Soap Colorants in Cold Process SoapSoap Colorants in Cold Process Soap

Have you ever noticed, that when a chef serves up a beautiful plate of food to, it will most likely has some colorful food displayed on a plain white plate. Don’t you instantly want it, regardless if you are truly hungry or not?  This is because you always “eat with your eyes first”. When you are setting out to make masterpieces of soap for your customers, you want them drawn to the colors of your soap. Soap colorants in cold process soap (or in any type of soap you make) can add another dimension to your creation. It’s the first thing everybody will see.

There are so many options out there when it comes time to color your soap. You have soap dyes, in liquid or powder form. Micas are also a colorant choice. Some micas will add sparkle and color at the same time.  Then, there is the option of natural colors using herbal powders. If you are trying to achieve a more simple, rustic look to your soaps, herbal powders are a wonderful way to go, however, natural soap colorants are a topic for another day.

Typically, you will have a recipe that can be any basic, everyday cold process soap or it can even be your own favorite cold process soap recipe. The next step is to decide your fragrance. This will always depend on your customers, a season, holiday or even a personal choice.  So, next comes the artistic part. The coloring and designing part. How will you design it? Will it be a solid color? Swirls of multiple colors? Plain, uncolored soap is an open canvas to create with. I always believe the colors depend on the fragrance. But, I also have coworkers that love having the option to create soap to match the room, using any fragrance you would like.  Take for example, Melissa, she has red soap to match one of her bathrooms scented with blueberry fragrance oil.  What colors do you see when you smell your scent of choice?

No matter what type of colorant you chose, you have the opportunity to create something that will be almost to beautiful to use. They can be true works of art.

Soap Colorants in Cold Process Soap: About Natures Garden’s FUN Soap Colorants

Before we get started talking about how to use our Fun Soap colorants though, let’s get the details about what they are like. Fun Soaps are actually colored pigments that are dispersed in vegetable glycerin. There are absolutely no chemical preservatives added.  All of our FUN Soap Colorants are vegan.  Using liquid soap pigments which have already been dispersed in vegetable glycerin helps to prevent pigments from clumping in your soap. In addition, it’s already mixed for you, saving you time and frustration. All of these soap colorants work well in melt and pour soap as well as cold process soap.  They are non-bleeding, perform well in high pH environments, and do they not morph during the saponification process. These Fun Soap colorants can also be used in any bath or body product.

Soap Colorants in Cold Process Soap: Oxide ColorsSoap Colorants in Cold Process Soap: Oxide FUN Soap Colors

Now, not all soaps have to be bright and colorful. When you are looking at a plate of brownies or chocolate cake, what comes to mind is yummy, sweet and chocolaty, right? When your products are geared more towards men then you will want something a little more masculine, if you will. The oxide colorants are going to give you deeper, richer colors. These are also perfect if you are in need more “fall-like” colors. Frankincense and Myrrh soap uses a few of the Fun Soap oxide colors, in yellow, brown and orange. These colorants are perfect for creating the colors one would associate with the fragrance oil,  Frankincense and Myrrh. A rich woodsy scent of myrrh, vanilla with a touch of floral to it.

You are only limited by your imagination with Nature’s Garden FUN Soap colorants! Our Creative Team has been hard at work testing all 21 vibrant soap colorants in cold process soap. Weigh out 517 grams of distilled water.  Slowly add 199 grams of lye.  Stir until the lye is dissolved.  Allow your lye to cool to room temperature.  While you are waiting for your lye to cool, weigh out and melt your oils.

Mistletoe CP Soap Recipe Prepare Your Oils

You will need 136 grams apricot oil, 109 grams coconut oil 76, 299 grams grapeseed oil, 476 grams mango butter, 109 castor oil, and 231 grams fractionated coconut oil.  Allow the oils to cool to room temperature.  While you are waiting for the temperatures to come down prepare your colorants.

You will need three small bowls.  To one bowl add 10 grams Lime Green FUN Soap Colorant.  Add 12 grams Kelly Green FUN Soap Colorant.  In the third bowl add 6 drops of the red Soap Colorant.  Also, get your square loaf mold out and ready.

Mistletoe CP Soap Recipe Mixing Oils and LyeMistletoe CP Soap Recipe Pouring the Soap

Once both your oils and lye solution get down to room temperature, add your oils to your lye water.  Stick blend to emulsify.  Then, add 84 grams of Mistletoe and Ivy Fragrance Oil.  Again, stick blend your batter to incorporate the Mistletoe and Ivy Fragrance Oil.

