Candle Making for KidsCandle Making for Kids

Arts and crafts are very important for a child to participate in. In the classrooms of today, there is a strong emphasis on the common cores of learning. Math, reading, writing, and science. Today, we will talk about candle making for kids.

However, the arts are just as important for a child’s growth as math can be. Learning about the world of creativity allows a child’s mind to develop in all kinds of directions. It’s never to early to start letting a child’s creative side take over. Simply holding a crayon, a paintbrush or a piece of chalk will start developing their motor skills. Their language will take shape as they learn words of description and colors. Decision making is also part of the creative process. “How do I want this to look?” “What color should the bird be?” Visual learning is very important because it gives the brain the freedom to explore, relax and not think of anything complex! Candle making for kids is a fun craft that lets kids explore texture, color, scents and all things creative!

Most kids love making and creating things for people they love. As a child, it was one of my favorite things to do. Nature’s Garden has some awesome recipes if you are looking for something different for the kids to explore. Creating candles with our Pillar of Bliss is a quick and simple craft for kids and parents. Not only is it safe, as there is no heating required, but you are able to let your creativity shine with designs, fragrances, and colors! If your child has ever made one of those “sand in jar” crafts, the technique is very similar.

Candle Making for Kids: Before You Get Started

Before you begin your creations, you will need to gather some supplies!

Candle Making for Kids: Pillar of Bliss

The type of wax that is best used in layering candles is our Pillar of Bliss. This wax is a soy/paraffin blend that is perfect for creating pillar candles or candles in molds. The wax hardens up beautifully and releases from the molds easily. It also makes wonderful layered candles! It lets you get creative without all the hassle of melting wax! Plus, it has amazing cold and hot throw!

Candle Making for Kids: Let’s Learn the Process!

Before we start on some of our favorite candle recipes, let’s talk about how the process of granulated candle making is done! As with any candle making prep, you will want to get your container ready by putting in your wicks. Which size wick do you use, you ask? Follow this link to find out the correct size! Now, simply add a drop of hot glue to the bottom of the candle wick tab and secure it to the bottom of your container, right in the middle. If the wick is to long, simply snip the excess off leaving at least 1 1/2 inch above your container.

Candle Making for Kids: Getting the Wax Ready

When it comes to layered candle making, fill each Ziploc bag with have their own color/fragrance mix. If you plan on making a lot of candles you can make your colored/scented layers in one pound batches. So let’s get your wax ready to color and scent. Using the gallon size Ziploc bags, you will weigh out your wax according to your recipe into the required number of bags. If your candle recipe calls for 6 layers, you will be using 6 bags and the wax will be divided and weighed out into each one.

Candle Making For Kids: Adding your Fragrances

As with any type of candle making, a general rule of thumb for adding fragrance oil to your wax is using 1 to 1 1/2 ounces per pound of wax. Therefore, each bag that holds 1 pound of wax will require 1 to 1 1/2 ounce of fragrance oil.

Candle Making for Kids: Adding the Color

Next, you will be adding color to each Ziploc bag. You will add the required number of drops according to your recipe, or simply add a small amount to achieve the color you wish.

Candle Making for Kids: Mixing it Up

Now that we have our wax, fragrance, and color added in, seal the bag tightly, and shake each bag, mixing the wax, fragrance and color up really well! Squeeze and squish it good! Get all that color worked in!

Candle Making for Kids: Adding the Wax to the Containers

Now that your wax is mixed up, you will start adding it to your container of choice. Simply open up your Ziploc bag a start pouring into your container. If you are layering colors, make sure you leave enough room! Always keep your wick straight when you are filling your containers. Continue adding the other colored wax layers the same way until your container is almost full.

Candle Making for Kids: Getting creative

Want to create a tie dye look? Take one of your wooden skewers and along the inside of your glass container and draw lines going down. Gently tap your container on the counter once you have drawn the lines and the colored wax from one layer will fall into these lines!

