Rustic Tree Trunk Soap RecipeRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe

Lately, we have been looking to bring the outdoors in with some of our fragrance fun recipes.  Well, this soap recipe does just that.  Our next soap making recipe was inspired by, what else, nature.  Natures Garden is getting back to nature with this tree trunk inspired soap scented with Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil.  So, read below to find out how we made our Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Some of the Ingredients We Will Be Using

Before we begin, we will talk about some of the ingredients we will be using.  It is important to understand the importance of some of the ingredients in this recipe.  Each item we will be using has a purpose and we will talk about some of these below.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Crackling Firewood Fragrance OilRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Crackling Firewood Fragrance Oil

Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil by Natures Garden is a masculine arrangement that begins with top notes of herbaceous pine, balsam, and citrus bergamot; leading to middle notes of white flowers and earthy sandalwood; sitting on base notes of woodsy patchouli and violet.  Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil is one of our best selling candle and soap scents.  It is popular all year long, but is even more popular in the fall and winter months.

Top Notes: pine, balsam, bergamot
Mid Notes: white flowers, sandalwood
Base Notes: patchouli, violet

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Soya Milk Melt and Pour Soap Base

Next, we will talk about the soap base we will be using in this soap recipe.  Our Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe uses Natures Garden’s Soya Milk Melt and Pour Soap Base.  This soap base is wonderful.  It will leave you with a fabulous squeaky clean feeling.  Our soya milk melt and pour soap comes in a two pound slab that has guide lines to help you cut.  In addition,  this base contains no SLS and no added detergents. Of course, none of our products are tested on animals.   Finally, all of our soap bases are gluten-free.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: FUN Soap ColorantsRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: FUN Soap Colorants

First, you should know that the FUN Soap Colorants are simply pigments dispersed in vegetable glycerin.  They are my favorite colorants to work with.  One half ounce of a FUN Soap Colorant will color about ten pounds of soap when used in a white soap base.  The main reason why these are my favorite colorant is because it is so easy to get a nice bright color in white melt and pour soap.  In addition, these soap dyes a perfect in cold process soap.  They come through true to color in any type of soap.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Vanilla White Color StabilizerRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Vanilla White Color Stabilizer

Natures Garden is often asked about Vanilla White Color Stabilizer.  So, I thought I would take a minute to talk about our vanilla white.  This is used in a variety of bath and body products, but it is not for use in candles.  When used in a body product, it will help prevent discoloration when it is caused by the vanillin.  While there are a ton of ingredients that can cause discoloration it is most often the vanilla content that causes it.  So, vanilla white will prevent this type of discoloration.  However, it will not prefect discoloration caused by other ingredients.  So, if the fragrance oil does not have a vanillin content listed in the description, do not use vanilla white.

We are also asked about the usage rate and the aroma of the Vanilla White Color Stabilizer.  First, our recommendation usage rate for vanilla white is one part fragrance oil to one part vanilla white.  So, in this recipe, we use 58 grams of the Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil, so we use 58 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer.  In addition, I would like to mention that yes, the vanilla white does have an aroma to it.  However, we have never experienced a time that the aroma of the stabilizer over-powered any of our fragrance oils.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Glad Press'n SealRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Glad Press’n Seal

Next, let’s talk about the Glad plastic wrap that we used.  Now, we tried a few different methods, including regular plastic wrap to achieve the tree trunk look in our soap.  However, since the plastic wrap is thicker, it worked perfectly.  The Pess’n Seal Wrap creased perfectly and allowed us to create folds in the wrap that looked like tree bark.  The Glad Press’n Seal Wrap can be purchased at your local grocery store.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Vegetable GlycerinRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Vegetable Glycerin

In this recipe, we use vegetable glycerin for our Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe.  We use the vegetable glycerin to make the melt and pour soap pliable.  We will start by pouring the brown soap into a cake pan, then, it will be removed and placed into the mold.  The addition of vegetable glycerin allows us to shape the brown soap, bending it to the shape of the mold without breaking or cracking.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Prior to Starting

Before you begin preparing this melt and pour soap recipe, we recommend wearing protective clothing along with a hair net and gloves.  Also, go ahead and clean your work area and place all of your supplies in the area that you will be working.  Finally, in your bullet bottle, add rubbing alcohol and place one of your fine mist sprayers on top.  Now, you are ready to begin making your tree trunk melt and pour soap.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Prepare Your Cake PanRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Prepare Your Cake Pan

