and which you can see in the recipe picture. Add more of the colorant if you prefer a more deeper pink shade or red shade for your bubble scoops. Using your hands, mix all of the ingredients together. Once mixed thoroughly, it will morph into the consistency of dough.

Once your wet and dry ingredients have been mixed together to form the dough. We used our hands to squeeze the dough and form it into a big ball. Keep on repeating the process of squeezing and rolling until you are sure the pink color is visible everywhere and there are no uncolored white parts left. Doing this will make the next step easier, when we pack the dough and create the actual bubble bar scoops.

Now, we get to do the fun part of the recipe! Make sure to have your flexible silicone mat ready for this step. The dough should already be in your mixing bowl. Using your hands, start by pressing down and packing the bubble bar dough tightly in the mixing bowl. This is going to make it easier when using the ice cream scoop. Now that the dough is ready to be scooped, use your stainless steel ice cream scoop to form the bubble bars. As you scoop, place each of them on your flexible silicone mat. This is the easiest place for them to have the time they need to set up without getting in the way of other projects.

To finish off the bubble bar scoops, take out the diamond dust mica pigment. Sprinkle it all over your bubble bars to decorate them a little bit. We love working both with the 24K gold mica pigment and the diamond dust mica pigment because when a little glitter is added, projects come to life! Finally, set the silicone mat aside on a countertop to allow your sangria sparkle bubble bars to set up. If completely undisturbed, they should harden enough and be fully set up after 24-48 hours.

She chose to use sauvignon blanc in her sangria, but the choice is yours when it comes to the wine you want to add. There are many sangria recipes out there for both red and white wine! Before we begin preparing our pumpkin roll bubble bars project, let’s take a closer look at the fragrance oil that we will be using. Pumpkin Roll Fragrance Oil by Natures Garden Candle and Soap Making Supplies brings the aroma of a fall favorite to life without the added calories.  The aroma of sweet sugar pumpkin puree is spiced with hints of spicy cinnamon and nutmeg. Then, notes of a warm, sweet-butter crust, drizzled with maple and honey are layered in.

Preparing the Dry IngredientsPreparing the Dry Ingredients

We will start this process by preparing our dry ingredients for making the Pumpkin Roll Bubble Bars. Lay all of your ingredients out on your workstation to allow easy access to them while working. In the deep mixing bowl, weigh your baking soda, sodium cocoyl isethionate, cream of tartar, and corn starch. So, place your bowl on your scale and be sure to tare out your scale.  Then, add the powdered ingredients to your bowl.

Use your hands to mix the ingredients for the bubble bar recipe together. Any clumps that are present in the powder should be broken down using your hands to ensure that the dry ingredients are clump free and smooth. 

Mixing the Wet Ingredients

In a second small bowl, weigh out and mix the wet ingredients that are going to be added to the mixture. After the wet ingredients are weighed, add the following wet ingredients to a mixing bowl: vegetable glycerin, pumpkin seed oil, Vanilla White Color Stabilizer, and Pumpkin Roll Fragrance Oil. When all the ingredients are properly added to the bowl, mix the wet ingredients together. When you’re finished blending the ingredients, you are ready to begin mixing the wet ingredients with the powdered ingredients.

The next step is to take the wet ingredients and add them to the same bowl containing the dry ingredients that you mixed. Put on your Nature’s Garden gloves, and mix the wet and dry bubble bar ingredients together using your hands. Keep mixing the ingredients in the deep bowl until you have a dough-like consistency that is slightly thicker than pizza dough.

Identify Correctly Mixed Dough

When you are finished mixing these ingredients, there are a few things you are looking for. If there are any lumps still present, keep mixing until you completely get rid of any lumps. If you come to notice that the dough is also too crumbly, then add some Nature’s Garden vegetable glycerin to the dough to ensure that it is smooth enough for rolling.  However, do not add too much to the doughy mixture otherwise it will not setup correctly and not harden completely.

Next, you will need a second deep mixing bowl. The dough in one of the bowls will remain white since this will be used as the internal filling to the Pumpkin Roll Bubble Bars Project. Take the bubble bar dough that you are going to leave white, roll it into a ball, and place it back into the bowl and leave it aside for later. Next, move over to the second bowl that contains the second lump of dough. The contents of the second bowl will be colored to resemble that of dough which will look like a lighter brown.

Following the ingredient amounts listed above, add the following ingredients to the dough in the second bowl: the pumpkin pie spice blend powder, FUN Soap Colorant orange oxide, FUN Soap Colorant yellow oxide, and the FUN Soap Colorant brown oxide. Then, using your hands, mix the bubble bar dough until the ingredients are completely blended. After you have fully incorporate the ingredients in the mixing bowl, roll the pumpkin colored dough into a ball.

