Christmas SoapChristmas Soap

Hello everyone! Are you looking for a new wonderful project to try for this Christmas season? Maybe a new recipe to try as a unique and beautiful gift to give to all of your loved ones for the holiday? Well do we have the perfect one for you! I would like to introduce our new free recipe for our Frankincense and Myrrh Soap! This Christmas soap is made with the thoughts of the three wise men in mind! If you remember the story of the baby Jesus, the three wise men all traveled to see him toting three special gifts. Gold, frankincense, and myrrh. This soap is a gorgeous way to pay homage to that special holiday story!

Ingredients:

85 grams Mango Butter

510 grams Palm Oil

510 grams Olive Oil Pomace

510 grams Coconut Oil 76

85 grams Castor Oil

243 grams Lye

6 grams Myrrh Gum Powder

84 grams Frankincense and Myrrh Fragrance Oil

24K Gold Mica Pigment

Diamond Dust Mica Pigment

2 drops Yellow Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

2 drops Brown Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

2 drops Orange Oxide FUN Soap Colorant

4 Loaf Silicone Soap Mold

645 grams Distilled Water

Safety Glasses

Safety Gloves

Safety Mask

Crockpot

Mixing Spoons

Mixing Bowls

Scale

Stick Blender

Directions:

There are actually 2 parts to this soap, you will start out by preparing the rock portion first. In a bowl, weigh out 34 grams Castor Oil, 204 grams Coconut Oil 76, 204 grams Palm Oil, 34 grams Mango Butter, and 204 grams Olive Oil Pomace. Turn the crockpot on low, and heat all of the oils until they are completely liquid.

frankincense and myrrh soap

While you are waiting for them to melt, weigh out 97 grams of lye and 258 grams of distilled water. Slowly and carefully pour the lye into the water and then stir. Never add water to lye! Then once the oils are melted, add the lye to them in the crockpot.  Use the stick blender to bring the mixture to a pudding consistency. Place the lid on the crockpot and allow to cook.  Make sure to keep stirring the mixture every now and then. Once it has reached the consistency of mashed potatoes, the soap is finished.

frankincense and myrrh soap

frankincense and myrrh soap

When the soap is finished cooking, divide it equally into 4 mixing bowls. Add 2 drops of Orange Oxide Colorant into one bowl, 2 drops of Yellow into one, 2 drops of brown into the third, and do not color the fourth bowl. Then, pour each bowl into a different part of the soap mold and let the soap sit to set up.

frankincense and myrrh soap

After it has set, break the soaps up into pieces and set aside to use later for the rocks.

frankincense and myrrh soap

Now you can start the brown portion of your soap. In the crockpot, melt down 51 grams Mango Butter, 306 grams Olive Oil, 306 grams Coconut Oil 76, 51 grams Castor Oil, and 306 grams Palm Oil.

frankincense and myrrh soap

Prepare your lye water again, (same process as Step 2) using 387 grams distilled water and 146 grams lye. Stir. When the oils are melted, add the lye to the crockpot and stir with the stick blender. This should become about a pudding consistency.

frankincense and myrrh soap

Let it sit for about 15 minutes and then add your 6 grams of Myrrh Gum Powder and mix it again. Allow your soap to finish until it is again a mashed potato consistency, add 84 grams Frankincense and Myrrh Fragrance Oil, and mix together.

frankincense and myrrh soap

Now using the 4 loaf mold, put a layer of soap into the bottom of 3 of the different parts of the loaf. Then using the rocks from earlier, place the rocks throughout that layer, pushing them down slightly to prevent air pockets. Put another layer on top and keep repeating the process until you fill the mold.

Once you have filled the mold, sprinkle 24K Gold Mica Pigment and Diamond Dust Mica Pigment on top until you are satisfied with the amount, and let it sit for a while to set up. Enjoy your awesome new Frankincense and Myrrh Soap!

Hey everybody! Are you looking for a new craft for the kiddos? Or maybe a new project that you can do with them for a creative way to spend time together? Or maybe even a fun thing that they can make with their friends? Well, how about our free recipe for our Scented Putty? What kid doesn’t love to play with putty? I know I did, we had it everywhere, all over the house! And what kid wouldn’t love to make their own? They can pick the colors, sizes, whatever they want! This recipe is sure to be a fantastic hit among them and their friends so you should definitely stick this on your future projects to try list!

