Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Total Recipe Amounts and Weights

First, let’s talk about the amounts of each item we will be using.  We should note that while we give you both the weight and volume measurements, we highly recommend using a scale.  By using a scale the measurements will be more precise amounts.

410 grams (2 cups) Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate
460 grams (2 cups) Sodium Bicarbonate- Baking Soda
224 grams (2/3 cup) Cream of Tartar
72 grams (2/3 cup) Corn Starch
200 grams (2/3 cup) Vegetable Glycerin
24 grams (2 TBSP) Meadowfoam Seed Oil
14 grams Basil Sage Mint Fragrance Oil
4 grams FUN Soap Colorant Neon Green
10 grams FUN Soap Colorant Kelly Green
10 drops FUN Soap Colorant Lime Green

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prior to Starting

Prior to starting, you want to prepare your work area and supplies.  So, clean your work area.  Also, get out all of your supplies and ingredients listed above.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe:  Prepare Your Dry Ingredients

First, we will weigh out our dry ingredients. You will need a deep mixing bowl.  Then, to this bowl, add 460 grams of baking soda, 410 grams sodium cocoyl isethionate, 72 grams of corn starch, and 224 grams cream of tartar.  Now, with gloved hands, mix the dry ingredients together completely.  While you are mixing, break up any clumps you find in the mixture.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare Your Wet IngredientsBasil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare Your Wet Ingredients

Next, in a separate bowl, weigh out your wet ingredients.  In your clean mixing bowl weigh out 200 grams of vegetable glycerin.  Then, add 24 grams of your meadowfoam seed oil and 14 grams of Natures Garden’s Basil Sage Mint Fragrance Oil.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Mix Everything TogetherBasil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Mix Everything Together

At this stage, we will mix our dry ingredients and wet ingredients together.  It is easiest to add your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.  So, go ahead and add your wet ingredients to your dry ingredients.  Then, once again, use your hands to mix the ingredients together.  Continue to mix until everything is thoroughly combined.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Separate Your Bubble Bar DoughBasil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Separate Your Bubble Bar Dough

Now, we will separate your dough.  For this bubble bar recipe, we will create three colors.  We will have a total of three layers, each a different color.  So, you will need two additional bowls.  In each of the two bowls, add 468 grams of the bubble bar dough.  Leave the remaining dough in the original bowl.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare your Mint Green LayerBasil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare your Mint Green Layer

First, you will prepare you mint green layer.  This layer will also include ground basil.  So, to your first bowl, add 2 grams of your ground basil and 4 grams of your neon green FUN Soap Colorant from Natures Garden.  Then, with clean gloves, mix the ingredients until your colorant and basil are fully mixed.

Once you have mixed all of the ingredients together, you want to roll the dough into a ball.  You can then put it back in your mixing bowl and set the bowl aside.  Later, you will be rolling the ball out flat, just like you would cookie dough.  So, you want to make sure it is the proper consistency.  If your dough is too crumbly, you can a little more vegetable glycerin.  However, when doing this be careful not to add too much.  If you add too much, your dough will not be the proper consistency and may not setup properly.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare Your Sage Green LayerBasil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare Your Sage Green Layer

Next, you will prepare your sage green layer.  You will need your second mixing bowl.  To your second bowl, add 10 grams of the Kelly green FUN Soap colorant and 10 drops of the lime green FUN Soap Colorant from Natures Garden.  In addition, you will need to add 2 grams of peppermint powder.  Once you have added all of these ingredients, you are ready to mix.  Again, with clean gloves on your hands, mix until everything is fully incorporated.

Again, roll this color into a ball.  We will also be rolling this dough out.  So, if needed you can add a tiny bit more vegetable glycerin.  Finally, place your ball of dough into the second bowl.  Set this bowl aside as well.  We will come back to this bubble bar dough in a later step.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare Your White Layer

Next, you will need to prepare your white layer.  This white layer will be the third and final layer in our bubble bar recipe.  So, you will need the third remaining bowl of soap dough.  This bowl of dough will remain uncolored.  So, you simply need to roll it into a ball.  Finally, set this dough aside, we will come back to it.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Prepare to Roll Out Your Bubble Bar Dough

Now, before you move on, you will need to prepare to roll your bubble bar dough.  So, first, wipe down your work area.  If you are anything like me, you have little pieces of each color of your bubble bar dough in your work area.  Go ahead and clean this up at this time.  Then, lay down a piece of parchment paper that is about 12-15 inches in length.  That will give you a plenty of room to work.  Alternatively, you can use a silicone baking mat.  I chose to use a baking mat, and I placed it on a 9″ x 13″ pan so that I can easily move it if I need too.

