What is Resveratrol and What Does It Do?What is Resveratrol and What Does It Do?

What is resveratrol and what does It do? Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol that is created by a few different plants. You may know resveratrol best from red wine, but it can be found in other plants, too. For example, the Japanese knotweed contains this herb, too. Whether you consume it from natural sources or get a resveratrol supplement, there are tons of benefits for your body. Plus, there are even benefits that this cosmetic herb can provide for your skin! At Natures Garden we sell the resveratrol extract powder herb for creating skin-loving bath and body products. However, there are many known benefits that this herb can provide for your whole body! Let’s talk about some of the benefits that resveratrol has for you!

What is Resveratrol and What Does It Do?: Growing Conditions

There are a few different natural sources that we know of that contain resveratrol. For this cosmetic herb, it can be harvested from two different sources. First, we have the Japanese knotweed that is a hardy plant that is able to survive against a bombardment of pests, fungus and disease in its native environment. Second, we can get resveratrol from the skin of red grapes. Both these plants can be used to extract the same herb. No matter the source, there are many beneficial properties found in resveratrol. If you are interested, you can read below to learn more about both plants.

Grapes require an area that is either full sun or gets direct sunlight in the morning. Also, most grapes require a warm climate, which the American grapes being the best for the cold. Their soil should be well draining, deep, loose, and moist due to a light layer of mulch. If you are growing new plants, then you will need to care and protect your plant for about three years before you get a harvest.

Once you get a bunch of grapes, you will know by the color. At first, they will be a bright green and they will turn to a deep, juicy red once they are ready. Just know that your grapes won’t continue to ripen after being picked. If you have grapes that won’t ripen, then you can prune some of the foliage to let more sun in for grapes that aren’t ripening. You can tell when your red grapes are ripe because the color will be a dark red without any visible green. Also, you can taste a few from different bunches to determine whether they are ready.

What is Resveratrol and What Does It Do?: The Japanese KnotweedWhat is Resveratrol and What Does It Do?: The Japanese Knotweed

The Japanese knotweed, or Polygonum cuspidatum, is a plant that is native to Japan. While this hardy plant is considered a weed in its country of origin, it is not a danger to its native environment. In fact, the resveratrol harvested from it has quite a few beneficial properties. However, when this hardy plant is moved to a new environment it can become an invasive species. Since the plants are native to Japan, they are integrated into the local ecosystem and have a good amount of competition.

However, when this species moves into a new area without the same competition it has a leg up on all the other organisms. This can lead to the native plants in this new environment to go extinct, which can be detrimental to an environment as organisms rely on one another. This animal may be a food source for another or it may have been a predator that would keep the prey population levels steady. So, in areas like the US and many other places, we would consider this plant an invasive species. This means that there is likely a ban on planting this herb if you live in an area other than Japan, China, or Korea.

What is a Carrier Oil?What is a Carrier Oil?

What is a Carrier Oil? These are all the natural cosmetic oils that you can use in your homemade recipes. They are perfect for creating homemade soap, crafting a skin-loving lotion recipe, and making many of the other kinds of cosmetic recipes. So, knowing about these oils is important for creating the types of bath and body products that you need!

What is a Carrier Oil?: Making Soap Supplies

If you are looking for a good recipe for making soap, then it is going to have some carrier oils in it. Anyone making soap from scratch knows that the carrier oils you choose can influence the quality of your bars. So, these ingredients are essential for cold process soap recipes. You can see specifics on how each oil affects the soap on our Soaping Oil Properties. Even melt and pour soap recipes can benefit by adding some carrier oils to the soap base, which is often done to make the bar more conditioning to the skin.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Lotion Making

Also, our bulk carrier oils can be used to create an amazing homemade lotion recipe. These are the oils that we include to nourish and moisturize your skin. In fact, the oils are what do the majority of the skin care in lotions. While you can use butters along with your oils, they can lead to a thicker cream or even a body butter. So, lighter lotions need key carrier oils to perform effectively!