Mistletoe CP Soap Recipe Separating the BatterNext, divide your soap batter.  Pour 200 grams of your soap batter into each of the bowls containing green soap colorant.  Use the stick blender to mix the color into the soap.  For the red portion, you will only need about 15 grams of soap batter.  You will also need to mix the color in by hand.  Once colored, place the batter into a decorating bottle.

Mistletoe CP Soap Recipe Pouring the Green Soap
The uncolored portion of the soap batter can be poured into your mold at a light trace.  Now, begin with the darker green soap batter.  Pour a line of dark down the center of your mold. You want to pour it down the longer length of the mold.  Then, pour the lighter green right on top of the darker green.  Now pour another layer of each color using the same method.

Mistletoe CP Soap Recipe Swirling the LeavesMistletoe CP Soap Recipe Swirling the Leaves and Adding Berries

The green portion of the soap is meant to resemble leaves.  You will see the two green colors you poured will rest on the top of the loaf.  You will use your wooden skewer to swirl the two colors.  Place your skewer in one corner of the mold.  Then, move the skewer in an “S” motion until you get to the other side of the mold.

Mistletoe CP Soap Recipe Adding BerriesFinally,  we will be using the red soap batter to place dots resembling berries.  Using the decorating bottle filled with the red batter add dots to the top of the soap.  You will want to place them either on top of the green soap, or close to them.  Also, keep in mind you will be slicing your loaf.  You may want to pay attention to where you place them.  This way you aren’t slicing right through the middle of a bundle of berries.

Once your soap has set up, after about 24 hours, remove the mistletoe soap from the mold.  Lastly, once it is firm enough, slice it.  Of course, you will want to let it cure before using it.

Sleigh Ride Fragrance OilSleigh Ride Fragrance Oil – Fragrance Oil Spotlight

This scent is not only a perfect holiday scent for Christmas time, but this fragrance is an Natures Garden original as well! We hope that you are happy with this aroma and have a happy holiday season!

What Does Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil Smell Like?

This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is a Christmas Scent. A wonderful blend of pine, apples and cinnamon, bayberry, holly, and a hint of vanilla. An NG Original!

How Do Our Customers Use Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil in Air Freshening Products?

Create beautiful and seasonally appropriate room scenting products of all kinds. Room scenting products, such as potpourri, incense, and reed stick diffusers, can have this Christmas scent included in their recipes at a rate of 50% overall.  Also, aroma bead products that use this pine tree, vanilla, and cinnamon fragrance oil have a nice and strong scent retained.  Another option is creating homemade smelly jelly jars.  Our smelly jelly crystals allow you to create adorable air freshening jar that are perfect for school dorms and bathrooms.

How Do Our Customers Use Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil in Handcrafted Candles?

This holiday season get swept away on a scenic sleigh ride by creating handcrafted candles with our magical Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil.  Candles and wax melts can include up to 10% of this fragrance oil. Pillar of Bliss, WOW Wax, as well as our Joy Wax all will perform perfectly for this scent.  Also, if you are looking for a natural wax, try one of our soy waxes.  We have found that all of the Golden Brands perform wonderfully with Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil.  This includes the 100% Soy Wax 415, Golden Foods 464, and Golden Brands 444. Lastly, our palm waxes.  Both our palm container and our palm pillar waxes perform amazingly well with this scent.  With the wax having a crystallized effect, it reminds me of a blanket of snow covering the candle.  Not only that, but our palm waxes are eco-friendly, coming from sustainable sources.

How Do Our Customers Color Their Room Scenting Products Using Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil?

Are you undecided on how to color your products using Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil?  Our recommendation is using eight drops of green candle colorant and two drops of black liquid candle dye.  Alternatively, you could use an ample amount of shredded green and black color blocks in the wax.  We have chosen these suggestions for a four pound batch.  When coloring your candles and melt with crayons you do risk clogging your wick.  For this reason, we never recommend crayons as a suitable candle colorant.

How Do Our Customers Use Sleigh Ride Fragrance Oil in Bath and Body Products?

While this holiday fragrance oil can be included room scenting products, this scent is not body safe.  Therefore, it can not be used to create bath and body products.  Since this Christmas time fragrance oil is not a body safe scent, bath oils, bath gels, soaps, lotions,  and other related bath and body products can not safely include this fragrance oil.  Even though homemade cleaning products are not meant to be used directly on the body, it is unable to contain this scent due to the opportunity of it coming into contact with skin.

Whether you are using this fragrance oil to add a bit of cheer to your holiday products or just enjoying this scent in your everyday products, we hope that you enjoy this fragrance oil!
