Joy Wax Candle Making Kit

Joy Wax Candle Making KitThe Joy Wax Candle Making Kit is a simple candle craft that is perfect for beginning candle makers. Not only does this kit provide you with the ingredients need to create twelve candles, but you will be provided a page of detailed instructions for those that need guidance. While you will not be provided with a pouring pot or a thermometer, these are extremely useful tools that every candle maker can benefit from using. Further, you will be given enough supplies to create three batches of differently scented and colored candles. Your fragrance options currently are Strawberry Passion Fragrance Oil, Spring Rain Fragrance Oil, Vanilla Silk Fragrance Oil, and Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil. However, you will need to decide on your favorite three candles scents, as you will have one scent left over. Overall, this is a simple, fun craft for the experienced candle makers and a great choice for those that want to create their first batch of candles.

A Pouring Pot

Cake Pan 13×9 or Large Pot (Used to Create the Double Boiler)

Stainless or Wooden Spoon

Stainless or Glass Measuring Cup

Stove Top or Hot Plate

Thermometer

Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks

Scale

Pencil or Fine Tooth Comb – Used to hold your candle wicks in place

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Sanitize and Clean

Before starting any project, you should make sure that everything is tidy and ready to use. First, gather all the equipment you will need to complete the candles. Not only do you want them readily available, but these supplies should be sanitized as well. Also, you will want to tidy and sanitize your work area and stove top. This preparation will allow you to be sure that this process goes quickly and without error.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Prepare the Containers

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Prepare the ContainersBefore you begin melting your wax you will want to prepare the containers for pouring. The wicks need to be put into the containers before you pour the wax. You will need a hot glue gun and hot glue to secure the wicks in the containers. So, add a bit of hot glue to the bottom of the wick and use your fingers to quickly secure the wick to the bottom of the container. Make sure that you place the metal bottom of the wick as close to the center as possible.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Creating the Double Boiler

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Creating the Double BoilerAlso, you will want to create a double boiler for this project. This will help to prevent the wax from overheating when you melt your provided Joy Wax. You will need the pouring pot to hold your melting wax and a larger pot that the pouring pot fits in. We recommend using a cake pan, but you can improvise with an appropriately sized pot or pan. You will add some water to the cake pan, place the pouring pot inside, and heat the water to boiling.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Melt and Color the Wax

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Melt and Color the WaxFirst, you are going to want to melt and add color to your first batch of candles. So, retrieve your scale and weigh a pound of your joy wax. Place this into pouring pot and begin to melt this wax. Also, you are going to want to add your colorant. Choose either the red or blue color block. We chose to use the blue color block for our first batch. You will want to add no more than one eighth of the block, but you can add less to achieve a lighter shade for your candle. We created dark blue candles for our first batch. Then, light red for our second and mixed a small amount of each for our final batch. After you add your colorant, mix thoroughly and place your thermometer into the wax to check the temperature. Once the thermometer reaches 200 degrees Fahrenheit you are ready for the next step.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Cooling the Wax

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Cooling the WaxNext, you are going to add the fragrance oil and pour the wax as the melted wax cools. First, wait for the wax to cool to about 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the wax reaches this temperature you will add one of your three chosen fragrance oils. Add one ounce of fragrance oil and mix thoroughly. Then, wait for the scented wax to cool to about 160-165 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the wax reaches this temperature it is safe to pour the wax into your prepared containers, this batch should fill about four candle containers. It is important to pay attention to how full you fill your jars.  You want to stop pouring just before the jars begin changing shape.  If you fill your jars to full they will not burn all the way across and you will also run out of wax for the remaining jars.  Finally, be sure to straighten the wicks before the candles cool. You can set an object, like a pencil or a fine tooth comb, across the tops to help keep the wicks in place.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Cleaning Your Pouring Pot