Candle Making for Kids: Bacon Candle Recipe

Our first recipe is incredibly simple and a good way to start kids out on the road to candle making. Bacon Candle recipe calls for Pillar of Bliss, our Spectrum Liquid Candle dye in shades of red, and of course our Bacon fragrance oil. Bacon fragrance oil? Yes, indeed! Smells just like bacon frying in a frying pan! Everything’s better with bacon, right? For this recipe, you will start off by separating the wax into 3 different Ziploc baggies, adding drops of colorant and then the Bacon fragrance. Next, your little candle maker will then massage the colors and scent it into the wax. Once that is done, simply pour the now scented/colored wax into your container, creating a layered look of bacon. This candle is perfect for younger kids to help create since there is no melting wax involved!

Candle Making for Kids Autumn Leaves Potpourri Recipe

Up next is a fun, fall recipe that requires a little bit of heat for melting. Even though this recipe is still quick and easy, some adult supervision is a requirement since some of the wax will be melted. The cute little leaves in our Autumn Leaves Potpourri recipe, are made with  Pillar of Bliss and colored with some pretty fall colors. We made these leaves with a mold from Flexiblemolds.com. These molds are durable, easy to clean up and are perfect for any candle or soap making! This particular mold is called dime sized Leaves candle and soap mold.  We scented this potpourri with our Autumn Woods fragrance oil. A lovely, fall woodsy scent of pine, citrus and cedar wood! We used 24 K Gold Mica to color the granulated part of the candle. These potpourris are so easy to make! They would make such pretty little gifts to give!

Candle Making for Kids: Green Camouflage Candle RecipeCandle Making for Kids: Green Camouflage Candle Recipe

Here’s another easy recipe that the young ones can definitely help out with! This Green Camouflage Candle is made just like our Bacon Candle. You will color and scent the wax in a bag and then create layers of various greens and browns to look like the camouflage that our brave soldiers wear. The fragrance we chose for this recipe is our Fresh Outdoors. This fragrance is perfect for those that love a fresh, green fragrance! You will get floral notes of lily and jasmine, orange and ozone. Perfect for those that love the outdoors! Your kids will have fun creating camo layers so let their imagination take over!

Candle Making for Kids: Pink Camouflage Candle RecipeCandle Making for Kids: Pink Camouflage Candle Recipe

Well, the boys got to make their own candle, now for the girls’ candle! Pink Camouflage Candle is made exactly like the Green Camouflage! We chose the fragrance oil NG Can Can Fragrance Oil for the ultimate girly girl, camouflage and all! This scent is floral with a touch of vanilla and musk! Your little girl will have a blast making her own candle in pretty shades of pink, red and burgundy.

Candle Making for Kids: Rainbow Candle RecipeCandle Making for Kids: Rainbow Candle Recipe

This Rainbow Candle recipe would be fun to make when teaching kids the colors of the rainbow. This candle is truly simple to create and a definite must for the little ones to help make. Once the kids have finished squishing the color and fragrance into the wax using the Ziploc bag method, they can carefully pour their wax into the container to create a layered look of a rainbow. It couldn’t get any easier than that, right? We chose our fittingly Rainbow fragrance oil that smells like it’s just bursting with color! Yummy, sweet fruit of every kind hits your nose with one whiff!

Candle Making for Kids: Glistening Snowflakes Potpourri RecipeCandle Making for Kids: Glistening Snowflakes Potpourri Recipe

Here is another potpourri recipe made like the Autumn Leaves recipe. Glistening Snowflakes Potpourri has pretty little blue snowflakes scattered throughout the glistening “snow”. Once again, we have used a mold from Flexiblemolds.com. This mold is the Mini Snowflakes candle and soap mold. We have added some Diamond Dust Mica to the granulated wax to make it shimmer and have scented the whole thing, the snowflakes and the snow, with our Jack Frost fragrance oil. The scent is a perfect wintry mix of peppermint and vanilla!

Candle Making for Kids: Hydrangea Candle RecipeCandle Making for Kids: Hydrangea Candle Recipe

What could be more perfect for spring or summer than our Hydrangea Candle Recipe? Hydrangeas are bushes that bloom beautiful hues of blues, purples and sometimes greens. We created the pattern to mimic the puffy blossoms of the hydrangea. The finishing touch is some cute little embed butterflies (because butterflies are attracted to hydrangeas). Of course, we scented this creation with our Hydrangea Heaven! This fragrance oil is a beautiful, soft floral scent that is perfect in candles and in soap making!

