In addition, we added some wonderful oils. We used both apricot oil and sesame oil.  However, the best thing about making your own products is being able to customize and control the ingredients.  This will allow you to customize your conditioner to both your customer’s needs, as well as your own.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Jamaican Vanilla Cafe Fragrance Oil

For this conditioner recipe we used Jamaican Vanilla Cafe Fragrance Oil.  How does Jamaican Vanilla Cafe Fragrance Oil smell?  It smells AMAZING! This fragrance oil by Natures Garden is a harmony of rich roasted Jamaican coffee and sweet vanilla beans making this scent a delightful temptation.  An NG Original Fragrance!

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Preparations

First, prepare the area where you will be working. You will want to clean your work area. In addition, you want to both clean and sanitize your packaging supplies that you will be using. We also suggest wearing protective clothing such as gloves, an apron, and a hair net while preparing your hair conditioner.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Achieving the Proper Emulsion

At this time, we should talk about the importance of temperature when preparing this recipe. There are a few reasons why temperature is important.  I would like to point this out for those that have never made this type of recipe. It is important to know this before you begin so that you are properly prepared.  First, your temperature is important in order to create a proper emulsion. You want to make sure the temperature of both your coffee and your oils are around 140 degrees Fahrenheit when you blend them. If they are not at the correct temperature, your conditioner can completely separate.

In addition, it is important when adding your preservative. If you add your preservative when your conditioner is too hot, your preservative will burn off.  If your emulsion is too cool the preservative will separate out of conditioner. You want to add your preservative at a temperature below 140 degrees Fahrenheit, but you do not want it to get below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Coffee for Your Hair

In this hair conditioner recipe we used freshly brewed coffee. Coffee is often used in natural hair dyes.  It helps cover grays and add dimension to brown hair. In addition, you don’t have to use harsh chemicals to color your hair. We all know that hair dye, whether it be from the store, or the salon, isn’t really that great for our hair.  I mean sure we look and feel amazing, but think about the damage that it can do to our hair.  Is it really worth it?

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Preparing your CoffeeHair Conditioner for Brunettes: Preparing your Coffee

Next, we will prepare our coffee.  There really are two different ways you can do this. First, simply make a pot of coffee.  However, it is still important that the bacteria is destroyed.  So, make sure your coffee stays around 180 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.

Another option is to basically create a tea using coffee grounds.  This can be done by adding coffee grounds to a tea bag or two and adding it to your water. So, first, fill your tea bag.  Then, on your stove, heat your distilled water. You want to heat the water to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.  While you will only need 425 grams of water, make sure you add plenty of water. You will need to hold the temperature at this temperature for 20 minutes.  Some of your water will evaporate during this time. However, it is important that you heat for twenty minutes to destroy any bacteria.  Add you tea bag to your water. Allow the teabag to steep to create a very dark coffee water. This will create the coffee that will be used in your conditioner.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Choosing Your OilsHair Conditioner for Brunettes: Choosing Your Oils

Now, we will also be preparing the oils portion of this recipe. We here at Natures Garden used avocado oil for our conditioner.  As I said earlier, we created these conditioners for each hair color, customizing them to the hair care needs of one of the members of Natures Garden’s Creative Team.  In this case, Deborah chose apricot kernel oil and sesame seed oil.  While these are the oils that she chose, and by the way loved, you can customize your conditioner for your hair needs. You can use a total of 20 grams of oil in any combination that you feel will suit you. It will require testing of course to perfect the conditioner to your needs. You can read about the oils for various hair types here. Whether your hair is thick or fine, oily or dry, you will find the perfect oil for you!