Preparing the MatPreparing the Mat

Now is the time to start rolling out the pumpkin roll dough. First, you will need your flexible silicone mat. Another option would be to use parchment paper instead. I prefer the baking mat because it is reusable and a little thicker and sturdier. Take some baking soda and lightly sprinkle it over the mat and rolling pin. The baking soda will work to aid in preventing the dough from sticking to the mat. If the dough is too sticky, it will have the tendency to want to stick to a silicone mat or the rolling pin that are being used to roll the dough out.

First, make sure that the silicone mat is clean and dry. Then, take the pumpkin colored bubble bar dough, and place it on the flexible silicone mat. Take a rolling pin and roll the dough out into a rectangular shape. It doesn’t have to be a perfect rectangle. Just do your best to get it as close as you can. For the best look for your Pumpkin Roll Bubble Bars Project, make sure to roll the dough out to about a  ¼” thickness.

Next, take the white bubble bar dough ball and place it on top of the pumpkin colored dough. Sprinkle a little bit more baking soda onto the rolling pin. When the rolling pin is ready to use, roll out the white dough ball that you placed on top of the pumpkin colored dough layer. When you’re done rolling out the white dough layer, it should come out to be about that same thickness as the pumpkin colored dough layer at around ¼”. You also want it to be about the same shape and size as the pumpkin colored dough. Again, it does not need to be exact. You just want it to be as close to the previous layer as possible.

The next step is to roll the bubble bar dough into a loaf to look like a Pumpkin Roll.  The first step is to place the dough in front of you vertically. Take the edge of the parchment paper or silicone baking mat that is the closest to your body and lift up on it. You want to make sure you have a good grip on it. 

To roll a pumpkin roll, take the edge of the flat rectangular dough, and rolling it out over itself. Roll the dough into a cylinder to create a white swirl in the center of the roll. Take your time while rolling the dough to make sure that it doesn’t crack or tear in the process. Roll out the pumpkin roll evenly. This ensures that the entire Pumpkin Roll Bubble Bars Project looks its best.  Place the dough back onto the parchment paper.

When the pumpkin roll dough is rolled up to your desired look, take a knife and cut the roll into 1-2 inch slices or whichever thickness you prefer. Make sure the knife that you use to cut the bubble bar is clean of any excess residue. If you notice any debris on the knife, wipe it off before cutting the next slice. This should keep the pumpkin roll looking clean. The expected yield of this recipe is usually around 8 slices, but depending on how thick you ended up cutting the roll, it could vary by 1 or 2.  Finally, sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of corn starch onto the outside of the roll as to resemble powdered sugar.

Setting up and Decorating the Loaf

Once you have sliced your loaf, give the bubble bars time to set up. You can tell when the bubble bars are ready when they are hard to the tough.  When we made the bubble bars, it took them approximately 48-72 hours to setup completely. It can take longer for your results to setup depending on the environment of the room. Create these bubble bars in a dry room with low humidity, and at room temperature. This helps the bubble bars setup.

Using the Finished Pumpkin Roll

Your pumpkin roll bubble bars should now be ready to use. These bubble bars should make a great home decoration for the Halloween or Fall season. They are great to put out as a decoration in your bathroom next to the tub. You can also leave them on your sink countertop for decorations too.  To use the bubble bars, take one of the slices that you cut up, and crumble it under warm running bathwater. These bubble bars tend to give an inviting appearance to your bathtub, while also filling it up with bubble. In addition, they will leave your skin feeling soft and silky.  It’s a fun recipe for any age group, and anyone would enjoy soaking with this Nature’s Garden recipe.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Let’s talk About the Ingredients

Before starting on our recipe, we’ll talk about some of the ingredients we are using. The first ingredient is what gives the bubble bar its bubbles! Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, or SCI.  This gentle surfactant is derived from coconut. It is a foaming and cleansing agent that will leave your skin silky and smooth!

Baking soda is best know for it’s cleaning and deodorizing properties. This gentle alkaline is amazing at leaving the skin soft and smooth, as well as your hair too!

Cream of tartar will give your product a light and fluffy feeling. It acts as a stabilizer and helps the other ingredients adhere to each other.

Corn Starch is the perfect ingredient to help sooth irritated skin and it also leaves your skin soft! The fragrance we chose was our Cucumber Fragrance Oil. This is a popular seller here at Nature’s Garden. True cucumber scent with an undertone of violet.

  • 410 grams (2 cups) Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Prepping Your Supplies and Work Area

As with any recipe you should always prep your supplies and work area. This helps in creating your craft without stopping to look for your ingredients. First thing is to clean your work space and ensure that you have enough room to work and lay your dough down. Next, give your utensils and scale a quick clean with some soap and water. Lastly, have all your ingredients ready for measuring and withing easy reach! For sanitary reasons go ahead and put your rubber safety gloves on.  Just a few preventative steps will help things move along smoothly!