Prior to melting your soap, you will need to prepare you cake pan for your rustic tree trunk soap.  This pan will be used for the brown portion of the soap once it is melted.  So, place your pan in front of you.  Then, cover the bottom of the pan with the Press’n Seal Wrap.  Next, you want to bunch the plastic wrap up a bit.  The goal is to create vertical creases in the wrap.  This is what will create the bark like look in the soap.  Once you have prepared your pan, go ahead and move on to preparing your soap.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Prepare Your Brown SoapRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Prepare Your Brown Soap

First, we will prepare our brown soap.  So go ahead and get your cake pan out.  Then, cut up, weigh, and melt 300 grams Soya Milk Melt and Pour Soap.  You want to melt your mp soap base in thirty second intervals in the microwave until the soya milk soap is in a liquid state.  Make sure you are using a microwave safe dish.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Prepare Your Brown SoapOnce your soap is melted, add 15 grams Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil.  Then, add your colorant.  You will need to add 7 grams brown oxide FUN Soap Colorant and 4 grams black oxide FUN Soap Colorant.  Mix to incorporate your colorant.  Finally, add 30 grams of your vegetable glycerin.  Stir to fully blend all of your ingredients.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Pouring Your Brown SoapRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Pouring Your Brown Soap

Once your pan is prepared, lined with wrap and your soap is ready, it is time for your brown tree trunk soap to be poured.  So, now, we will be pouring your brown soap.  Place your pan in front of you and pour the melted soap into the cake pan.  You want to fill the about half of the pan.  Then, spray the poured soap with rubbing alcohol to remove any air bubbles that have formed in the soap base from pouring.  Finally, allow the soap to setup before moving on.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Placing Your Brown Soap Into the Round MoldRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Placing Your Brown Soap Into the Round Mold

Once your brown soap has setup, go ahead and remove it from the cake pan.  You will notice that the soap is flexible, this is due to the addition of the vegetable glycerin.  We will trim and shape this to the shape of round loaf mold.  It will need to be the exact size of the mold.  So, trim the soap to the length of the soap mold.  Then, place it inside the round loaf soap mold and press it inside the mold.  You want to make sure that the soap fits tightly in the mold.  Finally, trim the edges of the soap so that it is the same length and width of the soap mold.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe:  Prepare the Cream Colored SoapRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe:  Prepare the Cream Colored Soap

Now, we will prepare the cream colored portion of our soap in our Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe.  This portion will be the remaining portion of the soap.  The cream soap will be poured on top of the brown soap and create the inner part of the tree trunk.

First, weigh out and melt 1162 grams Soya Milk Melt and Pour Soap.  Melt the soap base in the microwave in 30-second intervals.  Melt it until it is in a liquid state.  Be careful not to over-heat the base.

Next, we will color the melted soap.  You will need to add 4 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant.  Then, stir to disperse to colorant.  Now, add the fragrance oil and vanilla white.  You will need to add 58 grams of Natures Garden’s Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil and 58 grams Vanilla White Stabilizer.  Finally, mix the base to fully incorporate the fragrance oil.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe:  Pouring the Cream Colored SoapRustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe:  Pouring the Cream Colored Soap

Once your soap has been colored to a cream color, and scented with Cracklin Birch Fragrance Oil, it is time to pour the melted soap into the round loaf mold.  Prior to pouring the cream colored soap, you will want to spray the brown layer with rubbing alcohol.  This will help the two layers adhere to each other.  Make sure you spray the previous layer thoroughly.  So, once you have sprayed the brown soap, pour the cream soap right on top.  Finally, once again, spray the soap with rubbing alcohol to release any air bubbles that may have formed.  Then, allow the soap to setup before moving on.

Rustic Tree Trunk Soap Recipe: Slicing the Soap

Once your soap has setup, you can remove it from your round loaf mold.  Then, go ahead and slice the soap loaf. We recommend using your soap making mitre box and mitre box cutter.  So, place your soap in the mitre box.  Then, use the mitre box cutter to slice your rustic tree trunk soap.  After you have sliced your tree trunk soap, it can be used right away.

Christmas Confetti Soap Recipe: Prepare Your Green Soap

We will begin by preparing the green soap. A small amount of the green soap will be used for the confetti portion of the soap. The remaining green soap will be used in the loaf portion of the soap.

First, you will need a dish that is safe for the microwave. In this dish, weigh out 415 grams of Natures Garden’s Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap.  Now, melt the clear mp soap base in your microwave. You will want to melt in 30-second bursts, stirring occasionally.  Continue to melt the soap until all the melt and pour soap is in a melted state.  While you are waiting for the soap to melt, lay out a piece of wax paper.

