hibiscus Hibiscus

Hello everyone! Don’t you just love hibiscus Oh yeah, I know the thoughts of the gorgeous flowers just popped into your heads. Did you know that hibiscus actually has many different uses besides making gardens look pretty? Well it does! It can be used in many different industries in fact, like hair care, soaping, and even bath and body products!

Hibiscus is a very well-known flower. It is also lesser known as the rose mallow, a genus of the mallow family, and can be either annual or perennial. The hibiscus flower is actually the state flower of Hawaii and the national flower of Haiti. One species of hibiscus, the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, is the national flower of Malaysia while the Hibiscus syriacus is the national flower of South Korea. Pretty cool right? There are several hundred species of hibiscus flowers known to exist, and countless cross-species. They can vary in color from red to purple, orange to yellow, and even pink or white. In Hindu worship, the red hibiscus flower represents the goddess Kali, and is used as a sacrifice to her as well as to the Lord Ganesha. When depicted in many versions of art, the goddess is seen merging with the flower.

This beautiful flower is used in many industries such as soaping and hair care. When used for hair care, hibiscus has many benefits. It can help prevent dandruff and premature graying, as well as reduce hair loss. It also has been used as dye for natural hair, to help with split ends and thicken hair, and stimulate hair growth. When used in bath and body products, hibiscus is great for softening and smoothing skin and it even has some wrinkle smoothing properties! Some research in Chinese herbology also indicates that extract from hibiscus rosa-sinensis can absorb ultra violet rays by working as an anti-solar agent. As well as providing these amazing skin care properties when used in soaps, hibiscus also is a natural way to color soaps pink or red. We have many awesome products containing hibiscus here at Nature’s Garden. The easiest way to access them is by typing “hibiscus” into our search bar on our website. That will take you directly to a page titled “Search Results for Hibiscus.”

Are you just jumping with excitement over all the great uses for hibiscus? Then you definitely need to try some of our fantastic recipes like our Firming Facial Mask or Herbal Infused Shea Lotion! They will be some new treats that you will just love! One more fun fact! Did you know that in Hawaii and Tahiti girls wear the hibiscus flower to symbolize their relationship status? If worn on the left ear, she is either in a relationship or married. If she has the flower on her left ear, then she is single. Hibiscus is a product that you definitely should add to your list of projects! Watch out for more Enlightened by Layla!

Calendula

calendula Calendula

Hello everybody! Are you getting ready for Halloween? Have your own little ghosts and goblins chosen their costumes yet? I can’t believe Halloween is only weeks away! Well, for all you crafters out there, are you looking for a good natural herb to include in your soaps or bath melts? Have you tried calendula? Calendula is a great herb that is more commonly known as the marigold flower. It can be used in many different industries such as cosmetics and soaping. So get ready, calendula is pretty awesome and would be a great addition to future projects!

Calendula is a very well known therapeutic herb. The word is a modern Latin diminutive of calendae which means “little calendar” or “little clock.” The flower goes along with its name because it usually blooms every month or every full moon. Another name for it is “Mary’s Gold,” referring to the Virgin Mary. Some Catholic ceremonies use the flower as a way to honor her. The flower is typically bright yellow, orange or gold. In existence, there are over 100 varieties of calendula. Egyptians considered it to have rejuvenating powers. It possesses anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties and is a big help with keeping skin smooth and healthy. Calendula is used in many industries such as bath and body products. It is great for people who suffer from varicose veins. After applying calendula to the affected areas for a few weeks, the veins have been known to shrink down. It also helps with dermatitis and acne problems. It also helps to heal minor cuts and bruising as well as some bug bites and stings and even burns. Here’s a cool use, if you use calendula as a hair product, it helps to improve your hair’s shine and makes it softer. It also will bring out blonde or brunette highlights!