Often times beginner candle makers ask us how to clean their pouring pots. Cleaning them out with soap and water isn’t going to get your wax out. In addition, you don’t want candle wax clogging your sink drain. The key is to clean the pouring pot while it is still warm. Your wax will remaining fluid for a short time after you have poured your candles. While your pouring pot is still warm, wipe it out with a paper towel. Once you are sure you have all of the wax out of the pouring pot, you can then wash the pouring pot with dish soap and warm water. By washing the pouring pot you will remove and lingering fragrance and ensure your pouring pot is ready for your next batch.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Repeat These Steps

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Repeat These StepsNow, you are going to repeat these steps two more times. Since you will have eight more jars and two more pounds of wax left, you will be able to create two more batches of candles. Of course, you will need to choose a different fragrance oil and need to decide on the next color. However, all the other steps should be done the exact same way to prevent issues.

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Setting Up and Usage of Your Candles

Joy Wax Candle Making Kit Setting Up and Usage of Your CandlesFinally, you have finished creating all twelve of your homemade candles! Now, there are just a few things to be aware of before you are ready to start burning them. First, absolutely do not attempt to cool your candles faster by placing them in the refrigerator. If a candle cools too quickly, then it is likely to pull away from the jar. If the candle does not completely adhere to the jar your candle will look like it has wet spots. Second, you may get better results if you want at least three days to let your candles rest before burning. During this time keep the candles covered. Once the candles have cured, trim the wicks to about 1/4 inch before burning them. Finally, make sure you use the warning labels if you are going to share or sell these candles. We hope that you had fun creating this project and that you enjoy your new scented candles.

Rose Petals Bath Melts Recipe

How have we used coco mango fragrance oil?  Well, we used it in these adorable bath melts.  With the addition of both mango butter and cocoa butter, these bath melts will pamper your skin.  So, when you’re ready to make the Rose Petal Bath Melts, click the link, or picture for the recipe.

Coco Mango Fragrance Oil performs pretty well in cold process soap.  It showed no ricing and also no acceleration.  While we did notice slight separation after pouring the batter, the oils did reabsorb.  In addition, it discolors to a milk chocolate. Strong scent retention.  See exactly how it performs by clicking here.

When creating homemade candles with Natures Garden’s Coco Mango aroma, we suggest a yellow orange color.  You can achieve this color by using 2 drops of orange along with 2 drops yellow liquid candle dye. However, we should add, this suggestion is based on a 4 pound batch of wax.

Grapefruit Mango Fragrance Oil Grapefruit Mango Fragrance Oil

When our perfumist presented Natures Garden with this fragrance oil, we were in awe!  Refreshing, exotic, with just the right amount of Japanese grapefruit.  Grapefruit mango fragrance begins with top notes of Japanese grapefruit, ruby red grapefruit, and mango; followed by middle notes of cucumber and honeydew melon; and sits on a dry down of vanilla. An NG Original Fragrance!

Do you make your own candles?  Natures Garden suggests coloring you candles with either liquid candle dye or color blocks.  You can use 4 drops orange plus 2 drops red liquid candle dye.  Alternatively, a small amount of shredded red and orange color blocks can be used.

Now, while this one can be used in a variety of bath and body products, we have found that it does not perform well in cold process soap recipes.  You are welcome to test Grapefruit Mango Fragrance Oil in hot process soap, however we have not tested it in this application.

When creating homemade candles, we suggest 3 drops orange and 1 drop yellow liquid candle dye.  This is again, based on a four pound batch.  You could shred a small amount of a yellow and orange color block into your melted wax instead.

Vegan Lip Balm KitVegan Lip Balm Kit

The Vegan Lip Balm Kit is a recipe that is silky and extremely moisturizing, like many other Nature’s Garden lip balm recipes. Since this lip care recipe includes various oils and butters that are soft and long-lasting, this is a perfect recipe for great lip care. Not only is this silky lip balm perfect for lip care, but this recipe is completely vegan! The lip balm recipe doesn’t use any products that are come from animals. Typically, lip balm recipes use beeswax, so we replaced this ingredient with candelilla wax. This alternative is plant based, but it is still just as great for your lips. Also, this kit creates twenty-four full tubes of vegan lip balm, so you will have plenty of lip balm with even some to share. So, this kit is all around perfect for anyone looking for a great lip balm that happens to have the additional bonus of being entirely vegan!