What is a Carrier Oil?: Using Essential Oils

Although essential oils are natural, they aren’t safe to put directly on your skin. Plus, adding a carrier oil will help hold on to the aroma longer than on its own. So, it is actually beneficial for your scent to mix an essential oil with a carrier oil before applying. One of the best carrier oils for essential oils would have to be Sweet Almond Oil or Argan Oil.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Kinds of Carrier OilsWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Kinds of Carrier Oils

There are many different kinds of carrier oils that you can mix together for your recipes. Depending on your skin type or level of dryness, you may want to have lighter or heavier oils. Also, some oils are better for face lotions or for foot care. So, the blend of carrier oils that you want varies based on your product and its purpose.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Apricot Kernel OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Apricot Kernel Oil

First, we have Apricot Kernel Oil, an oil that is light and excellent for skin care. While this oil is light enough to not block pores, it is conditioning enough to be a luxurious oil for cp soap. It’s great for making lotions that don’t leave a greasy feeling and skin into the skin. Also, its perfect in soap because the oil will sink into the skin quickly to fully moisturize the skin. We’ve used this wonderful oil in many bath and body recipes, including the Chamomile Light Lotion Recipe and the Strawberries and Champagne CP Soap Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Argan OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Argan Oil

Next, we have an oil that is amazing for skin care. Argan Oil is easily absorbed into the skin and won’t leave a greasy feeling on your skin. Plus, this cosmetic oil allows your skin to breathe and doesn’t block pores. In fact, this ingredient is used in many acne-fighting recipes. We included this oil in a few cosmetic recipes, like the Argan Soap Recipe and the Sour Watermelon Sugar Scrub Cubes Recipe. In our cp soap recipe, this oil increased the lather and nourished the skin beautifully.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Avocado OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Avocado Oil

Also, adding Avocado Oil to your homemade recipes is a perfect way to increase the moisturizing ability of your product. This cosmetic ingredient is a heavy oil that is perfect for providing dry, damaged skin with the nourishment it deserves. Plus, the high level of unsaponifiable fatty acids and high vitamin content make this skin-sensitive oil great for adding some extra conditioning power to your soap bars, which you can see in the Gentle Avocado Cold Process Soap Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Castor OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Castor Oil

Another great oil for your homemade cosmetic recipes is Castor Oil. Not only is this oil thick and perfect for nourishing dry, damaged skin, but this oil is a humectant. This means that oil will pull moisture to it, which will further moisturize your skin as it absorbs. Perfect for creating lotions for feet, like the Natural Salve Recipe , which are often one of the most damaged areas of skin. While this oil would provide some conditioning properties and a rich, creamy lather, it can make your soap sticky. So, avoid adding too much of this oil in your cp soap formulations. By limiting the amount of Castor Oil, we were able use the beneficial properties without as many drawbacks, like with our St Pattys Day Cold Process Soap Recipe as well as many other soaps.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Coconut OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is a great oil for skin that sinks in well and is perfect for scrub recipes like the Foaming Hibiscus Scrub Recipe. Also, this sensitive oil is perfect to add to lip balm supplies for making recipes like the Kahlua and Cream Lip Balm Recipe. For soapmaking, this oil provides a hard bar with a bubbly lather that is cleansing. Many find that adding more than 20% of this oil is drying for the skin, so some people may include more conditioning oils to the recipe or even super fat the formula to include more oils.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Grapeseed OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Grapeseed Oil

Another fantastic oil for bath and body recipes is Grapeseed Oil. This oil is perfect for cosmetic supplies because it is a lightweight moisturizer that is effective without being too greasy for the skin. So, this oil is perfect for creating lotions sensitive enough for the face, like our Natural Facial Night Cream Recipe. Also, this oil is perfect for soap-making, like our Raspberry CP Soap Recipe. This oil is moisturizing, and even anti-acne, for soap but it doesn’t leave a greasy, heavy oil feeling on the skin.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Jojoba OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Jojoba Oil

While Jojoba Oil is technically a liquid wax, it is still fantastic for skin care products. This cosmetic ingredient is perfect for everything from lotions like our Shea Lotion with Herbal Infusion Recipe to lip care products like our Green Apple Lip Balm Recipe. In your soap recipes, this cosmetic ingredient is just as conditioning as luxury oils. But, this oil has a longer shelf life.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Lanolin OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Lanolin Oil

Lanolin Oil is a great cosmetic oil that is wonderful for moisturizing and protecting damaged hair and dry skin. This oil contains very few saponifiables, so it maintains its conditioning properties and provides the bar with a silky feeling. So, we used this wonderful oil in our Strawberries and Champagne CP Soap Recipe. Also, you can use lanoin in a solid form, which still absorbs well and is great for protecting damaged skin. This thicker oil has all of the same beneficial properties and can even be used in soaps, like our Beard Soap Recipe.

