Powerful Fragrance Oils for Wax MeltsPowerful Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts

When it comes to scenting any room in your house, you are always looking for a strong scent that is gonna stay around for a good while. There are many powerful fragrance oils for your wax melts at Nature’s Garden that you can use in your wax tart recipes that will keep your room smelling wonderful for a long time. However, there are ways to ensure that you have a stronger scent throw in your melter.  For example, you may want to choose a heavier fragrance oil. What ever your use, we will talk about some of our client’s favorite scents for wax melts.  We will also talk about choosing more complex fragrance oils.

Why Choose Heavier Fragrance Oils for your Wax Melts?

Are you looking for a strong aroma in your home that you will enjoy? Using a strong fragrance oil in your wax melts will ensure that your home is completely filled with good scents. A fragrance oil will smell differently in the bottle than it will in your finished wax melts. The reasoning behind this is because in the bottle all you smell are the top notes. Then, when the fragrance is mixed into the wax melts, you will smell the incorporation of all three notes. Choosing heavier fragrance oils will ensure that you are able to distinguish these notes more clearly in your final product. Also, depending on the size of the room that your wax melts are melted in, you may need stronger fragrances to encompass the whole room.

What Makes These Fragrances Heavier?

There are several factors that play into making a fragrance oil more strong than another. All of the fragrance oils sold at Nature’s Garden are already 100% concentrated. This means that our fragrance oils aren’t diluted, and you will get the full aroma of the fragrance. This is one of the factors that plays into a strong fragrance oil.

Next to the concentration of the fragrance, the evaporation time is another factor that plays into its strength. More complex fragrances, meaning fragrance oils that have top, middle, and base notes, tend to linger longer. The first impression you get of a fragrance oil is the scent of the top note. After the top note evaporates, you get the aroma of the middle notes. Finally, the base notes in the scent round it out, anchoring the scent and allowing it to linger longer. The stronger fragrance and more complex the notes, the longer it will typically linger.

Now, let’s talk about single notes scents. While some single note scents will still be strong and work well in a burner, often they tend to fade away a bit sooner than more complex scents. A single note scent doesn’t have base notes to anchor it.  So, while it might still be strong and wonderful, it is more likely it won’t have as much longevity when compared side by side to a more complex fragrance oil.

Other ways to Use Strong Fragrance Oils

Besides using these fragrance oils for standard wax melts or candle making, there are a lot of different applications for them. Another application for a strong fragrance oil is in our perfume and body spray recipes using a body safe fragrance oil. If you like to make a bold impression with your aroma, then this application is perfect for you to use. Nature’s Gardens’ recipes for different body spray and perfume recipes as well. Clean and sanitize your materials and the area you will be working in before beginning to prepare this recipe. Wearing gloves is especially suggested due to the multiple candle dyes you will be working with when making this recipe.

Prepare the Orange SlicesPrepare the Orange Slices

We will start by preparing the orange slices that will be placed on the top of the finished wax tarts. This will give them time to set up while we prepare the rest of the recipe. With the measurement guide laid out above, we will first weigh out the pillar of bliss wax. You can pour it directly into a pouring pot. We will be using the double boiler method multiple times within this recipe. Melt it down on the stove top. Once it is melted, you can remove the pouring pot from the stove. Then, add in 1 drop of Orange Spectrum Liquid Candle Dye followed by 4 grams of Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil.

Pour Into the MoldsPour Into the Molds

After the orange colorant and fragrance oil are added, mix them in thoroughly and evenly by stirring with a spoon. Then, go ahead and pour the mixture carefully into the cavities of your orange slices mold. It might make a bit of a mess, but that is easier to clean up after the wax has hardened. The mold makes ten orange slices, which we cut in half in a later step. Since the recipe makes 24 wax melts, you will need to refill some of the cavities to have enough for the full project. Once you have the cavities filled, put the mold off to the side. We will return to these in a later step once they have completely set up.

Weigh Out the Pillar of Bliss WaxWeigh Out the Pillar of Bliss Wax

There are going to be three main layers to these wax melts. We will be calling the first one the crust, since these look like a tasty layered dessert. To make this layer, we need to weigh out more of the pillar of bliss wax. Measure out approximately 100-103 grams. Using the double boiler method again, melt it down to a liquid state.