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Choosing Your OilsHair Conditioner for Brunettes: Preparing Your Oils

Next, you will need to prepare the oils that you will be using in this recipe. We will us a double boiler to melt your oils on the stove top. So, you will need to get your large pot and add a few inches of water. Then, heat the water over medium heat.  You can allow the water to heat as you are preparing your oils.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Choosing Your Oils

Now, you will need your small pot. In this pot, weigh out and add 25 grams Vegetable Glycerin, 25 grams BTMS 25, 10 grams Sesame Seed Oil and 10 grams Apricot Kernel Oil. Then, place your small pot inside the larger pot of water on your stove.  Allow your oils to melt, make sure you are stirring occasionally as they are melting.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Mixing Your Oils and Herbal Tea Together

You want to move quickly through the next couple of steps as this is where the temperatures are very important in order to achieve a proper emulsion. So, get a deep mixing bowl.  Then, weigh out 425 grams of the coffee.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Mixing Your Oils and Herbal Tea Together

In addition, remove your melted oils from the heat.  Then, allow the temperature of both the oils and your coffee to drop to about 140 degrees Fahrenheit before moving on.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Mixing Your Oils and Herbal Tea Together

Next, at this time, go ahead and add your oils to your coffee. Finally, use your stick blender to emulsify your ingredients.  You should notice the color of your mixture will start to change.  You want to continue to mix, ensuring that your conditioner is completely blended. However, be careful not to allow the temperature of the mixture to drop below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Adding the Final Conditioner Ingredients

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Adding the Final Conditioner Ingredients

Finally, we will be adding just a few more ingredients to our mixture.  We need to add scent, a preservative, and vitamin E oil.  As we talked about earlier, all three of these ingredients need to be added at a temperature no cooler than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.  So, add 26 grams of your Jamaican Vanilla Cafe Fragrance Oil, 5 grams Optiphen Preservative, and 5 grams Vitamin E Oil. Then, once again, use your stick blender to incorporate all of the ingredients fully. Continue to stick blend the mixture until your are sure everything is completely blended.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Cooling the Conditioner

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Cooling the Conditioner

Once you have stick blended your conditioner fully and completely, the only thing left to do is wait.  You want you conditioner’s temperature to drop to room temperature.  You will notice that your conditioner is still very thin.  As the conditioner for brunettes cools, it will begin to get thicker.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Packaging Your Conditioner

Now, once your handmade conditioner has reached room temperature, you are ready to package your conditioner.  We chose the 8 ounce Boston round bottles to package our conditioner.  However, you can use whichever bottle you choose.  If you choose these same bottles, you will need two of them.  We do offer a variety of bottles and lids available to package your brunette conditioner. Next, get your bottles out at this time. Set them in front of you so that you are prepared to place your conditioner into the bottles.

First though you will need your gallon sized Ziploc bag.  Next, place your conditioner in the bag.  If you would like, you can place the gallon bag inside a small bowl.  Then, wrap the opening of the bag around the bowl.  This will keep the bag open while you add the conditioner to the bowl. This makes it a lot easier when putting my conditioner into the bag.  Once you have filled your bag, remove as much air as possible. Then, go ahead and close the bag.

Next, we will cut the corner of the bag.  You just need to cut the corner a bit to create a hole.  All we are doing is basically creating a decorating bag.  We will line the hole in the bag up with the opening of our bottle to fill it.  Go ahead and fill your bottle with the conditioner.

Hair Conditioner for Brunettes: Packaging Your ConditionerOnce your bottle is full, place a lid on top.  We used the white pump tops. Once you have placed a lid on top you are finished. Your conditioner for brunettes is now ready to use!  Simply wash your hair then use the conditioner as you would your normal hair conditioner.  We have found that the longer you leave it on before rinsing, the better results you will see. While the results aren’t permanent, they will stay for a bit and with regular your hair should stay a lovely brown color.

We hope that you have enjoyed creating this hair conditioner for brunettes. Almond Body Cream a Closer Look at the Ingredients Used

Almond Fragrance Oil is amazing for a lotion.  It is an almond scent that is similar to a popular brand.  Our almond scented oil is a true almond aroma and a Natures Garden best selling fragrance oil!

Shea butter not only naturally contains vitamins, it also acts a humectant. In addition, it is often used in the medical industry as a base for many ointments due to its antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti inflammatory properties.

Sweet Almond Oil is light, moisturizing, and easily absorbed into the skin. This means you will remain moisturized without the extra grease some creams and lotions can leave.

