Lavender Mint Bath Bomb RecipeLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe

It’s spring time! Well, kind of spring time. We had a couple of nice, warm days here in Ohio. What makes you think of spring? Some of our thoughts turn to spring planting. Others think of spring clothes or just looking forward to the bright colors of Mother Nature. I look forward to warmer weather, sunny days and the fresh smells from flowers and newly cut grass. However, at Nature’s Garden, our creative team starts to think of spring recipes and our Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe is a perfect example. With its soft pastel colors and fresh, crisp fragrance, this bath bomb will make you think and smell spring immediately!

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: The Ingredients

First off, before we get started, let’s talk about some of the ingredients we are using in this recipe. Most of your bath bombs use only two basic “bath bomb” ingredients. Baking Soda, Citric Acid. However, we added an extra ingredient into this recipe, Sodium Cocoyl Isethinate, or SCI. SCI is a gentle sufecant derived from coconut and it is used in a variety of cosmetic recipes. Sodium Cocoyl Isethioniate (SCI) gives your soaps, shampoo, bath bombs and bubble bars their bubble action. Most of all, bath bombs need some skin-nourishing oil added in! We chose Jojoba Oil. This oil has remarkable absorption and moisturizing qualities. This bath bomb is going to leave your skin feeling soft and silky after a nice, long soak in the tub!

Our fragrance oil inspiration is our Lavender Mint WOW.  Anybody in the bath and body business will know that lavender is a popular herb known for the soothing and calming effects it can have. Lavender, which is a very down to earth, natural fragrance, however, it can be a bit overwhelming by itself. With a touch of mint added in you have a wonderfully balanced fragrance that is bright yet subtle, crisp yet soft. This bath bomb is a perfect showcase for this fragrance oil. Lavender Mint WOW is an wonderful verdant scent of earthy lavender flowers and fresh peppermint and spearmint leaves! With soft colors of violet, green and white, this pretty, little bath bomb will be a perfect addition to your spring or summer bath and body line!

  • 1,120 grams Baking Soda
  • 18 grams Jojoba Oil
  • 16 grams Lavender Mint WOW Fragrance Oil
  • 7 grams Ultramarine Violet FUN Soap Colorant
  • 12 grams Kelly Green FUN Soap Colorant

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Prepare Your Work Space and Equipment

Before you begin creating you want to make sure your work area and all the equipment you are using is clean. This will prevent any unwanted particles or bacteria from getting into your bath bombs. Also, make sure you have you have enough room to work in. We highly recommend wearing an apron to protect your clothing and gloves, glasses, and a mask. In addition, you will want to have your Witch Hazel bottles in a spray bottle. Witch Hazel is used to help bind ingredients with little to no action so it’s important to have that handy and ready to go. Water will not be helpful in this recipe and as a side note, this recipe is best prepared in a non-humid climate. Like I stated above, bath bombs are activated by water and simple moisture in the air can slightly activate these guys.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Preparing the Dry IngredientsLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Preparing the Dry Ingredients

Are you ready to get started?  So, in the first bowl is going to be your dry ingredients. Take your scale, making sure it is set to grams, and weigh out 166 grams Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, 512 grams Citric Acid, and 1,120 grams of Baking Soda. Then using your gloved hands, mix the ingredients together, breaking up any clumps as you go. Once these are mixed well, set this bowl aside.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Preparing the Wet IngredientsLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Preparing the Wet Ingredients

Next, you can combine the wet ingredients together. So, in a separate bowl, with your scale still set to grams, weigh out 18 grams of Jojoba oil and the 16 grams of Lavender Mint Wow Fragrance Oil. Mix this together well using your mixing spoon or even a whisk.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Mixing the Wet and Dry IngredientsLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Mixing the Wet and Dry Ingredients

Next, we can combine our wet and dry ingredients together. Slowly add the oils to your dry. For the record, if you happen to get a mild reaction when you add the wet to the dry, don’t panic! It will calm down once you get more dry mixed in. Finally, use your gloved hands to mix the ingredients together. You want to be sure the oils are evenly dispersed throughout the mixture. This bowl can be set aside until later.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Separating the DoughLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Separating the Dough

Now that your base mixture is combined, you can separate the dough so it can be colored. You are going to separate the bath bomb dough into 3 equal portions and there is no distinct weight for each portion so go ahead and eyeball it. Two bowls will be colored with our FUN Soap Colorants and one bowl will remain un-colored.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Mixing the Violet ColorLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Mixing the Violet Color