Raspberry CP Soap Recipe What is a Carrier Oil?: Macadamia Nut Oil

Next, we have Macadamia Nut Oil, which is an oil that is light and perfectly absorbs into the skin. This non-greasy oil is perfect for creating lotions, like our Almond Body Cream Recipe. Also, this oil is perfect for adding conditioning properties to your soap and is even great for mature skin types. So, we included this oil in our Lavender Cold Process Soap Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Meadowfoam Seed OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Another great oil that skins into the skin beautifully is Meadowfoam Seed Oil. Not only does this oil work to repair damaged skin, but it has a long shelf life due to its high level of antioxidants. So, it worked wonderfully in our Honey Vanilla Lip Balm Recipe. Also, this cosmetic oil can be used to superfat soap, reduce rancidity, and increase the fragrance’s lifespan. So, this oil was a great addition to our Raspberry CP Soap Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Olive Oil

Olive Oil is often a top choice for soapers, because it is very conditioning, helps harden the bar, and creates a mild bar of soap. While some soapmakers may use only olive oil in Castille soap or mostly olive oil in Marseille soap, it makes the bar a bit slimy and barely has a lather. So, many soapers will combine this oil with others to create a great soap recipe, like in our Creamy Cocoa Craziness Cold Process Soap Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Palm OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Palm Oil

Next, we have another great oil for creating soaps, which is Palm Oil. This soap making ingredient creates a hard, white bar that has a rich, creamy lather. We have used this wonderfully cleansing oil in many recipes, like our Calendula Swirl Soap Recipe and our Beer Cold Process Soap Recipe.

You may find that your cosmetic oil has solidified, this is because the melt point is slightly above room temperature. Luckily, this is easy to fix. All you have to do is set your bottle in a bowl of warm water until the oil melts again.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Pumpkin Seed OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin Seed Oil is rich in vitamins and minerals, which provide great properties for the skin. This oil sinks into the skin without leaving oily residue to repair damaged skin. So, it was a perfect addition to our Pumpkin Sugar Scrub Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Rice Bran OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Rice Bran Oil

Rice Bran Oil has benefits similar to Olive Oil, so it is conditioning and great for soaps! So, we included this lovely soaping oil in our Wine Cold Process Soap Recipe as well as other great cp soap recipes. Plus, this rich, conditioning bar is perfect for both mature and sensitive skin types.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Safflower OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Safflower Oil

Also, we have a nourishing and skin-loving oil that is perfect for homemade products. Safflower Oil is moisturizing and nourishing for the skin, so we included it in many soap recipes and our own Hair Conditioner For Redheads Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Sesame Seed OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Sesame Seed Oil

Another great cosmetic oil is Sesame Seed Oil, which is a light cosmetic ingredient full of nutrients for the skin. We include this lovely oil in recipes like our Giraffe Bubble Bars Recipe or our Beard Balm Recipe. Also, this oil can be used in cp soap to help slow trace, nourish the skin, and provide a silky lather.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Sunflower OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Sunflower Oil

Also, Sunflower Oil works well with palm oil and olive oils to provide a rich creamy lather. Plus, this oil is very moisturizing and will provide a silky feel to the soaps. So, this is perfect for adding to our soap recipes and bath products, like our Natural Beet Root Lip Gloss Recipe.

What is a Carrier Oil?: Sweet Almond OilWhat is a Carrier Oil?: Sweet Almond Oil

Lastly, we have a light oil that will perfectly absorb into the skin Sweet Almond Oil. So, it was a great choice for bath and body recipes like Tranquility Bath Melts Recipe or Fruity Rings Emulsified Sugar Scrub Recipe. Plus, this oil is perfect for adding some conditioning properties to your soaps.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Weigh Out the Turmeric PowderTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: Weigh Out the Turmeric Powder

So let’s begin now with our turmeric face mask! First, we are going to start with the turmeric powder. So, get your scale out. You will also be using a medium sized bowl. Have your scale tared out. Then, go ahead and weigh out 96 grams of your turmeric powder.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Weigh Out the Bentonite Clay PowderTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: Weigh Out the Bentonite Clay Powder

First, let’s talk about Bentonite Clay Powder. Bentonite is a wonderful addition to any face mask! This type of clay, when used in face masks, helps clean impurities from the skin. When used in soaps, bentonite is good at treating oily skin. Also, when used in bath bombs, it helps harden them. In addition, bentonite is useful in thickening lotions.

So, now we are going to weigh out the bentonite. You will add the clay to the same bowl you have your turmeric powder in. Tare out your scale and to the medium bowl, add 224 grams of bentonite clay. Next, mix the two ingredients together until everything seems evenly dispersed.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Add the Vitamin E OilTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: Add the Vitamin E Oil

The next ingredient we will be adding is Vitamin E. Vitamin E from Nature’s Garden comes in the purest form, is also known as Tocepherol T-50. This is not tocopherol acetate (the form found in many vitamin E capsules).   Vitamin E is a wonderful antioxidant and is fabulous for your skin.

