Green Tea Scrub RecipeGreen Tea Scrub Recipe

Scrubs are incredibly popular these days! They are easy to make and most of the time, they require just a few ingredients. However, Nature’s Garden has a new scrub recipe that would be an amazing addition to your personal collection or to add to your line of bath and body products for your customers. Our green tea scrub recipe is full of skin nourishing ingredients such as green tea powder, argan oil and mango butter. Your skin will be shiny and glowing after just one use! You’ll be pleased to find out that this simple little tea leaf can do wonders for your skin!

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: The Green Tea Rundown

Let’s talk about this amazing green leaf before we get started. Out of all the types of tea in the world, green tea’s history is the longest and most documented beverage across many southeast Asian cultures. As far back as 600 A.D., a most important book regarding tea was written by Lu Yu. His book was called Cha Jing, or Tea Classic. Not only is this book an amazing documentation of the history and culture of China, but it detailed exactly how a cup of green tea should be made and how it should be served. Tea is an incredible part of Asian culture and there are even ceremonies that include serving green tea.

Only recently has green tea been introduced to the western part of the world and in the past decade, green tea has developed quite a reputation as a healthy food. Much research has been done to find out how green tea positively affects the body. Green tea has a huge amount of antioxidants that help fight free radicals. Free radicals damage the skin, causing premature aging or even skin cancer. Another thing, green tea is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Products containing green tea are perfect for those with sensitive skin that may help soothe it. Also, a specific antioxidant in green tea called catechins, is an anti-bacterial agent and this can help with those who suffer from acne and improve the overall appearance of their complexion.

As a side note, Natures Garden sells our herbs for external use only. We do not sell them as food items. The information we provide is for educational purposes only. This information is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. This information has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Let’s Talk About Some Ingredients

So, we have included some amazing skin loving ingredients in this facial scrub. Let’s talk about a few of them.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Argan OilGreen Tea Scrub Recipe: Argan Oil

First, is the argan oil. Argan oil is an amazing skin product! This oil is easily absorbed into the skin, making it a fantastic oil to include in your hair care and skincare formulations.  Argan oil also allows the skin to breathe and is used in many acne-fighting formulas.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Mango ButterGreen Tea Scrub Recipe: Mango Butter

Mango butter is a wonderful addition to this scrub! Mango butter is an exotic, luxury oil, which melts on the skin; providing skin softening and moisturizing qualities. It is also said to reduce the signs of aging by reducing wrinkle formation.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Green Tea PowderGreen Tea Scrub Recipe: Green Tea Powder

Well, we all know how amazing green tea can be for the skin. Green tea powder is an excellent addition to cosmetics and soap due to its antioxidant properties and gentle exfoliation. However, it also is a wonderful, natural colorant for any type of soap making! When used in melt and pour soap you will get a nice green color. In cold process soap, you will have an olive color to your soap.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Sugar

Did you know sugar can actually be good for your skin? I found that fact very interesting. First, sugar is a natural humectant which means it helps hydrate your skin and then keep that moisture locked in. Second, sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that helps promote new cell growth. Lastly, sugar is an excellent, natural exfoliant that is gentle to the skin.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Chubba Dubba Weight Loss Fragrance Oil

Chubba Dubba Weight Loss Fragrance Oil has an interesting story behind the creation of it. Before designing this fragrance, Nature’s Garden did research to find out which aromas helped to decrease appetite.  They then had their perfumist create this blend using high concentrations of essential oils. This fragrance oil is an aromatic blend of Sicilian orange, lemongrass, lemon slices, jasmine, green tea, and Tahitian vanilla. While we do not make any health claims pertaining to this fragrance, we believe that you will truly enjoy this enlightening blend.

Why Chubba Dubba though?  We named this fragrance chubba dubba because this is how we respond to cute chubby babies. So, while this may seem like a funny name for a fragrance oil, it smells yummy in any kind of bath and body product!

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Ingredients You Can Get at Nature’s Garden

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Other Ingredients and Equipment You’ll Need

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Total Recipe Amounts

  • 113 grams Argan Oil
  • 68 grams Shea Butter
  • 68 grams Mango Butter
  • 45 grams Silky Emulsifying Wax
  • 9 grams White Beeswax
  • 9 grams Chubba Dubba Weight Loss Fragrance Oil
  • 5 grams Optiphen Preservative
  • 5 grams Vitamin E Oil
  • 680 grams white granulated sugar
  • 6 grams Green Tea Powder
  • 15 grams Vegetable Glycerin
  • 9 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Before You Get Started

Before you get started with making your scrub, you will need to take a few steps to ensure your creating will go smoothly. First, give your work area, along with your packing materials, and equipment a good cleaning and sanitizing. Also, we strongly suggest wearing protective clothing, gloves while you are preparing this recipe. One more thing to be sure of, have all your equipment and ingredients at an arm’s reach. This will help you move along with no interruptions.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Using The Double Boiler

In the first step of this recipe, you will want to set your double boiler up. If you do not have a double boiler, you can create one simply by taking a smaller size pot and setting it in a larger size pot. You will then add a couple of inches of water to the larger pot. You can go ahead and turn your burner on to medium. By the time the water has heated up, you will be ready to add the waxes and oils in for melting.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Weighing out the Oils, Waxes and Butters