Our first step will be measuring and combining our dry ingredients. You will need a large mixing bowl and your scale. Set your scale to grams.  Next, weigh out 410 grams of Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, 460 grams of Sodium Bicarbonate- Baking Soda, 224 grams of Cream of Tartar, and 72 grams of Corn Starch. Give these ingredients a nice mixing with your hands, breaking up any clumps as you go.

Next comes the wet stuff! You will need another mixing bowl ( or you can simply add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredient bowl) and your gram scale. Now weigh out 200 grams of Vegetable Glycerin, 24 grams of Sesame Seed Oil and 14 grams of Cucumber Fragrance Oil.

 

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Mixing Everything Together

Let’s add the wet and dry ingredients together! If you have mixed your wet ingredients separately go ahead and dump them in with your dry. If you add your wet straight to the dry you can start mixing with your hands making sure that you are breaking up any lumps as you go. Mix until you have the right consistency (you should have a nice, smooth workable dough). If your dough is to crumbly after mixing together, you can add a bit more vegetable glycerin. Be careful to not add too much or the bubble bar will not set up properly.

The third step in our recipe will be separating the bubble bar dough. For this you will need your 2 mixing bowls. You will divide the dough into 2 equal portions. Each portion will be a different color. We have included a color chart to help you achieve the correct color for the spots and the “skin” of the giraffe.

Bowl 1:

  • Brown Oxide- 6 drops
  • Orange Oxide- 3 drops
  •  Black Oxide- 6 drops
  •  Red Oxide- 6 drops

Bowl 2:

  • Yellow Oxide- 3 drops

Now that your dough is separated, let’s start adding color.  We will work on the spots and inner color of the bubble bar. To the first bowl, add your 6 drops of Brown Oxide, 3 drops of Orange Oxide, 6 drops of Black Oxide and 6 drops of Red Oxide FUN Soap Colorant. With your gloved hands mix the colorant into your dough until you have achieved an orange brown color.  Roll the dough into a ball and set it aside, for now.

Next, let’s create the “skin” color of the giraffe. For this you will add 3 drops of Yellow Oxide FUN Soap colorant to your second bowl of dough. With clean gloved hands mix this colorant into your dough until you have a nice, pale yellow color.

Now that our dough is separated and colored, we are ready to start rolling the layers. For this step you will use your silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Dust whichever you have chosen to use with some baking soda. This will help keep the dough from sticking when it is time to roll the dough. You should also dust your rolling pin with some baking soda to help prevent sticking.

Our first layer will be the yellow layer. Go ahead and take your yellow dough ball and lay it in the center of the surface of your mat or paper. Now roll your ball into a flat, rectangular shape.  You will want this layer about 1/4 inch in thickness.

Next up is our Orange brown layer. Before you start rolling, however, you need to pull of about 30 grams of the dough and set this aside. This portion will be for the spots. Place the remaining dough in the center of the yellow rectangle dough and start rolling this layer out. You may add some baking soda to your rolling pin before you start to prevent sticking. Roll this layer out to the size or as close to the size of the yellow layer and at 1/4 inch thick. Once you have finished, you will be all set to move onto rolling the bubble bar dough into a loaf.

Now that your layers are rolled out, you are ready to roll them into a loaf. Turn your silicone mat or parchment paper so that the mat or paper is vertical. Lift up on the edge of the paper or mat that is closest to your body. Begin to carefully roll the dough in the same way you would a pumpkin roll. Slowly roll the dough evenly as you go, watching to make sure everything stays lined up.

Now that your dough is in its rolled up completely, we will begin using the orange brown colored dough we set aside to create our “spots”. Giraffe spots are not perfect in size and shape. This is the look you will want to go for. Pull off irregular size pieces of the reserved dough and add it to the yellow portion of your bubble bar. (Having trouble getting a good pattern in your head? Try Googling “giraffe” and find a pattern you can follow!)  Once your loaf is completely covered you will be ready to slice it up into individual bars.

Let’s cut this loaf into slices! This recipe will make about 8 slices, depending on how thick you choose to slice your loaf. Using a sharp knife, slice the bubble bar into 1-2 inch slices. Once your loaf is completely sliced, lay the portions out on a flat surface to set up. Our bubble bars took approximately 48-72 hours to set up completely. This may take longer, depending on the climate of your  environment.

Your Giraffe Bubble Bar is ready to use! When it’s bath time, simply crumble a slice of bar under warm, running bath water and enjoy the bubbles that will froth up into your tub and have a nice, long soak! You will emerge from your bath smelling sweet, fresh and feeling soft and clean!

