For Limes:

112 grams of Diamond Clear Melt and Pour Soap

6 grams of Agave Lime Fragrance Oil

5 drops Lime Green FUN Soap Colorant

4 drops Kelly Green FUN Soap Colorant

For Cupcakes:

136 grams of Coconut Oil

98 grams of Castor Oil

136 grams of Mango Butter

91 grams of Palm Oil

2 grams of Titanium Dioxide

35 grams of Agave Lime Fragrance Oil

6 drops Lime Green FUN Soap Colorant

5 drops Kelly Green FUN Soap Colorant

65 grams of Lye

172 grams of Distilled Water

Other Ingredients Needed:

Round Cupcake Silicone Soap Molds

Safety Glasses

Safety Mask

Safety Gloves

Stick Blender

Lime Mold from Flexible Molds

Mixing Bowls

Rubbing Alcohol

Ziploc Bags

Start out making your limes. Measure and weigh out 112 grams of Diamond Clear soap, and melt it down in the microwave.

Once it is fully melted, go ahead and add 5 drops of Lime Green FUN Soap Colorant, and 4 drops of Kelly Green. Mix it together thoroughly. Then add 6 grams of Agave Lime Fragrance Oil and mix it together thoroughly.

Once you have completely mixed your soap, begin to pour your soap into the Lime Mold from Flexible Molds.

When it is fully poured, make sure to spray your soap with rubbing alcohol to avoid any air bubbles.

Then you can get your lye water ready. Measure and weigh out 172 grams of distilled water. Then add 65 grams of lye to your water. Make sure to mix it together thoroughly. Set your lye water aside to cool down. While you’re waiting for the lye to cool, you can get your butter and oils ready. In a mixing bowl, measure out 136 grams of Mango Butter, 136 grams of Coconut Oil, 91 grams of Castor Oil, and 91 grams of Palm Oil. Then go ahead and melt them down completely.

009While you are waiting for these to cool, you can get your titanium dioxide ready for your white frosting. Mix 2 grams of titanium dioxide and 7 grams of Castor Oil together in a bowl until you have achieved a paste like consistency. Make sure to regularly check their temperature using your thermometer until they are both around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, within 10 degrees of each other. Then go ahead and pour your lye water into your bowl with your butters and oils. Mix it together thoroughly until you have brought it to a slight trace.

Once it is at trace, pour 230 grams of your mixture into a second mixing bowl. This will be used for your white frosting. Then in your original bowl, add 5 drops of Kelly Green and 6 of Lime Green. Mix it thoroughly. Once you have thoroughly mixed your color, add 23 grams of your fragrance oil to the bowl. Make sure to mix everything together thoroughly.

In the bowl for your white, add your titanium paste and mix it thoroughly.

Once it is mixed, go ahead and add 12 grams of fragrance, once again mixing thoroughly together.

Then take 3 of your Cupcake Molds, and with your green soap, fill each mold. What does not fill your molds will be used for the green frosting.

Next, take two Ziploc bags and cut just the tip off of one corner of each. In one bag, pour your white soap in, and pour the rest of your green into the other. Then take the bag with the white soap and begin to frost your soap.

Once you have finished the white frosting, do the same with the green frosting, styling them both however you want!

When you have finished frosting, take your lime soaps out of their mold and stick one into the top of each soap! Then make sure to allow your soap to sit for at least 24 hours before removing it from the molds.

Once you have removed the soaps from the molds, they will need at least 4-6 weeks before you can actually use them, giving them enough time to cure. But once those few weeks have passed, your soaps will be ready for you to enjoy! Make sure to check out all the rest of our free recipes and classes as well! Keep watching for more Enlightened by Layla!

How to Work Candy to Your Advantage

Natures Garden’s Bogeyman Fragrance Oil is a great candy scent to add to your line. How sweet your products can be has never smelled to good!

How to Work Candy to Your Advantage

Earlier this year in April, I took a blind leap into technology by upgrading my flip phone to an Android.  I know; I am little behind the times.  However, after weighing the pros and cons of a dreaded touch screen phone, I thought it was a move that I could benefit greatly from.  Overall, the fact that pushed me into the purchase was that I could have a mini, hand held computer; an endless source of knowledge and entertainment; taking it anywhere and everywhere, and you mean to tell me it works as a cell phone too.  How could this ever be a bad thing?

Luckily for me, I did not have to discover all of the possibilities and capabilities of my Android flying solo.  My youngest sister who is only 20 years old gave me a phenomenal crash course in phone technology.  An android is so yesterday for her, she lives in the realm of iPhone and iPad; often functioning from both at the same time.  This however, is a little too much for me!

For the first several weeks with my Android, our bonding was so very special, I was in love and memorized.  Every free second I had, I was discovering new and wonderful things.  For the first time I was finding the wonderful world of apps.  These amazing little square buttons on my screen that allowed me access to all my favorite websites.  All at my beckoning call with a simple touch of a finger.  It was not too much longer before one of these apps became my demise.

Usually, I am not one of the followers.  But, I had heard about this addicting game on the radio, and seen several commercials on television for the same game “Candy Crush Saga”.  I was intrigued.  So, I took the next logical step, and downloaded the free app.