Candle Making for Kids: A Final Note

Making granulated candles are great for fundraisers! Use your school’s colors and get a copy of the mascot artwork. You can create a label with the mascot and school name then adhere to the front of your containers. If you have a special charity event that you are donating too, how about creating candles in the colors of the charity? Pink and white for Breast Cancer Awareness, purple for Cystic Fibrosis or red, white and blue for patriotism. There are so many options! You are only limited by your imagination!

We hope you enjoyed reading about all the fun candles kids can help create. Candle making in itself can seem daunting to anybody who has never made candles in their life. So, if you are a first timer, these recipes are perfect for you! Learning the steps, and the process of candle making is easy and these recipes can help you get started on a fun new hobby! Don’t forget the kids though! Helping kids develop through arts and crafts is an important part of growing and learning! We are sure they will enjoy making candles and memories just as much as you!

How cute and festive is this soap? We chose our very patriotic Independent fragrance oil. This unique complex fragrance starts with refreshing crisp citrus notes of fresh orange slices, lime, and lemon zests;  middle notes of tulip and daffodil,  well-rounded with a smooth musky background.

  • Mixing Spoons
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Hand Mixer
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Microwave
  • Scale
  • Cherries Mold (flexiblemolds.com)

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Before You Get Started

Now it’s time to get started making these sweet bath time treats, but before you do it’s always important to clean and sanitize your work area, your equipment and all of your packaging materials. Also, prepare a bottle of rubbing alcohol with a sprayer on top. This is to help prevent air bubbles in your soaps. In addition, it is suggested that you wear gloves, protective clothing, and a hair net while preparing this recipe. Lastly, have all your ingredients and equipment handy. When creating recipes, it’s always good to have everything right where you need it to keep the process moving smoothly.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing Your Cherries

Your first step in creating the cherry chocolate soaps is making the cherries. Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing Your CherriesFor this, you will need a Cherry mold. We are using the Cherries mold from Flexiblemolds.com. These molds are amazing to work with for both soaps and candles. They are durable, flexible and clean up in a snap!  So, go ahead and chop up your Diamond Clear melt and pour into chunks and add 150 grams to a microwavable safe bowl. Melt your soap in 30 second intervals, in the microwave, until melted. Then, once the soap is in a liquid state, add 6 grams of Cherry fragrance oil, 6 grams of Vanilla White Color Stabilizer and 2 drops of Tomato Red FUN Soap.

As a side note: we will only be adding Vanilla White Color Stabilizer to this part of the recipe. Cherry Fragrance Oil has a small percentage of vanillin it. Vanillin is an ingredient in some fragrance oils. It can cause your product to turn brown, so as a preventative measure we will be adding some Vanilla White.

Now, mix this well to incorporate the ingredients and to make sure the colorant is well distributed. You will want a nice, bright cherry red!

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Total Recipe Amounts for the Cherries

  • 150 grams Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap
  • 6 grams Cherry Fragrance Oil
  • 6 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer
  • 2 drops Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant

Next, pour the soap into the Cherries mold and allow to setup for at least an hour. Once they have cooled and hardened, you can remove the cherries from the mold and set them aside. These will be used later.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing the Bottom LayerCherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing the Bottom Layer

Next, you will be preparing the bottom layer of the soap. Go ahead and chop up your Cocoa Butter melt and pour soap into chunks. Weigh out 45 grams into a microwavable bowl. Microwave this in 30 second bursts until the soap is at its liquid state. Now you will add 2 grams of Cherry Fragrance Oil. You will also add 3 drops of Brown Oxide and 6 drops of Black Oxide FUN Soap Colorant. Mix these ingredients well. Your soap should have a nice dark, black-brown color to it.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Total Recipe Amounts for Bottom Layer

  • 45 grams Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Soap
  • 2 grams Cherry Fragrance Oil
  • 3 drops Brown Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
  • 6 drops Black Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Pouring the Bottom LayerCherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Pouring the Bottom Layer

Now that our bottom layer batter is mixed well, you can pour the melted soap base into each cavity of the silicone mini muffin mold. This layer will only be 1/4 inch. So, you will only need to pour a small amount into each of the 12 cavities. When you have finished, give your soap a light spray with the rubbing alcohol. You will let this setup and cool before moving on.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing the Whipped Soap Layer Part 1Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing the Whipped Soap Layer Part 1

