bath bomb shapesBath Bombs are typically known for traditionally being in a ball like shape.  But, the bath bomb shape does not have an effect on what bath bombs are known for.

The combination of baking soda and citric acid when in a dry environment are just that; baking soda and citric acid.  However, when these two elements are put together, and then placed into water a reaction occurs.  As this bicarbonate base and weak acid are dissolved in the water, they start to fizz and fizz and fizz.  This fizzing action is actually carbon dioxide.  As the bath bomb dissolves and the carbon dioxide releases into the water, any bather feels a light tickling sensation on their skin.  Hence the well known attribute that bath bombs are known for.

When it comes to the bath bomb shapes, the world can be your oyster.  There are already many varying elements that you can change to make your bath bombs unique.  Whether you choose to do this through scent, color, skin loving oil, or herb addition; the possibilities are endless.

Bath bomb shapes are just as limitless as the other unique qualities you can give your bath bombs.  In fact, you can even make your bath bomb mixture in loose scoop form allowing the overall design of your bath bomb package to really sell the concept.  As for shaped bath bombs, there are tons of molds you can use.

The creative team at Natures Garden has created various bath bomb recipes that produce bath bomb shapes other than balls.  Through the use of  silicone molds, ice cream scoopers, hard plastics (such as fillable ornaments), wax paper, and even your hands, these bath bomb recipes create truly unique bath bombs.

If you are interested in making some bath bomb shapes that will turn some heads here are a few recipes you can try.  These recipes as well as others can all be found on Natures Gardens website under the free recipes and classes link; which you can view by clicking on this link.  All of the supplies needed to make these bath bombs can also be purchased at Natures Garden.

Bath Fizzy Recipe

unique bath fizzy recipeRaspberry Zinger Bath Fizzies Recipe

This blog post is going to show you the step by step instruction to make your very own Raspberry Zinger Bath Fizzes.

Unlike the typical bath fizzy, this recipe does not require a mold.  Instead, you will be using a piece of wax paper to achieve the shape.

Another unique aspect to this recipe is the addition of shredded goats milk melt and pour soap.  In order for your raspberry zinger bath fizzy to truly have the appeal of the real tasty treat, the shredded soap is used to resemble coconut shavings.

Before we get started, there is another key point that should be noted.  For this specific recipe, timing is everything.  Through the creative teams various testing of this recipe, we were able to pinpoint an exact time line.  We found that if the roll does not sit wrapped long enough, the layers do not adhere to themselves.  After unwrapping the roll, you must allow it to be exposed to the air to harden slightly before slicing.  By slicing the roll too early, you will have bath fizzy slices that are prone to deep cracks and crumbly edges.  But, don’t worry, the exact timeline will be explained in the steps.

So, now that you have a little background on this project; let’s get started!

All of the ingredients listed below can be found at Natures Garden:
Raspberry Zinger Fragrance Oil
GOAT’S MILK Melt and Pour SOAP
Baking Soda
Citric Acid
Arrowroot Powder
Dead Sea Salt
COCONUT Oil-76
FUN Soap Colorant- Tomato Red 1 oz.
FUN Soap Colorant- Deep Purple 1 oz.
FUN Soap Colorant- Yellow Oxide 1 oz.

You will also need the following supplies:
Scale
Cheese Grater
Wax Paper
Distilled Water
Mixing Bowls (3)
Spatula
Disposable Plate

So now that you have everything that you need, here are the steps:

finely grate the white mp soap

Step 1:  Place your work gloves on.  Then, weigh out 55 grams of Goats Milk Melt and Pour Soap.  Take the soap chunks and finely grate them using a cheese grater.  Once all of the soap has been grated, place it on a disposable plate and set aside.

soft pliable mixture

Step 2:  Next, in one of your mixing bowls, weigh out and place the 300 grams of baking soda, 70 grams of arrowroot powder, and 32 grams of dead sea salt.  It this mixture, weigh out and add the 42 grams of coconut oil 76.  You want the coconut oil 76 to be at room temperature form.  Now, using your hands start to combine the mixture.  As you work the coconut oil among the dry ingredients, make sure to break up any chunks.  Keep combining until the mixture is very similar to a cookie dough or play dough, soft yet stays together.  Set aside.

drizzling

Step 3:  In one of your other mixing bowls, weigh out and place the 23 grams of distilled water and 2 grams of Raspberry Zinger fragrance oil.  Then, using a spatula, drizzle these wet ingredients over your other mixture.

bath fizzy mixture

Step 4:  With your hands, begin folding the mixture together. Once incorporated, weigh out and add the 150 grams of citric acid.  As you are mixing this in, break up any clumps.  Once again work the mixture until you have a cookie dough or play dough consistency.

preparing your layers

Step 5:  Breaking the Mixture Up:  In another mixing bowl, weigh out and place 95 grams of the bath fizzy mix.  To the emptied wet ingredients bowl, weigh out and add 200 grams of the bath fizzy mixture.  To this bowl, add 3 drops of Fun Soap Colorant Yellow Oxide.  Mix well to incorporate.  Once evenly colored, form the fizzy mixture into a ball.  In the remaining bowl, weigh out and place 1 gram of Fun Soap Colorant Tomato Red and 3 drops Fun Soap Colorant Deep Purple.  Once again using your hands incorporate.  When uniformly colored, form another ball with the mixture.