Finally, pour about 130 grams of the green colored soap onto your sheet of wax paper.  Alternatively, you can use an extra mold to pour your thin layer like I did.  Spray this soap with rubbing alcohol to eliminate any air bubbles.  Allow this to setup.

The remaining green soap will be used for the green portion of your loaf.  So, slowly pour the rest of the green soap into the mold. Then, spray the green soap with rubbing alcohol to release any air bubbles you see in your soap loaf. Next, just allow your soap to setup.

Once the green soap that was poured on the wax paper has setup, we will begin cutting our confetti.  So, place your soap on a cutting board.  Then, begin cutting the soap into small squares.  Put the cut up soap in a small bowl and set it aside for now.  We will come back to it in just a bit.

Christmas Confetti Soap Recipe: Prepare the Red Soap

We will once again use a portion of the soap for the confetti and the rest will be used in the red layer of the soap loaf. So, cut and melt 415 grams of Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap in the same manner you prepared the green soap. Once again, while the soap is melting, lay out a piece of wax paper.

Christmas Confetti Soap Recipe: Prepare the Red Soap

Now, remove the soap from the microwave and add the 9 drops of tomato red soap colorant, 17 grams Fruitcake fragrance oil, and 17 grams Vanilla White Color Stabilizer.  Stir your soap to completely incorporate the colorant and Fruitcake fragrance oil completely.  Then, pour about 130 grams of the melted red soap onto the wax paper.  Allow the soap that you poured on the wax paper to setup.  You can set the bowl of remaining red soap base aside, we will come back to it.

Next, once the red confetti soap has setup, use a knife to cut the soap into very small confetti like squares.  Once you have cut them, you can place the red soap in the bowl with the green soap.  Then, go ahead and mix them together.  This will make adding it to your soap easier later.

Once your green layer of soap has setup completely, you can prepare the white layer.  So, in a mixing bowl, melt 570 grams of Yogurt Melt and Pour Soap Base.  Then, add your Fruitcake fragrance oil and Vanilla White,  Finally, use a spoon to mix the soap.

Now, spray your previous green soap layer with rubbing alcohol.  Next, pour the melted white soap directly on top of the green layer.  Then, while the white soap base is still in its melted state, drop half of the red and green confetti into the white soap layer.  Finally, spray the white layer with rubbing alcohol to release any air bubbles that have formed in the soap.  Allow the white layer to setup before moving on.

Now we will melt the red soap layer.  Once the white layer has setup, you will need to remelt the red soap base you set aside earlier.  Remember, you want to melt the soap in 30 second bursts only until it is in a liquid state.  Be careful not to overheat the soap.

Christmas Confetti Soap Recipe: Pour Your Red Soap Layer

Next, we will pour the top red layer. So, once again, spray the previous white soap layer with rubbing alcohol.  Then, pour the red soap directly on top of it.  Finally, spray the red soap with rubbing alcohol to release any air bubbles.  Allow the red soap layer to setup.

Now, we will be preparing the whipped topping for our soap.  You will need to move rather quickly through the next few steps.  First, in a mixing bowl, weigh out the 150 grams of the Natures Garden whipped topping, 18 grams if the vanilla white, 18 grams of the Fruitcake fragrance oil, and 17 grams vegetable glycerin.  Use a hand mixer to bring the whipped soap base to a whipped frosting consistency.

Next, simply place the 150 grams of your Natures Garden Yogurt Melt and Pour Soap in a mixing bowl.  Then use your microwave to melt the soap base.  Melt it to a liquid state, use caution not to overheat the soap.

Once the soap is melted, pour it into the mixing bowl with the whipped soap and the vegetable glycerin.  Begin beating the mixture with a hand held mixer.  When the soap looks like whipped frosting, stop beating.

Next, we will begin topping our soap loaf.  So, using your spoon quickly scoop the soap frosting on top of the soap.  You want it to look like whipped cream on top of the soap.

When all of the soap has been covered with, you can begin adding the confetti.  You will use the remaining red and green confetti to top your whipped cream topping.

Finally, allow your soap to setup completely.  Once your soap has setup, you can use your mitre box and cutter to slice your soap.  Then, your Christmas Confetti Soap is ready to use.  We hope you love it and have had as much fun creating it as we did!

25 Ways to Use Peppermint25 Ways to Use Peppermint

We all have our passions. Well for me, at this time of year, it’s peppermint.  There is just something about the smell and taste of peppermint that just makes me feel rejuvenated and excited for the holiday season.  Some love pumpkin…pumpkin carving, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin soaps, the list could go on and on.  And for those who have a love for pumpkin, you can check out ways to use pumpkin here. Others, though, have a passion for peppermint. So, today, we will talk about peppermint and show you 25 ways to use peppermint.