So, to the bowl containing the powdered ingredients, you will be adding your Vitamin E oil. Using a disposable pipette you will add 24 drops of the Vitamin E oil right on top of the powder. Finally, use a spoon or spatula to mix the ingredients together.

Turmeric Face Mask recipe: Packaging your Facial MaskTurmeric Face Mask recipe: Packaging your Facial Mask

For this recipe, we decided to package the powder portion of the face mask and the vegetable glycerin separately. We chose to create the facial mask recipe this way for a couple of reasons. First, creating the facial mask mixture separately without the water you will not need to add a preservative. In addition, you will be able to prepare a quick product for your customers. This recipe can be made in just a few minutes. Each 2 ounce jar will create approximately 4 facial masks.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: The Powdered Portion

Now that your powdered portion is complete, you can begin packaging this portion of the facial mask. So, using a spoon, fill each of your 2 ounce white double wall jars and place a lid on each jar.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: The Liquid PortionTurmeric Face Mask Recipe: The Liquid Portion

The next part of our recipe is the vegetable glycerin. Vegetable Glycerin is a humectant, meaning, it draws moisture to your skin. So by adding vegetable glycerin to this recipe, your skin will be left feeling soft and hydrated.

Next,we will prepare the liquid portion of the facial mask. Water, while it is an ingredient in the recipe, will not be used until you are ready mix and apply the face mask. So, we will prepare eight 1/2 ounce bottles for the vegetable glycerin. To each bottle, add 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin and cap them with the white ribbed lids.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Using Your Facial Mask

As we talked about previously, by mixing this mask on an as needed basis, it will prolong the shelf life and can be made quickly when needed. With that being said, let’s talk about using the mask. It is really a simple process. Also, if you are selling this mask as a product, you can sell the jar and bottle as a set and label it with instructions.

Finally, you are ready to use your face mask! You will need one of your jars of powder and a bottle of the vegetable glycerin. Lastly, you will need a small mixing bowl. Starting with the powdered mixture. First, to the small bowl, add about 1 Tablespoon of the powder. Next, you will add about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin to the powder. Finally, you will add 2 Tablespoons of distilled water. Mix this together thoroughly.

Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: Applying your Facial Mask

Once your ingredients are mixed together nicely, apply a thin layer to your face and kick back and relax for a few. Once the mask has hardened, you can rinse your face off in warm water and see how soft and glowing your skin looks and feels!

Turmeric Face Mask: In Conclusion

As always, Nature’s Garden is here to help keep you beautiful as naturally as possible. So we insist that you treat yourself! Apply a mask, relax with a turmeric hot toddy, a magazine and some quiet music. Let your cares go for a while and allow the turmeric face mask do its job!

Turmeric RecipesTurmeric Recipes

Well, we now know the benefits we can get from turmeric powder on our face. So, how about we take a look at some recipes that we can eat! Just follow this link to Allrecipes.com to see just how many types of dishes turmeric is used in.  There are literally hundreds of recipes that incorporate turmeric in them.  One very popular and well-known way to use turmeric is always curry! Curry is actually not a dish as some people think, but a mixture of many different spices and herbs, turmeric being one of them. The use of the term “curry” is generally limited to dishes prepared in a sauce that is made with the mixture of spices.

Using turmeric in recipes isn’t strictly for savory dishes. Sfoof is a traditional Lebanese dessert cake that uses turmeric. There are also smoothie recipes that use turmeric in them and even in hot drinks that are soothing to your soul.  So as you can see, this spice can be added to any type of recipe, internationally or just in your simple everyday drinks! Some people add it for the taste or color, and there are some people that like the idea of using a natural herb in their diet.

Lavender Face Mask RecipeLavender Face Mask Recipe

Today, we will be showing you how to create a lavender face mask recipe.  This mask is perfect for sensitive skin.  We use both kaolin clay and soothing lavender.  Lavender is a wonderful addition to your skin care routine when you need to revitalize and tone your skin.  To read even more about the remarkable lavender benefits in your bath and body products, click here to see our free lavender class.  Kaolin clay was added, in part, to help cleanse your skin.  However, we will look a little bit closer at each of these ingredients below.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Cosmetic Making Supplies Found at Natures Garden

Lavender Flowers Powder
Kaolin Clay Powder
Vitamin E Oil
Vegetable Glycerin
Disposable Pipettes
2 oz White Double Wall Jar
White Dome Lids 58/400
1 oz Clear PET Bottle
White Smooth Disc Lid 20/410

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Other Equipment You Will Need

Scale
Mixing Spoons
Distilled Water

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Total Recipe Amounts

96 grams Lavender Flowers Powder
224 grams Kaolin Clay Powder
24 drops Vitamin E Oil
12 grams Vegetable Glycerin

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Weigh Out the Lavender Powder

First, let’s talk a little bit about lavender powder.  Lavender flowers powder has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, healing, and toning properties.  So, it is a perfect addition to a face mask recipe.

