Handmade Soap

handmade soap My name is Amy Garrett, and I own Alberta Handmade Soap Co. It’s a tiny “just me with the support of my family” company located in rural Alberta so it’s been a lot of work getting seen, but I love my work and products, and my customers really make it worthwhile for me!

I am an American from Oregon who married a Canadian from Alberta, which is what started my soap making adventure (and living in Alberta) – I wanted to make handmade soap wedding favours, and it turned into a major part of my life! There was no way I could do it as a hobby, there is too many soaps to make in a week and my house couldn’t contain them all, so once we finished the immigration process into Canada and got moved up here, *and* learned all the Canadian legalities, I formed Alberta Handmade Soap Co. and it just keeps growing. It wasn’t long after bar soap that I started expanding what I make – it makes me very happy to make bath and body products that my customers love.

My specialty is cold process handmade soap, but I also make lotions and body butters, lip balms, bath bombs, and more, with more products on the horizon. I’m a new customer to Nature’s Garden, and the fragrance oils have been so well received in all my products – I am so happy with the quality! I use a few suppliers but can easily say that Nature’s Garden has replaced a large portion of my regular scents, and I’m adding so many new ones, they are all so nice; Pink Sugar and Pumpkin Apple Butter sold huge this season, what I thought would last me til spring is just about out of stock from just a month of holiday sales!

Relax and Rejuvenate the Soul

This entry was posted in bath and body, bath products, bath salts, body spray, cosmetic ingredients, creative, Fragrance Oils, homemade, Natures Garden and tagged , , , , , , , , , , , on by .

fragrance oilsWhat’s your name & Your Company Name:  Jennifer – Harmony Designs & Soaps

My slogan is: Relax & Rejuvenate the Soul.

I absolutely love creating.  It makes me feel such an accomplishment seeing the before and after. I love all the fragrance oils and love experimenting with them. Nature inspired my shop and my product design. A lot of my inspiration comes from nature. I am also a nature photographer and so much enjoy being outside and capturing nature’s beauty.

I lost my Dad to cancer in 2007 and he inspired me to do what I love to do. I know he would be very proud of me today.

I carry a variety of products in my Etsy shop, lip balms, body sprays, kanzashi hair flowers and bath salts just to name a few. I am always inspired to try new things. Sometimes they work out sometimes they don’t, I guess that’s called trial and error. Natures Garden carries so many products to help give you a kick start to create.

I came up with the name Harmony Designs because I thought about its meaning and it fit my shop perfectly.

Meaning: internal calm : balance, tranquility. I love that my shop name relays a tranquil feeling. The whole idea behind starting my shop was that I wanted to help people relax and have that “me” time that we all crave. We all have such busy lives and need that little bit of peace and quiet after a long day at work. My bath salts are wonderful for that reason. I use all my products myself and wouldn’t put anything out there that I didn’t wholeheartedly believe in. I love when people love my products. It makes me feel what I do is successful. Without my wonderful customers my shop wouldn’t exist.

Even when I was little I loved creating, painting and whatever else my little creative mind could get a hold on. I am pretty much a Jane of all trades. I do wear a lot of hats but wouldn’t want it any other way.  I love making favors for Weddings! I love being able to share in someones special moment. Just a side note my wedding is coming up in September and I am so excited! I know how it feels to want something special for your wedding so I take a lot of pride in making wedding favors.

Also when I was little I remember the lovely aromas coming from the kitchen when my parents were baking. I think that is one of the reasons I love my soy tart melts so much. I love all the dessert fragrances and it brings back those wonderful memories of my Dad making peach cobbler or my Mom baking. I love that my soy tart melts last and fill the house with so many wonderful Natures Garden Fragrances!

fragrance oilWhat’s your name & Your Company Name?  My name is Ms. M. Antwane Sheppard and I own Raw Essence – All Natural Bath & Spa Products

Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business?  I’ve been in business for all of six months and the way I got into this business is a sad but true story.  I went to a beautician who had styled my hair in a way that caused significant hair lost. I began to research different oils and their benefits, in effort to develop a concoction that would promote hair growth.   Here’s what I initially came up with – Emu Oil, Castor Oil, Sulfur Sublimed and Eucalyptus – and my hair grew back, longer than it was before going to the beautician, and within four months. With the knowledge I had gained on the wonderful benefits of oils, I started making soaps, sugar scrubs and bath salts. I gave them as gifts to co-workers and family.  Soon after, Raw Essence was born.  What motivates me is the idea of being able to help others and sharing the knowledge of living a more healthy and natural life.

What products do you make and sell?  I make and sell: two types of hair growth serums, handmade soaps, deodorant, flavored lip balms, scented sugar scrubs, bath salts, several types of lotions, whipped body butters, body splashes and solid perfumes, kissable massage oils, scented candles, aroma melts, reed diffusers, and room & linen sprays.

What are your business goals?  I would like to grow Raw Essence to a point where I could maybe give up my day job.  ….Maybe?

What are some products you use from Natures Garden; what are your favorite products from Natures Garden?  I use fragrance oils from Natures Garden; my favorite and best-selling is Cucumber Melon. My husband’s favorite and second best-selling is Linen Breeze. I also use NG’s additives, like Rose Buds, Lemon Peels, and Poppy Seeds as well as their packaging containers, like lip balm pots. The best thing about Natures Garden “in my opinion” is their SUPER FAST SHIPPING!!! I never have had to wait days for my orders to arrive and that is so very important to me and the success of Raw Essence.