You know that warm feeling you get when it’s snowing and freezing outside and you curl up on the couch with a big fluffy blanket? That is the same feeling I get when I drink a hot peppermint mocha coffee.  I even make my nieces peppermint hot cocoa each year, topped with whipped cream and peppermint pieces.  They have loved it since they were toddlers. They are now teenagers, beginning to drive, growing up and finding their way through life, but I love that they still come over for peppermint mochas and have girl time with their aunt. To me, that is the best feeling in the world.

Peppermint contains the active ingredient, menthol, which is thought to loosen phlegm and soothe coughs. In fact, peppermint tea is believed to relieve the pressure caused by migraine headaches. The leaves of peppermint are frequently added to eye pillow formulas to assist in relieving headaches. Since peppermint produces a cooling and numbing effect on the skin, it is sometimes used in body cream formulations to help with skin irritations. You can read all about peppermint, it uses in many industries and its benefits here.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 2: Melt in MicrowaveBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 2: Melting Your Clear Soap

Once you have weighed out your SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap, you are going to melt it in your microwave. You are going to want to melt the clear mp soap base in 30-second intervals until it is completely fluid. Also, you will want to make sure you stir the SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap while you are melting it. You need to continue to heat the base until it is in a liquid state, be careful not to overheat the soap base.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 3: Add Fragrance Oil and Soap ColorantBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 3: Coloring and Scenting the Blackberry Embeds

Next, remove the SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap from the microwave and add your soap colorants and fragrance oil. You will need to add 2 grams of Natures Garden Blackberry Jam Fragrance Oil along with 1 drop of black oxide FUN Soap Colorant. Also, add 4 drops of the Ultramarine Violet FUN Soap Colorant. Lastly, you are going to want to incorporate the ingredients fully into your melted SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap. Mix slowly until everything you added is blended thoroughly and evenly.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 4: Pouring the Blackberry Embeds

Finally, pour the SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap into 10 cavities of the raspberries and blackberries mold. We recommend getting this mold from www.flexiblemolds.com. Once you pour the soap, be sure to spray the soap with rubbing alcohol to release any air bubbles in your melted soap base that may have been created while mixing and pouring your melt and pour soap into the mold.  Allow the soap to completely setup before removing the blackberries from the mold.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 5: Preparing BaseBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 5: Preparing the Cupcake Bases

Now, you are going to start preparing your cupcake bases. Again, you are going to need the SLS Free Clear Soap Base. At this time you will also need the cupcake mold market mold. Next, in a small microwave-safe bowl, weigh out and melt 200 grams of your SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap Base. Remember to heat up your SLS Fee Melt and Pour Soap in the microwave in 30 second intervals so you do not overheat the clear soap. In addition, you will want to stir your soap base in between each 30 second burst to help it melt evenly.

BlackBerry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 6: Add Fragrance Oil and Soap Colorant Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 6: Adding Fragrance Oil and Soap Colorant

Once you melted your 200 grams of SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap base, you are going to add 6 grams of your Blackberry Jam Fragrance Oil and make sure it is mixed completely into your melted soap base. Next, add 15 drops of Natures Garden Ultramarine Violet FUN Soap Colorant to your melted soap base and 2 drops of your Black Oxide FUN Soap Colorant to your melted soap base. Lastly, mix both FUN Soap Colorants completely to incorporate the colors into your melted detergent-free soap base.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 7: Pour in MoldBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 7: Pouring Your Cupcake Bases

Now, you are ready to pour your SLS Free Melt and Pour Soap into your the cupcake base cavities of the cupcake mold. You will notice that this mold has four cavities, two cupcake bases and two cupcake tops. You will only need to pour the cupcake bases of the mold, not the cupcake top cavities. So, slowly pour the purple soap to fill the two cavities. Next, you are going to want to spray the purple soap with rubbing alcohol to release any air bubbles that may have formed. Air bubbles can get trapped in the soap as it is setting up, so make sure you spray the homemade soap as soon as you pour it. Finally, you will want to let the soap setup completely before moving on to the next step.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 9: Adding liquids to Goat Milk Melt and PourBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 8: Preparing the Whipped Soap Base for the Cupcakes

Next, you are going to prepare the whipped topping portion for your Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe. First, you are going to want to prepare the whipped soap base. For this you will need a medium size mixing bowl ready. Then, weigh out 215 grams of whipped soap base. Now, to the bowl containing the whipped soap base, add 21 grams of vegetable glycerin. Also, you are going to want to add 14 grams of Blackberry Jam Fragrance. Finally, use your hand mixer to whip the soap to a fluffy frosting like consistency. Then, set the bowl aside, you will come back to it shortly.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 9: Preparing the Goat Milk Melt and Pour