Weigh Out the Lavender PowderNow, you will need to weigh out the lavender flowers powder.  So, get your scale out.  You will also need your medium size bowl.  Then, use your scale to weigh out 96 grams of your lavender flowers powder.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Weigh Out the Kaolin Clay Powder

Next, let’s talk about kaolin clay powder. Kaolin clay is also known as China Clay.  It is a white clay that is wonderful for those with sensitive skin.  This type of clay is often used to make mineral makeup.  It is used in cosmetic products like foundation, blush, and even eye shadow.  When used in a bath bomb, it helps to harden them.  In this case, there are two reasons we added it to this recipe.  First, it will help harden the face mask when applied to your face.   In addition, like most cosmetic clays, kaolin clay will help clean your skin and help with removing toxins.

Weigh Out the Kaolin Clay Powder
So, go ahead and weigh out the kaolin.  You will add the clay to the same bowl you have added your lavender to.  To your medium bowl, add 224 grams of your kaolin white clay.  Then, mix the two ingredients together.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Add the Vitamin E Oil

The next ingredient we will be adding is vitamin E.  Vitamin E oil from Natures Garden comes in the purest form, this is called Tocopherol T-50.  It is not tocopherol acetate.  Vitamin E oil is an antioxidant and is fabulous for your skin.

Add the Vitamin E OilNext, to your bowl containing the powdered ingredients, you will be adding your pure Vitamin E oil.  So, use a disposable pipette to add 24 drops of the Vitamin E oil right to the powder.  Then, once again, mix the ingredients together.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Packaging Your Facial Mask

For this recipe, we decided to package the powder portion of the mask and vegetable glycerin separately.  We chose to create the facial mask recipe this way for a couple of reasons.  First, creating the facial mask mixture separately without the water you will not need to add a preservative. In addition, you will be able to prepare a quick product for your customers.  This project can be created in just a few minutes.  Each two ounce jar will create approximately 4 facial masks.

Packaging Your Facial Mask:  The Powdered Portion

The Powdered Portion

Now, your powdered portion is complete.  You can begin packaging your powdered portion of the facial mask.  So, use a spoon to fill each of your 2 oz white double wall jars.  You will be able to create approximately 8 jars of facial mask.

Packaging Your Facial Mask:  The Liquid Portion

First, let’s talk about the vegetable glycerin.  Vegetable glycerin is a humectant.  This means it will draw moisture to your skin.  So, we add vegetable glycerin to the facial mask to help leave our skin moisturized.  It is important because, when using a facial mask, you are using ingredients that draw impurities from your skin.  So, adding vegetable glycerin will help to leave your skin feeling moisturized.

The Liquid Portion

Next, we will prepare the vegetable liquid portion of the facial mask.  While yes, water needs to be mixed to a mask, we will not be adding it at this point.  That will come later when it is time to use your mask.  So, we will prepare eight bottles of vegetable glycerin.  To each of your half ounce bottles add 12 grams of vegetable glycerin.  Then, place a white ribbed lid on each bottle.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Using Your Facial Mask

We talked earlier about packaging our mask.  So, in order to use the lavender mask, you will need to mix it.  As we talked about before, by mixing it on an as needed basis, it will prolong the shelf life and make it a very fast project to create.  With that being said, we will now talk about how you can use the mask.  It really is a simple process.  In addition, if you are selling this mask as a product, you can sell the jar and bottle as a set and label it with instructions.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Mixing Your Facial Mask

You will need one of your jars of powder.  Also, you will need one of the bottles of vegetable glycerin.  Finally, you will need your small mixing bowl at this time.

Mixing Your Facial Mask

We will start with the lavender powdered mixture.  First, to your small bowl, add about 1 tablespoon of the powder.

Adding Vegetable Glycerin

Next, you will need your bottle of vegetable glycerin.  Then, add about 1/2 teaspoon of your vegetable glycerin to the powder.

Finally, you will add your distilled water.  Ultimately we added about 2 tablespoons.  Lastly, mix to incorporate all of the ingredients together.

Lavender Face Mask Recipe:  Applying Your Facial Mask

Once you have mixed your ingredients together, simply apply a thin layer of the lavender face mask to your face.  Then, relax and allow the lavender mask to harden.  Finally, once the mask has completely hardened, use warm water to remove the clay mask.

Other Ways to Use Lavender:

Natures Garden also carries a variety of other types of lavender as well.  So, let’s take a look at other ways to use lavender in your products.

