Golden Foods Soy Wax 464- 10 Pounds

Golden Foods soy wax 464-  10 pound bag.

Directions and information:  Heat soy wax to 185 degrees F.  Add coloring.  Add 1.5 oz. of Natures Garden concentrated fragrance oil of your choice, stir.    Heavier fragrances (fragrances with higher flash points) can be added at 185 degrees F.  Lighter fragrances (fragrances with lower flash points) such as citrus type fragrances, should be added at around 160 degrees F.  Allow your soy wax to cool at room temp until it reaches 110 degrees F.  Your wax will be slightly slushy in appearance.  Pour soy wax at this temperature into candle containers.  Allow to set up at room temp.

Note:  Do not get your soy wax hotter than 200 degrees F or it may begin to discolor.  It used to be thought that adding fragrance to soy wax at a low temperature would prevent it from evaporating out of the wax prematurely (we used to suggest adding fragrance to soy wax at 130 degrees F).  However, our testing has shown us that fragrance needs to be added at a hotter temperature so that the fragrance properly binds with the soy wax.  Heavier fragrances containing vanilla can be added to the hot soy wax at around 185 degrees F; while we suggest adding lighter, lower flash point fragrances such as citrus type fragrances, at 160 degrees F.  Citrus type fragrances can break down at high temps; this is why we suggest adding them to the hot wax at this lower temp.

Soy Wax has a natural frosting look.  In order to reduce this frosting look on the tops of your candles, apply heat to finished candles with a hot hair dryer.

Great soy wax

Reviewer: A viewer from Raymond, CA US 10/25/10

I really like the 464 wax. It's super easy to work with and has a nice scent throw. I use a 10% fragrance load with this, though it says you can exceed that if wanted. It does tend to frost on the top, but that is very typical of soy wax. I simply let my customers know up front, plus I make business sized cards that I attach on every candle that states the benefits of soy, and the fact that they will see some frosting. I also offer the joy wax which is a blended wax and doesn't frost, but so far all my customers prefer the 464 over the joy. Because the 464 is so popular and not messy like the Joy, I'm going to take the Joy wax out of my line and stick to the 464 for my container candles. I also like the scent throw much better than the joy.

Great for wax tarts

Reviewer: A viewer from Massillon, Ohio US 05/11/13

I only make wax tarts, but I use to make candles. Did not care for this in candle making, but for wax tarts, this is pretty good, I like it.

Really wanted to like this wax...

Reviewer: A viewer from USA 02/23/13

But I don't. (I'm sorry). I can't seem to get a decent scent throw, no matter what I do. I was using a different wax for tarts and will go back to that. I even had some clients ask me if I had changed something because my tarts weren't as good as all the ones they had gotten from me previously (even in the same scents) - uh-oh! The only difference is the wax. Like I said, I wanted to love it, but it just didn't work for me.

Lovely and Creamy

Reviewer: A viewer from LONDONDERRY, NH US 10/19/11

I thought I would try Golden Foods Soy Wax 464 for a change. I heated the wax to 185, poured at 110, but got nothing but holes on top. I then tried pouring at 135 and 170 and each candle came out lovely and smooth. Just make sure all glass jars are warmed before pour. I did find on each candle that after lit, when the wax hardened, they all had holes and pits. Not very attractive. Apart from that, the wax is lovely and creamy.

Great Potential

Reviewer: A viewer from Lancaster, CA US 07/31/13

I made 2 dozen tea light candles with this wax. The candles came out a bit slushy looking ( as mentioned in the description). I will try using the hair dryer to even out the texture and will also pour at a different temperature. Besides that, the wax is very easy to melt in my double broiler and has a very smooth appearance when melted. I can't wait to try this wax in a tart recipe. I think this wax has great potential.

Wax and Tarts

Reviewer: A viewer from PHILADELPHIA, PA US 03/03/14

I ordered this wax to make tarts with. I am used to using IGI 6006 Para/Soy Wax! I hope this wax turns out good for tarts. I know when I make candles with this wax they come out beautifully. I love all your fragrance oils too. You are the ONLY company that has different types that has great scents and great prices too. I'm in love with your fragrance oils, all of them!! Thanks so much Nature's Garden for your wonderful products. Anyone who has made tarts with this wax please let me know how they come out and how you made them? Did you wait for wax to cool to 110 degrees or pour hot? Thanks

Great Product

Reviewer: A viewer from Wellington, OH US 08/09/11

This is my first time making candles and I have to say that I am glad that I chose this wax over the others. It is very easy to clean up and looks great when colored and smells good whether the candle is lit or not. I love working with this stuff and I will definitely be buying more.