Macadamia Nut Oil is wonderfully nourishing for dry skin, leaving it soft and smooth.  In addition, it is high in omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. It also has high levels of antioxidants. Finally, just like sweet almond oil, it is easily absorbed by the skin, without the greasy feel.

Silky Emulsifying Wax is an emulsifier that helps your oils and butters mix with your water based ingredients.  In addition, this particular emulsifier will leave your skin feeling silkier compared to other types of emulsifiers.

Vitamin E Oil is used in this lotion recipe as an antioxidant. So, what exactly does this mean? Oils, like the carrier oils used in this almond body cream recipe, will go rancid and turn brown over time. Natures Garden carries pure Tocopherol T-50 vitamin E oil that is used to slow this process.

Stearic Acid is used in both creams and lotions. Stearic acid acts as a thickener in this product, and in other cosmetic recipes. Without stearic acid, this cream would not have the wonderful thickness that we love.

Optiphen preservative is used to prevent the growth of things like bacteria, yeast, and mold. Now, some believe that vitamin E oil can be used a preservative.  However, vitamin E is not a preservative, it cannot prevent bacteria growth.

Almond Body Cream RecipeAlmond Body Cream Recipe Preparations Preparations Prior to Starting

Before you start making your almond body cream recipe, make sure you have everything you need near your work station. This recipe will create five 8 ounce jars of lotion. So, you will want to get five of your 8 ounce jars out, along with five 70/400 straight smooth white lids. Additionally, you are going to want to make sure your work area, packaging materials, and equipment are cleaned and sanitized. At this time you also will want to get out any ingredients you will be using and place them in your work area. Taking these little steps ahead of time will ensure that making this recipe will go as smoothly as possible. Finally, we recommend wearing gloves, a hair net, and an apron when preparing this recipe. So, go ahead and put those on at this time.

Almond Body Cream Recipe Phase 1: The Water PhaseAlmond Body Cream Recipe Phase 1: The Water Phase

First, you will need to prepare the water needed for your homemade lotion. So, you are going to need to weigh out at least 850 grams of distilled water. While the recipe only calls for 706 grams of distilled water, you always want to account for the water that evaporates when you are heating it on your stove top. Remember, it is always better to have too much water than not enough. So, if you are over the 850 grams, that is okay, we will be weighing the portion of the water we will be using for the cream later. Now, go ahead and place the water into a pot and place the pot on the stove. Heat your water to at least 180 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need to keep the water at 180 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 20 minutes. The heat will destroy any bacteria that is in the water. After 20 minutes, you can now remove your water from the heat source. Finally, you will weigh out the water that you will be using for the almond cream. So, weigh out 706 grams of the heated distilled water from your initial 850 grams of distilled water.

Almond Body Cream Recipe Phase 2: The Oil PhaseAlmond Body Cream Recipe Phase 2: The Oil Phase

Next, weigh out all of the following ingredients: 80 grams of stearic acid, 48 grams of silky emulsifying wax, 80 grams of sweet almond oil, 36 grams of macadamia nut oil, and 20 grams of shea butter. You will be melting the oils, butters, and waxes using the double boiler method. You will need two pots, one larger than the other. Next, in the larger pot, add a few inches of tap water. Now, place the larger pot, containing the water, on the stove top over medium heat. Then, place all of your oils, butters, and waxes you weighed out into your smaller pot. Finally, put your smaller pot filled with all your weighed out ingredients into the larger pot containing the water. This will create a double boiler. Lastly, melt and heat your cream ingredients to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to stir occasionally as you are melting the ingredients.  Stirring will prevent scorching of the oils. In addition, it will ensure an even temperature throughout the waxes, butters, and oils.

Almond Body Cream Recipe Phase 3: The Mixing PhaseAlmond Body Cream Recipe Phase 3: The Mixing Phase

Once the temperatures of your water, along with your oil, wax and butter mixture are both at about 140 degrees Fahrenheit, place them both into a deep mixing bowl. For this bowl, the deeper the better so you don’t lose any of your mixture as you are blending. Now, use your stick blender to blend your water and other ingredients together. You will need to mix very well. You will find that while stick blending the ingredients, the mixture will turn white in color. This is a great sign. It means your almond body cream is starting to emulsify. Continue to stick blend until your lotion begins to emulsify.  Then, in the next step, we will be adding a few more ingredients.

