lavender scent Making Lavender Soap

For us, making cold process soap is almost a daily occurrence.  With all of the fragrance oils that are tested, new samples that are tested, and fun recipes that are made, the creative team at Natures Garden is always busy doing something.

A few days ago, we wanted to make a Lavender Soap Recipe (with cold process).  Through our brainstorming, we created a great recipe, with a cool design concept that even included sprinkling a small amount of lavender flowers to the top of the soap.

Seeing that Lavender Martini Fragrance Oil was not yet used for a recipe, we thought it would be the perfect fit.  The soaping results showed that it was a “Perfect Pour.  No ricing, no acceleration.  Very great unique scent.  No discoloration.  Scent is clean.”  So, soaping with this oil was not going to pose any issues.

To use one word to describe working with this fragrance oil, it would be flawless.  The color design for our recipe contained 4 colors including: a light purple, medium purple, dark purple, and finally white.  Not only did the fragrance allow for ample time to get these colors achieved, but we were also able to accomplish a gorgeous in the pot swirl too.

So now, since we are on the topic of how wonderful this fragrance oil was to work with, it should also be mentioned how fabulously strong and amazing this scent smells.  Once the Lavender Martini scent was in the soap batter, it seemed to fill the work area instantaneously.  The lavender martini aroma was strong!  We were all super excited as to how this soap loaf recipe was going to turn out.  Even just walking past the loaf as it set up was a foreshadow of just how aromatic the scent was.

The next day, we unmolded and braced ourselves for the soap slicing.  As we sliced the soap loaf, it seemed that with each slice the smell of lavender martini was more intense in the air.  This recipe was just an overall win in every category!

So, if you are looking for a great cold process soap scent, and your interest is peaked in giving this fragrance oil a try in cold process soap, we highly suggest you do.  Like we mentioned earlier, we soap a lot of fragrances, but this one was definitely eye opening.

bright scentRainbow Fragrance Oil – Fragrance Oil Spotlight

The rainbow is quite the phenomenon.  It is a reflection and refraction of light in water droplets and becomes a spectrum of light that appears in the sky after a rain fall.  When it arcs in the sky before us, it appears opposite of the sun and we see 7 different colors as a result.  These colors are: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.  What some may not know is there are approximately 8 different kinds of rainbow, but the most impressive is the double rainbow.  This is just a reflection of itself.  When you see a true double rainbow, the second rainbow will begin where the first rainbows color end.  Natures Gardens Rainbow Fragrance Oil is a bright scent, a phenomenon itself.  Loaded with an array of soft scents from fruits, to flowers, to a lovely musk, when you first smell this bold and colorful scent, you will be amazed.  Like the sight of a rainbow this fragrance oil is very delightful and beautifully displayed!

Easy Lip Balm

easy lip balm Easy Lip Balm

Making your own lip balm is one of the easiest things to do.  By using Natures Gardens all natural lip balm base, you can quickly create your own lip balm.  With a few other supplies such as lip balm containers, flavoring, lip tints, and sweetener; you can take your lip balm to the next level.

To make your very own flavored lip balm using the all natural base, here is what you have to have:
All Natural Lip Balm Base
Lip Flavorings- now this list contains 24 different flavorings to choose from.  But, if you are wondering which flavorings are the most popular right now, they are: Juicy Watermelon, Strawberry Sorbet, Tropical Paradise, and Frozen Margarita.
Powdered Stevia (optional) but here is what you want to sweeten your lip balm or you can sweeten your lipbalm using chocolate wafers or white chocolate wafers.
Lip Tints (optional) but here if you want to tint your lips
Microwavable Bowl
Stirring Utensil
Pipettes (optional) but a great way to transfer the liquid lip balm to its container before it hardens
Containers-  this link will show a variety of lip balm containers from sticks to tins

Now, when it comes to actually making the lip balm, here are the steps:

1.  Scoop out some of the all natural lip balm base.  Place this into your microwaveable bowl.  Place the bowl into the microwave.  Heat in 30 second increments until melted.  If you are going to sweeten your lipbalm using chocolate wafers, you will want to melt the chocolate along with your lip balm base.

2.  Once the lip balm is melted, carefully remove it from the microwave.  If you are tinting your lip balm, add some colorant now and stir.  Obviously, the more colorant you add, the darker your lip balm will be.

3.  If you are adding stevia, you will want to crush it down even finer.  Because the stevia will not dissolve but only suspend in the lip balm the finer you can get it the better.  Once added, stir.

4.   Next, add a few drops of flavoring, and then stir again.

5.  Finally transfer your lip balm into its packaging.  Allow the lip balm to fully set up (which will not take too long).  Once your lip balm is firm, it is ready to use.

Making your own flavored lip balm is just that simple.  A great project to do with kids at birthday parties, sleepovers, or on a rainy day; this craft is simple, takes very little time, and is super easy to clean up.

Now, if you are interested in making your own lip balm from scratch, there are also other free recipes available on the Natures Garden website.  To view these recipes, you can simply click on this link.  Offering quite the variety, some of Natures Gardens more popular recipes are: Chocolate Avocado Lip Balm RecipeVegan Lip Butter, and the Natural Beet Root Lip Gloss Recipe, but there are many more to choose from.

Hawaiian scentPuakenikeni Hawaiian Flower Fragrance Oil – Fragrance Oil Spotlight

The Puakenikeni flower is found on the Hawaiian Islands but is also available by some mainland florists.  These very inviting flowers are found on bushes and trees in the Pacific Islands.  They are most often used to make leis that are very fragrant and simply lovely.  In fact, these leis are one of the main things a tourist looks forward to when visiting Hawaii.  The translation of puakenikeni literally means, ‘ten-cent flower’ because its blooms were once strung and sold as ten-cent leis!  This Hawaiian scent is strong, and reminds one of the beautiful gardenia.  The puakenikeni flower colors can range anywhere from white-ish yellow to orange and even to rich gold.  Our replica of the Puakenikeni flower has been describe as “spot on” by one of our clientele who lives in Hawaii, and this was quite a compliment for this Hawaiian scent!