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Ingredients From Natures Garden

37 grams of Coconut Oil 76
35 grams of Castor Oil
17 grams of Cocoa Butter
1 gram of Vitamin E Oil
20 Drops of Strawberry Sorbet Flavoring Oil (optional)
Powdered Stevia Sweetener (use as much or as little of the packet as you would like)

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Clean and Sanitize

You are going to want to make sure that you are completely prepared before you begin this project. So, you’ll need to gather and sanitize all the necessary ingredients and equipment. First, gather all of the equipment that you will need to complete this project. Also, sanitize your workspace and any other equipment. This will prevent potentially contaminating the lip balm and make the process easier to complete.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Setting up the Double BoilerVegan Lip Balm Kit Setting up the Double Boiler

Before you start make sure you know how to create a double boiler which will be used to melt your oils, waxes, and butters. You will need the two differently sized pots and a stove top. So, take the larger pot and add two or three inches of water. Then, place the smaller pot into the water. Place the double boiler on the stove and you’re ready to use! Once you have prepared your waxes, butters, and oils, place them in the smaller pot. You will then need to turn your oven on a low heat setting. Make sure that you keep a careful eye on the water level and make sure the ingredients don’t get too hot. You do not want to overheat the oils.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Working with the Candelilla Wax and Cocoa ButterVegan Lip Balm Kit Working with the Candelilla Wax and Cocoa Butter

First, you will weigh out a few of the ingredients that will take longer to melt. So, retrieve a gram scale and tare out the weight of a bowl. Then, weigh the appropriate amounts of candelilla wax and cocoa butter into the bowl. After, transfer these ingredients to the small pot of the double boiler and turn on the stove top. While these ingredients are melting move on to the next step.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Working with the Softer OilsVegan Lip Balm Kit Working with the Softer Oils

Next, you will weigh out the remaining oils for the recipe. So, tare out the bowl on the gram scale. Then, weigh out 37 grams of Coconut Oil 76, 35 grams of Castor Oil, and 1 gram of Vitamin E Oil into the bowl. After most of the candelilla wax and cocoa butter has melted, add this mixture of oils to the smaller pot in the double boiler. Make sure that your oils don’t burn as you wait for everything to be melted. Finally, once everything has melted, you can remove the melted oils from the stove top and transfer them into your bowl.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Adding Optional IngredientsVegan Lip Balm Kit Adding Optional Ingredients

Now, you are at a point where you can add in some optional ingredients. These ingredients could be flavoring, lip tint, or stevia sweetener. If you choose to flavor your lip balm, then add 20 drops of the provided Strawberry Sorbet Flavoring Oil. However, you could leave your lip balm plain if you’d prefer. Also, you can add a bit of the Stevia Sweetener to your lip balm. Although it won’t dissolve, adding a small amount shouldn’t be too noticeable. If you choose you can also crush it up a bit to create a finer powder. You also have the option to include a bit more of the provided sweetener to provide a lip scrub feel. Although you can add a lip tint to your melted oils, there is no lip tint included in the kit. After you decide the specifics of your lip balm you’re ready for the next step.

Vegan Lip Balm Kit Filling the Lip Balm TubesVegan Lip Balm Kit Filling the Lip Balm Tubes

Finally, you are ready to transfer the melted lip balm to your lip balm tubes. You will want to move quickly to prevent the lip balm from setting up before you are able to transfer. So, take your plastic transfer pipettes and move the melted lip balm into the tubes. Make sure you allow your lip balm time to set up before you move the tubes or add the cap. So, after the lip balm entirely sets up your lip balm is ready to use!