Ingredients and Equipment Needed to Make Scented Putty

1 tablespoon of Corn Starch

½ teaspoon of Borax

2 tablespoons Distilled Water

1 tablespoons White School Glue

10 drops in FUN Soap Colorant (whatever color you want!)

10 drops Tropical Paradise Flavoring (or any other oil-based flavoring)

Disposable Pipette

Mixing Spoons

4 oz. PET Jar

White Dome Lid 58/400

2 plastic cups (or mixing bowls)

Measuring Spoons

1. In a plastic cup, mix 2 tablespoons of distilled water and 1/2 teaspoon of Borax together. Make sure to mix it well.

putty 1

2. In a separate cup add ½ teaspoon of this mixture along with 10 drops of Tropical Blast Flavoring and 10 drops of FUN Soap Colorant. (You can also use any of our body safe fragrances instead of the flavoring. However if you do choose to use fragrance, do not use the plastic cups. Make sure to use a mixing bowl because the fragrance will eat through the plastic cup.) Set aside the cup with the Borax mixture. You will not need it again unless you decide to make more than one!

putty 2

Add 1 tablespoon of school glue and 1 tablespoon of Corn Starch to your mixture. Mix it all together until it becomes too difficult to stir.

putty 3

Remove the mixture from the cup and place it on a piece of wax paper.

putty 4
Roll the putty all around in the palm of your hands.  It will slowly begin to take form.

putty 5

putty 6

When you are finished with your first ball, feel free to make as many more as you want using the rest of the Borax mixture. You will just need to repeat everything from step two including adding the flavoring, corn starch, and colorant. We made 7 putty balls with this awesome recipe, but we still had a little bit left over! So with using all of the Borax mixture, this should make at least about 13 putty balls!  To store the scented putty simply place it in a 4 oz. PET jar and tighten the lid.   Note:  Body Safe fragrance oils can be used for this scented putty recipe instead of flavorings, but if you use fragrance oils, you will need to be sure to mix your putty in a pet plastic container.  Fragrance oils can melt certain plastics.

Are you just totally intrigued? I’m sure the kiddos are, they will be so excited to make these Scented Putty balls that they will want to start as soon as possible! Are you looking for an awesome craft for the kids to do at a party? Well this is it! This wonderful putty is guaranteed to be a definite favorite, and they will want to make them over and over again. Come on, get started on these as soon as possible! Keep watching for more Enlightened by Layla! Are you looking for even more crafting fun? Floating Noah’s Ark Soap Recipe

This entry was posted in bath and body, creative, Floating soap, Fragrance Oils, melt and pour soap, Natures Garden, Noah's Ark Soap, soap molds and tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , on by .

We are having a staff challenge here at Natures Garden.  For this challenge, we have asked each staff member to choose one of their favorite Natures Garden’s fragrance oils and create a project pertaining to that fragrance.  Creativity is highly encouraged, using the knowledge they have learned while working at Natures Garden.  This week’s staff challenge was done by Marsha!  Marsha has only worked at Natures Garden for a few months, and her project this week was heaven sent.

If there is one thing that Marsha is extremely proud of, it is her family.  Marsha says she “has the greatest kids ever!”  But, besides being a mom, she especially loves being a Grammy.  Currently, Marsha is a Grammy to one special little guy, but is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the two little ones on the way.  Both babies are due before the end of this year.  Needless to say, she is bursting with excitement at their quickly approaching arrival dates.

One of the most interesting things about Marsha is the fact that she met her husband in prison.  She opens her interview with that line, and you look at her, eyes widened at that statement, and think what did she go to prison for?  But, don’t worry, she spent 30 years working for the prisons in administration.  She and her husband both are love birds, not jail birds.  noahs-ark-soap1

marsha1When it comes to free time, Marsha had more than she could handle after retiring from the prison scene.  Although she spends as much time with her family and grandchild as possible, she was seeking a fun company to work for.  That is how she came to be working for Natures Garden.  And, we at Natures Garden love having her as apart of our crew.

For her words of wisdom, Marsha says she has learned a lot over the years.  The one thing she would like to share is, “Let problems roll off your back.”  She advices that keeping things in, weighs your down, and you miss out of so much in life.”

When it came time for Marsha’s Spotlight Creation, Marsha wanted to make something for her grandson to use in the bath.  She also knew she wanted something to do with  Noah’s Ark.  She loved the concept of a Floating Noah’s Ark Soap and used her creativity to make it happen.  She can’t wait until he sees it.