Lavender Essential Oils and Lavender Flowers

First, let’s look at lavender essential oils.  We carry a couple of types.  First, of course, is our pure lavender essential oil.  Our lavender 40/42 essential oil can be used in a variety of soap and cosmetic recipes.  In addition to soap, you can use it in anything from powder, to lotion to lip balm to hair conditioners.  The sky is the limit.

Lavandin essential oil is next on our list.  For those wondering, “What is lavandin?”, it is a lavender hybrid.  Lavandin does have an aroma that is similar to a lavender essential oil but is not the exact same scent.  It is still a natural and pure essential oil as well.  It can also be used in a variety of soap and cosmetic products.   On a personal note, I especially love this essential oil mixed with peppermint essential oil.  When mixed 2 parts lavandin to 1 part peppermint essential oil, it smells amazingly fresh and clean!

Finally, our whole lavender flowers not only comes in a powdered version, we also carry dried whole lavender flowers.  These can be used infused in lotions, added to bath bombs, or used to create a lavender bath tea just to name a few.

Lavender Fragrance Oil

First, let’s talk about Natures Garden’s Lavender Flowers Fragrance Oil.  This lavender scent is that of true lavender flowers.

Next, on this list of Natures Garden fragrance oils is Lavender Luxury Fragrance Oil.  This lavender aroma starts with notes of lavender, bergamot, eucalyptus, along with citrus zest.  Then, it is followed by notes of lily and sage.  Finally, it sits on base notes of pine, cool camphor, and clove.

Of course, we couldn’t forget to mention Lavender Martini Fragrance Oil.  This one is unique and extremely popular here at Natures Garden, especially it soap.  I would consider this one a must smell fragrance.  To explain this one, think gin meets lavender with an effervescent pop.

Lavender Mint WOW Fragrance Oil is the perfect combination of both mint and lavender.  This lavender scent brings the two together perfectly.  This fragrance oil really is the balance without one overpowering the other.

Fun Lavender Facts:

Now, let’s talk about lavender itself.  Lavender grows wild in Southern Europe, Australia and the United States.  There are many lavender fields that you can actually visit.  Can you imagine visiting one of these farms and begin engulfed in the aroma of lavender?  To find just a few of these fields, read more on the country living website here.

While Natures Garden sells lavender only for use in soap and cosmetic recipes, it is often used in products like smoothies.  Check out these lavender facts and smoothies from Green Blender.

Another reason to love lavender is for its ability to repel insects like flies, fleas, and mosquitoes.  In addition to the fabulous floral aroma of lavender, they are so easy to grow.  It will make a great addition to your flower garden.  They also attract those adorable little butterflies.  Read more from Natural Living Ideas.

20 grams of the Pink Salt Coarse Ground
Sprinkle of the 24k Gold Mica Pigment (less than a gram)
Sprinkle of the Diamond Dust Mica Pigment (less than a gram)

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Preparing Your Work Space

Before you start, we would like to suggest that you make a few preparations. A pair of gloves is recommended, as you will need to mix with your hands. An apron may be useful to protect your clothing.  Also, a hair net and face mask are recommended. Second, you are going to want to prepare all your ingredients and supplies for this recipe. This will ensure that the project runs smoothly and you have all the materials that you need. Finally, you should clean your work space and equipment to make sure that your recipe will be clean and free of dirt.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing the Dry Ingredients

First, we are going to combine all of your dry ingredients into one of your mixing bowls. So, get a medium or large mixing bowl ready. Also, you will need a gram scale in order to measure these ingredients. Then, to your bow,l weigh out 460 grams of the Baking Soda, 410 grams of the Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, 224 grams of the Cream of Tartar, and 72 grams of the Corn Starch.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Mixing the Dry IngredientsPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Mixing the Dry Ingredients

Next, you are going to mix these previously measured ingredients together. You will need to make sure that these dry ingredients are mixed together well before moving on to the next step. Also, make sure you break up any clumps in the powders. This will ensure that each essential ingredient is evenly dispersed and clump-free throughout your entire batch.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing the Wet IngredientsPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Weighing the Wet Ingredients

Now, you are going to weigh your wet ingredients. You can do this part of the recipe one of two ways. You could weigh your ingredients into a small bowl and transfer them into your large mixing bowl of dry ingredients. Alternatively, you can measure the wet ingredients into the same mixing bowl as your dry ingredients. Either way you will need to measure out 200 grams of the vegetable glycerin, 24 grams of the rice bran oil, and 14 grams of the Spring Rain Fragrance Oil.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Combining the Wet and Dry IngredientsPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Combining the Wet and Dry Ingredients