Finally, sprinkle a little bit of baking soda on your parchment paper or mat.  This will prevent your dough from sticking to the parchment paper, and make it much easier to roll the dough.  Also, do the same with your roll pin.  I actually used my 16 ounce bottle of vegetable glycerin from Natures Garden to roll my dough out.  So, if you don’t have a rolling pin, this is totally an option.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Roll Out Your Bubble Bar Dough

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: The Mint Green Layer

Next, it is time to roll out your bubble bar dough.  We will begin with the mint green dough.  So, place the ball of mint green dough in the middle of your parchment paper or baking mat.  Then, use your hands to flatten it out a bit.

Then, use your rolling pin to roll out the dough just like you would with cookie dough.  You want to the dough to be about 1/4 inch thick and in a rectangular shape.  While the shape doesn’t have to be perfect, you want it to be as close to a rectangle as you can get it.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: The Sage Green Layer

Now, let’s roll out the sage green layer.  This layer will be rolled out right on top of the previous layer.  So, place the sage colored dough on top of the mint green layer you rolled out.  You want to make sure you place it right in the center of the previous layer.  Gently, flatten the dough.

Then, carefully, roll the sage green dough out.  You want to continue to roll until the edges of the sage colored bubble bar dough matches the edges of the mint green dough.  Once again, make sure the dough maintains that rectangular shape.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: The White Layer

Finally, we will roll out the last white layer of bubble bar dough.  So, place the white layer right on top of the sage green layer.  Again, make sure you place it in the center of the rolled out bubble bar dough.  Then, flatten the white dough slightly and begin rolling it out.  Once the white dough matches the size of the green dough, you are finished rolling out your dough.  Just make sure you continue to maintain that rectangular shape.  If needed, gently reshape it a bit.  Like I said before, it doesn’t have to be perfect, just as close as you can get it.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Roll the Bubble Bar Dough Into a Loaf

Finally, you will roll your bubble bar dough into a loaf.  So, position your dough in front of you vertically.  Then, lift up gently on the edge of your mat or parchment paper that is closest to your body.  Slowly and carefully roll the bubble bar dough into a loaf.  You will basically be rolling the dough in the same manner that you would a pumpkin roll.

Continue to roll the dough until it is completely rolled.  You may find little pieces of your dough stuck to your mat.  This happens, but I found when I first began making bubble bars this happened quite often and I often had large amounts left behind when I rolled my loaf.  However, the more I practiced creating them, the easier it became.  So, keep practicing!  After you have completely rolled your dough, if you find you have holes that need filled, you can use some of the dough that was left behind on the mat to patch the holes.  Just be sure that you smooth them out.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Finishing Your Bubble Bars

Well, we are almost done.  Now, you simply slice your bubble bars, in the same manner, you would a loaf of bread.  You want to cut it in about 1-2 inch slices. Once you have sliced them, they simply need to dry out.  And place them a couple inches apart so they can dry thoroughly.  Ours dried in about 48-72 hours.  However, I should add that climate definitely comes into play here.  It may take longer for you, however, you will know they are dry when they are hard to the touch.

Basil Sage Mint Bubble Bars Recipe: Using Your Bubble Bars

Finally, you can start using your bubble bars!  A bubble bar simply needs to be crumbled under your warm running bath water.  So, just crumble one slice under your bath water.  It will fill your tub with bubbles!  So sit back, relax, and unwind!

For those that aren’t fond of the sticky texture of Castor Oil will find that this liquid wax is a perfect replacement. This ingredient is a heavier oil that is very conditioning without being too sticky or thick.  Also, you can combine this liquid wax with other oils or use it on its own to condition wet hair.