layering your zinger bath fizzy

Step 6:  Next, lay out a piece of wax paper.  Starting with the pink ball, flatten the mixture out into a rectangular shape.  Then, repeat the same action with the yellow ball.  Once the yellow fizzy mixture is flattened, carefully place the yellow layer on top of the pink one.  Finally, take the white fizzy mixture and sprinkle it through the center of the yellow layer.

wrapping your bath fizzy

Step 7:  For this step, you will be using the wax paper to roll the bath fizzy together.  As you are rolling the mixture, remember to keep removing the wax paper away from the mixture so it does not get wrapped into your bath fizzy.  Once you have the pink layer completely around the outside of the mixture, continue rolling to seal the fizzy mixture within the wax paper.  Allow this to set for 10 minutes.

placing the grated soap

Step 8:  After the bath fizzy has set for 10 minutes, carefully open the wax paper.  Next, with part of the wax paper laying out flat, sprinkle the grated soap onto the wax paper.  Once again in the same manner, roll the bath mixture making sure to move the wax paper as the mixture rolls.  This will allow the bath fizzy to adhere to the soap.  Continue rolling until the mixture is completely sealed in the wax paper again.  Allow to set for another 30 minutes.

expose your bath fizzy to air
Step 9:
After 30 minutes, completely remove the bath fizzy from the wax paper.  Allow the fizzy to be exposed to the air for at least 1 hour now.

slicing your fizzy

Step 10:  Finally, use a knife to cut the slices.  Further allow the fizzies to harden and dry overnight.

That is it, your Raspberry Zinger Bath Fizzies are now ready to use.

Bath Bomb Tips

bath bomb tipsBath Bomb Tips

Recently, the creative team at Natures Garden has been working on various bath bomb/ bath fizzy recipes.  As with anything homemade it seems like there are endless possibilities.  Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Natures Garden carries over 800 fragrances, so it is totally viable to really achieve some super unique bath bomb concepts.

Needless to say, in our quest to discover new and interesting concepts within the realm of bath bombs; we stumbled upon amazing tips and interesting concepts.

For anyone that has never made a bath bomb, that oh so enjoyable fizz that the bath bomb gives off when added to water is produced by a reaction between the baking soda and the citric acid.  Once these two ingredients are met with water, fizzing ensues.

A bath bomb recipe broken down into percentages is largely dry ingredients, usually around 90-98%.  The other remaining 2-10% is liquids, whether that be distilled water, witch hazel,  skin loving oils or butters, colorants, fragrance; or a combination of them.  Depending on the amount of fizz that you are looking to attain in your bath bomb, the ratio of baking soda to citric acid is about 2 to 1.  That means that for every 454 grams of baking soda, you will add 227 grams of citric acid.

Generally, for our bath bomb recipes, we try to keep our dry ingredients around 95-98% of the total recipe.  This leaves a 2-5% liquid content.  We have found that this ratio does produce a drier bath bomb mixture to work with; but it also produces a bath bomb that is packed full of fizz.  When going this route, the key to remember is to spritz witch hazel into the ingredients only as needed to get the mixture to be a crumbly dough consistency.

When using a fillable ornament as a mold, spritzing both ends of the bath bomb with witch hazel before connecting allows just the right amount of reaction to occur in order to bind the two halves together.  There are also many bath bomb crafters that unmold their bath bombs and then spritz with witch hazel.  With this method, as the bath bomb dries, and the water portion of the witch hazel evaporates, a harder bath bomb is created.  This little tip comes in handy for both display ideas and shipping reasons.

As for when a bath bomb recipe calls for the addition of water, there is also a little trick of the trade that can be used.  Completing all of the bath bomb steps but withholding the addition of citric acid until the very end helps to reduce the amount of premature fizzing in the bowl.  The end result is still the same; a hard bath bomb.  However, since the citric acid is added after the liquids have already been introduced and incorporated into the mixture, only a very small amount of fizzy action occurs in the bowl; increasing that wonderful fizz for your bathtub.

For anyone that is interested in making bath bombs, or currently makes them; these little tricks do work.

Easter Egg Fizzies

This entry was posted in bath and body, bath and body fragrances, bath bombs, bath fizzes, bath fizzies, bath products, body safe fragrance oils, citric acid, colorants, creative, Fragrance Oils, Natures Garden and tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on by .

steps for making easter egg bath fizzesEaster is quickly approaching, and although typically Easter gifts exchanged between loved ones are filled with chocolates and sweets; sometimes you just want to think outside of the candy wrapper.  This is where the entertaining bath bomb can come into play!

Bath fizzies can be enjoyed by everyone young and old!  But, there is just something about them that amazes children.  This is most likely the fun fizzing action that occurs when the bath bombs hit the water.