Almond Body Cream Recipe Phase 4: The Cool Down PhaseAlmond Body Cream Recipe Phase 4: The Cool Down Phase

Last, are entering the final phase, phase 4. We refer to this as the cool down phase. During this phase, your handmade body cream will really begin to take shape. Allow your mixture from phase 3 to cool to 120-140 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the temperature of the cream has cooled to this temperature, you will be adding a few more ingredients. However, first, I would like to point out the importance of temperature.  When it comes to adding you preservative, it is extremely important to pay very close attention and add it at the correct time.  If you add a preservative at temperatures above 140 degrees Fahrenheit, the preservative will burn off.  This will leave your finished product unprotected.  A preservative prevents the growth of bacteria in the product.  Now, if you add the preservative below 120 degrees Fahrenheit, you may notice the preservative will separate from the lotion or cream. So, just remember to pay close attention to those temperatures and your cream will turn out perfectly!

Almond Body Cream Recipe Phase 4: The Cool Down Phase

Now, since your temperatures are correct, you are ready to add the last few ingredients. You are going to need to add 14 grams of your optiphen preservative,10 grams of vitamin E oil, and 12 grams of Natures Garden’s Almond Fragrance Oil. Once these are added, you will once again, use your stick blender to mix your ingredients together. You want to make sure you have all three ingredients mixed thoroughly and evenly into the body cream. As your almond body cream cools, it will continue to thicken to a cream consistency. You will want to stick blend the body cream periodically as the almond cream is cooling. Each time you stick blend the cream, it will get thicker. Once your almond cream reaches room temperature, it will be a thick luscious body cream.

Almond Body Cream Recipe Packaging Your ProductAlmond Body Cream Recipe Packaging Your Product

Finally, now that your almond body cream has cooled and reached room temperature, fill each of your five 8 ounce jars and place the smooth straight lid on top of each of the jars. There are a few different ways you can fill the jars. When we created our cream, we used a bowl with a spout. So, we just simply slowly poured our cream right into the jars. Another option is using a spoon to scoop the almond body cream into each jar. Alternatively, you can also use a Ziploc bag, cutting the corner to create a decorating bag, and fill the jar that way. This homemade cream recipe will make approximately five of the 8 oz jars.

Almond Body Cream Recipe Using the LotionAlmond Body Cream Recipe Using Your Handmade Cream

When creating this body cream, we used our Almond Fragrance Oil but you can always use another body safe fragrance oil if you would like. In addition, we chose to keep the body cream its natural color. However, you can add color if you wish to. If you do decide to color this recipe, you will want to use one of our Da Bomb Soap Dyes. You will just need to add a couple drops at a time until you get the color you are looking for! Alternatively, you can infuse herbs to naturally color your homemade cream lotion. There are just so many options, you can truly make this craft unique to you!  The sky is the limit!

Wine Lotion RecipeWine Lotion Recipe

Our next recipe is a wine lotion recipe.  Like many of our customers, I too, love the wonderful aroma of red wine.  This homemade lotion recipe is scented with my favorite of Natures Garden’s wine scents, Shiraz Fragrance Oil.  This lotion contains many skin loving oils and butters like grape seed and jojoba.  So grab a glass of wine and get ready to prepare a couple bottles of wine scented lotion.

Wine Lotion Recipe Other Equipment and Ingredients You Will Need

Scale
Spatula
Distilled Water
Pots (For Double Boiler)
Stove
Ziplock Bag
Scissors

Wine Lotion Recipe Prepare Your Work Area

Before we begin, clean and sanitize your work area and utensils.  You will also need to do the same with the packaging supplies.  We will be using two clear 8 ounce Boston round bottle and two 24/410 white lotion pumps when we create this lotion recipe.

Wine Lotion Recipe Weigh Out Your Ingredients

Wine Lotion Recipe Weigh Out Your IngredientsFirst, in a pot, weigh out 425 grams of water.  You will need to heat the water to 180 degrees.  Hold it at this temperature for 20 minutes.  This will destroy any bacteria.