Lanolin Oil Benefits for Reducing WrinklesLanolin Oil Benefits for Reducing Signs of Aging

This lovely cosmetic ingredient is perfect for reducing signs of aging, like wrinkles. So, caring for your skin with amazing and conditioning cosmetic ingredients is a perfect way to reduce premature wrinkles naturally. Plus, it will leave your skin healthy and beautiful. Luckily, Lanolin Oil is one of the best cosmetic ingredients for caring for and protecting your skin. So, you can incorporate this amazingly moisturizing ingredient in your recipes for homemade face cream for wrinkles.

Lanolin Oil Benefits for Splitting NailsLanolin Oil Benefits for Splitting Nails

Growing out your natural nails can be difficult. So, it is especially frustrating when your nails begin to split and peel. This splitting may be caused by harsh nail beauty products or even using too much nail polish remover, as these sorts of things can dry out your nails. This means that we are diminishing the oils that help your nails stay strong and healthy. Luckily, we can use lanolin oil to nourish and rejuvenate our nails to make them stronger and less likely to split!

Lanolin Oil Benefits for Anti Chlorine Cream for SwimmingLanolin Oil Benefits for Anti Chlorine Cream for Swimming

This lovely cosmetic oil is not just great for locking moisture in for your hair and skin. It can help you keep it out, too. Since Lanolin Oil is a wonderful barrier against water, it is perfect for helping keep the pool water from your skin and hair. So, you can ensure that the good moisture stays in and the chemicals, like chlorine, are out. Not only will this prevent your skin from drying out, but it is perfect for preventing sensitive skin from getting rashes. This would make Lanolin Oil a perfect ingredient for creating an anti chlorine cream.

Lanolin Oil Benefits: Where the Oil Comes

This lovely cosmetic ingredient is naturally made by sheep. The Lanolin Oil is used by the sheep to protect their wool. So, this cosmetic ingredient is collected at the same time as the sheep’s wool, which is used for items like clothing. Once the wool and lanolin are separated, the Lanolin Oil is perfect for using in bath and body products. This natural product will condition and protect the skin and hair of humans just as it protected the sheep’s wool. So, this cosmetic ingredient is perfect for creating natural products that are very effective at moisturizing. Beard Oil RecipeBeard Oil Recipe

Next, we will take you through Natures Garden’s beard oil recipe.  This free beard oil tutorial will show you how to create beard oil at home.  This blend of oils will help you, or your man perfectly care for a beard as well as the skin.  Below, we will explain just how each ingredient will help.  Then, we will walk you through this very simple beard oil recipe.  So, even for the men who think they just aren’t the crafty type and won’t be able to make this, rest assured if you can make a cup of coffee, you can make beard oil.

Beard Oil Recipe: Ingredients Found at Natures Garden

Jojoba Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Olive Oil Pomace
Castor Oil
Sesame Oil
Rice Bran Oil
Pure Vitamin E Oil (Tocopherol T-50)
8 oz. Clear Boston Round Bottles
24/410 Black Smooth Disc Lids
Extremely Sexy for Men Fragrance Oil

Beard Oil Recipe: A Closer Look at the Ingredients

Before we begin creating our beard balm let’s take a closer look at some of the ingredients we will be using.  Each of the ingredients used in this recipe were added specifically for a man’s beard.  Below, we will talk about each of these ingredients and why they were chosen to be included in our handcrafted beard oil recipe.

Beard Oil Recipe: Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil has similar qualities to the natural oils of the face.  That makes jojoba oil a wonderful moisturizer.  Next, we will talk about the oil itself.  Jojoba Oil is actually a liquid wax.  It contributes a nice stable lather when used in soap, has remarkable absorption and moisturizing qualities, and unlike some of the other luxury moisturizing oils, Natures Garden jojoba oil has a very long shelf life.  The shelf life of jojoba oil is one to two years.

Beard Oil Recipe: Olive Oil

Next, we used olive oil.  Olive oil is totally awesome for hair follicles.  It will help not only repair your hair follicles, but also leave it nice and shiny.  Now, let’s talk about Natures Garden’s olive oil pomace.  Pomace grade olive oil is a thick, rich, green grade of olive oil that is obtained by solvent extraction of the fruit and pits of the olives.  It is what’s left over after the first several pressings that give the virgin and Grade A oils.