Now, in a separate bowl, we will be weighing out your Goat’s Milk MP Soap.  This soap is going to be mixed with the whipped soap base.  By adding mp soap to the whipped soap base it hardens the whipped soap a bit.  While it will still look like frosting it won’t be super soft. This means it can be easily packaged while still maintaining its cupcake appearance.  So, in a deep bowl, weigh out 215 grams of goat milk melt and pour soap. Once again, you are going to want to melt the goat milk melt and pour soap in the microwave in 30 second intervals. Once the soap base is completely melted, we can move on and put everything together.  You will need to move quickly through the next few steps as the base can setup rather fast.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 10: Add Melted and Whipped Soap BaseBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 10: Putting Everything Together

Next, we will complete the whipped soap frosting. This means it is time to put everything together. You will need to move quickly as the soap frosting does tend to setup quickly. You are going to add your melted goat milk melt and pour soap to your whipped soap base. Again, while using your hand mixer, combine the melt and pour and whipped soap base ingredients until you have a fluffy whipped frosting consistency. Be careful not to over mix.  Over mixing can cause your frosting to setup before you are able to frost the soap cupcakes.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 11: Scoop and PlaceBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 11: Topping Your Cupcakes

Now, quickly scoop some of the soap frosting onto each cupcake base you created earlier. Next, you will need the blackberry embeds you prepared earlier. You are finally ready to use those cute blackberry embeds you made! Place the blackberries on the top of each homemade soap cupcake. Push it slightly into the soap frosting so it stays in place. You should have about 10 blackberries to top both cupcakes. This blackberry soap recipe makes two cupcakes. So, this allows you to add up to 5 blackberries per soap cupcake.

Blackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 12: Finishing TouchesBlackberry Cupcake Soap Recipe Step 12: Finishing Touches

Finally, you are going to prepare the light purple drizzle that you are going to put on top of your homemade blackberry cupcake soap! First, you will want to lay down a piece of wax paper. The wax paper will help keep your area clean and protected while drizzling. Then, remove your cupcakes from the molds and place them on the wax paper. Next, go ahead and melt about 50 grams of goat’s milk melt and pour soap in the microwave. Once that is melted, you can add 1 gram of Natures Garden Blackberry Jam Fragrance Oil. Also, you are going to add 10 drops of FUN soap colorant- Ultramarine Violet. Be sure to mix the two well so you have a consistent color. Once you have created the purple drizzle, use a spoon to drizzle the melted light purple soap over the top of each cupcake. Once you have allowed the drizzle to setup, your soap cupcakes are ready to use!

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits

Melt and Pour Soap BenefitsMelt and Pour Soap Benefits

We at Natures Garden would like to share some of the melt and pour soap benefits with customers that may not know too much about soaping. There are quite a few different methods one can use to create soaps, so it can be a bit overwhelming for new soapers. Every method has some benefits that you may enjoy, but you must choose the method that will be best for you and the situation you are in.

While many find melt and pour soap to be one of the easier ways to make soap at home, even the most experienced soapmaker may come back to this method. Honestly, it all depends on what the soaps are needed for and the time you have available. So, at one point or another, anyone can benefit from knowing a bit about this method. If you have never used melt and pour soap or are thinking about trying this method again, then we’d like to share with you all of the great things about melt and pour soap. So, here is why melt and pour soap is a great soap making method!

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Great for Beginning Soap MakersMelt and Pour Soap Benefits Great for Beginning Soap Makers

Due to a few different aspects of this soap making method, beginning soap makers may want to start with this method. This is an easy way to introduce soap making into your crafting. This method won’t have you working with lye right out of the gate. This can help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed with everything all at once. Instead, a new soap maker can get used to the time sensitive nature of cooling soap, adding fragrance oils, and coloring soap. Plus, this method skips right to the fun of creating to let you experience all the fun. Melt and pour soap allows you to have fun trying out soap making before jumping into more complex methods. You can create very simple soaps that are still cute with this method without taking too much time or skill to complete.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Creativity and Additional Ingredients

There is so much that you can do with melt and pour soap! As long as you have some molds, additives, and a creative mind you can make anything you want. Further, you can look to our Melt & Pour Soap Recipes page for soap making inspiration and ideas. In addition, you can print out the step by step soap making tutorials for each project on that page. While melting soap and pouring it into molds may sound like it is simple and boring, we can show you that there is so much that you can create with this method of soap making.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Manipulating the Shape of the SoapMelt and Pour Soap Benefits Manipulating the Shape of the Soap