This herb is a great ingredient for cold process soap. In fact, we have a recipe here at Nature’s Garden for Calendula Sunshine Cold Process Soap. Not only can it be used in soaps, calendula can also be used a decorative element for soaps. We also have a great recipe for Calendula Bath Melts. We also sell Calendula Flowers Powder and even whole Calendula Flowers. On our homepage, if you just type Calendula into our search bar it will take you right to a page titled “Search Results for Calendula.” All of our recipes and products with calendula are right there available for purchase. Did you know that in the 18th and 19th centuries calendula was used to color cheese? Neither did I! Neat though, right? However, here at Nature’s Garden we only sell calendula for external purposes only, not for food. And please do not take my blog as medical advice! Always make sure to ask your doctor before using anything as a substitute for medical treatment!

calendula products

Have I convinced you that calendula is just pure awesome! There are so many different uses for it, even in food! Did you know that marigold leaves are completely edible? Some people use them on a salad as garnish to spruce up the color! It was even once used as a dye for fabrics! Now come on, this product is purely awesome, make sure to add it to your future projects and watch out for more Enlightened by Layla!

Citric Acid

citric acidCitric Acid

Hey everyone! Do you love all citrusy kinds of foods? Or maybe you just like the smells of them? Well here at Nature’s Garden we actually offer citrus acid for you to add to your products. Citrus acid is a weak, natural, and organic acid generally found in fruits, such as lemons, oranges, limes, tangerines, and grapefruit. It can be used for soaps, cosmetics and for awesome bath bombs. (Come on, we all know how much fun bath bombs are!) However, it can also be used in food production and has many other uses as well.

Citric acid is in most fruits and vegetables and is found in the metabolisms of most living things. When being used in cosmetic products it helps to lower the ph formulation. When being used to make soaps, it generally provides better foam for the soap and helps it to soften in water. It is also an active ingredient in cleaning solutions for kitchens and bathrooms. When making bath bombs, combine the citric acid with baking soda. Did you know that every year around the world, about one million tons of citric acid are produced commercially? Can you even picture that much? Neither can I! Another fun fact, citric acid can be used in shampoos to wash waxes and coloring out of your hair!

This acid is found in many different fruits and some vegetables. It can be used in food production as well. Citric acid is a natural preservative and can be used to add a sour taste to food and drinks. However it is also used in ice cream! Do you know what it is used for? It is used to keep the “fat globules” separated! A weird thought, but still cool! However, here at Nature’s Garden, we sell our citric acid for uses in cosmetics, soaps, and bath bombs.

I hope that you all have figured out everything on our new site! Well if you haven’t figured it all out yet, and still need a little help navigating everything, don’t worry! We’re here to help you! The easiest way for you to get to our citric acids on our website is to type “citric acid” into our search bar at the top of the site. That will take you directly to a page titled “Search Results for “Citric Acid.”” We have two different options there. You can either purchase just regular citric acid, or you can purchase it in bulk.

citric acid page

Citric acid is definitely a neat and fun product! If you are looking for something new for your next project, or even future ones, try something with citric acid! Maybe some of our awesome bath bomb recipes? Or you can add it in for the next time you’re making soap! Have fun! Please let us know if you have any thoughts, questions or concerns! Cocoa Butter

This entry was posted in bath and body, bath products, Enlightened by Layla, melt and pour soap, Natures Garden, Soap making supplies and tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on by .

cocoa butter Cocoa Butter

For all you crafters out there, do you like to use cocoa butter in your products? Well guess what? We offer cocoa butter here at Nature’s Garden! Awesome right? We offer natural cocoa butter, (not deodorized so that it still smells faintly of chocolate) and we also have deodorized cocoa butter. But hold on, it gets even better! We also offer Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Soap for all of you soap makers out there!

Cocoa butter is considered a luxury butter that is actually a saturated, very hard fat. It can be used be in very many products. The obvious, chocolate, is just pure delicious. I couldn’t help but mention it, what girl doesn’t love chocolate! Now that I got my chocolate thoughts out, it can also be used in very many of our products here at Nature’s Garden. Cocoa butter can be used in bath and body products such as lip balms, lotions, soaps, scrubs, massage bars, and lip gloss.