Beard Oil Recipe: Sweet Almond Oil

Next, Natures Garden’s sweet almond oil was added to this recipe as well.  Sweet almond oil is a fabulous oil when it comes to ingrown hair.  It is a great oil for irritated skin or to help soothe ingrown hairs. Natures Garden’s sweet almond oil is cosmetic grade and refined.  Sweet Almond Oil is a light, non-greasy, moisturizing oil that absorbs easily into the skin. Therefore, sweet almond oil is frequently used in lip gloss recipes, massage oil recipes, lotion recipes, sugar scrub recipes, salt scrub recipes, and homemade soap recipes.

Beard Oil Recipe: Lanolin Oil USP

We added lanolin to this recipe in a liquid oil form.  We This liquid form of lanolin in much less viscous than typical lanolin, and is produced by heating lanolin at low temps to remove the liquid esters in lanolin.  Lanolin oil provides waterproofing and moisturizing to skincare products and is excellent in lip care formulations.  Lanolin oil can often be used as a substitute for mineral oil in your cosmetic formulations.

Beard Oil Recipe: Fractionated Coconut Oil

Fractionated coconut oil contains only the medium-chain triglycerides of coconut oil, making it a liquid at relatively low temperatures.  It is a very stable oil.  Fractionated coconut oil has an indefinite shelf life and is a light, non-staining,  non-greasy, colorless oil. It is great for use in massage, toiletries and handcrafted soap. Fractionated coconut oil is a great carrier oil for essential oils. Fractionated coconut oil can be used in lotions, lip applications, cosmetics, creams, bath oils, massage oils, bath salts, and cold process soap.

Beard Oil Recipe: Sesame Seed Oil

Sesame seed oil is a light oil (liquid state at room temperature) that is high in antioxidants and vitamins.  Sesame seed oil is an excellent, luxurious, conditioning oil in cold process/hot process soap.  Our suggestion for usage of sesame seed oil in soap is 5% – 10%.  Sesame seed oil does have a natural, distinctive aroma that should be taken into consideration when used in high percentages in your recipes.

Beard Oil Recipe: Rice Bran Oil

Rice Bran Oil (cosmetic grade)- Expressed from the husks of rice, most soap makers found that rice bran oil imparted nearly the same creamy, moisturizing qualities that olive oil did to their soaps.  It does have a lot of the same antioxidants and vitamins that olive oil has, and a similar fatty acid make up.

Beard Oil Recipe: Vitamin E Oil

The purest form of natural vitamin E available (from plant sources only). This is not tocopherol acetate (the form found in many vitamin E capsules).  Vitamin E is required in most cosmetic formulations in very small amounts in order to prevent oils from oxidizing.  When fixed oils oxidize, they develop a very rancid smell and can turn your products brown in color, which will ruin your finished products.  Prevent this from occurring by adding vitamin E to your formulations.  Our vitamin E oil is also heat stable and is added during the oil phase of your recipes.

It is a popular myth that antioxidants can be used in place of preservatives in recipes that require a preservative.  Antioxidants simply prevent rancidity and some discoloration from occurring.  Antioxidants do not kill bacteria.  When a recipe requires a preservative, such as a recipe that contains water, please be certain to use a preservative.

Beard Oil Recipe:  Eucalyptus Herb

We added eucalyptus leaves to this beard oil for its ability to help with irritation and redness.  Read on to learn a little more about our eucalyptus leaves.  INCI (Eucalyptus globulus). Natures Garden’s eucalyptus leaves can be used in cosmetics & soap as an antiseptic, anti-parasitic, wound healing additive.  Eucalyptus leaf helps to clean the skin, and has the ability to reduce redness and irritation. Eucalyptus leaves can be used to make sinus relief eye pillows for people who are feeling “under the weather”.

First, we will prepare your bottles.  In this recipe, we include Natures Garden’s cut and sifted eucalyptus herb.  We included this ingredient for its ability to reduce irritation.  So, we will add eucalyptus to the bottles prior to adding the oils.  Go ahead and add 5 grams of the dried eucalyptus to each of your bottles.

Beard Oil Recipe: Weighing Out Your Ingredients

First, you will need a mixing bowl.  In your mixing bowl, weigh out 75 grams of your olive oil.  Then, add 100 grams of your fractionated coconut oil.  Next, add 100 grams of sweet almond oil and 100 grams of Sesame Seed Oil.  Finally, add 30 grams of castor oil, 30 grams of jojoba oil, 20 grams of rice bran oil, and 5 grams of Natures Garden’s natural vitamin e oil.  Mix everything together so that it is fully blended.

