fennelUses of Fennel

Hi everyone! Let’s talk about one of my favorite snacks for a second! Fennel! And yes, I mean that plant you see in the grocery stores that kind of looks like an onion, but you’re never really sure what it is. Well, that’s fennel! It’s extremely delicious, and tastes just candy! The taste of licorice to be specific. But did you know that uses of fennel are endless? While it’s most commonly known for its yummy flavor and many uses in food, fennel can also be used in bath and body products, for skin and hair care benefits, in soap and candle making, and even for medicinal purposes!

Fennel does contain many vitamins and minerals that are essential to the body. Some of these include vitamins A, C, and E, as well as magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, and potassium. When used for its medicinal purposes, fennel can treat many conditions such as bronchitis, coughing, diarrhea, cholera, loss of appetite, bloating, flatulence, backaches, and even bed wetting. Specifically for women, fennel works to treat the pain of and regulate menstrual cycles, it increase breast milk production in nursing mothers, and also helps to reduce all the effects of PMS. Ancient Romans actually thought of fennel as the “herb of sight.” Fennel can be used to treat glaucoma and reduce eye disorders like macular degeneration. Fennel also works to maintain heart rate and blood pressure, helps to increase oxygen flow to the brain, and can even protect from and treat cancer!

Some common bath and body products that can include fennel are facial masks, body powders, lotions, perfumes, scrubs, and even eye pillows. When used for soap making, fennel works as a natural decorative element and also exfoliates the skin. There are many other skin care benefits to fennel as well. It reduces mild skin irritations, protects from and treats inflammation, it cleanses, exfoliates, and tones the skin, fights the signs of aging, and even prevents acne and cell damage. Your hair can greatly benefit from fennel as well. Fennel treats any bumps of the scalp as well as any itchiness. It also treats dandruff and helps to prevent the hairs from breaking. You can even fill your home with the scent of delicious licorice by using fennel seeds in potpourri. Its aroma is also wonderful for eye pillow recipes.

Did you know that ancient Greeks believed that a stalk of fennel carried a coal that would bring the knowledge of the gods down to man? I’m sure you’re wondering how to get your hands on this wonderful product as soon as possible! But please don’t take this blog as medical advice, it’s meant for educational purposes only! And here at Nature’s Garden, we specifically sell fennel for external use only! So please don’t eat it!