The next step will be preparing the whipped topping layer. First, in a clean bowl, weigh out 145 grams of Whipped Soap. Then, add in 5 grams of Cocoa powder, 14 grams of Vegetable Glycerin and 13 grams of Cherry Fragrance Oil. You can now use the hand mixer and mix the whipped soap base into a frosting consistency.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing the Whipped Soap Layer Part 2Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Preparing the Whipped Soap Layer Part 2

The second part of the whipped soap will be the addition of some cocoa butter melt and pour soap. In a separate bowl, weigh out 145 grams of the cocoa butter melt and pour. In 30 second intervals, melt your soap until it is liquid. Then you can add this to the whipped soap base. Take your mixer and once again, whip until “frosting-like”.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Total Recipe Amounts Chocolate Whipped Soap Layer

  • 145 grams Whipped Soap Base
  • 145 grams Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 5 grams Cocoa Powder
  • 14 grams Vegetable Glycerin
  • 13 grams Cherry Fragrance Oil

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Adding the Whipped Topping

Now that you have your “frosting” is ready, you will be topping off the cupcakes. Before you start, give the bottom layers of your soap another quick spritz of alcohol and then using a spoon, dollop your frosting on top, filling the remaining portion of the mold. Allow these to set up before removing from the mold. Once they are ready to remove, you can set them aside on a paper plate.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Making the Red DrizzleCherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Making the Red Drizzle

So now our soaps are ready for decorating! We will be making the red drizzle in this step. In a clean bowl, weigh out 15 grams of Diamond Clear Melt and Pour. As done in previous steps, melt the soap in 30 second intervals until it as its liquid state. Next, add in 2 drops of Tomato Red FUN Soap and mix well. You should have a nice, bright cherry red.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Total Recipe Amounts for the Red Drizzles

  • 15 grams Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap
  • 2 drops Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Adding the Red DrizzleCherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Adding the Red Drizzle

Using a small spoon, drizzle the tops of your finished soap bottoms with the cherry red soap. No need to be fancy! You are going for a homemade look to these soaps! Since this drizzle will be acting as the “glue” for the cherries on top, it is important that you add the cherries before the drizzle sets up.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Topping off with the CherriesCherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Topping off with the Cherries

So now you need to add the cherries we made earlier to the tops. Simply take 3 soap cherries and place on top of the red drizzled tops of your soap. As long as the red drizzle has not set up the cherries should adhere soap.

Cherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Making the Chocolate DrizzleCherry Chocolate Soap Recipe: Making the Chocolate Drizzle

Next up comes the chocolate drizzle. In another clean bowl, weigh out and melt 15 grams of Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Soap. Once it is liquid, add 3 drops of Brown Oxide FUN Soap and 1 drop of Black Oxide FUN Soap to create a nice, chocolate brown.

  • 15 grams Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 3 drops Brown Oxide FUN Soap Colorant
  • 1 drop Black Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

Just like you did with the red drizzle, take a spoon and drizzle your “chocolate” over the tops of your cherries.

Raspberry Fragrance OilsRaspberry Fragrance Oils

It’s almost summertime! My favorite season of the year. I adore the sun, the heat, swimming and camping! Also, summer is cookouts, bonfires, ice cream cones and thunderstorms. The list is endless when it comes to summertime activities. Summer also brings out some amazing smells. If you live in the country, on a farm or just like to take a drive through the country, then you are aware of the wide range of smells you can get. There are good smells, like fresh cut hay, fresh cut grass, honeysuckle, and the air after it rains. Then there are some *ahem* not so good smells. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to list those as we are very aware what those might be.  Summer also brings out the gardens of flowers, fruits and vegetables! Sunflowers, raspberries and corn on the cob are just some of the best things about summertime.  Nature’s Garden has just some of the best smelling raspberry fragrance oils. So, if you are looking for some new summertime fragrances to enhance or add to your line of products, we are sure you will find something to help you out!

www.naturesgardencandles.com/kaolin-clay-powder-cosmetics.htmlWhat is Kaolin Clay Used For?