Beard Oil Recipe: Adding the Oil to the Bottles

Finally, we will be adding the oil to the bottles.  This is easiest done with a funnel. However, you can also use a pouring pitcher.  So, go ahead and place your funnel in one of your bottles.  Then, pour your oil into your first bottle.  Fill your next bottle.  Now your handcrafted beard oil is ready to use.

Beard Oil Recipe: Using Your Beard Oil

Now, I know what you’re thinking, how do I use this beard oil?  Well, the best time to use a beard oil is right after you get out of the shower or wash your face.  You see, the warm water will help open your pores and really help your skin better absorb all of the oils in this beard oil recipe.  However, use caution when using your beard oil.  A little bit goes a long way in this case.  I would suggest starting with an amount smaller than the size of a dime. You may need more or less depending on the size of your beard. Although the amount you use will vary, you will know you have used too much if you have a lot of oil left behind.

We at Natures Garden know that every cosmetic ingredient is unique in some way. Its important to know the properties of your potential ingredients as a creator, because knowing the benefits of each oil could help you learn to create products that better suit your needs. Plus, one of the best parts of homemade cosmetics is being able to create exactly what you need. Safflower Oil Benefits for Your Products

Of course, you want your products to be attractive and effective. It’s very important for bath and body products to work, but this depends on two things. First, the effectiveness of your product is measured based on the need you are trying to fill. Meaning that the effectiveness of a conditioner made for thick, dry hair would be different from one made for thin, dry hair. Second, how well your products work depends on the ingredients included. This means you will need to understand the properties of your ingredients and how it relates to what you want. So, here are the benefits that this oil can provide your products.

Safflower Oil Benefits for Homemade ShampooSafflower Oil Benefits for Homemade Shampoo

Not only can you make your own cleansing bar of soap, but this cosmetic oil is perfect for making bars of shampoo. So, a batch of soap using Safflower Oil will clean your hair and leave your scalp with the nourishment it deserves. This means that this is the perfect bar of soap to use for your hair! This amazing cosmetic oil is perfect for skin care. Safflower Oil contains nutrients, like a high content of essential fatty acids, that really love and care for the skin. Not only is Safflower Oil perfect for nourishing your skin, but this oil is wonderful for protecting your skin from drying out. This cosmetic oil is able to both provide nutrients to your skin and lock in the moisture that your body needs. To protect the skin, the lovely oil creates a water proof barrier that prevents your skin from losing moisture. So, your skin will be softened and stay that way for longer.

Safflower Oil Benefits for Reducing BreakoutsSafflower Oil Benefits for Reducing Breakouts

Another benefit of this cosmetic oil is helping to reduce breakouts, blackheads, and similar blemishes. First, Safflower Oil contains high levels of linoleic acid. This means that this cosmetic wonder is perfect for balancing the oil your body naturally produces, sebum. This will help to reduce breakouts and lead to more clear, healthy looking skin. Further, this cosmetic oil has been tested on its ability to reduce blackheads and whiteheads. It was found that using Safflower Oil can lead to a reduction in the size of these blemishes. So, this cosmetic ingredient would make a perfect addition to your skin care routine.

Safflower Oil Benefits for Moisturizing Your FaceSafflower Oil Benefits for Moisturizing Your Face

Further, you can use Safflower Oil perfectly as a facial moisturizer. The cosmetic oil is said to work by if used by those with either normal or combination skin. Now, normal skin just means that you aren’t overly oily and you aren’t extremely dry. Instead, your skin is somewhere in the middle. So, you could use this cosmetic oil as an everyday moisturizer to provide your skin with a healthy, beautiful appearance. This means that your skin will be soft and beautiful with the combination of this oil being able to condition and balance your sebum.

Safflower Oil Benefits for Reducing Hair LossSafflower Oil Benefits for Reducing Hair Loss

An added benefit of this cosmetic oil is that it nourishes the hair and leads to a healthier head of hair. Safflower Oil contains vitamins and other nutrients that prevent the loss of necessary proteins. Without these proteins, hair can be brittle, dull, and even begin to fall out. While a loss of protein isn’t the only reason for hair loss, it is significant for a large portion of people. Adding this oil will help you to reduce hair loss and actually provide the lacking nutrients that are necessary to promote hair growth. So, adding in extra nutrients that you may be lacking is a perfect way to begin to combat hair loss!