Since melt and pour soap will take on the shape of whatever it sets up in, it is pretty easy to shape the soap into whatever you’d like. For example, our Lollipop Soap Recipe used a flat shaped soap layer and cut it into strips that we curled to create a lollipop appearance. Also, the Fresh Fallen Leaves Soap Recipe used straws to have soap shaped like a tree trunk. This along with the melt and pour soap leaves created a very pretty soap! Plus, you can make more simple soaps that are super cute like the Neapolitan Cupcake Soap Recipe, which uses a layered cupcake base and whipped frosting on top.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Adding Herbs and MicaMelt and Pour Soap Benefits Adding Herbs and Mica

Also, you can incorporate micas and even herbs into your soap! You can take your chosen additives and include it right into your melted soap. We have done this with our Blarney Stone Soap Recipe. Gold mica was added to the clear melt and pour soap base and can be seen incorporated right into the soap bar. So, you can use this technique to create a prettier appearance for your soaps. Additionally, you can add herbs or powders to provide your soap with certain properties. For example, we created the Activated Charcoal Soap Recipe with activated charcoal powder to provide a more cleansing bar of soap that provides a deep pore clean. Regardless of why you want to add herbs, mica, or other powders, the best part is that you have the option to if you need it!

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Making Embed SoapMelt and Pour Soap Benefits Making Embed Soap

Additionally, you can add soap embeds to your melt and pour soap bars. This technique gives you the freedom to create even more creative kinds of soap. This would have you create a smaller soap prior to creating your soap bar so that you can add shapes into the soap bar itself.

While it will all be melt and pour soap, you will be able to use the embedded soap to create designs or certain effects. For example, creating the swirl for the Cinnabun Melt and Pour Soap Recipe. We wanted to add a swirl to make the soap bar look more like a cinnamon roll and less plain after we cut our soap loaf. Plus, it just looks so cute! Also, we used this embed soap idea to make the seeds for our Watermelon Soap Recipe. Otherwise, our soap wouldn’t have looked like a slice of watermelon! Sometimes the embed soap really pulls your soap idea together!

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Option to Make Clear Soap

Another creative option unique to melt and pour soap is creating a bar that you can see straight into. We all know that we can see embed soaps by cutting a loaf of soap into a few individual bars. However, diamond clear melt and pour soap offers another way to get creative with embed soaps. You can create a bar of soap with solid shapes and colors inside that you will be able to see without cutting.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Mango Loofah Melt and Pour Soap RecipeSimply add a layer of diamond clear soap, place your solid object or colored soap inside, and add your top layer. This leaves you with a solid bar of soap with a fun design inside. We have used this method to create the Mango Loofah Melt and Pour Soap Recipe, where you can see the loofah inside the soap bar. Another idea is to use this soap technique to create kids toys with fun little toys inside.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Some Choice with the Ingredients

While you aren’t in complete control of the ingredients that are in your soap base, there are some things that you can do. First of all, you can choose your type of soap base. There are a lot of different melt and pour soap bases to choose from that all have different ingredients. For example, you can choose the SLS FREE Glycerin Melt and Pour Soap if you are looking for soap base without SLS. We have a lot of different types that may suit your individual soaping needs on Natures Garden’s Melt and Pour Soap page. Some of my favorites are our Shea Butter MP Soap Base and the Honey MP Base. Whether you are looking for a with a little extra of something, soap without a certain ingredient, or a base with a certain appearance, you can find all our soap bases on our site.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Controlling Certain IngredientsMelt and Pour Soap Benefits Controlling the Ingredients

Not only can you choose different types of soap base to control the ingredients, but you are in control of scenting and coloring. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, then you can create melt and pour soaps that agree with your skin. First, those with sensitivities to fragrances and essential oils can leave the bar unscented. Also, those that would rather not use liquid soap dye can use natural herbs to color the soap or leave the soap it’s natural color. Thus, you do have some control over the content of your soap bars.