Have you ever looked at the beauty of a giraffe? I mean, really watched them when you visit a zoo?  They are amazing creatures! Majestic in their movements, they roam the open grasslands in small groups. A giraffe’s height is both an advantage and a disadvantage. While towering at a height ranging from 14 to 18 feet tall they have the ability to spot predators. Their height helps them eat from the leaves of trees since the disadvantage in their height is bending down. It is incredibly difficult for them and it leaves them in a vulnerable state to be attacked.  Luckily, giraffes only need to drink once every several days since most of their water intake is from the leaves they consume. They can also run a steady 35 miles an hour over short distances and comfortably at 10 miles per hour over longer distances. 

Giraffes are truly beautiful animals and their eyelashes! They are to die for! Another fun giraffe fact is that a group of giraffes are called a tower! Kind of fitting, right? Towers usually consist of females and babies, however genders will vary and they can come and go as they please.

Before you start, we would like to suggest that you make a few preparations. A pair of gloves is recommended, as you will need to mix with your hands. An apron may be useful to protect your clothing.  Also, a hair net and face mask are recommended. Second, you are going to want to prepare all your ingredients and supplies for this recipe. This will ensure that the project runs smoothly and you have all the materials that you need. Finally, you should clean your work space and equipment to make sure that your recipe will be clean and free of dirt.

First, we are going to combine all of your dry ingredients into one of your mixing bowls. So, get a medium or large mixing bowl ready. Also, you will need a gram scale in order to measure these ingredients. Then, to your bow,l weigh out 460 grams of the Baking Soda, 410 grams of the Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, 224 grams of the Cream of Tartar, and 72 grams of the Corn Starch.

Next, you are going to mix these previously measured ingredients together. You will need to make sure that these dry ingredients are mixed together well before moving on to the next step. Now, you are going to weigh your wet ingredients. You can do this part of the recipe one of two ways. You could weigh your ingredients into a small bowl and transfer them into your large mixing bowl of dry ingredients. Alternatively, you can measure the wet ingredients into the same mixing bowl as your dry ingredients. Either way you will need to measure out 200 grams of the vegetable glycerin, 24 grams of the rice bran oil, and 14 grams of the Spring Rain Fragrance Oil.

Now that both your wet and dry ingredients have been measured into your large mixing bowl you are ready to mix. Use your clean, gloved hands to mix together all of your ingredients. It is important that you mix these together well because you will be dividing the dough into portions. So, you will want to make sure that each portion has about the same amount of the ingredients.

Next, you are going to be separating your mixed bubble bar dough into two equal portions. So, grab your two other mixing bowls. You will need to put half of your batch into each of the bowls. You can eyeball the amounts or measure them if your would prefer. But, you just need to make sure that there is about half in each bowl.

The white portion of your batch is very simple to prepare. The hardest part is making sure that this bowl contains about half of the total dough. After, you have divided up your batch just roll the uncolored bubble bar into a ball. You can leave this white bubble bar dough ball in this bowl until we are ready to roll out the layers. So, you can move on to preparing the other half of this recipe.

The second portion of the bubble bar dough is going to a bit more fun. While the first portion of this recipe was left uncolored, this section is going to be made a pretty shade of pink. Plus, this half of the bubble bar dough even uses Himalayan Pink Salt. This will create a pretty pink layer that would be wonderful for a diy salt soak. So, lets get started on creating the fun half of this bubble bar recipe!

Now, you are going to prepare the other half of your bubble bar dough. So, take this second half and add in three drops of the Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant. This amount is perfect for giving us a pretty shade of pink for this layer of the bubble bar. You will need to use your gloved hands to mix this color into the dough evenly. You will want to want sure that you don’t have any specks of dye left unincorporated.

Now that this portion is colored, you will need to finish up this half of the batch. First, you are going to add in the Himalayan Pink Salt to your dough. So, weigh out 10 grams of the fine ground pink salt. Make sure that you mix this ingredient into the dough very well. Once all of the fine pink salt has been incorporated you can roll the dough into a ball. Now, you are ready for the next step in the process.

You will want to go slowly as you roll and continue until all of the dough has been rolled into the loaf.

Once the bubble bar loaf has been created, you are ready to start decorating the top of your bath and body product. Part of the decorating will be done with Coarse Ground Himalayan Pink Salt. For this recipe you will use both the 24k Gold Mica Pigment and the Diamond Dust Mica Pigment. Liberally sprinkle the top of your loaf with each mica powder. After, use a craft brush to remove any excess mica. Dusting off the mica will make sure that your bars don’t have streaks of gold mica after you slice your bars.

Now you are ready to slice your bubble bar loaf into pieces! We suggest making each bar somewhere between one inch and two inches. This will make sure you have enough for each bath. Depending on the thickness you choose, you will have about eight individual bubble bars.

Once your slices have been made all you have to do is wait for your bars to set up. Based on how long our bubble bar took, it should take about 48-72 hours, or 2-3 days, for your bubble bars to completely set up. However, this can take longer depending on your climate. You will know that your bars are ready to use when they have hardened.