Safflower Oil Benefits for Gorgeous, Shiny HairSafflower Oil Benefits for Gorgeous, Shiny Hair

Another benefit of this cosmetic oil is that it is useful for rejuvenating dull hair. Adding this cosmetic oil to a hair conditioner or directly to your hair will lead your locks to being shiny and beautiful. This is especially useful for those that dye their hair often. Why spend all this time and money if you aren’t going to be glamorous. Using a bit of Safflower Oil is perfect to use between salon visits for bringing your color back to life and adding a gorgeous sheen. Whether you dye your hair or leave it natural, this cosmetic oil makes an amazing addition to your hair care.

Safflower Oil Benefits for Nail GrowthSafflower Oil Benefits for Nail Growth

Everyone wants long, healthy, gorgeous nails, but it can be hard to grow them on your own. Between breaking and just taking so long to grow, it can be easier to get fake nails put on. But, this won’t make your nails stronger. Safflower Oil, on the other hand, is amazing for helping your nails become healthier and grow quicker. Since this cosmetic oil contains quite a bit of nutrients, like vitamin E and essential fatty acids, this is a great oil for rejuvenating our nails. These nutrients will condition the nails to provide a healthy look and feel. But, that’s not all. This cosmetic oil will lead to nail growth, as the oil provides nutrients that nails need to grow.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: A Closer Look at the Ingredients

Before we begin creating our chocolate body butter, let’s look at the ingredients.  Below is a closer look at each butter and oil used to create this recipe.  We will also talk about additional items we will be adding to make the “chocolate” part of our body butter.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Mango Butter

Mango butter is an exotic, luxury oil, which melts on the skin; providing skin softening and moisturizing qualities.  Mango butter is obtained from the kernels of the mango tree.  Mango butter is used in lip balms, lip gloss, soaps, lotions, scrubs, and many other bath and body recipes. It is said to reduce the signs of aging by reducing wrinkle formation.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Cocoa Butter Golden Natural

This particular cocoa butter is not deodorized; meaning that it has a chocolate-like aroma.  Cocoa butter is a very hard, saturated fat. It is considered a luxury butter that is used in lotions, lip balms, lip gloss, scrubs, massage bars, soaps, and other bath and body products.   It is used in conjunction with unsaturated oils like olive oil or castor oil, or with more sticky ingredients such as shea butter and lanolin when making soap.  Using too much cocoa butter in soap will result in a dry, exceptionally hard bar of soap.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Fractionated Coconut Oil

Fractionated coconut oil contains only the medium-chain triglycerides of coconut oil, making it a liquid at relatively low temperatures.  It is a very stable oil.  Fractionated coconut oil has an indefinite shelf life and is a light, non-staining,  non-greasy, colorless oil. It is great for use in massage, toiletries and soap. Natures Garden’s fractionated coconut oil is a great carrier oil for essential oils. In addition, fractionated coconut oil can be used in lotions, lip applications, cosmetics, creams, bath oils, massage oils, bath salts, and soap. Fractionated coconut oil can easily substitute sweet almond oil in recipes.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe:  Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Meadowfoam Seed Oil readily sinks into the skin; not leaving the skin feeling oily.  Meadowfoam Seed Oil helps to repair dry, damaged skin. Due to its high levels of natural antioxidants, meadowfoam oil has a long shelf life and is not prone to rancidity.  Meadowfoam oil is also known for its UV light protection properties, making it a fabulous oil to include in your skincare formulations.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Natural Vitamin E Oil

(Tocopherol T-50)-  The purest form of natural vitamin E available (from plant sources only). This is not tocopherol acetate, the form found in many vitamin E capsules.  Vitamin E is required in most cosmetic formulations in very small amounts  in order to prevent oils from oxidizing.  When fixed oils oxidize, they develop a very rancid smell, and can turn your products brown in color, which will ruin your finished products.  Prevent this from occurring by adding vitamin E to your formulations.  Our vitamin E oil is also heat stable, and is added during the oil phase of your recipes.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Organic Cocoa Powder

Organic cocoa powder is a fabulous addition to your cosmetics and soap recipes.  Cacao beans are rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, E and pantothenic acid.  They are also rich in the following minerals:  magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and potassium.  Cocao beans contain caffeine, which is actually beneficial to the skin.  How does chocolate lip balm sound to you?  Chocolate facial masks?  Yummy!