Furthermore, you can add a little bit more of your favorite oils of butters to the soap base you choose. If you find a soap base that has all the ingredients you like, but you wish that it included another ingredient, you have the freedom to add something else. However, you need to be careful not to add too much as this can change the bar and could lose its lather. So, we would not recommend introducing more than a tablespoon of your added oils or butters per pound of mp soap. But, you can play with your recipe to find the right proportion for your soap bars.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Convenience of this Method

Another great reason to work with melt and pour soap is that it is super easy to create soaps! This soap making method is very simple in every way from prepping to create the soap to the clean up process. So, let’s go over all the ways that melt and pour soap making saves you time and effort.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Can Use the Soap Immediately

Also, you can use your soaps immediately after you make them. Obviously, the melt and pour soap base has been previously created and gone through saponification before you buy the melt and pour soap base. While you don’t have to worry about the lye, the soap already has it in the soap. But, the lye that was used to make the soap has already had time to fully react before the soap bases were sold. This means that the curing process has already completely finished before you even open the soap package. So, no need to wait after you form your masterpieces! As soon as your soaps are colored, scented, and out of their molds it can go straight into the bath tub! This is wonderful because you don’t have to worry about waiting long enough to prevent irritation and you can use the soap right away with no waiting.

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Quick, Easy, and Fun

Furthermore, this soap making method is perfect for those that are in a hurry to have their soaps done. If you need to get your soaps ready quick for a gathering, a gift, or just excited to use it yourself, then this is a good soaping choice. Everything about this soaping method is quicker. In the beginning, there are fewer preparations and after you finish there is no curing time before using the soap. So, you will have your finished soaps ready as soon as everything has set up and popped out of the molds.

Also, melt and pour soap making is perfect for those that are in the mood to skip right to the creative part of soap making. Since melt and pour soap already has the first few steps of the soaping process complete, you don’t need to worry about these. So, you will have more time and energy to focus on creating super cute soap! You are left with the coloring, scenting, and shaping of your soaps. Simply melt the soap, fill your molds, and get creative.  This soap method is an easy way to get right to the fun part of soap making!

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits No Need to Deal with LyeMelt and Pour Soap Benefits No Need to Deal with Lye

While lye is safe with the necessary safety precautions, sometimes it is just easier to let somebody else do all the leg work. In this case, our melt and pour soap base lets you buy your slabs of soap after they have cured. Thus, there is a lot less to prepare when working with melt and pour soap. For example, you won’t need to take as many safety precautions or wear as much protective clothing during the creation of your soap. Also, you won’t have to deal with making the lye water solution or combining the oils at the right temperature. So, no need to have vinegar handy because lye burns won’t ever happen with this soaping method. Thus, melt and pour soap making is just that much easier to work with!

Melt and Pour Soap Benefits Clean Up Is Easy

Further, the clean up for this method is very easy. Since this the melt and pour soap base is already completed soap, all you really need to do is wash your utensils with water. No need to worry about unreacted lye and no intense scrubbing or vinegar required. Just like soap, your left over base will rinse right out of your bowl.

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Clean and Prepare

Before you begin this recipe you may want to clean and prepare both your workspace and the equipment you will be working with for this recipe. Since crafting can take most of your attention, it may be more likely for dirt to find its way into your finish products. So, just clean and wipe everything down before you start.

First, find a workspace that provided you with plenty of room and access to a microwave. So, sanitize the surface you will be working on to prevent anything from getting picked up as you lay down your utensils. Also, make sure to wipe out the microwave you are going to use to make sure nothing falls into your bowls as your heat the soap base. Next, you will want to clean all your equipment you will be using for the recipe. This will allow you to be sure that nothing will get into the melted soap as you mix the ingredients together. In addition, set out your Brownie Bites Silicone Mold and make sure it is wiped out well. Do all of this and your soaps are sure to come out perfectly clean and adorable!

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Weighing Soap for the First LayerLemon Squares Soap Recipe Weighing Soap for the First Layer

Initially, we are going to create the first layer of our melt and pour soap lemon squares. This will end up being the layer on the top of our soap when we are finished. So, weigh out 270 grams of the Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base into a clean, microwave safe bowl. Now, you are going to melt your weighed out soap in the microwave. Take the bowl and heat your mango butter soap in 30-second increments until all the soap has completely melted. Once all the soap is in a liquid state, you can move on to the next step.

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Preparing the First LayerLemon Squares Soap Recipe Preparing the First Layer

Next, we are going to add the lemon fragrant oil and create the color for our first soap layer. So, grab your bowl of melted Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base. Now, add 13 grams of Natures Garden’s Lemon Squares Fragrance Oil to your clear, melted soap base. Then, add two drops of the Yelp Yellow Soap Colorant and 1 drop of the Yellow Oxide Soap Colorant to the melted soap mixture. Make sure to mix everything thoroughly to incorporate all of the scent and colorants throughout the soap. After it has been evenly mixed, you can move on to the next step.