Now we can add our colorant! Tare out your scale and to the first bowl, add in 9 grams of Ultramarine Violet FUN Soap Colorant. Then using your gloved hands you will mix the color fully and evenly into your dough until you have achieved a nice, pale violet color. You can set this portion aside for the moment.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Mixing the Green ColorLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Mixing the Green Color

Next, let’s mix the green! Tare out your scale and in your second bowl add 12 grams of Kelly Green FUN Soap colorant. Again, using gloved hands, mix the green colorant in thoroughly and evenly until you have a nice, pale shade of green. Now you can set this bowl aside.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Molding the Bath Bombs

There are many types and shapes of bath bomb molds out there that can be used.  Virtually anything can be used as a bath bomb mold! Silicone molds, soap molds, shallow jars or deep lids.  Shop around your local craft store or even look around your kitchen and let your imagination take over! You can make all shapes and sizes of bath treats, however, please keep in mind that you need the mold to have the ability to release easily. With this recipe, we kept it easy and chose a simple, round plastic fillable Christmas ornament that you can find in any craft store.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Starting With Your First ColorLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Starting With Your First Color

Next you can start putting these bath bombs together! You may start with any color you wish, however we started with the green dough. Plus you will be using the Witch Hazel now.  Please note, that it is important to not spray the dough with too much of the Witch Hazel. Over spraying can cause the bath bomb ingredients to activate and as a result your bath bomb will not stay together. Now go ahead and spritz your dough with the witch hazel. Using your hands, give it a nice mix. You are looking for the consistency of damp sand. Take one half of the mold. Next, you will take a small amount of dough and press it firmly into the ornament half.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding on the Second Layer of ColorLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding on the Second Layer of Color

Next, we can move onto the second color. Again, chose any color you wish. We went with white. Give the mix a spritz of Witch Hazel and mix it well making sure it is the right consistency. Next, take a small amount and press it firmly on top of the first layer.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding on the Third Layer of ColorLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding on the Third Layer of Color

Next, you are going to spritz your third layer of dough with Witch Hazel so give it a quick mix, making sure it looks like damp sand.  Take a small amount. Add it to the second layer. Fill to the top as full as you can get it without it overflowing. Make sure to press the dough firmly down.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Preparing the Second Half of the Mold

Now we are going to work on the second half of the mold. So, repeat the process of layering as we did in the first half.  With your first color, take a small amount and press it firmly into other half of the mold.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding the Second Layer of Color

Move on to the second layer by taking a small bit of dough and pressing it firmly onto the first layer.

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding the Third Layer of ColorLavender Mint Bath Bomb Recipe: Adding the Third Layer of Color

Finally, you are going to finish off the second half of the mold with your third layer of color. So, pull off a small amount of dough and push it firmly on top of the previous layer. Next you will be putting the two halves together. So first, give each half of the mold a light spray of Witch Hazel then press the two halves together tightly. Lastly, you will want to place the bath bombs in an area where they will not be disturbed or roll around and let them rest for at least 24 hours. In addition, make sure that the bombs are in a humid-free zone.  Now you can continue building the remaining molds with the same layering process. This recipe should allow for six medium sized bath bombs.

See how easy making bath bombs can be? The ingredients are simple and they can be found in your local grocery store! Plus, the kids can even help with making them since there are no hazardous materials used! With a little creativity and inspiration, the possibilities are endless!  We hope you enjoyed this newest edition to our bath bomb recipe collection. We are sure you will love the scented balance of the soft, earthy lavender and the bright, crisp scent of mint combined. These bath bombs will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed. Plus, the scent of Lavender Mint WOW will leave your bathroom smelling like a spa!

Lavender Mint Bath Bomb: Dos and Don’ts of Bath Bombs

In conclusion, I have included  a tiny list of reminders on how to treat your bath bombs after they are made!

Do remember to keep them out of the humidity! The littlest bit of moisture in the air can cause your bath bombs to go off into a fizzy display! Not good from a selling standpoint! Consider airtight containers or glass jars with lids as a display option. Furthermore, bath bombs can shrink wrapped or even placed in cellophane bags and tied tightly with a pretty ribbon or twist tie.  You will want to wrap them right away.

Do use your bath bombs withing a few months of making or receiving them. The fresher the bath bomb the better the bubble and fizz!

Do let your bombs completely set up. Do not attempt to take them out of their molds yet! Your bombs should come out of the mold easily. Simply use the tabs at the top of the mold to pull the two sides apart being careful in removing them.

Don’t use craft glitter in any of your bath bomb creations. Always use a cosmetic grade glitter.
