Kaolin clay is actually named after a hill in China where it was originally mined from, Kao-Ling Hill. But did you know that kaolin clay is also known by other names as well? It can also be known as Ceramic Clay, or China Clay. Kaolin clay was actually first introduced in Europe during the 1700s. The Chinese introduced it as an example of an ingredient used in the process for making porcelain. Kaolin clay can actually be used in the paper making process as well! When used for paper making, it helps to ensure to gloss on the paper. In 2008, the US Naval Medical Research actually announced that they had invented a kaolin-infused gauze. This gauze is called “Quikclot Combat Gauze.”

Kaolin clay helps to exfoliate the skin, stimulate circulation, and also works as a great exfoliant on the skin. There are also many medicinal benefits of kaolin clay as well! It helps to soothe upset stomachs and suppress hunger. Kaolin clay can also treat cholera, mouth pain, diarrhea, any soreness caused by ulcers or radiation, and it can even treat swelling within the large intestine.