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Pouring the First LayerLemon Squares Soap Recipe Pouring the First Layer

Now, you are going to pour this completed soap mixture into the mold to complete your first layer. So, fill each of the 24 cavities about halfway with your soap mixture. Just make sure that you don’t fill the mold cavities too high! Pouring too much into one cavity will prevent you from having a good-sized second layer. Also, you would be more likely to run out of your diamond clear melt and pour soap mixture before you finish filling all the cavities that you need to fill! So, try to keep the mold cavities filled as close to halfway as you possibly can.

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Spraying the First LayerLemon Squares Soap Recipe Spraying the First Layer

Then, you are going to quickly finish off this first layer. After you have poured everything into the mold you are going to lightly spray the tops of your soaps before they start to set up. This is done to release any air bubbles that could be trapped. This air comes from the pouring process. So, grab your spray bottle of rubbing alcohol and give your soap a few good spritzes. Once this is done you will want to wait until this layer is entirely set up before moving on to another step. This will prevent unwanted mixing of layers and you are going to want two separate and straight layers

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Weighing Soap for the Second LayerLemon Squares Soap Recipe Weighing Soap for the Second Layer

Next, you will be getting the second soap layer ready. After the first layer has set up completely it is time to start preparing the second layer. Once we pop out the finished soaps, this will become the bottom layer in the finished soaps. So, weigh out 270 grams of the Mango Butter Melt and Pour Soap into a clean, microwave safe bowl. Now, use the microwave oven to heat this soap base in 30-second intervals and stir quickly between each interval. After all the soap is in liquid form, you are ready for the next step of this process.

Now, you are going to be adding the lemon squares fragrance oil and soap colorant to your melted soap base. So, take your bowl of melted mango soap base and add 13 grams of the Lemon Squares Fragrance Oil. Then, you are going to add 1 drops of the Neon Yellow FUN Soap Colorant, 1 drop of the Yellow Oxide Soap Colorant, and a tiny amount of the Brown Oxide Soap Colorant. You can add this tiny amount of Brown Oxide FUN Soap Colorant with a toothpick.  Simply dip a toothpick into your bottle of brown soap colorant. Then, dip the toothpick into the soap. This will swirl a very tiny amount into your melted soap base. After, mix everything together thoroughly until it is evenly dispersed in your soap mixture.

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Pouring the Second Layer

Next, you are going to take your soap mixture and pour it into each of the cavities of the brownie bites silicone mold. Since your first layer is entirely set up, it is safe to pour this second layer of soap. First, you are going to spray the first layer one more time with the rubbing alcohol. Doing this will help the two layers stick together better and also help prevent the layers from breaking apart later on. After, fill the remaining half of each of the 24 cavities in your mold. After you finish you should have all 24 of the cavities completely filled to the top.

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Spraying the Second LayerLemon Squares Soap Recipe Spraying the Second Layer

Again, you will be spraying the top of your freshly poured soap in the mold. So, grab your spray bottle of rubbing alcohol. Then, lightly spray the tops all your soaps before they start to set up. Since this removes all the trapped air bubbles, spraying the rubbing alcohol should leave you with smooth soap. After you spray, you will wait a while to allow this layer to completely set up. Later, you will be removing all of your lemon squares from their cavities in the silicone soap mold. Once everything is removed you can move on to the final step!

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Adding the Powdered SugarLemon Squares Soap Recipe Adding the Powdered Sugar

Finally, you are going to be adding the powdered sugar topping to your finished lemon square soaps! At this point, the second layer you poured should be completely set up and you will remove all your soap from the mold. This will leave you with 24 bright yellow squares that are super cute! Now, each of these square soaps will be topped with the powdered sugar to give a more realistic effect. First, make sure that each lemon square scented soap has the side that has the brighter yellow, which was created with the diamond clear soap, facing up. Otherwise, you could end up with upside down lemon squares! Nobody wants that, so make sure to pay close attention.

Then, take a spoon and scoop some of the powdered sugar. Now, sprinkle this sweet powdered sugar onto the tops of your little soaps. Then, shake off any excess powdered sugar. The sugar should stick to the tops without rubbing alcohol. It seems to stick just like it would on a real lemon square!

Lemon Squares Soap Recipe Using Your Lemon Square Soaps

After your soaps all have their powdered sugar topping put on, they are finished and you are officially done with your soaps. Finally, these little dessert soaps are ready to use! Unlike with cold process soap, there is no cure time. This is because the soap had already been through the saponification process and given time to cure before you purchased the soap. So, your creations are ready to use as soon as they set up! Obviously, you can use your lemon square soaps just like you would a typical soap bar. Since everything, including the powdered sugar, is body safe. So, you can use these soaps as a hand soap or a shower soap. Regardless, you’ll get clean and smell like delicious lemon squares!