There are many benefits to your skin when using cocoa butter in your bath and body products. Cocoa butter is very high in antioxidants which helps fight signs of aging and many skin stressers. Come on ladies, who doesn’t want to look younger? It helps fight signs of aging, how awesome is that? Many people also use cocoa butter to help reduce their stretch marks, however there are no guarantees that it actually helps. Cocoa butter also helps to keep your skin hydrated and some people also use to help with skin irritations like dermatitis and eczema. See why so many bath and body products contain cocoa butter? It’s just amazing!

Our cocoa butter at Nature’s Garden is consisted of many essential fatty acids: palmitic (28%), stearic (33%), linoleic (3%) and oleic (35%). For all the soap makers, when using cocoa butter in your products, make sure to use the right amount. If too much is used, it can result in a very hard and dry soap. Use it in conjunction with unsaturated oils like castor oil or olive oil or with sticky ingredients like lanolin or shea butter. The easiest way to get to our cocoa butter on our website, is to type “cocoa butter” into our search bar at the top of our site. It will take you right to a page titled “Search Results for “Cocoa Butter.”” That page shows all of the cocoa butter products we offer. You can choose from our Golden Natural Cocoa Butter or our Deoderized Cocoa Butter. Our cocoa butter melt and pour is also available on that page as well.

Cocoa butter is awesome to use in your bath and body products! It is a fat actually taken from cocoa beans! Come on ladies, if you don’t already use it, I’m sure you’re dying to now! It actually helps signs of aging and I know you just can’t get the thought of that out of your head! This is a great product to try in your next projects, and watch out for more Enlightened by Layla! beeswax Beeswax

Hey all crafters out there! Do you love being creative with your crafts? We certainly do! How do you feel about beeswax as an ingredient? Does it make you think of spring with the buzz of bees all around you? Or maybe the word brings warm delicious honey to mind? Well, it may surprise you that the creations of those busy bees out there is also used for soaps, candles, and other bath and body products! I know it sounds a little bit crazy, but it’s true! And we actually sell beeswax pastilles here at Nature’s Garden! You should definitely try it out!

Beeswax is originally made from the honeycomb of bees. It can be used for medicinal purposes such as relieving pain and lowering cholesterol. It is also used for diarrhea, ulcers, swelling and can even be used for hiccups! Beeswax can also be used as stiffening agents in foods and drinks. Besides soaps and candles, other bath and body products can contain it as well, such as cosmetics and toiletries. It can be used to make soaps harder and help them last longer. It can also be used as a thickener and emulsifier.

There are many many benefits for your health and skin care by using beeswax in your products! Besides the medicinal purposes, if used in lotions, it can act as a protector for your skin. It will form a barrier on your skin in protection from irritants. It will also help your skin to retain moisture. Another bath and body product, lip balms, can also contain beeswax. It can help your lips from becoming chapped. Awesome right? I mean how much better could it get? It is such a versatile product!

Here at Nature’s Garden we actually sell beeswax pastilles. No chemicals were used to bleach our wax, it was naturally bleached from air and sun exposure. We also offer a free beeswax class that will teach you how to properly use it in your great products! And on top of that, we also have a free recipe for a beeswax candle! If you’re a candle maker, you should definitely make a note to yourself to try this awesome candle as an upcoming project. Now to get to those products on our website, there are a couple of ways. First, you can just type “beeswax” into the search bar on the top of our site. That will take your directly to a page titled “Search Results for “Beeswax”” which has all three of those products. You can also go to our Candle Supplies option at the top of the site and hit Candle Waxes in the drop box. The pastilles are available there. The recipe and class are available by going to the link at the top of the site that shows a little green box that says “Free Classes and Recipes,” or there is also a link to the classes and recipes on the left of the site.