2. Why did you decide to go into business? What was your motivation? How long have you been in business?  I’ve always wanted to own a business where I can create and craft. Since I love arts, crafting and creativity I started creating gift baskets. With the high demand for bath & body products as the giftable items ideas started to spark. I decided to start creating my own line of bath & body products which started out with lotions and shower gels. I introduced my products to friends and family and was encouraged even more to pursue this as a part of my business. I’ve been in business since spring of 2012 and look forward to many, many years of creating!

3. What products do you make and sell?  I make body butters, milk baths, lotions, soaps, shower gels, bath fizzies, body scrubs, solid sugar scrubs and lip balms. In the future I plan to add more wonderful products to my line.

4. What are your business goals?   Quality is highly important to me. One of my major goals is to continue to educate myself on ways to create exceptional, all natural products for my clients.

5. What are some products you use from Natures Garden; what are your favorite products from Natures Garden? I love, love love your fragrance oils and lip flavorings. My favorite is the strawberry cheesecake flavoring which I use for lip balms. I get lots of requests from my clients for the strawberry cheesecake. My favorite fragrance oil is the passion fruit, the scent is lightly sweetened passion fruit and it reminds me of my tropical roots.

Personalized Products for Special Events

This entry was posted in all natural, bath and body, bath products, candle making supplies, creative, Fragrance Oils, Natures Garden, wholesale fragrance oils and tagged , , , , , , , , , , , on by .

wholesale fragrance oils1.  What’s your name & Your Company Name:   My name is Laura Luther, I am the proud owner of Olive My Skin

2.  Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business? I have officially been in business since 2002, but I have been making my own products since the 1980’s. Having sensitive skin and not being able to use commercial products put me on the course to find all natural alternatives to skincare. Those products were given to friends and family as gifts and eventually as my test marketers. It wasn’t until a friend suggested I sell my products at a craft show that I realized how much I loved informing people the benefits of all natural products. An educated customer always comes back for more.

3.  What products do you make and sell?  Handmade soaps, lotions, lip balms, sugar scrubs, shower gels, foaming hand soaps, soy and palm wax candles. Private Labeling for shops and personalized products for weddings, corporate events, showers and special occasions are very popular with customers right now too.

4.  What are your business goals?  This is my full time job. I am a single mom to 3 teenage kids, so I am able to be both an attentive parent and a successful business owner. Currently my products can be found in many shops in Connecticut, but I hope to be in shops all over the country.

5.  What are some products you use from Natures Garden; what are your favorite products from Natures Garden?  The candle fragrances from Nature’s Garden are awesome! Great throw, even when unlit! My customers seem to be drawn towards them. Most of my candle scents are from Nature’s Garden and I think that they will all be very soon.

Organic Products with Essential Oils

This entry was posted in bath and body, bath salts, bath teas, cold process soap, Fragrance Oils, massage oils, Natures Garden Essential Oils, Soap making supplies and tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on by .

fragrance oils1.  What’s your name & Your Company Name:  Caryn Stockwell, Second Star Designs

2.  Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business?  I have been a professional seamstress and clothing designer for over 20 years, starting and closing a number of companies over the years.  In 2008, at the behest of a local store, I launched Second Star Designs with my line of children’s clothing – providing quality products that my customers could afford; clothing that could be handed down generation after generation instead of ending up in landfills.  In 2011, my skin developed a sensitivity to certain chemicals and fibers.  This led to the creation of clothing produced using only natural fibers and eventually, only organic materials.  This sensitivity increased to a point wherein I even became sensitive to the chemicals found in commercially produced body products.

In 2012, out of concern for the environment and the toxins used in the majority of the products found on the store shelves, I created an organic healing salve for use in our home.  I shared this new product with friends and family.  Those using this salve responded with excitement over its healing properties, asking where they could purchase it in bulk.  Within a few short months, four stores in the Portland/Vancouver Metro area were carrying my healing salve and requesting additional products along similar lines.  These requests led to my Barista Blend lip balms, Aromatic Tub Teas, and organic MP soap bars, which were released in December 2012.

With the onset of 2013, I was accepted as an Official Designer for Fashion Week San Diego.  The organizers were interested in both my organic, bio-friendly adult clothing line and my small line of organic body products; asking me to bring both product lines to San Diego this coming Fall.  In the meantime, I was receiving requests from stores to add additional products to the body products line.  Always willing to try something new, I created my first loaf of cold process soap toward the end of January.  Much in the same way that one tattoo leads to another, one loaf of soap has led to another and another and another … with people wanting to purchase bars of soap simply from seeing photos posted on my Facebook Fan Page.

In the last three months, I have discovered a new passion in the creation of organic body products; products that we personally love to use.  In addition to the soaps, healing salve, and tub teas, I have added a number of organic products that consist of 98% to 100% organic ingredients, packaged in recyclable/biodegradable packaging.

3.  What products do you make and sell?   I have a line of clothing for infants and children.  I am designing and manufacturing a line of bio-friendly adult clothing.  Under the raison éthique™ by Second Star Designs label, I have added a line of organic body products to my repertoire:  CP soap, lip balms, tub teas, scented bath salts, chocolate solar salts, healing salve, capsaicin cream, whipped body soufflés, massage oil lotion bars, foaming liquid hand soap, bath truffles, and glycerin soap.  In the next two months, along with creating our own glycerin soap base, we anticipate offering massage oil candles which will be hand-crafted using a proprietary blend of GMO-free, non-soy, vegetable wax.

4.  What are your business goals?   We are hoping to grow both business divisions into self-supporting entities providing wonderful products that our customers’ skin will love to live in.

5.  What are some products you use from Natures Garden; what are your favorite products from Natures Garden?   I use a number of essential oils from Natures Garden; my favorites being their Natural Vanilla Infusion.  I have also recently discovered that NG carries a number of oils, butters and clays that are difficult to find anywhere else … which I plan on adding to my shopping list.
