Interview With Susan

From Frog Garden Crafts

What’s your name & Your Company Name (Why Did you choose that name?):

Susan Pagon,  Frog Garden Crafts, I love and collect Frog stuff so I wanted “Frog” in the name.  I went through a lot of name ideas and everyone liked the “Frog Garden” one.

How did you get into this business?:

I went to massage school, and took the Spa option with my courses and they had an “Aromatherapy” course as a part of it.  I loved it!!  We made lotions, salt scrubs, and all kinds of cool body stuff.  I learned the Therapeutic properties of Essential Oils and really enjoyed making my own blends.  I eventually branched out into soaps and Fragrance Oils, and eventually my friends and family told me I should open an Etsy store.  Now I’m having fun making Bath, Body, & Home products for sale.

What is your favorite part of this business?:

The feedback I get from people who really enjoy my products.  I also love the artistic side of designing different soaps, and I love all the different fragrances to work with out there.  Never ending possibilities.

What’s the most difficult part?

Being able to dedicate enough time to the craft with kids, school, and home life.

What’s your favorite product or aspect of Natures Garden?
The fragrances are so unique and they have an excellent variety to choose from.  I have several NG scents that I couldn’t live without!!  I also love the monthly scent sale.

What are your goals for the coming year for your business?

Of course everyone’s goal is to make a living doing what they love, so I guess my goal would be to reach that level in my business.

How to be more Frugal

This entry was posted in cheap candle supplies, how to be more frugal, Natures Garden Fragrance Oils, Natures Garden Sales, wholesale craft supplies, wholesale fragrance oils and tagged , , , , , , , , , , on by .

The Smell of Money…I Love Being Frugal

Growing up in a family of eight was definitely quite an experience.    This nature of necessity was instilled in all of us from a very early age.  We survived on my father’s paycheck, and my mother stayed home to raise all six of us.  We had all of the love and rearing we needed without being clouded by keeping up with the Joneses.  Did I love my situation as a child, no!  However, as an adult I cherish the frugal foundation that my parents provided us all because now, I can hang with the Joneses without their debt!  Frugal is fun! In my opinion, it is the best of both worlds.  You can still get what you want, just without the cost.  It is all about dedication, planning, coupon clipping, and patience.

I am not ashamed to shout it from the roof tops and I have even been caught singing and dancing in the check out aisle as my bill total is slashed due to my frugal shopping and couponing.  Recently, I even got a $1.79 bag of Natural cat treats for 11 cents- I am smiling right now thinking about it.

I truly felt like I had found my soul mate when I heard J’aime on Extreme Couponing exclaim, “My eleventh commandment is Thou shall not pay retail!”   Now, it is mine too.  It is a happy addiction, and I have self diagnosed my own condition as a Sav-a-holic.

Do I believe that you have to be engrained with this frugal notion from an early age, no.  Changing over to a frugal shopper is easy.  Here are some of my tips:

  1. Always purchase the Sunday paper- Yes, it may
cost around $2.00, but the coupon value alone in any given Sunday well
surpasses the cost out of pocket.  Plus,
you will have many of the local stores weekly ads.  ***Hint- Some stores even run specials on the
    couponed items for extra savings.
  2. Keep a running list of all of the items you need
to purchase, and check that against your coupons.  My advice is to break it down according to
stores.  Many grocery stores even have a
double coupon day (usually Mondays or Tuesdays) where they will double your
coupon up to 99 cents.  Hello, that can
save up to $1.98 per item!
  3. Never be afraid to cherry pick.  Stores are known for going extremely low on
certain items to lure shoppers in.  Take
the bait, but leave the store when you have the items on your list.
  4. Always check the clearance or reduced for quick
sale aisle.  I find many gems here,
    especially produce and meats.
  5. Internet is amazing.  Many times I will Google a store or specific
brand to see if there are any coupons I can use.  This is also an extra way to save when you
might be eating out at a restaurant.

So, how hard is it to save money?   Cutting just the tiniest amount or shaving a minute amount off your bills can quickly add up to a very nice chunk of change.  Frugal is NOT cheap.  Frugal is smart!  Allow for your purchases to be multi-functional.  If there is a great sale, don’t hesitate to get a few of the items for the holidays or birthdays.  Some deals are just too great
to pass up.

Wondering why I am blogging about this…

Well, we all know that Natures Garden always provides the best quality, wholesale-priced products on the market, especially fragrances.   A little birdie just told me that there are some fabulous products on CLEARANCE right now.  Grab them while you can.  The green bottles will definitely be festive in your holiday baskets this year, and the fragrances are too hot not to get your hands on.  These prices cannot be beat.  My advice:  Be Frugal and Love it!

The Importance of Social Media for Your Candle or Soap Business

This entry was posted in Natures Garden News, Natures Garden Sales, wholesale fragrance oils and tagged , , , , , , , , , , on by .

We asked you…

How important is social media for promoting your products?

“Extemely!!! But word of mouth from loyal customers cant be beat!!!!”
- Patti Ann

“It will be the biggest promoting concept there could be. I am not up and running yet but I am making contacts already.”
- Sheryl

“EXTREMELY! The best word of mouth possible because it spreads across the nation, world and not just locally.”
- Ashlee

“Extremely. Word of mouth and posted recommendations help a lot as well since they help populate your company in different ways and broadly.”
- Laura

“I agree that it is a part of our culture now and we truly do need it.”
- Erin

“It’s everything for me right now other than word of mouth which is always best.”
- Lynn

“In 2011…VEEERRRYYYY! It opens up your market in such a vast way, it’s almost unfathomable. When you promote your business via social networking you go from hometown to international.”
- Dava

Super duper important!!!! would have never made sales in Sweden, Canada and Australia without it, I am pretty sure!”
- Lather Soap Co

“In a time of instant gratification, connecting to clients and customers on Facebook/Twitter/Websites is vital. Nearly the first question I get with customers, if not about my products is “Do you have a website?” and then it becomes “Can I find you on Facebook?” soon after. They want to get sales/deals quick, which is why I don’t bother with an email list, they just check Facebook for sales. It also allows the customer to feel more connected to me with fast replies.”