Once I had my little kiddies tucked tight into their beds, I hung up my mom hat and decided that I would see what all of the fuss is about.  During the first several levels, I couldn’t grasp what was so addicting about this simple little game.  Match 3 candies… I could do this in my sleep.  But, this is where the game gets you.  It is a very simple logical game that gets progressively harder using innocent little candies as a front.  As the levels and challenges increase you find yourself saying, “I can do this, I can beat these candies,” but in actuality, the levels are endless and your free time is not.

Candy Crush Saga has absorbed the vast majority of my “me time”.  I think about it, dream of the little candies, and crave the passing of just one more level.  I know that I am not the only one who has become an addict and this does provide me some comfort in the situation.  In fact, the Wall Street Journal reported some 15.4 million users a day for “Candy Crush Saga”, and those numbers really got me thinking.

The result, turn the proverbial sour lemon candy into sweet delicious candy.  With 15.4 million users a day, candy is running through many consumers’ heads… so why not give the people what they want.

Here are some spectacularly sweet candy themed fragrance oils and items available at Natures Garden.  Use these fragrance oils and to sweeten the scent of your bath products, or maybe add some sweet embeds to your candles and soaps.  Just take the idea and run with it!

2012 Color Trends

Wild Animal Prints, Bold Flowers, Lime & Hot Pink

Every year the corporation Pantone Inc forecasts a color trend.  The headquarters which is located in New Jersey spends countless hours researching through various worldly mainstreams, seeking the next “it” color.  They are quite literally looking for the color that will be a worldwide attention grabber.   The two main things that Pantone looks for is what they think the public will want and need.

The 2012 Pantone Color of the year is Tangerine Tango.   It was selected due to its energizing and encouraging elements.  A huge factor in this year’s selection, as well as the colors selected in previous years is the economy and spending habits.  Knowing that consumers are responsible for reviving the economy, this makes Tangerine Tango a perfect color to call shoppers to action in spending.

Now, although this color is vibrant and screams energy, let’s take the financial gain out of the situation and present to you what we at Natures Garden think is going to be the
hot color trends of the 2012 year.  With so many negative things that are occurring in the world:  violent protests, economic uncertainty, famine, poverty; the list seems to be never ending.  Our focus this year was to find colors and trends that will not only stand out, but will keep the positive energy flowing.

Our 2012 Color choice is Lime.  If lime had to be described in a single word it would be amazing.  Lime is the perfect choice because being of the green color family it is a combination of blue and yellow.  Hues of blue colors are calming, refreshing, and peaceful.  Yellow hues are energizing, hopeful, and happy.  Put these two together and bam… beautiful and breathe taking greens.  What a combo!

The color lime green represents many things.  It is a color of balance through means of the body, mind, and emotion.  It represents both change and growth while still maintaining a youthful and playful tone.  On an interpersonal level, lime signifies an open mind to learning and a non judgmental perception.  The color lime initiates the clearing of negativity and reminds us of hope.  Lime is a natural peacemaker.  A color that evokes a healthy anticipation of possible potential while still allowing for
openness to new ideas without any of the angst associated to demands of outside forces.  Lime is a self respect color.  On a final note, the color lime is a mental signifier of luck.

Another strong color that we believe is going to rock this year is hot pink.  You probably saw that one coming.  The color hot pink is fun and exciting.  It contains qualities that
are both passionate and sensual.  Hot pink is confident.  The color radiates feelings of encouragement and unconditional love.  Hot pink also decreases stress levels and
anger.  Hot pink can be a color that provides for very insightful energies.

This year as well we would like to forecast a theme that will surely remain a constant in the spotlight.  Wild, crazy, savvy… animal prints are HOT.  Let your wild side out, unchain the savage beasts.  This is a trend that cannot be trapped.  Whether it is zebra, leopard, tiger, or giraffe; making a statement with a little fierceness is never going out of style.  Bring on the safari!  If you are not sure which print best suits you, feel free to take this animal print quiz:  http://www.blogthings.com/whatanimalprintareyouquiz

Not only do we feel that lime and hot pink will be the hot colors for 2012, we also feel that these colors will influence the following markets:  fragrance, candle, soap, and cosmetics.  For many years now, people have used orange scented cleaning products to clean their homes.      Tired of the “same-ole same-ole” scent, we believe consumers will be looking for alternative citrus notes to make their homes smell clean.  Imagine a Pink Grapefruit fragrance infused with fresh Kaffir lime.  This is a perfectly, refreshing, clean smell, and it screams hot pink and lime!  Natures Garden just added this wonderful fragrance to our line, and we call it HOT PINK LIME; any coincidence?   Additionally, we
see sugary lime fragrances becoming hot.  Fragrances like Frozen Margarita, Mojito, Coconut Lime, Agave Lime, and Keylime Pie will be hot in 2012.

Fragrances that focus on hot pink will be equally hot; Hot Pink Pomegranate, Pink Watermelon, Pink Sugar, Fluffy Pink Candy to name a few.

Our conclusion:  2012 is going to be a wild and fun time filled with lots of HOT PINK and Lime.  Embrace it, and have fun with it!