In a second pot, weigh out 48 grams grape seed oil, 24 grams silky emulsifying wax, 10 grams cocoa butter, 10 grams jojoba oil, and 6 grams vitamin e oil.  Then, melt these ingredients using a double boiler.  Make sure you stir the oil occasionally as they are melting.  While you are waiting, move to the next step.  We will come back to both of these pots when they are ready.

Wine Lotion Recipe Preparing the Other Ingredients

Wine Lotion Recipe Preparing the Other IngredientsIt is best to weigh the other ingredients out ahead of time.  This way you are prepared ahead of time.  This will allow you to move quickly as you are making the lotion.  Temperatures are extremely important to achieve a proper emulsion when creating lotion.  So, using a scale, weigh out the remaining ingredients.  You will need four small bowls as each of the following will go in a separate bowl.  First, weigh 8 grams of sodium lactate.  Then, in the second bowl, add 3 grams of resveratrol along with 12 vegetable glycerin.  Mix these two together well.  In the third bowl, prepare your fragrance oil.  Weigh out 12 grams of Shiraz Fragrance Oil.  In the last bowl, weigh out 10 grams of your optiphen preservative.  Set these aside, we will come back to them.

Wine Lotion Recipe Putting it all Together

Next, we will be combining our water with our oils.  Before we begin we want to be sure to point out a couple of things in regards to your temperatures.  At this point, your temperatures are very important.  You want both the oils and water to be around 140 degrees Fahrenheit.  If your ingredients are not at the proper temperature you may experience separation.  In addition, the temperature is important when adding your preservative.  You want to add your preservative around 120 degrees if you add your preservative at too cool of a temperature your mixture will separate from the finished lotion.  If your temperature is too hot it will burn the preservative off.
Wine Lotion Recipe Putting it all TogetherNow, we will begin combining our oils and water.  Once both the oils and water have come to the proper temperature, we will need to move quickly.  So, once your water has been heated, remove it from the heat.  You want to let both your oils and water temperatures to drop to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.  Then, add 8 grams of sodium lactate to your water.  Make sure you stir in the sodium lactate completely.  Now, add your oils to your water.  Then, use your stick blender to mix them.  Mix until you notice the mixture turn white in color as it emulsifies.  Again, remember to pay close attention to your temperatures.  You do not want the temperature to drop below 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wine Lotion Recipe Adding the Other Ingredients

Wine Lotion Recipe Adding the Other IngredientsNext, let’s add our preservative.  Remember, this needs to be added below 140 degrees Fahrenheit, but at a temperature no cooler than 120 degrees.  When the mixture drops to around 120 degrees add the 10 grams of optiphen preservative.  Additionally, this is when the colorant should be added.  So, at this time add 7 drops of red soap colorant and 3 drops blue fd&c dye.  You will also add the 12 grams Shiraz Fragrance Oil you weighed out earlier.  Mix your ingredients together using your stick blender.  Now you will need the resveratrol extract powder mixture you prepared.  Earlier, we dispersed the resveratrol powder extract in vegetable glycerin so that it can be added to your lotion without clumping.  Finally, at this time, add the resveratrol mixture you prepared earlier.  Once again use your stick blender to evenly and fully mix all of the potion’s ingredients.  Once everything is mixed, allow the lotion to set up.  You will notice the lotion thicken more as it cools.  Once it has set up, you are ready to package it.

Wine Lotion Recipe Packaging the Lotion

Wine Lotion Recipe Packaging the LotionLastly, we will be placing our lotion into the 8 ounce lotion bottles.  I have found it easiest to do this using a zip lock bag.  So, place the lotion in a ziplock bag.  Then, cut the corner.  We will be using the bag sort of like you would a decorating bag.  Once you have cut the corner, you can place the opening over the opening of the bottle.  Squeeze the bag gently to add the lotion to the first bottle.  Then, fill the second bottle.  Finally, place a white lotion pump on each bottle.  Your wine scented lotion is now complete!