Add Colorant to the WaxAdd Colorant to the Wax

Once there are no more clumps of wax we can remove it from the double boiler. The crust layer is of course going to need to be brown, so we need to incorporate some colorant. However, we want to refrain from making it too dark. Start by adding in only 1 drop of the brown spectrum liquid candle dye. Then, take the yellow spectrum liquid candle dye and dip the tip of a toothpick in it. Stir this into the liquid wax. The yellow should prevent us ending up with too dark of a crust. Now you can add in 10 grams of the Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. Grab a mixing spoon and stir everything together.

Pour Crust Layer in MoldsPour Crust Layer into Molds

Set the 24 cavity Brownie Bites Mold out for this step. Take the colored mixture and pour in into all 24 of the cavities. The important thing to remember in this step is to only filled each cavity 1/4 of the way. Since we still have a few more layers to put on top of this one, we need to make sure that they will all fit in the molds. Allow this first layer to set up and harden before moving onto the next layer.

Preparing the Middle LayerPreparing the Middle Layer

When the crust is set up or is nearly there, we can start preparing the second or middle layer of these wax tarts. Weigh out 200 grams of pillar of bliss wax. For a third time, use a double boiler to melt it down. Remove it from the stove top and we will add our colorant. This middle layer needs to be light in color, like a cream shade. So, we will take another toothpick and dip it into another the yellow candle dye. Each of the layers in our recipe can be adjusted to make it your own. If you would like different colors, feel free to make them! Swirl the toothpick into the melted wax and add in 20 grams of Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. Then, pour this layer into the 24 cavity mold on top of the crust, filling it 1/2 of the space of the cavities. Once again, wait for this layer to set up before you start on the next one.

Forming the Top LayerForming the Top Layer

Now, we can begin to prepare our third layer, the top one. Just as we have been, weigh out 100 grams of the pillar of bliss wax and melt it. Once it is melted, we are going to add color to it. We want this layer to have an orange tint to it. Depending on the shade you desire for your tarts, you can add more dye than we chose to. Taking yet another toothpick, dip it into the orange spectrum liquid candle dye and incorporate it into the wax. Then, add in your 10 grams of Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil to scent it. Top off the brownie bite molds with this layer, filling up the last 1/4 that is still left. Allow this layer to dry before moving on.

Melting the Joy WaxMelting the Joy Wax

At this point, each one of the layers should be set up all of the way. The next layer we have to make is the whipped fluffy topping that really ties these wax melts together. Once again, you will need your scale to weigh out some wax. However, this time we will be using Joy Wax! Measure out 200 grams and put it in a pouring pot to melt it with a double boiler. After it melts, add in 20 grams of Orange Juice Cake Fragrance Oil. Stir with a mixing spoon to incorporate the scent into the melted wax.

Whipping the Joy WaxWhipping the Joy Wax

Allow the Joy Wax to sit for a few minutes. Then, take out either an electric hand mixer or you could also use a regular spoon for this step. Both of them will work just fine. Take the tool you choose and begin whipping the wax on and off until the mixture starts thickening up. It should eventually reach a consistency similar to Vaseline, and it should look clear. Once it reaches that point, you can get ready to top off your wax tarts!

Apply the Whipped Wax

Take a regular sized spoon to scoop small amounts of the whipped topping onto the wax melts. Make sure you are placing the topping on the center of your tarts so that everything looks symmetrical. As it sets up, the color of the whipped wax is going to turn more white and stiffen up a little. Then it is really going to look like the fluffy white topping we are looking for!

Remove the Orange SlicesRemove the Orange Slices

While the Joy Wax is setting up, we can return to the orange slice mold from the very first step in the recipe. They definitely will be completely set up and ready to go by now. It does not take very long at all for these to harden. So, go ahead and pop each of the orange slices out of the mold cavities.

Place the Oranges on TopPlace the Oranges on Top

In order for the oranges slices to look more proportionate to the smaller wax melts, we decided to cut them in half. Otherwise, they would have looked too big for the size of the mold. The Joy Wax will have turned white by now, bringing the look together. Simply place these oranges on the tops of each mold and you are finished with this project!

Your Orange Juice Cake Wax Melts Recipe is now finished! When you want to use them, all you have to do is simply place one in a potpourri burner or wax burner. These are super easy to share with friends as well as a little gift since it makes a total of 24 tarts. We hope you enjoyed creating this new recipe with us!