What does Puakenikeni Hawaiian Flower Fragrance Oil smell like?

The Hawaiian flower typically used in leis.  This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is a delicate, yet exotic heady blend of velvety island floral and lush greens which invoke feelings of intrigue, sensuality and femininity.

Wine ScentCabernet Sauvignon Wine Fragrance Oil- Fragrance Oil Spotlight

Cabernet Sauvignon has a long history that was first introduced in  the year 1820.  After decades of experimentation, the general view of Cabernet Sauvignon has improved as more winemakers find ways to complement their native grape varieties with Cabernet as a blending component.  The grape itself is small with seeds, and has a thick black skin.  It has a not too sweet grape flavor that is inviting and pleasurable.  When it comes to this wine scent, our customers were astounded with the performance of Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Fragrance in their products.  There is no strong “alcohol” scent and they are left with a wonderful grape aroma that is surprisingly delightful, full bodied, and completely high in demand when it comes to wine scents.

What does Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Fragrance Oil smell like?

This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is the sweet aroma of wild grapes enhanced with hints of strawberries and sweet sugary notes with a light alcoholic background. A wonderful aroma of red sweet cabernet wine.  An NG Original Scent!

How do our customers use Cabernet Sauvignon Fragrance Oil?

For any candle crafters and home scenters, Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Fragrance Oil is used in WOW, Joy, Pillar of Bliss, and Soy waxes.  The scent has very strong hot and cold throw, especially in soy and Joy waxes.  This delightful wine scent is even used in oil burners, room fresheners, aroma beads, and smelly jellies.

For any bath and body crafters, this fragrance oil offers uniqueness for your line.  The usage rate for this wine scent is 3%.  Cabernet Sauvignon does have a vanillin content is 6.5%, so Vanilla White Color Stabilizer is advised by our customers to stabilize discoloration in finished products.  The most common products that customers use this wine scent to make are: spritz lotions, whipped body butters, bath bombs, salt scrubs, melt and pour soaps, and bath gels.  Finally, for those of you that are cold process soapers, this fragrance oil is unmatched.  Here are the official results: Perfect Pour, no ricing, no acceleration, discolors to a dark brown, but is totally worth it.

HSCG 2014 Conference

Posted by Deborah Ward on May 28th, 2014 in candle making supplies, Fragrance Oils, Natures Garden, Soap making supplies, wholesale fragrance oils | Comments Off

HSCG 2014Last week, Cindy and I attended the HSCG 2014 Conference in Tucson, Arizona.  Spoiler alert… we had a blast!

At first, Cindy and I did not know what to expect.  This was our very first time attending an HSCG Conference.  We were nervous and excited at the same time.  It was going to be such a treat to meet our customers and other soapmakers and crafters.

Upon our arrival to the breath taking Loews Resort (where the conference was held) we quickly wanted to get our vendor booth set up and functional.  Since we brought a sample of each of the 816 fragrance oils that Natures Garden currently carries, we knew getting them unpacked and displayed was going to truly be a feat.

Walking into the conference area was inspiring, there was quite an array of other vendors also setting up and preparing for the conference.  Briskly walking past the displays, it was very easy to see that there was going to be something there for every attendee from fragrances to essential oils, unscented bases, educational books, supplies, and packaging; just to name a few.

Once we settled into our area, we quickly started to unpack and set up our displays.  People were already starting to register in the lobby and it was very easy to see everyone’s excitement for the conference to officially begin.  There was most definitely a contagious thrill mounting in the air.

hscg conferenceAs for the Natures Garden booth; we did bring a few other products for our booth, but the main focus was the fragrance samples.  We saw the HSCG Conference as a chance to let people smell fragrances that they always wondered about.  And boy, let me tell you the attendees were ecstatic over the scents.  It was very energizing to see the excitement as people sniffed away and asked questions.

It was very easy to see from the first night that this conference was going to be a huge success.  The charisma and vigor that all of the attendees, staff, vendors, and guild members had was inspiring.  Everyone was so very genuine and nice; not only to us, but amongst each other as well.  And, it was so very nice to see many of the experienced soap crafters giving advice, sharing tricks of the trade, and helping those that were either just starting out or thinking about extending their lines.

During the conference, the days were chucked full of educational classes, gourmet meals, meet and greet opportunities, and good times.  Every time a seminar let out, the vendors area would fill with attendees discussing everything they learned, the great experience they had, and the plethora of knowledge they attained.

All in all by the time that Friday morning hit (the last day), the conference was a buzz with all of the happiness of a well planned and informative week.  The Handcrafted Soapmakers and Cosmetics Guild had yet another successful conference year.  Everyone had a super fun time, learned a lot, and met such a variety of new and creative crafters.  All in all, attending the conference was so well worth it.

Next year the HSCG 2015 Conference will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from April 18th – 20th.    Our suggestion for anyone that is on the fence about going is that attending this conference is highly recommended from these two first year conference attendees.  Not only will your days be filled with knowledgeable seminars and your evenings with fun get togethers, but you will meet some of the nicest and most helpful fellow crafters in the industry.

On a final note:  A special thank you goes out to all of the hard work that the members and staff of the Handcrafted Soapmakers and Cosmetics Guild did.  For us, this year’s conference was a huge success.  We met new people, had tons of fun, many laughs, and truly enjoyed our time at the conference.