Now that both your wet and dry ingredients have been measured into your large mixing bowl you are ready to mix. Use your clean, gloved hands to mix together all of your ingredients. It is important that you mix these together well because you will be dividing the dough into portions. So, you will want to make sure that each portion has about the same amount of the ingredients.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Separating the Batch

Next, you are going to be separating your mixed bubble bar dough into two equal portions. So, grab your two other mixing bowls. You will need to put half of your batch into each of the bowls. You can eyeball the amounts or measure them if your would prefer. But, you just need to make sure that there is about half in each bowl.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe:Preparing the White PortionPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe:Preparing the White Portion

The white portion of your batch is very simple to prepare. The hardest part is making sure that this bowl contains about half of the total dough. After, you have divided up your batch just roll the uncolored bubble bar into a ball. You can leave this white bubble bar dough ball in this bowl until we are ready to roll out the layers. So, you can move on to preparing the other half of this recipe.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Preparing the Pink PortionPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Finish Preparing the Pink Portion

The second portion of the bubble bar dough is going to a bit more fun. While the first portion of this recipe was left uncolored, this section is going to be made a pretty shade of pink. Plus, this half of the bubble bar dough even uses Himalayan Pink Salt. This will create a pretty pink layer that would be wonderful for a diy salt soak. So, lets get started on creating the fun half of this bubble bar recipe!

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Adding the Colorant to the Pink PortionPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Adding the Colorant to the Pink Portion

Now, you are going to prepare the other half of your bubble bar dough. So, take this second half and add in three drops of the Tomato Red FUN Soap Colorant. This amount is perfect for giving us a pretty shade of pink for this layer of the bubble bar. You will need to use your gloved hands to mix this color into the dough evenly. You will want to want sure that you don’t have any specks of dye left unincorporated.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Adding the Colorant to the Pink PortionPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Adding the Colorant to the Pink Portion

Now that this portion is colored, you will need to finish up this half of the batch. First, you are going to add in the Himalayan Pink Salt to your dough. So, weigh out 10 grams of the fine ground pink salt. Make sure that you mix this ingredient into the dough very well. Once all of the fine pink salt has been incorporated you can roll the dough into a ball. Now, you are ready for the next step in the process.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Flattening Out the DoughPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Flattening Out the Dough

Next, you are going to be rolling out the dough. Before you start you are going to want to lay down either a silicone mat or a piece of parchment paper. This will be used to roll our bubble bar once we have made our layers. Then, you will need to sprinkle this mat or paper with a bit of baking soda. This will make sure that your bubble bar is easy to roll and doesn’t stick to your mat or paper.

Our outside layer is going to be the pink portion, so you will need to roll this portion out first. You will need to use a rolling pin to flatten out this bubble bar dough. Try to roll the dough into a rectangular shape. Also, you will want the dough to be about a quarter inch thick.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Flattening Out the Second LayerPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Flattening Out the Second Layer

After your first layer has been rolled out, you are ready to flatten out the second layer. So, take your uncolored dough ball and place it right on top of the pink layer. Now, flatten this layer out to match the rectangular shape of the first layer. You will be finished once the layers are about the same thickness and size. But, you don’t need to be exact. The slight imperfections will add to the uniqueness of each bubble bar!

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Creating the RollPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Creating the Roll

Now that your two layers have been made you are ready to roll your bubble bar loaf. So, turn your parchment paper of silicone mat vertically, as shown to the right. Next, you will lift up the edge that is closest to you. You will need to begin to roll the dough onto itself. This process is similar to how you would wrap a jelly roll or pumpkin roll. You will want to go slowly as you roll and continue until all of the dough has been rolled into the loaf.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Topping the Bubble BarPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Topping the Bubble Bar

Once the bubble bar loaf has been created, you are ready to start decorating the top of your bath and body product. Part of the decorating will be done with Coarse Ground Himalayan Pink Salt. You will be sprinkling the top of the loaf with the coarse ground pink salt. You should need about 20 grams of this for the top, but you can use more or less as you see fit. Also, you will need you slightly press the sprinkled pink salt into the top of the loaf. Otherwise, the pink salt will be likely to fall off easily and you will lose all of your pretty shades of pink salt.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Adding The Mica Dust

The other ingredient that you will use to decorate is mica dust. This lovely powder is perfect for creating a bath and body product that shimmers and shines. For this recipe you will use both the 24k Gold Mica Pigment and the Diamond Dust Mica Pigment. Liberally sprinkle the top of your loaf with each mica powder. After, use a craft brush to remove any excess mica. Dusting off the mica will make sure that your bars don’t have streaks of gold mica after you slice your bars.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Slicing the Bubble BarsPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Slicing the Bubble Bars

Now you are ready to slice your bubble bar loaf into pieces! We suggest making each bar somewhere between one inch and two inches. This will make sure you have enough for each bath. Depending on the thickness you choose, you will have about eight individual bubble bars.