Now you will weigh out the oils, waxes and butters. Place you small on the scale and tare out the weight. To the smaller pot, weigh out 136 grams Fractionated Coconut Oil, 113 grams Argan Oil, 68 grams Shea Butter, 68 grams Mango Butter, 45 grams Silky Emulsifying Wax and 9 grams of White Beeswax.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Melting the Oils, Waxes and Butters

Once you have all the oils, waxes and butters weighed out, take the pot and place it in the larger pot or pan with the heated water.  Allow the contents to melt at a gentle heat, stirring occasionally. Once they are completely melted you can remove this pot from the heat.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Prepping the Green Tea Powder and Vegetable Glycerin

While you are waiting on all the oil and waxes to melt, you can do some prep work with the other ingredients. First, you will start with the green tea powder and vegetable glycerin. So in a small bowl, weigh out 6 grams of green tea powder and 15 grams of vegetable glycerin. You can set this bowl aside for the moment.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Prepping The SugarGreen Tea Scrub Recipe: Prepping The Sugar

Next, you can prepare the sugar. In a large mixing bowl, go ahead and weigh out 680 grams of granulated sugar. You can also set this aside for the time being.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Prepping the Fragrance Oil, Vitamin E and OptiphenGreen Tea Scrub Recipe: Prepping the Fragrance Oil, Vitamin E and Optiphen

One last step that you can prepare is the fragrance oil, vitamin E and the optiphen preservative. In a small bowl you can weigh out the 5 grams of Optiphen,  5 grams of vitamin E , 9 grams of Vanilla White Color Stabilizer and the  9 grams of Chubba Dubba Weight Loss fragrance oil. Chubba Dubba Weight Loss has some vanillin in it so we are using the Vanilla White Color Stabilizer as a precaution to the fragrance oil turning the scrub brown in color. Also, we have included a preservative, Optiphen. This will allow you to prepare the recipe ahead of time without the issue of it going bad. Go ahead and stir this mixture to combine everything together and set it aside as well.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Adding the Fragrance, Vitamin E and Optiphen

Once your oils have completely melted and you have removed the pot from the heat, you will be adding the last three ingredients. However, it is important to wait for the temperature of the oils and butters to drop before doing so. You want the temperature to be at 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the correct temperature to add the Optiphen too. If it is added at a higher temperature, then the heat may destroy any of the preserving qualities of the Optiphen. So when the butters and oils have reached the correct temperature, you can go ahead and add in the prepared fragrance mixture.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Adding the Oils Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Adding the Oils

Now we are going to add the melted oils to the sugar. Take your bowl with the sugar that has been pre-weighed and add in the oil/fragrance mixture. Mix these together combining everything thoroughly.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Adding in the Green Tea MixtureGreen Tea Scrub Recipe: Adding in the Green Tea Mixture

Next you will be adding in the green tea mixture you prepared earlier. So go ahead and add this to your sugar/oil mixture. stir this well to disperse everything evenly.

Green Tea Scrub Recipe: Adding Your Scrubs to the Jars

Lastly, you will divide your scrub into their jars.  However, before you add your facial scrub to the jars, you will need to allow it to come to room temperature. Once it has reached that point, you can now divide the scrub into seven 4-ounce jars. Add your lid on top and they are ready to use!

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Clean and Sanitize Before Working

Before you begin this project make sure to have a clean work space prepared and that you have your sanitized utensils ready to use. This is not only important for you to have an easier time crafting, but prevents your cute Pink Lemonade Scrubs from potentially being contaminated during the process. So, you must be clean and prepared to make the best possible sugar scrub while having the most fun that you can. Thus, we suggest that you do some tidying prep work.

First, remove anything in your work space that could get in your way. For this layered body scrub recipe you will need both a flat surface to work and a stove top. So, be sure you have these areas both cleaned and sanitized. Next, you will want to make sure that all of your equipment is ready to use. Not only should it be sanitized, but it should be within an arms length of your work space. This will make the process easy for you as you will not need to pause to look for any of the necessary components. After everything is ready for you to work, it is time for you to create your sweet sugar scrub!

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Using the Double Boiler Method

Further, you should know how to create a double boiler for this recipe. If you already know what this is, then skip ahead. But, those that don’t know how to create one should pay attention because this device is crucial for avoiding burnt oils. Thus, a double boiler can potentially save you from a disaster with your butters and oils.

So, we will walk through how to create the double boiler with two average pots. First, take the two differently sized pots that you should have ready for this recipe and make sure that one pot can fit inside the other pot easily with some room on either side. The larger pot will contain the water and the smaller pot will be used to melt your ingredients. Also, you want the water to touch the bottom of the small pot, but make sure the water won’t splash into your oils!