One of the most unique aspects of bath bombs is that they can be scented, colored, and molded into any shape.  And, one of the best things about bath bombs is that they are a great project to make with your kids for a fun family activity.

If you are looking for a great spin on Easter basket gifts, using this recipe you can now make your very own Easter Egg fizzies.

Besides the ingredients that are needed to make the Easter egg fizzies (which can all be purchased at Natures Garden), you will also need (10) regular sized fillable Easter eggs, baking soda, and some witch hazel in a spray bottle.  If you do not have any leftover plastic eggs from last year, these eggs can be purchased almost anywhere including Walmart or even your local Dollar Store.  The witch hazel that is called for in this recipe is used to help get the crumbly consistency of the mixture as well as to adhere both sides of the Easter eggs together in the final steps.

Here is the rest of the ingredients and supplies that you will need to make this recipe:
Citric Acid
Bentonite Clay Powder
Arrowroot Powder
Castor Oil
Olive Oil- Pomace
For this project, any body safe fragrance oil will work.  We suggest: Jelly Bean Fragrance Oil to match the theme of Easter.
For the color of the Easter egg fizzes, any of the FUN Soap colorants will work.  For this project, we selected the colorants: Neon Blue, Neon Red, Neon Yellow, and Ultramarine Violet to achieve somewhat of a pastel color in the eggs.
Disposable Pipettes
Mixing Bowls (5)
Large Mixing Bowl
Spoon

Once you are ready to get started, here are the steps (pictures included):

Step 1: In your large mixing bowl, place 184 grams of citric acid, 265 grams of baking soda, 11 grams of bentonite clay, and 90 grams of arrowroot powder.  Thoroughly mix these ingredients.  If you have any clumps, break them up using your fingers and thumb.  Set this aside for now.

Step 2: Now, in a separate bowl, weigh out 26 grams of castor oil and 21 grams of olive oil.  Then, carefully pour this over your dry ingredients, mixing well with your hands.

Step 3: Next, place 30 drops of Jelly Beans scent into the mixture using a pipette.  Stir this again using your hands.

Step 11:  Each colored bowl of the mixture will fill (2.5) whole eggs.  To fill the eggs, press the mixture down firmly into each egg half.  Once both of the halves are completely filled, spritz each one with witch hazel.  Then,  close the egg.  Repeat this step until all eggs are filled and sealed together.

Step 12: Once all eggs are sealed, allow them to harden overnight.

Step 13: When the eggs are ready, using a spoon gently tap several times on the outside of the oblong egg half.  This will help release the bath fizzy from the mold.

Step 14:  Carefully slide the plastic egg (oblong side) off first.  Then, slide the bottom portion of the plastic egg off.  If the bath fizzy egg is not  stuck together, spritz each half with the witch hazel then place the two halves together.  Gently hold these two halves in place, and using your thumb, reinforce the seam of the egg halves until they do stick together.  Then set aside and allow to harden for about 15-20 minutes.

make your own blueberry bath bombAre you looking for a Natural Bath Bomb?

Using a bath bomb in your tub is refreshing and rejuvenating for your skin.  And now, you can make your very own homemade bath bombs using natural fruit powder.  Plus, they are quick and easy to make!

With the exception of baking soda and witch hazel, all the ingredients you need to make these blueberry natural bath bombs can be found at Natures Garden.  To view the complete recipe for these bath bombs, please click on this link.

The two crucial components for this recipe are citric acid and baking soda.  These two ingredients when mixed with water have a chemical reaction that results in the fizzing of the water. This fizzy nature is characteristic of bath bombs.  But, did you know citric acid also acts as a water softener?

Besides the feel good aspect that bath bombs provide, these blueberry bath fizzes are also skin loving.  Using the superfood Blueberry, you can incorporate tons of antioxidants, amino acids, and the beneficial nutrients of vitamins and minerals all with the simple use of blueberry fruit powder.  This herb will help to rejuvenate the skin and keep it young and healthy.  The sweet almond oil is a non-greasy oil that moisturizes and is easily absorbed into the skin.  To really hammer home the scent of blueberry, Blueberry Fragrance Oil is used to scent the fizzes.  To really capture the blue color of the blueberry fruit powder, you can add additional colorant with the FUN Soap Colorant- Ultramarine Blue.

To make your very own blueberry bath bombs, here are the steps:

Step 1:  Pour some witch hazel into a spray bottle.  Set aside.

Step 2:  Place 2 mixing bowls in your work area.  To each bowl, place 256 grams of citric acid.  Then, add 560 grams of baking soda to each bowl.  If you notice any clumps, break them up in your hands now.  Mix well.  Finally, to one of the bowls, add 5 grams of blueberry fruit powder and stir, leave the second bowl alone.

Step 6:  Lightly spritz the mixture with witch hazel and mix.  Continue spritzing until the mixture feels like crumbly dough in your hands. Be very careful not to spray too much witch hazel into your mixture or it will activate the citric acid.

Step 7:
Press the bluish mixture into half of your fillable ornament and press down firmly.  Set aside.