Once your slices have been made all you have to do is wait for your bars to set up. Based on how long our bubble bar took, it should take about 48-72 hours, or 2-3 days, for your bubble bars to completely set up. However, this can take longer depending on your climate. You will know that your bars are ready to use when they have hardened.

Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Finished ProductPink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe: Finished Product

Finally, the gorgeous Pink Salt Bubble Bar Recipe is finished. Now you can store them, use them for a luxurious bath, or do what ever you’d like. If you are ready to use this beautiful bath product, then just crumble the bubble bar under some warm, running water. The easiest way to do this is do this is to draw a bath and crumble your bar as the tub is filling up. Vegan Lip Balm KitVegan Lip Balm Kit

The Vegan Lip Balm Kit is a recipe that is silky and extremely moisturizing, like many other Nature’s Garden lip balm recipes. Since this lip care recipe includes various oils and butters that are soft and long-lasting, this is a perfect recipe for great lip care. Not only is this silky lip balm perfect for lip care, but this recipe is completely vegan! The lip balm recipe doesn’t use any products that are come from animals. Typically, lip balm recipes use beeswax, so we replaced this ingredient with candelilla wax. This alternative is plant based, but it is still just as great for your lips. Also, this kit creates twenty-four full tubes of vegan lip balm, so you will have plenty of lip balm with even some to share. So, this kit is all around perfect for anyone looking for a great lip balm that happens to have the additional bonus of being entirely vegan!

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Clean and Sanitize

You are going to want to make sure that you are completely prepared before you begin this project. So, you’ll need to gather and sanitize all the necessary ingredients and equipment. First, gather all of the equipment that you will need to complete this project. Also, sanitize your workspace and any other equipment. This will prevent potentially contaminating the lip balm and make the process easier to complete.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Setting up the Double BoilerVegan Lip Balm Kit Setting up the Double Boiler

Before you start make sure you know how to create a double boiler which will be used to melt your oils, waxes, and butters. You will need the two differently sized pots and a stove top. So, take the larger pot and add two or three inches of water. Then, place the smaller pot into the water. Place the double boiler on the stove and you’re ready to use! Once you have prepared your waxes, butters, and oils, place them in the smaller pot. You will then need to turn your oven on a low heat setting. Make sure that you keep a careful eye on the water level and make sure the ingredients don’t get too hot. You do not want to overheat the oils.

First, you will weigh out a few of the ingredients that will take longer to melt. So, retrieve a gram scale and tare out the weight of a bowl. Then, weigh the appropriate amounts of candelilla wax and cocoa butter into the bowl. After, transfer these ingredients to the small pot of the double boiler and turn on the stove top. While these ingredients are melting move on to the next step.

Next, you will weigh out the remaining oils for the recipe. So, tare out the bowl on the gram scale. Then, weigh out 37 grams of Coconut Oil 76, 35 grams of Castor Oil, and 1 gram of Vitamin E Oil into the bowl. After most of the candelilla wax and cocoa butter has melted, add this mixture of oils to the smaller pot in the double boiler. Make sure that your oils don’t burn as you wait for everything to be melted. Finally, once everything has melted, you can remove the melted oils from the stove top and transfer them into your bowl.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Adding Optional IngredientsVegan Lip Balm Kit Adding Optional Ingredients

Now, you are at a point where you can add in some optional ingredients. These ingredients could be flavoring, lip tint, or stevia sweetener. If you choose to flavor your lip balm, then add 20 drops of the provided Strawberry Sorbet Flavoring Oil. However, you could leave your lip balm plain if you’d prefer. Also, you can add a bit of the Stevia Sweetener to your lip balm. Although it won’t dissolve, adding a small amount shouldn’t be too noticeable. If you choose you can also crush it up a bit to create a finer powder. You also have the option to include a bit more of the provided sweetener to provide a lip scrub feel. Although you can add a lip tint to your melted oils, there is no lip tint included in the kit. After you decide the specifics of your lip balm you’re ready for the next step.

Finally, you are ready to transfer the melted lip balm to your lip balm tubes. You will want to move quickly to prevent the lip balm from setting up before you are able to transfer. So, take your plastic transfer pipettes and move the melted lip balm into the tubes. Make sure you allow your lip balm time to set up before you move the tubes or add the cap. So, after the lip balm entirely sets up your lip balm is ready to use!