Kaolin Clay powder is one of Nature’s Garden most popular cosmetic additives we offer.  It can be utilized in a variety of different ways. What is kaolin clay used for? Kaolin Clay, also called China Clay, is a white clay that is found in the soils of hot, moist climates. This clay is perfect for those with sensitive skin or those who are prone to acne breakouts. Kaolin can be used to create mineral makeup such as foundation, eye shadow, and blush. China Clay is also a wonderful thickening agent that is a perfect ingredient for bath bombs. Kaolin Clay is a perfect addition to sugar scrubs, salt scrubs and facial masks. Like most clays, Kaolin helps cleanse the skin and remove toxins. If you are creating soap, this clay is useful in being a fragrance fixative.

Below, we will talk about the many ways you can utilize Kaolin Clay powder in many creations. We will also share some popular recipes that use kaolin clay. You may find that if you are having trouble with a recipe you are using, or just wanting to find a new ingredient to enhance an old recipe, give the following a read. You might just find what you have been looking for!

What is Kaolin Clay Used For: Using Kaolin Clay for Acne

Many have found that kaolin clay is wonderful for acne and those who have sensitive skin. It is the mildest of clays and is perfect for soaking up oil. Kaolin Clay powder can be used on various types of skin conditions. Whether its rashes or inflammation from break-outs, Kaolin is very good at soothing irritated skin.

Kaolin Clay Powder can be used alone or in combination with other products to help lessen acne breakouts.  Our Tea Tree Soap is a perfect example. Not only is the Kaolin perfect for oily skin and acne breakouts, but Tea Tree oil is also beneficial for these type of skin ailments. Kaolin helps with balancing the oils in the skin. Tea Tree Essential Oil is perfect for penetrating those clogged up pores, loosening up dirt and will help control and possibly prevent breakouts. This soap is quick and simple to make using our Hemp melt and pour soap base as your starting point.

What is Kaolin Clay Used For: Using Kaolin Clay for Soaps

Kaolin is rich in potassium, titanium and silicon. These elements help to produce the formation of collagen. When wet, Kaolin is smooth, silky and creamy which in turn, will give your soap the same feeling. Kaolin is also helpful in retaining moisture in the body, soaks up dirt and toxins. Your skin will feel deeply cleansed without that tight, dry feeling you can get from regular soap.

We said in the above paragraph that there are a few good reasons to use Kaolin Clay in any type of soap recipe. It can be used as a fragrance fixative. This may help during any cold or hot process soaping as creating soap from scratch can be rough on fragrance oils. Another good reason for using Kaolin Clay is that when you create a paste with it, this will help you to create swirls in melt and pour soap, adding some decorative flair to your soap creations. It is also a good natural colorant to help give some white color to your soap if you wish.

The second recipe is our Moonlight Tuberose Swirled Soap. This soap also starts off with a melt and pour soap base, this time we chose Yogurt. This soap has 4 swirled colors in it, all using clay powders to help get those fun swirls! We used the colors of the fragrance oil picture for inspiration of this soap. Moonlight Tuberose fragrance oil was used to give this soap its scent. A soft, feminine scent that smells of apples, pears, lily of the valley, jasmine and of course tuberose.

What is Kaolin Used For: Creating Bath Bombs

14 Ways To Use Arrowroot Powder14 Ways To Use Arrowroot Powder

Arrowroot Powder is one of the most versatile products in the market today. It can be used in anything from cooking to all types of bath products, such as, soap, bath bombs, cosmetics, deodorants, lotions and even in cleaning products.  The list of possibilities are endless. Below, we have 14 ways to use arrowroot powder. We hope you are able to be inspired to create some fun, and even some natural products to add to you line of products or even for just your personal use. Before we get started though, let’s talk a little about where Arrowroot Powder comes from and what exactly Arrowroot is.

14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: How It's Made14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: How It’s Made

Maranta arundinacea, or more commonly known as arrowroot, dates back to more than 7,000 years ago,  when this powder was first discovered as being used in food by the Caribbean Arawak people. This plant is native to tropical areas such as, western Brazil and Guyana. However, this multi functional root is cultivated in such countries such as, Australia, South Africa and the West Indies.