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Other Ingredients and Equipment Needed

Pyrex Glass Measuring Cup
Microwave
Refrigerator (optional)
Pam Cooking Spray (optional)
Tablespoon
Stainless Steel Mixing Spoon
Rubbing Alcohol

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Clean and Sanitize

Before you start your project make sure that you are truly prepared. First fill a bullet bottle with rubbing alcohol and place a fine mist sprayer on top. Then, not only should you sanitize your work space, but you should retrieve and clean your equipment. The creation of this kit will require a clean counter space and an available microwave. Also, collecting the equipment needed to complete the project will help the process go smoother. Since everything will be within an arm’s reach, you won’t need to spend time and energy to locate certain tools to finish. Plus, pausing part way through may cause your soap to cool before it is time to pour into the molds. So, preparing ahead of time can save you time and prevent you from messing up your creation.

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Preparing and Melting Your Soap Base

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Preparing and Melting Your Soap BaseFirst, you are going to want to prepare your provided soap base. Since melt and pour soap has already undergone the saponification process, all you’re are going to need to do is melt the soap. Also, our kit contains the Goats Milk Soap Base. However, you can choose the clear soap base if you’d like, the process is going to be the same either way. So, cut your slab of soap in half, which will be about a single pound of soap. Then, cut your soap into smaller chunks to fit the soap into your glass measuring cup. After, you will place your filled measuring cup in the microwave for a minute. If the soap is not entirely melted after a minute, then heat the soap again in 30 second intervals until the soap base is entirely melted. You need to melt in intervals to avoid overheating the soap, as it could potentially boil.

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Scenting Your Melted Soap

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Scenting Your Melted SoapNext, remove your soap from the microwave. Then, you will want to choose one of your four fragrance oils to add to your melted soap. While we chose to use the Lavender Fragrance Oil, any of the scents will work perfectly. Now, measure out a single tablespoon of your preferred fragrance and mix it into the melted soap.

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Coloring Your Melted Soap

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Coloring Your Melted SoapAfter you add the fragrance oil, it’s time for color.  You will need your Da Bomb Soap Dyes.  Then, you will want to add some of the liquid soap dye to the scented soap. While you can add either color you’d like, we chose to use two red and two blue to create a light pastel purple shade for our soap.  Add your soap colorant and mix.

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Pouring Your Melted Soap

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Pouring Your Melted SoapNow, you are going to pour your soap into the provided molds. While your melted soap is still hot, pour the soap into the molds. You should have enough melted to fill all the cavities in both molds. After your soaps set up you can create a second batch of soaps with the other half of your melt and pour soap slab. Additionally, you can spray a paper towel with Pam Cooking Spray then wipe inside each cavity of your mold before pouring your melted soap. This will make removing the hardened soap from the molds easier, but will not harm the soaps. Once you pour the melted soap into the molds spray any air bubbles you see with rubbing alcohol to release them.

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Finishing Your Soaps

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Finishing Your SoapsFinally, you are going to finish your melt and pour soaps. First, you will need to wait a half hour before moving your soap molds. Since the soap will be in a cooling process, moving the soaps could cause them to wrinkle or spill before they set up entirely. After this time passes, you can move the soap molds into the refrigerator for about an hour, or you can wait for them to setup naturally. Either way, allow the mp soap to finish the cooling process before removing your soap from the molds. Next, once the soap is setup, turn your mold upside down on a counter and press on the back of the soap cavity until your soap is released. Repeat the steps above with the remaining soap base. After, your soaps are complete and removed from the molds they are ready for immediate use!