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Heating Your Oils, Butters, and WaxPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Weighing and Heating Your Oils, Butters, and Wax

First, you will weigh out all the ingredients that you will need to heat and melt for this recipe. So, get a scale and tare the weight of a bowl. Weigh out 136 grams of the Coconut Oil 76, 113 grams of the Sunflower Oil, 74 grams of the Mango Butter, 62 grams of the Cocoa Butter Golden Natural, 50 grams of the Traditional Emulsifying Wax, 20 grams of the Olive Oil Pomace, and 12 grams of the Beeswax White Pastilles. Then, transfer these ingredients to the small pot of your double boiler. Occasionally stir as these weighed ingredients are melting.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Preparing the Powdered HerbsPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Preparing the Powdered Herbs for Your Body Scrub

While you wait for your ingredients to melt, you can prepare your other powders. You will need your titanium dioxide, lemon peel powder and arrowroot powder. Also, get three medium bowls.

First, take one of your clean bowls and weigh out a single gram of the Lemon Peel Powder into the bowl. Then, add 7 grams of the vegetable glycerin to this same bowl. Now, mix these two ingredients together well enough to create a paste. This lemon powder paste will be used later in the yellow colored layer of this scrub. Second, take another of your clean bowls and weigh 2 grams of your Titanium Dioxide Oil Dispersible. This will be used for the white layer of this scrub. Finally, add 15 grams of arrowroot powder to the third bowl.  Set all of these bowls aside for now.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Adding Ingredients to Melted MixturePink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Adding Ingredients to Melted Mixture

After your oils, waxes, and butter ingredients are melted, you will be adding a few more liquid ingredients. So, transfer your melted oils, butters, and wax to the same bowl used to weigh them earlier and tare the bowl’s weight on the scale. Then, wait until the temperature drops to about 120-140 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, you can weigh 18 grams of the Raspberry Lemonade Fragrance Oil, 5 grams of the Optiphen Preservative, the 15 grams of the Arrowroot Powder, and 5 grams of the Vitamin E Oil. Finally, mix all these ingredients well enough to incorporate everything.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Adding the White Granulated SugarPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Adding the White Granulated Sugar

Now, we are going to weigh the white granulated sugar for this scrub. So, take your scale and weigh out 680 grams of the white granulated sugar.  Then, add the sugar to the oil mixture that you have created. As you are adding the sugar, make sure that you stir well enough to incorporate everything. You want to make sure that the sugar is evenly dispersed throughout the oil mixture.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Separating the Scrub for the Three LayersPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Separating the Scrub for the Three Layers

Next, you are going to separate your big batch into three bowls. These will each be colored differently to create the three layers. Make sure you use the two bowls that we used for the lemon peel paste and the titanium dioxide as well as another clean bowl. Now, divide the large mixture of sugar and oils into your three bowls evenly. Each of these three bowls should get about 400 grams of the sugar scrub mixture.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Coloring the Three Scrub Layers Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Creating the Different Sugar Scrub Layers

Now, you are going to color the contents of your three bowls. Each of these bowls will be a different color, which will be a white, a pink, and a yellow.

First, you will create the yellow colored scrub layer. For this step you will need the bowl that contains the lemon peel powder paste and a portion of the scrub mixture. Then, add 15 drops of the FUN Soap Colorant Neon Yellow to this same bowl and mix well to incorporate all of your colorant. Second, you will need the white colored sugar scrub. You should have already created this color using the 2 grams of titanium dioxide that you have previously weighed. Just make sure to mix well enough to create a white hue and set these two bowls aside.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Coloring the Pink Scrub LayerPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Coloring the Pink Scrub Layer

Next, you will be creating the bottom layer of your sugar scrub. This third bowl will be colored pink. So, add 2 drops of your FUN Soap Colorant Tomato Red, 2 drops of the FUN Soap Colorant Ultramarine Violet , and 5 drops of the FUN Soap Colorant Neon Pink to the last uncolored bowl. This will create the most perfect pink hue for the Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe! Mix the colorant into the scrub. Now, you have the pink, yellow, and white colors prepared for the layers of your scrub!

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Layering the Sugar ScrubPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Layering the Sugar Scrub

Now, you will be adding the completed sugar scrub mixtures to your clear PET jars. First, you must wait for each bowl to reach room temperature. After, your scrub is ready to package up and you can begin creating your three layers.

First, you are going to be adding your pink sugar scrub mixture to the jars first. So, take the pink colored sugar scrub mixture and begin scooping it into one of your jars, You will want to make sure to leave room for the other two layers, so only fill each of your seven jars 1/3 of the way full. Then, repeat this step with your other jars until you are out of pink sugar scrub.

Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Finishing Up the Sugar ScrubPink Lemonade Scrub Recipe Adding More of the Sugar Scrub Layers

Then, you are going to create the next layers with your remaining two colored scrubs. Now, you will use the white portion of your pink lemonade scrub for your second layer. Yo will want to fill the jar about one third more. Again, make sure to leave room for the remaining layer. Repeat this for the remainder of your PET jars. This should leave you with two layers in each jar.

Finally, you will be adding the last layer to your jars. So,take your yellow portion of this scrub and fill the rest of your jars to the inner rim. But, don’t add too much yellow to a single jar as this layer should be about as thick as any other layer you have added. Now, your jars are completely and your scrub is finally ready!  Simply, place a lid on each jar, and if you’d like, you can use them right away.