The powder itself comes from the rhizomes, or the roots, of the plant. The roots are first washed, and then cleaned of the paper-like scales. The scales must be carefully removed before extracting the starch because they impart a disagreeable flavor. Once the scales are completely removed, the roots are washed again, drained and reduced to a pulp by beating them in mortars or grinding them with a wheel rasp. The milky liquid that is obtained is then passed through a coarse cloth. The pure starch, which is insoluble, is allowed to settle at the bottom. The wet starch is then dried in the sun or in a drying house. The result is a starchy powder, ready to be packed in airtight containers and shipped.

Arrowroot Powder can be used in everything from cooking, cosmetics to even medicinal uses. Arrowroot is starchy and makes a wonderful natural, thickening alternative to flour or cornstarch. This powder is fat free, gluten free, and low in salt. You can treat sunburns, blemishes and rashes with arrowroot. When used in cosmetics, bath and body products, it works as a thickening agent. It is also good at absorbing moisture and aids in keeping your skin dry.

14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Pink Lemonade Scrub Recipe

Our first recipe using arrowroot is our Pink Lemonade Scrub. Scrubs are incredibly popular nowadays.  Salt or sugar, pumice or black walnut hulls, scrubs are an easy way to help slough away dead skin cells without being harsh on your skin. This recipe is not only fresh and colorful, it’s full of skin softening ingredients. Sugar is the main ingredient and we all generally have sugar in our house. Cocoa butter, Sunflower Oil, Vitamin E and Arrowroot Powder are just a few. The scent inspiration for this scrub was our Raspberry Lemonade fragrance oil that smells true to its name. Tart lemons, raspberries and sugar.

14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Activated Charcoal Scrub Recipe14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Activated Charcoal Scrub Recipe

Another skin care product that is all the rage these days is charcoal. Charcoal is awesomely natural at detoxifying and exfoliating the skin. There are so many products out in the market using charcoal in masks, nose strips and scrubs, but it’s easy to make your own! Our Activated Charcoal Scrub is a definite in the natural department. The skin loving ingredients include, shea and mango butter, macadamia nut oil, coconut oil, activated charcoal and of course, arrowroot powder to help bind it all together. We chose our Black Linen & Amber fragrance oil. This scent is a unisex blend of crisp cotton, white blossoms with undertones of musk, amber and patchouli. A very deep, sexy fragrance.

12 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Shaving Soap For Sensitive Skin14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Shaving Soap For Sensitive Skin

I love shaving soap. It lasts so much longer than the shaving cream you get in a can. It is super easy to make and with 3 bars, you will have shaving soap for a while. This Shaving Soap For Sensitive Skin uses our Shea Butter Melt and Pour soap. There are no detergents or SLS in this soap which makes it perfect for those that have skin that will easily break out. We used arrowroot powder that will help leave your skin soft, smooth and hydrated. We used a simple fragrance oil for this soap. Our Natural Vanilla Infusion (35 fold) oil. Smells yummy and natural. Perfect for such a simple recipe.

14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub Recipe14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub Recipe

Our next recipe is a sugar scrub that uses brown sugar instead of the usual white sugar. No matter! You get the same exfoliating benefits with this Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub just the same as you would with the white. We have used Shea and cocoa butters, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed and Coconut Oil, and some Vitamin E. We used our arrowroot powder to help give this scrub a thickened consistency, but my favorite part is the Vanilla Powder that we used. This powder is the yummiest smelling vanilla you can have!  To double the vanilla impact, we chose our Vanilla Extract fragrance oil that smells exactly like the kind used in baking. Crisp, vanilla with a soft touch of tang to it.

14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Fizzy Milk Bath Recipe14 Ways to Use Arrowroot Powder: Fizzy Milk Bath Recipe

Did you know milk is actually good for your skin? Not just for drinking, but for soaking in? It softens, hydrates, and can soothe irritated skin. We suggest you don’t though. This scrub may have sugar in it, but it’s still not edible. Giraffe Bubble Bar RecipeGiraffe Bubble Bar Recipe

Did you know? The CEO of Nature’s Garden, Deborah Ward and her love for giraffes is the inspiration behind this creative and unique bubble bar? Bubble bars are a fun way to have a nice long soak in a warm tub. Simply, crumble up your bubble bar into some warm water and enjoy the abundance of bubbles that fill your tub! Whether you create this for personal use, friends and family or are just looking for a new addition to your line of bath and body products, we at Nature’s Garden hope you will enjoy creating our newest recipe to join the bubble bar family! Enjoy our Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe!