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Arrowroot Powder

Arrowroot powder is a white, silky powder that is found in most natural body powder recipes and deodorants.  It will give your recipes a silky finish.  Arrowroot is used in cosmetics as a thickener.  Unlike most thickeners, arrowroot has the ability to thicken at room temperature, and at varying ph levels.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Kickin Cocoa Fragrance Oil

Kickin Cocoa fragrance oil by Natures Garden is Gourmet Hot Chocolate with a fancy twist!  Kickin Cocoa scent begins with a top note of rum; middle notes of whipped cream, coconut, and creamy caramel; and base notes of cocoa, coffee, vanilla, and chocolate.  An NG Original Fragrance!

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: The Difference Between A Body Butter, a Cream, and a Lotion

We receive numerous phone call and emails regarding body butters.  However, most often, the question is what is the difference between a body butter and a cream.  So, let’s talk about those differences.

First, let’s look at a body butter.  A true body butter does not typically contain water.  You may also notice that it will often be both thicker and harder.  This is due to the fact that it does not contain water.  While it may feel hard to the touch, you will also notice that your natural body heat will quickly melt the butter.  This is what a body butter is meant to do.

Next, let’s talk about a body cream.  A body cream is similar to a body butter.  However, it isn’t quite the same.  A body cream will contain water.  So, essentially, it is a very thick lotion.  It will not contain as much water as lotion.  Since it contains water, you will need an emulsifier to create.

Finally, we will briefly talk about lotions.  Lotions are similar to creams.  Generally speaking, they contain more water when compared to a cream.  They will not be as heavy as a cream so it will typically absorb into your skin more quickly than a cream.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Total Recipe Weights

78 grams Mango Butter
156 grams Cocoa Butter
102 grams Fractionated Coconut Oil
65 grams Meadowfoam Seed Oil
10 grams Kickin Cocoa Fragrance Oil
10 grams Arrowroot Powder
5 grams Vitamin E Oil
5 grams Organic Cocoa Powder

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe: Prepare Your Oils

We will begin by preparing our oils for our chocolate body butter recipe.  You will need to weigh out 78 grams Mango Butter, 156 grams Cocoa Butter, 102 grams Fractionated Coconut Oil, and 65 grams Meadowfoam Seed Oil.

Now, you will need to create a double boiler.  So, in a large pot, add a few inches of water.  Place your pot over medium heat on your stove top.  Then, in a smaller pot, add your weighed out oils and butters.  Place your smaller pot inside the larger pot on your stove.  Allow your oils and butters to melt slowly.  You will need to stir them occasionally so that they melt evenly and completely.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe:  Adding the Remaining Ingredients

Next, remove the melted butters and oils from the heat.  Then, we will be adding the remaining ingredients.  So, first pour your melted oils and butters into a clean empty bowl.  Then, add 10 grams Arrowroot Powder, 5 grams Vitamin E Oil, and 5 grams Organic Cocoa Powder.  Also, add 10 grams of Natures Garden’s Kickin Cocoa Fragrance Oil.  Finally, stir the ingredients until they are fully blended.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe:  Cooling the Body Butter

The last step before adding the body butter to the jars.  You simply need to allow your body butter to cool.  This can be done one of two ways.  You can either place the bowl in the fridge or you can place your bowl inside a larger bowl filled with ice.  However, as the mixture is cooling, you will want to use a hand mixer to mix the ingredients.  This should be done about every 20 minutes.  You will want to continue to do this until your mixture is no longer fluid.

Chocolate Body Butter Recipe:  Placing the Body Butter in the Jars

Lastly, we will begin placing the body butter in the jars.  You will simply need to scoop the body butter into 4 ounce jars.  Our chocolate body butter recipe will fill a total of 4 jars.  Once you have filled the jars, you can place a white dome lid on top.

If you’re anything like me, after reading this, you will definitely be ready to indulge in a delicious chocolate treat.  So, why not give this chocolate mousse recipe a try.  I found this fabulous chocolaty  treat on Creations by Kara.  It’s a simple three ingredient recipe.  This recipe will be ready in no time!