Melt and Pour Soap Kit Other Ideas

If you are looking to kick your handmade soap up a notch, you can always use additives. You have many options when it comes to additives. My favorite is mica which can be dusted on your soap once they setup. This will give the soap a shimmering bling. Also, dried flowers like lavender or calendula can be added to the melted soap. Perhaps you want to add coffee grounds for exfoliation. These are just a few ways to make your soap stand out but the options really are endless. We hope that you enjoy the melt and pour soap kit. Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Clean and Sanitize

Make sure that you sanitize both your equipment and your workspace before starting this project. While this is a simple task, performing it before you begin will make the process easier. First, clear off anything you won’t be using from your workspace and sanitize the cleaned area. This will make sure that you have room to work and prevent potential contamination. Next, make sure that your equipment, such as pots or bowls, are sanitized. This prevents possible contamination of your lip balm pots.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Creating the Double Boiler

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Creating the Double BoilerBefore starting you should get your double boiler prepared. This is done to prevent the oils and butters from burning. Although this is used to prevent the oils from being ruined, the water could boil too high and get into the pot. So, make sure that you keep a careful watch on the boiling water. Now, retrieve both your larger pot and your smaller pot. Fill your larger pot with a couple inches of water and place this pot on the stove top. Then, place the smaller pot into the larger pot of water.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Weighing and Melting the Butters and Oils

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Weighing and Melting the Butters and OilsFirst, you will be weighing out the butters, oils, and beeswax for your lip balm. Find your scale and tare the weight of the bowl. Now, weigh out the 26 grams of beeswax, 47 grams of Coconut Oil 76, 20 grams of Shea Butter, 23 grams of Cocoa Butter, and 1 gram of Vitamin E Oil. After you weigh out all these ingredients you can put this mixture into the smaller pot of the double boiler. While you are melting these ingredients, make sure that you are keeping watch to avoid burning.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Stevia

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the SteviaNext, you are going to include the stevia in your oils. While your oils are melting, you will be preparing the sweetener. So, take the powdered stevia sweetener and crush the granules with a spoon. After you have crushed enough of your sweetener, place the stevia in the drawstring tea bag. Place your tea bag into the smaller pot of the melted oils and press on the bag to force the particles of stevia into the mixture. While this sweetener will not dissolve in oil, the particles that escape the tea bag will evenly disperse. This provides the lip balm with a sweetness, but the tea bag prevents the stevia from creating a scrub texture.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Strawberry Cheesecake Flavoring Oil

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Strawberry Cheesecake Flavoring OilNow, you will add the Strawberry Cheesecake Flavoring Oil to your melted butters and oils. First, remove the melted mixture from the stove top and transfer the liquid to your bowl. Next, use one of your disposable pipettes to add 20 drops of your flavoring to the melted mixture.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Base of the Lip Balm

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Base of the Lip BalmThen, you are going to add the base to your lip balm pots. This will be the bottom portion of the Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm. You will fill the lip balm pots almost to the top.  Leave about 1/8 of an inch from the top. It is important to make sure that you leave enough room to add the red strawberry topping later. So, take your melted mixture, disposable transfer pipettes, and fill the pots the appropriate amount. Also, it may be more helpful to uncap your lip balm pots before you begin filling, but you can uncap the pots as you go.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Provided Lip Tint

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Provided Lip TintNow, you are going to add the lip tint to your remaining lip balm mixture. Before you add this portion of the lip balm, make sure that you re-melt your remaining butter and oils to allow you enough time for you to work. Next, you will be adding the lip tint to the melted mixture in an amount you see fit to provide a bright red topping for your lip balm. Mix the lip tint thoroughly until the color is even.

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Top Layer

Strawberry Cheesecake Lip Balm Kit Adding the Top LayerNext, you will be adding the red colored lip balm to your lip balm pots. Before you add the red lip balm, make sure that the sides of the clear pots are cleaned off to make sure that the layers look clean. So, remove any of the lip balm on the sides above the bottom layer. Once you mix the lip tint into the melted butter and oils, you can pipette this mixture onto the partially filled lip balm pots. This will create an aesthetic and flavor of a small strawberry cheesecake.