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Let’s talk About the Ingredients

Before starting on our recipe, we’ll talk about some of the ingredients we are using. The first ingredient is what gives the bubble bar its bubbles! Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, or SCI.  This gentle surfactant is derived from coconut. It is a foaming and cleansing agent that will leave your skin silky and smooth!

Baking soda is best know for it’s cleaning and deodorizing properties. This gentle alkaline is amazing at leaving the skin soft and smooth, as well as your hair too!

Cream of tartar will give your product a light and fluffy feeling. It acts as a stabilizer and helps the other ingredients adhere to each other.

Corn Starch is the perfect ingredient to help sooth irritated skin and it also leaves your skin soft! The fragrance we chose was our Cucumber Fragrance Oil. This is a popular seller here at Nature’s Garden. True cucumber scent with an undertone of violet.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Total Weights and Amounts

  • 224 grams (2/3 cup) Cream of Tartar

  • 6 drops Red Oxide Fun Soap Colorant

Note: While we give you both weight and volume measurements, we highly recommend using a scale as the weight measurements will be more precise amounts.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Prepping Your Supplies and Work Area

As with any recipe you should always prep your supplies and work area. This helps in creating your craft without stopping to look for your ingredients. First thing is to clean your work space and ensure that you have enough room to work and lay your dough down. Next, give your utensils and scale a quick clean with some soap and water. Lastly, have all your ingredients ready for measuring and withing easy reach! For sanitary reasons go ahead and put your rubber safety gloves on.  Just a few preventative steps will help things move along smoothly!

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing and Combining the Dry IngredientsGiraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing and Combining the Dry Ingredients

Our first step will be measuring and combining our dry ingredients. You will need a large mixing bowl and your scale. Set your scale to grams.  Next, weigh out 410 grams of Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, 460 grams of Sodium Bicarbonate- Baking Soda, 224 grams of Cream of Tartar, and 72 grams of Corn Starch. Give these ingredients a nice mixing with your hands, breaking up any clumps as you go.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing and Combining the Wet IngredientsGiraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing and Combining the Wet Ingredients

Next comes the wet stuff! You will need another mixing bowl ( or you can simply add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredient bowl) and your gram scale. Now weigh out 200 grams of Vegetable Glycerin, 24 grams of Sesame Seed Oil and 14 grams of Cucumber Fragrance Oil.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Mixing Everything Together

Let’s add the wet and dry ingredients together! If you have mixed your wet ingredients separately go ahead and dump them in with your dry. If you add your wet straight to the dry you can start mixing with your hands making sure that you are breaking up any lumps as you go. Mix until you have the right consistency (you should have a nice, smooth workable dough). If your dough is to crumbly after mixing together, you can add a bit more vegetable glycerin. Be careful to not add too much or the bubble bar will not set up properly.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Separating the Bubble Bar Dough

The third step in our recipe will be separating the bubble bar dough. For this you will need your 2 mixing bowls. You will divide the dough into 2 equal portions. Each portion will be a different color. We have included a color chart to help you achieve the correct color for the spots and the “skin” of the giraffe.

Bowl 1:

  • Brown Oxide- 6 drops
  • Orange Oxide- 3 drops
  •  Black Oxide- 6 drops
  •  Red Oxide- 6 drops

Bowl 2:

  • Yellow Oxide- 3 drops

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Making the Brown Colored PortionGiraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Making the Brown Colored Portion

Now that your dough is separated, let’s start adding color.  We will work on the spots and inner color of the bubble bar. To the first bowl, add your 6 drops of Brown Oxide, 3 drops of Orange Oxide, 6 drops of Black Oxide and 6 drops of Red Oxide FUN Soap Colorant. With your gloved hands mix the colorant into your dough until you have achieved an orange brown color.  Roll the dough into a ball and set it aside, for now.

Giraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Making the Yellow Colored PortionGiraffe Bubble Bar Recipe: Making the Yellow Colored Portion

Next, let’s create the “skin” color of the giraffe. For this you will add 3 drops of Yellow Oxide FUN Soap colorant to your second bowl of dough. With clean gloved hands mix this colorant into your dough until you have a nice, pale yellow color.

Giraffe Bubble Bar: Getting Ready to Roll the Layers

Now that our dough is separated and colored, we are ready to start rolling the layers. For this step you will use your silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Dust whichever you have chosen to use with some baking soda. This will help keep the dough from sticking when it is time to roll the dough. You should also dust your rolling pin with some baking soda to help prevent sticking.

Giraffe Bubble Bar: Rolling out the First LayerGiraffe Bubble Bar: Rolling out the First Layer

Our first layer will be the yellow layer. Go ahead and take your yellow dough ball and lay it in the center of the surface of your mat or paper. Now roll your ball into a flat, rectangular shape.  You will want this layer about 1/4 inch in thickness.

Giraffe Bubble Bar: Laying Down the Second LayerGiraffe Bubble Bar: Laying Down the Second Layer

Next up is our Orange brown layer. Before you start rolling, however, you need to pull of about 30 grams of the dough and set this aside. This portion will be for the spots. Place the remaining dough in the center of the yellow rectangle dough and start rolling this layer out. You may add some baking soda to your rolling pin before you start to prevent sticking. Roll this layer out to the size or as close to the size of the yellow layer and at 1/4 inch thick. Once you have finished, you will be all set to move onto rolling the bubble bar dough into a loaf.

Giraffe Bubble Bar: Rolling Up The Bubble Bar

Now that your layers are rolled out, you are ready to roll them into a loaf. Turn your silicone mat or parchment paper so that the mat or paper is vertical. Lift up on the edge of the paper or mat that is closest to your body. Begin to carefully roll the dough in the same way you would a pumpkin roll. Slowly roll the dough evenly as you go, watching to make sure everything stays lined up.

Giraffe Bubble Bar: Adding the spotsGiraffe Bubble Bar: Adding the spots

Now that your dough is in its rolled up completely, we will begin using the orange brown colored dough we set aside to create our “spots”. Giraffe spots are not perfect in size and shape. This is the look you will want to go for. Pull off irregular size pieces of the reserved dough and add it to the yellow portion of your bubble bar. (Having trouble getting a good pattern in your head? Try Googling “giraffe” and find a pattern you can follow!)  Once your loaf is completely covered you will be ready to slice it up into individual bars.

Giraffe Bubble Bar: Slicing your Finished ProductGiraffe Bubble Bar: Slicing your Finished Product

Let’s cut this loaf into slices! This recipe will make about 8 slices, depending on how thick you choose to slice your loaf. Using a sharp knife, slice the bubble bar into 1-2 inch slices. Once your loaf is completely sliced, lay the portions out on a flat surface to set up. Our bubble bars took approximately 48-72 hours to set up completely. This may take longer, depending on the climate of your  environment.

Your Giraffe Bubble Bar is ready to use! When it’s bath time, simply crumble a slice of bar under warm, running bath water and enjoy the bubbles that will froth up into your tub and have a nice, long soak! You will emerge from your bath smelling sweet, fresh and feeling soft and clean!

Did You Know?Did You Know?

Have you ever looked at the beauty of a giraffe? I mean, really watched them when you visit a zoo?  They are amazing creatures! Majestic in their movements, they roam the open grasslands in small groups. A giraffe’s height is both an advantage and a disadvantage. While towering at a height ranging from 14 to 18 feet tall they have the ability to spot predators. Their height helps them eat from the leaves of trees since the disadvantage in their height is bending down. It is incredibly difficult for them and it leaves them in a vulnerable state to be attacked.  Luckily, giraffes only need to drink once every several days since most of their water intake is from the leaves they consume. They can also run a steady 35 miles an hour over short distances and comfortably at 10 miles per hour over longer distances.

Giraffes are truly beautiful animals and their eyelashes! They are to die for! Another fun giraffe fact is that a group of giraffes are called a tower! Kind of fitting, right? Towers usually consist of females and babies, however genders will vary and they can come and go as they please.
